About Us | Glenbernie Family Farms
Welcome to Glenbernie Family Farms, a family-run farm nestled in the picturesque Hawkesbury area of Kurmond, NSW. Just one hour northwest of Sydney, our farm is a haven for nature lovers, flower enthusiasts, and families looking for a unique and sustainable experience.
Our Story
Founded by John and Marika, lifelong residents of the Hawkesbury region, Glenbernie Family Farms began as a dream to cultivate and work the land. Sixteen years ago, they discovered Glenbernie, and their vision came to life. Over the years, we’ve grown a variety of crops, including vegetables, hay, and grazing cattle.
In 2021, Marika’s passion for flower farming inspired us to plant zinnias and sunflowers. What started as a small home garden project quickly blossomed into something much larger. By March 2021, we were ready to take our flower crop to the Sydney Flower Markets. However, unprecedented storms and flooding rains disrupted our plans. The Hawkesbury River flooded, bridges closed, and landslides made travel to Sydney nearly impossible.
During these challenging times, we wanted to bring joy and positivity to our community. John decided to share our sunflowers, creating a beautiful distraction from the hardships of cabin fever. This act of kindness marked the beginning of our journey as a community-focused farm.

not many sunflowers cost us like $70 just to enter not recommended to go. when we tried to leave the security guard will not lets us turn right only so then he can let the other customers to enter we turn right because we had to he starts cussing a us we had kids in the car if you want to waste money well this is the best place to do that
After paying $19 to pick flowers we were rudely surprised to be charged $60 for sunflowers. Reason is because on entry the staff member who processed the entry fee (a young boy) told us the cost is per bucket as opposed to per stem. When exiting we discovered the per stem charge is hidden in fine print at the bottom of the sign. Total cost to pick 10 flowers was $79. The point to note is that the cost of picking flowers is per stem (not bunch) in addition to the entry fee. On a plus side, we did take some nice photos and have a reminder to beware when being advised by a minor instead of an adult.
Sunflowers 🌻 We came out on a Sunday February 2025. 2 adults and 2 girls. Weather was perfect and just the sight of these sunny faces made us smile. We loved the whole idea and saw a few family’s doing photo shoots. And even cuter were the young couples out on a date. You have to pay to get in but you have to do that down the road to pick fruit too. That’s business for you. Just enjoy the moment, add it to your Insta moments.
we were excited to see some flowers - got hit with a $7 entrance fee (per adult) and a whopping $6 to hire secateurs unfortunately we had to walk away - leaving 2 stars to give some benefit of the doubt!
Was a lovely day out at Glenbernie Family Farm. So easy to find. We were able to pat and see the goats and cows along with picking some lovely flowers!
Such a great experience ! Great service and beautiful flower farms to have a look at as well as the farm animals ! Great place for young families and for taking photos for insta !!
Very nice farm nice place to relax Come with your children’s Love to go back again.Cheers 😊
Great day out for the kids. The grounds are great and the animals are super friendly and adorable. Parking can be a little tricky if the carpark is full. The sunflower cuttings are $5 per stem and you can rent the prunes to cut them for $3. Eftpos is available onsite as well as a BBQ lunch and a coffee station.
Very very few little sunflowers almost like nothing. In the web, it shows beautiful sunflowers, it is very disappointing . They should notify customers about their farm situation. we drove 2 hrs with kids only to see dying sunflowers. Had they informed we would have come when the sunflowers in full bloom and didn’t have to leave this reviews.
We had such a beautiful day here! The zinnia field was just gorgeous and I spent ages taking photos. It wasn't crowded so I was able to really enjoy and take selfies without people in the background. My toddler had an absolute ball cutting stems and enjoying the plants. It was expensive as we paid by stem but the way I see it, we were paying for the experience (and photos) for our family, not just the physical flowers. The sunflowers were incredible. Sparse, but they were huge! It was nice having space to walk between them, not so many bugs and scratches like we've had at other farms. We were thankful for the jumping castle for our child and for the many gazebos with chairs as it was a very hot day! The animals were a bonus, we didn't spend much time with them as we were mostly there for flowers and photos but they were under shade and looked happy :) Thank you for a memorable day!
