Great view and not far
Twice have got here but around 4.10/4.15 and they were already closed eventhough their site says closes at 4.30! Only wanted takeaway coffee. ☹️
It was so Cold that we didn't stay long
The old signal station has a great view of Hobart and the surrounds providing an interesting insight into how people communicated historically against the backdrop of a contemporary landscape. Probably best to skip the cafe at the lookout unless you want to pay $19 for a piece of cake!
Nice views, car parking
Great spot to stop and take in the views
Great views. Fantastic café. Friendly service and divine food. Huge portion of lemon tart with cream, icecream, berries. Beautifully presented and a lovely surprise.
It was busy, outdoor seating only but friendly service.
Great food, incredible views. Lovely place.
Nice to learn some history about the signal station
Needs to have trees trimmed a bit to actually see the view. Not worth the trip
Easy to access by road, there is also a network of hiking trails to this historic 1811 signal station A lovely old restaurant, converted signalman’s home, serves meals and desserts with a view to die for.
Dirty
Excellent view towards the south east towards Port Arthur and the ocean. Trees do obstruct the view of Hobart though, leaving only a small section of the Hobart CBD visible.
Very nice
Great lookout and interesting mini museum.
Short drive from city, accessible by public transport. Great views, easy parking .Restaurant.
Great views of Hobart and across the Derwent River. Easy parking and a superb restaurant with great food, wine and service.
Great anytime of day...but I particularly love it in the evening once the gates are closed and car noise stops. Take your oddie and meditate with the roo!
Great lookout spot, informative displays, and the nearby Cafe is great, toilets nearby, not too many parking spots.
Wonderful history of early Hobart Town
Awesome
Great cafe and amazing view (prices of cake are almost at the same altitude!)
Views were amazing. Cafe offers food that both looks and tastes amazing.
Fantastic lookout, with plenty of history
A beautiful outlook, peaceful atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is full of flavour and nothing short of amazing. If i could give a higher rating i would. The food is top notch!
We got the public bus to there because we wanted to walk back to Hobart. We took water with us because we didn't expect facilities to be open. Instead, there was a very good restaurant that also had wine. We had a great meal then walked downhill all the way back to Hobart. The signal station is worth a trip even without the meal or the walk. It has history & great views.
You can see for miles!
Great view. Well worth the 10 min drive. Great food and beverage right beside.
Nice
One of my favourite places to visit for a nice view and a coffee
Unfortunately the kitchen had closed at 3pm on the day we visited but we were still able to get cake and coffee. Both were excellent and the view from the top of Mt Nelson is incredible. Often Mt Wellington is difficult to see from as the weather sets in quickly to obscure views but generally Mt Nelson is ok. If up here please have a coffee and a bite to eat from the restaurant you won't be disappointed.
Had a beautiful morning. Impressed at the volunteers from Bushcare who were weeding invasive species from near the cafe. Thank you for the hard work. The area has many trails that are moderately difficult but see many families walking together
Amazing food to match amazing views!
This outlook gives you beautiful views of the city and its surroundings. It is an easy drive up. It is a very relaxing place, especially if there is no one around. There are benches that you can sit and enjoy the ever changing clouds and vistas for as long as you like. Highly recommend.
Small but well organized place. Around the station, there are some walkways where you can enjoy bushwalking, which is worth a try.
The cafe has great coffee and food. The scones, jam n cream were excellent.
An underrated lookout spot! We went without much expectations, but we were greeted with a stunning view over the city and the surrounding islands.
Lovely views and a nice slice of history.
Worth to visit with easy access from city
Great view
Going again tonight to try to capture the southern Aurora
Good Panaromic view..
Interesting place with great views and an interesting history. Pop up here for a visit if Mt Wellington is clouded in.
Stunning views, walking tracks, lookout points. It all pic worthy.
Great coffee, but in higher price bracket. Ridiculous price on piece of cake ($19). Good friendly service.
Great views, service, delicious food and coffee. Will definitely be coming back again
Amazing walk from Lambert Avenue and spoilt for views from the station, well worth the effort 👌
The signal station is fascinating for its historical context. I love the informative signs and panorama showing the other signal stations and batteries around Hobart. There's public restrooms, a cafe and the Trugannini reserve nearby with lots of walking tracks and a memorial.
The best time to arrive is 1 hour before sunset. Beautiful sky and the scenery. Unfortunately the city view is blocked with dense of trees.
The Best place to chase Aurora!
Just 7-8 minutes drive from CBD. Easy to access there. Enough free carparks. There are public toilets and a restaurant beside the station. Two binoculars are available out there. The small station displays history, information, and knowledge of signals inside. Free to access. Not many people. Peaceful place.
The Mount Nelson Signal Station is and great place, day or night to get a view of Hobart and the Derwent River. And if there is a good aurora
Great place to spot wallabies, especially if they're just a little guy.
What a gem of a place. Have spoken to friends about it and will revisit when back in Tassie
