Ashfield Hotel

I like it here. Good drink prices and the kitchen is one of the better pub kitchens in the inner west. Just need to fix the big TVs in the sports bar so they're not blurry. I'm assuming the signal splitter is sending a 480p resolution and it does take away from the experience.

I cannot say anything but as we came here I see the security staff was playing the pool and he didn't give any chance of playing us. Had a very bad experience here We had to return as we want to enjoy the night playing pool and having a drink. I would like to give no any rating as our experience was ruined.

Extremely poor service. The male manager displays an unprofessional attitude and even resorts to threats, asking you to leave if you do not follow with his words

To whom this may concern, I think Lee is one of the best managers I've ever seen, always up for a mad talk. I have only been coming to this pub for 6 months max and he has always made us feel so welcome and warm. A special thanks to this pub and Lee for making our transition to Sydney a positive one with the most warming atmosphere. I think that to the people/persons who thinks otherwise should keep their opinions to themselves, Opinions are like assholes everyone's got one but some are shittier then others! Very rude customer service mainly the bald guy on bar security was bit friendly i wont recommend anyone to visit

Are you in Ashfield looking for a place to grab a properly cooked steak exactly to your specifications and have a chat with friends and actually hear what they are saying without poker machines buzzing and beeping? If you answered “yes” then this is the place for you. The chef knows how to cook a steak and will make it exactly the way you want. I like my steak rare and that’s exactly how I get it. The chef doesn’t try and second guess that I perhaps may want a medium rare or medium. I suggest you ask for ‘no basting’ on your steak, only salt and pepper and no mayonnaise on the salad. I went there for supper around 4pm Ordered food and drinks for me and my younger brother When we were almost finished with our food the licensee of the pub came and asked us to leave Even thought i had my ID. FYI there is a sign all over the place that minor is allowed with a responsible adult. They asked us to leave immediately. Very unprofessional and very bad management. At least the food was good.

Nice place... When they serve without cutlery, they ask me to get it from the cabinet.

I have been going to this pub for years and always felt welcome until recently when Lee the manger moved on to be a regional manager. Since then some of the staff have been rude, incompetent, and come across as though they couldn't be bothered, and were more interested in fixing each others hair In the gambling area than serving customers. I asked to speak with the manager and the staff member said she was and I was shocked to the point of laughter. They couldn’t handle an issue that had nothing to do with me, with her screaming at the top of her lungs like Banshee at another CUSTOMER, which was very unpleasant. Totally unprofessional. When I said I wasn’t happy, I was blamed. Until this joke of a manger is gone I won’t wasting my time or be spending my money there and have told many about this change for the worst in one of my once favourite pubs. Much better option down the road at the crocodile. Professional, pleasant staff and a much better atmosphere. Such a shame for the Ashfield Hotel. They need to lift their game big time. How they get away with this pathetic level of what’s barely customer service is beyond me.

It happened at about 10:30PM 21/09. At first we ordered beer and sparkling wine but the lady accidentally gave us sparkling water. After we paid everything and she correctly pouring us the sparkling wine, we asked her did we pay for the water as well she said yes, so we said “I’ll take the water ok” and took it. We have not drunk it yet, just put it on our table. Then the manager (the man with the mustache, bold ) came and took the water, walked straight away saying “you have to pay for the water, it’s not free” with a very rude attitude. We told him we paid for it (at this time we didn’t know that we were not charged), but he just walked away saying “no your did not” and the ladies behind the bar were smiling. It might be the miscommunication between us and the lady who served us, but the manager could ask us if we have paid for it and clarify instead of just taking the water away from our table. We talked to him after our drinks, he said because we did not pay for it and took the water from the bar so we were rude first, I believe it was not our fault because we asked the staff and I told him that. I asked him “so you can be rude to us as well?” He said “Yeah”. As a manager, he should have the ability and responsibility of investigating the situation before assuming anything. . I do not understand was it the normal attitude towards guests here or it just towards us because we are Asian?

Great value, no fuss place. Eerily quiet unfortunately. $19 specials at Bistro are great value.