One of the best flower farms I have visited. Extraordinary customer service and we will be definitely coming back again 🌸💗
some of the rudest owners i’ve ever encountered. they were also islamophobic to my friend who wanted to pray, yelling “i don’t want you doing that THING on my property.” shameful and blatant display of bigotry
Lovely place good weekend visit
Loved the highland cows and the flowers. Very nice staff too 😊
4 Jan 2024: I don't think this place is worth the 10$ entrance fee. We arrived soon after they open. The flower fields are not that expansive as they can appear in photos. I have been following their insta and I can tell it is deceiving. Almost all of the sunflowers were facing down. Not sure if that means they are almost wilted. But seriously, if the owners have some integrity, when they know the quality of their flowers for that weekend, they shouldn't be charging a hefty amount. Greed is too much for these owners. We didn't even last for an hour as there's not much things to do. They have three or so cows, two alpacas, two goats... that's it.
Love the sunflowers. The place is smaller than expected. Our kids (two under 5 y.o.) enjoyed exploring the sunflower fields.
I was personally really happy with this place despite the recent bad reviews that they got. The place was full of sunflowers and some about 7 foot tall at points. I really sympathise with people who arrived, charged full price to see only green. I would also be very disappointed and can understand that paying the full $10 entry would be disappointing. In season you get the cows, jumping castle etc too for the same price. The staff were actually really helpful and were really clear about the pricing of the sunflowers to us. I think the other reviews saying that they weren't told about being charged to pick flowers was maybe not thinking straight or not very smart or just didn't listen. No way it's a $10 sunflower buffet. Lastly, I do think they should consider a discount on days with no sunflowers as that is really their highlight.
Had a great time at glenbernie farms! The staff is friendly and the crop was shining and beautiful. Was great to see some farm animals aswell! Got to take some photos for my wife's new book too, The Sunflower Angel! Would definitely recommend coming and having a look, will return!
A small farm in Kurmond worth visiting, especially during sunflower season when it gets busy.
We were excited when we visited the place. However, we got disappointed because there were only a few left to pick. It would be great to see it with fully grown sunflowers. 🌻 Nevertheless, we had a great time.
Feedback on Disappointing Experience at Glenbernie Family Farms: I wanted to share feedback on my recent visit, which unfortunately left me feeling very disappointed. I made a six-hour round trip to visit your farm, hoping for a memorable experience, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. Since it was the end of the season (understandable and not something you control), the flower selection was understandably sparse, with mostly burnt or wilted stems available. However, given the limited quality and quantity, I assumed there might be a discount on the per-stem price—especially on the last day of the season. I didn’t know about any payment until after the fact when we were leaving, and left with a rude shock and a “free bucket” to keep! Upon arrival, we found one remaining parking spot and paid the entrance fee, which was reasonable. We were handed a bucket and scissors, then told simply to “cut the flowers you want and return the scissors.” Another couple’s full bucket of flowers led us to believe we could pick freely, and without clear instructions or signage nearby (hidden behind a couple standing waiting to see the reception area) we didn’t realize each stem would be charged at $6. After picking 17 stems, we returned, expecting that the flowers would at least be wrapped in cellophane. Instead, we were handed a bill for $112 for flowers that were wilted, with some petals falling off and a surprising number of spiders. When I mentioned that I hadn’t realized the per-stem cost, I was shown a sign pushed to the side with the price. Notably, it appeared the “$5” on the sign had been altered to “$6” but wasn’t made clear to visitors in advance. We paid a total of $150, which felt excessive for the quality. In comparison, a more vibrant, larger bouquet could have been bought locally for a fraction of the price. I honestly wouldn’t have driven so far, nor spent so much, had I known what to expect on the final day of the season. It might help to have staff clearly explain the pricing upon entry, particularly when flower quality is impacted at season’s end. A seasonal price adjustment would also be appreciated, especially if flowers are not in peak condition. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope this feedback helps to enhance future experiences for other visitors, but my family and friends will not be visiting unless conditions and the experience notably changes.
Visited in November not many Sunflowers on show. You can’t ascertain that until after you have paid the $10 per person entrance fee, which under the circumstances is as a bit steep. Each stem you cut is $ 6. Would be more reasonable to adjust the entrance fee based on what is on offer
They charge $10 entry per person. No thanks. $5 yes, but not $10. Entry fee not advertised anywhere on their web page. Bit rich.
Friendly family run business. Beautiful flowers and Highland Cows.
I am writing this review on behalf of my wife, as her account has been blocked by the owner. I was not trying to avoid payment; I was standing in line at the counter with another customer in front of me. Before making baseless accusations, check your footage. The only reason I wanted my wife to come over was because I was shocked by the price. Your website is misleading, stating $6 per stem with two free sunflowers each. Your double standards have been exposed by numerous reviews on social media. If I had intended to leave the bucket with the flowers, as you claimed, I wouldn’t have left it at the counter. Your accusations are false, and you are making unfair assumptions about people. If you were truly honest, why would you disable the QR code for feedback, which you claimed was working earlier in the day? This behavior is highly unprofessional. People know the truth, and I strongly advise against buying flowers here, as it is an unfair way to profit from hard-earned money. Act ethically, as this tarnishes the reputation of other family-owned businesses that uphold their values. I know you will block me tomorrow as you always do. Enjoy $126 that I have paid you buddy.
Be cautious when visiting this place – it was a complete rip-off. The owner charges per stem without clearly indicating it, misleading customers and appearing overly greedy. I ended up paying over $100 for just six stems. The signs displayed were unclear, and the man at the counter was rude when we inquired about pricing. The flowers were dried out and not fresh; sunflowers from Coles are much better. When I tried to leave feedback via the QR code, I found that the website had been deactivated by the owener at the same time. Additionally, when my husband, who was at the counter before paying, wanted to bring me over as I was ordering iced coffee (I have a permanent disability and need assistance to walk), they refused and shouted at him. It was a terrible experience, and I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Should be a five star experience as it's a good concept along with a wonderful venue in my opinion the ten dollar entry fee for adults should include one flower per ten dollars, to charge six dollars for one flower is a bit steep ,it's more of a family venue
Our visit was really underwhelming. There were only two baby goats and a handful of cows—definitely not what we expected. Also made us wonder why the admission fee was still high. Considering what little there was to see, reducing the price to something like $5 for adults and $2 for kids would’ve been more reasonable ( during this time of the year ). We noticed several people turning around at the entrance and leaving, and in hindsight, we should’ve done the same. Just for people who are planning to visit please see todays pics , 7 October 2024. Not to blame anyone, its just this time of the year no flowers, may be you can visit after 3-4 months when flowers are there. Good Luck Reply: To the Owner, please appreciate people who are taking time out to do a loong drive and visit your beautiful farm, also I didint balmed you or anyone in my review, You skipped the point and if you have something to show which people are not seeing feel free to share, just be real, Yes jumping castle is there, but thats not the reason people are visiting.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Let down by the wind today sadly, but will definitely be coming back.
Not as expected and expensive for what they offer.
We visited the farm today and my granddaughter loved every minute. The owners are very welcoming .We were able to brush the cows and feed them. The weather probably kept the crowds away which was great for us.When we get some warmer weather all the flowers will be beautiful
$6 for a sunflower stem I get. But $6 for a SINGLE wildflower stem is a bit rich.
Not what is advertised
The experience was utterly disappointing, the Facebook page pictures showed a different story to reality - totally misleading. Overpriced - each stem will cost you $6. And, I wonder what was the entry fee for!
It’s the perfect spot to spend quality time with family, enjoying the fresh air, a nice coffee and the beautiful views of flowers in full bloom plus the highland cows and goats are adorable!
Be very careful.... you pay $5 dollars per flower... in the picture I show what we have been charged 96$ (excluding $20 bucks to enter).. My recommendation stay away from this place and from this people...
Rip OFF Wow this place is making money for nothing. You should be ashamed of yourselves No Sunflowers at all. Charges $10 / person to 🤷♀️look at trampled dead weeds and a few mangey animals and $6 per stem. We just got charged $72 for 12 ‘flowers’ plus the $40 in Ripped off no way is that value for money shame on you
$300 per adult and $200 per child to spend 1.5hours with the cows, 10 free flowers, 5 free photos.. at the end of the day they are cows, yes they appear cute and fluffy but they are just cows. 2 parents and 2 kids $1000 for 1.5hours.