Overpriced beer. No atmosphere. Rude staff that can’t speak English and all seem to be related. Don’t bother. It used to be a great pub it certainly isn’t anymore!

This place used to be good ..the staff are not very friendly besides the night lady in gaming room..I couldn't wait to get out of there truthfully..I downed them two beers faster than I ever have lol

One of the grimmest pubs in the Inner West. Benchtop was sticky like flypaper. 'Gage dining' is a couple of tables at the back. Some of the reviews below must be bots: 'food to die for' ?!? Give me a break. The tacky LED advertising outside doesn't help.

Been there twice. Some staff are condescending. Food average and you're continually interrupted by staff who suffer from obsessive compulsive behaviour constantly monitoring customers as how to extinguish a cigarette and directed to finish the complementary drinks despite the barrelled coke gets flat so easily Very disappointing experience

The cage restaurant is the best around this area between three suburbs. The steak is cooked well and big portions for the price. These guys know how to cook a good meal. The pork ribs are also amazing and you get a gravy to have with the chips is ordering the ribs. I’m very surprised this place is quiet during the week. I don’t mind it being quiet but I want them to do well. As to me it’s the best steak I can get between 3 suburbs and just as good as some steak houses.

My Rump steak was cooked to my liking by the only chef, service at the restaurant and bar I give 5 stars. I will be back to eat excellent food for $18

It's a nice pub but I don't like the smokers inside especially in the pokies area. They should smoke outside.

Lady at the bar is extremely rude. I’ve interacted with her on two different occasions and there is no “Hi, how are you” but a “where have you been tonight?” with the most stale, serious look i’ve seen. If this is the person that serves people at the bar, i’m not surprised why it’s quiet, she’ll probably find any reason to kick someone out even if they breathed the wrong way. Bare in mind this has happened two situations and both situations, I drive and do not drink. Would seriously consider finding someone a bit more friendlier and less cut-throat.

Gage Dining the bistro here does daily specials for $18 every day of the week. The one man show cooked my steak to perfection and at my desired doneness. Excellent.

Stayed down the road over the weekend and popped in Saturday arvo, Friendly staff, a good selection of beers and the food was lovely as well as reasonably priced. Thanks 🍻

We really like this pub and would love to make it our ‘local’ go to place BUT the VIP lounge and the stench of cigarette smoke seeping out are quite repulsive. Other than that, the food, staff and atmosphere are great. Get rid of the VIP lounge and this place would get many more customers.

I really enjoy the food, atmosphere and service after they revamped the kitchen. Reasonable prices and excellent service. I'm local and eat here a couple of times per week. My mates enjoy the place too. They got VIP pokies and a large sports bar too.

Really nice food at a reasonable price, the special $18 steak was perfectly cooked. However the service was pretty bad. The bartender with a ponytail kept staring at us and looked so fed up and disinterested, with a constant frown and upset demeanour. He also was quick to clear our plates so he could have the leftovers of my partners schnitzel which he shoved in a takeaway container behind the bar.

Way to go! 💪🏼 Revamp your kitchen and give vegetarian people only ONE option! They used to offer a bigger and better range of food prior to this. Note for the meat-eaters: the steak is definitely NOT worth $32

Ashfield Hotel is your typical Aussie Suburban Pub,Clean Friendly Atmosphere and welcoming,Helped along by Manager Lee,tending the Bar and being a most Hospitable and Friendly Host,always attentive and catering for your thirsty needs and a chat,and on occasions the ever attentive Security Dylan always feel safe when Dylan's on watch. I'm not a friend of theirs just wandered in one night and was greeted like a long time regular,very Rare in this Day and Age. Give it a try for Drinks or Food you won't be Disapointed.

Friendly, welcoming, open pub, a little more spruced up than your typical suburban pub, but still with a relaxed vibe. Ample smoking areas with seating and heating, great good (slightly more expensive than your average pub feed, but a delicious, chef level menu) and cheap drinks and pool tables. Open til 4 and sometimes 6am.... Great place

The staff are super friendly. Good selection of drinks. But the atmosphere is off if you’re not heavily into gambling.