Absolutely disgusting that they charge $300 for adults and $200 for kids to pat highland cows for 1.5 hours. When I commented on their post to a friend about the prices they deleted my comment and than blocked me for their fb. Absolutely unprofessional and just disgusting to run a business like they do.
Kids had a good time, it was relaxing and refreshing.
Drove for 90 minutes to get there only to find they'd closed because it was 'too windy'. Checked the website and Facebook page before we left home; no mention of this decision there.
I'm not usually one to complain but $40 for 3 adults and 2 kids to stay for 5 mins was a bit steep. Yes we were told there were no sunflowers left but we were also told there was plenty to do and lots of animals and a family fun day out. 2 baby goats and 5 cows is not a lot of animals. Again as I mentioned, we were told there were no sunflowers left but we were also told there has been over 2,000 visitors, which is a lot of money for entry fees only. I just think that they could have dropped the price to maybe $5 per adults and $2 for kids. A lot of people were turning around at entry and leaving which is what we should have done. Edit after the owners comment: the 2000 people was the owners response when people said of you are out of sunflowers. I'm all for supporting local businesses but a small jumping castle and a few animals is not a family fun day out. The fact you have to argue with people to justify your prices and to not have any friendly staff at all. We had a better time going 15 minutes down the road to bilpin.
Don't waste your money here ! A small dying patch of Sunflowers, Jumping castle & few animals. We as a family of three paid $10 entry fee per person for nothing. Also, $5 per stem if buying. There should immediately remove any entry fee here. This place felt more like a scam instead of having a farm experience.
Great marketing via their social media, but honestly lower expectations if heading there. Sunflowers were small & severely weather affected so not in their prime or photo worthy at present (out of their control, understandable) however advertising of funday mentioned the bottle feeding of baby goats for kids, so figured it was still worth the 1hr+ drive for hands-on with the animals for the kids (previous trips we were actually allowed into the pens so that was our expectation this time again + added bottle feeding) Feed was an hour late to what was advertised (people with kids are on a schedule, especially travelling that distance), and kids weren’t allowed to partake at all, apparently because of insurance purposes. Commented on the fb funday post stating that advertising around this needed to be altered … zero acknowledgement… and was blocked, ha. I see from quite a few other reviews, this is the normal business acumen from the owners (Facepalm). Enjoyed this farm in the past, when it was less known, far less crowded & less (falsely) advertised. A shame, had potential if owners owned their errors and took constructive criticism better. (Hand that feeds…). Also those poor Alpacas with their babies barely had space to walk 3 steps each … heartbreaking. Greed is the general feel we got this time around sadly. I don’t think we’ll be back again. 💔 EDIT IN RESPONSE TO OWNERS RESPONSE: Ok, so goat feeding then WASN’T because of insurance purposes like you’d told people at the feed?? There were 4 children present around you when you fed them (the goats had 4 bottles, so that would have worked out actually) and sorry that’s a poor excuse, when you actively advertise it. Obviously allll kids can’t feed just 2 goats, I don’t think anyone expected that. If it’s stressful for the goats for ANY child to feed them, don’t advertise it as an activity to do on these weekend fundays, simple. It was the whole point of our trip and we made sure to wait, hang around to ensure we would be first in line. (This is why we vibed greed, as it just seemed an added advertising tactic to get numbers through the gates, we actually expected more goats than just 2.) Re the Alpacas, people can judge themselves from todays photos re “adequate” spacing … as well as your response of “people getting in their faces/people scaring them/huddling in corner” … kinda proves the point I was making. Honest customer feedback mate, and yes, absolutely judgement … on the false advertising when people make big effort to travel to spend their days (& money) on you … plus the super bad business acumen to respond the way you do with shutting people down/blocking them when you get called up on anything. Manner and conduct is heavily linked to reputation, your reviews speak for themselves as people always search the negatives first and there are a few now I see (esp on the blockings). I had actually recommended you loads, prior this, based on our previous experience there a few years ago, but now will def be de-recommending based on pure conduct. I think you’ll find the “upset” and “silly” choice of words will fall on you mate. Maybe employ someone softer to handle your advertising and customer service, so your business doesn’t suffer. PS. We come from animal/farm space histories so aren’t completely ignorant here … and it’s why we seek farm experiences. There are several other options we can tap into, just saying.
So disappointed. The entry fee was silly for what the farm actually offers, the food and coffee were dreadful, the advertised fire pits weren’t lit and you literally have to pay a fee for everything. Won’t be returning, nor following their FB page I guess since the owner blocked me for leaving an honest review.
Not worth it at all.
Great morning out!
Amazing experience. This farm has the most beautiful sunflowers and also veggies. The best part is you pick your sunflowers to purchase as many as you like. Plus there's animals like goats and cows. Also there are other stunning flowers which you don't really see anywhere else. I highly recommend you visit this place.
$10 entry and $5 ea flower, nearly all flowers where damaged or dying. They then charge $6 to borrow a set of Pruners to cut your flowers. $3 to buy a bucket. In my opinion I would never return and it was a complete waste of time.
I think this place has a lot of promise but it was a bit disappointing in some areas. As others have noted the $10 fee for a flower farm seemed a bit excessive for what you actually get and the website is a bit misleading as the 'farm' is quite small and it takes all of 15 - 20 minutes to wander around. I think charging a hire fee for secateurs and then for the flowers on top is excessive too especially when people are already trying to tighten their belts at the moment. The owners were pleasant but seemed a bit stressed out which is understandable on a busy day but made it feel a little less welcoming than it could have been, especially when it's meant to be family friendly. However, the burgers were fantastic (one of the best I've had) although there could be some healthy/veggie options. My little one loved the highland cows which was worth the entry fee for us (and he's a baby so no cost for him). So a not too bad family day out. We didn't buy any flowers as the entry fee was enough for us but it was nice to get some pictures in front of the sunflowers on a sunny day. We were lucky as there seemed to be a lot in bloom over the weekend. There could be some more spots for people to sit, even a picnic friendly area. Overall a nice enough day out but not something we'd do again any time soon. I feel that a few little adjustments could make this place sensational as it definitely has the potential. The brewery down the road is a nice spot to stop on the way home for a refreshment for those doing the big drive.
Lots of lovely big sunflowers to pick
beautiful farm indeed, we enjoyed our visit! the best part was actually feeding the cows, the kids had so much fun. the cows never stop eating, they never get full so no dull moments for the kids 😆. we arrived saturday morning, there’s not much sunflowers in full bloom which may be because of the season and i guess some were already picked out the day before.. it’s best to come early for parking 👍🏼
Farm was nice but could be better with toilets, parkings and more cafes.
Such a lovely place to visit! Beautiful flowers and gorgeous cows! Staff were very friendly! Would definitely recommend! 🌻
Great day out. People were super friendly.
A picturesque field with gorgeous sunflowers and wildflowers. We have been here a few times to pick sunflowers and more. Always best to get in early as they open. During the colder months they also sell delicious sweetcorn in the cob.
My Sister & I had a lovely day last Saturday visiting Glenburnie Family Farms. It's such a lovely place to see & sunflowers are my favourite 🌻🌻🌻
Extraordinary sunflowers!
This place is an awesome hidden gem! Pick your own flowers for a low price 🤩We even got to feed a cute brown cow 🫴🍃🐄 with our leftover stem pieces and leaves! To save yourself several bucks, bring your own pruners 👍
Beautiful flowers in a small farm out there💐, sunflower was not blossomed when we went there, red flower was very nice.
!!! Very Very disappointed with our visit today. Right from the time we parked up on the street as we were yelled that car park was full. The guy who was directing traffic was so arrogant and rude that he was yelling.i felt like not visiting n going back. Since we drove 3 hrs to visit, we went down the hill walking.paid entry fees, still bought some flowers as food as we like to support small businesses. When we were leaving, walking up the hill to car, we got yelled again by this little punk. More attitude n extremely rude behaviour. I called owners n spoke to lady n John but mate u guys not ready to take responsibility of ur worker n no apology what so ever. He will drive ur customers away.such kinds of behaviour from a road side watch man is unacceptable.
Under-whelming. Limited parking. Overpriced for what it is. Not at all like the photos on the website or Facebook post. I was also blocked when I answered a question regarding someone asking if it was wheelchair accessible. My answer was that it would be difficult to push a wheelchair through the soil and then an uphill push to get back to the car. Also, porta-loos would also not be wheelchair friendly No cafe, just a van with snacks. I'd say, if you are driving past, stop in but don't spend an hour driving just to visit here. ** post note. It was not a bad vibe. An honest review is an honest review of how it was on the day. There are many reviews just like mine, so I am not alone. And offering advice to a person in a wheelchair is fair, especially as they were told it would be fine. Finally, I don't think for one minute that is a sad story - it just is the experience on that day. If you feel it is a sad story.... that's your interpretation.
It’s a beautiful place one should visit ❤️
Definitely avoid, tourist trap.. Wish I'd read the other reviews below beforehand! Utter waste of money. We paid $10 per person for entry but there wasn't any nice sunflowers left for pictures or to pluck. For a family of 4, we paid $40! The place was crowded. If you're looking for a photo opp or nicer flowers, your money is better spent at wildwood gardens, or the botanic gardens just down the road. Ps: the owner's replies to people's honest reviews below are also reflective of his lack of graciousness. They should adjust the pricing based on the availability of flowers, as opposed to saying that their pricing is at the gate for all to see. People have driven all the way up for more than an hr - its almost like a sunk cost. If you want to do better, advertise your prices on your website!
Overall it was good Private Farm.
Great!
Its beautiful..loved all the beautiful colours around..
Nice
This farm is absolutely stunning! The sunflowers are breathtaking, and I love that visitors are allowed to walk through the sunflower beds to take photos. Such a picturesque experience
A good quick visit if you want to see a field of sunflowers. Good for pictures. Not that disability friendly. Staff were helpful though,
It was such a lovely day during the Easter break. The $10 per adult entry fee was very reasonable given that you can get unlimited shots of the vibrant sunflowers as well as see the two cows in the farm. We also picked our own flowers for $5 per stem and brought our own bucket and clippers, which is handy. I don't understand the less than 5 star reviews because there's no other place as near to Sydney where you can pick your own sunflowers so easily, supporting a friendly small business! The owner was super lovely, too, and said she's just happy to see people leave with smiles on their faces. 10/10 experience 💛
Beautiful and happy place to be that is suitable for all ages. It shows all the love and dedication by John and Marika. Marika was so accomodating with sharing her expertise on which sunflowers to pick to take home. Picturesque sunflower and zinnias fields, all for the price of $10 entry!? Limited parking is available inside but there’s plenty of street parking outside just look for the cars parked. Would definitely recommend making a trip to Glenbernie Farms. There’s food trucks, toilets, kids area and marques for a sunny day! Alternatively bring picnic gear/goods and enjoy the view!
Beautiful flowers and great service
Such a pretty place to visit. Lovely to take the kids and pick some sunflowers, take some photos and head off to a local place for lunch. A little pricey for a family to visit, especially if you plan on taking home sunflowers. Visit nice and early so you get parking and take hats/ shade for children if you plan to visit on a hot day.
The sunflower fields fell short of expectations; the flowers appeared poorly maintained, and the entry fee of $15 plus an additional $5 per flower felt steep. The small field lacked uniqueness, and our visit concluded in just 10 minutes, leaving us with minimal clippings. Considering the entry fee, a complimentary flower or more attractions would have justified the cost, as the experience mainly comprised of dirt and sunflowers without additional offerings. During our visit, the muddy floor was excessively wet, so you need to be-careful where you step or you’ll end up in it. Long drive - lack of offerings - extra for flowers. $6 clipping hire. Not worth.
Had a fun experience but was a bit disappointed that there were not many tall sunflowers left for taking photos in between the rows. The grass was also a bit unkempt making it hard for my little one to walk through but we did find some that were wide enough. She also loved petting the cows. Would not mind visiting again only because I have family living nearby but definitely will research when the season begins next time. Bring some mosquito repellent and wear some boots so your feet stay clean and dry after wet weather.
Great place for photos and for taking your own sunflowers home
What a great time we had. The flowers were in full bloom and the ones we bought home are beautiful. Even better, I made friends with a friendly little bull calf we were able to meet, and he thought i made a great scratching post as he rubbed his head against me. Will definitely be going back.
