Cockroaches everywhere and food was crap. So many tables full of plates that just stayed there for at least 45 mins until someone collected them. No wonder there's cockroaches!

This hotel is simply fantastic.

Friendly staff. Proper food portions and quality at that. Loads of seating areas. Quite enjoyed the lunch we had with mates at the Rose.

Big shout out to the staff at The Rose Australia. I lost my purse on Friday night and they looked high and low for it. I got it back! Can’t thank you enough for taking the time to look for it.

Nice bar with cozy ambiance. 2 levels, with bars on both. The staff was friendly and helpful. Reasonable prices. You can also book the whole upper level if needed for events. Conveniently located right by the train station.

I'm not feeling well today (suspected flu) and my dog is also sick (her stool is bloody), so I have to go out (what a bad day I have!😟). I passed this restaurant and I felt hungry and I knew what was happening to my body, so I sat outside in the corner wearing a mask. The service was terrible. I sat there for twenty minutes and no one asked me what food I wanted or brought me water. I even said hello to the service staff, and the result was that the guests who arrived after me were served first. Later, I had to bring my dog into the store to order food and was told dogs were not allowed in the store. It really sucks😠. I also waited a long time for the food, too. The couples with dogs who arrived much later than me were already enjoying their lunch, and I didn't get my food until they were close to finishing.

This is a hidden gem of Erskineville.

I want to give a shout out to this pub - first time visiting was last night. Firstly it's styled beautifully, great decor and atmosphere. Loads of different areas to sit and enjoy a meal. Secondly the staff was so friendly and so nice - very accommodating and had great vibes. The food was fantastic, the steak was great, so was the octopus and kingfish. definitely be back!

Disappointing experience at this establishment. While some staff members were friendly, management's behavior and communication style were unprofessional and unacceptable. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the name of the staff member we interacted with, but their poor attitude reflected the management's tone. Due to our negative encounter, I wouldn't recommend this place and won't be returning.

The Rose of Australia is a gastro pub in Erskineville. Drinking and dining here was an enjoyable experience. I really liked the atmosphere. From the outside, it does not look too big, but once inside, you realise there are a few levels and many places to sit, eat and drink. The pub is nicely decorated and has a modern, updated feel. I went with a group of friends and had prebooked. We were seated in the area known as the Rose Garden, which is a part of the pub behind a glass sliding door. This area was great because it allowed us to sit and chat without it being too noisy. The food was good too. I ordered the schnitty stacker ($26). Having mash and peas on top of the schnitzel rather than the usual fries could seem a bit strange, but it works. The schnitzel itself was cooked well. It had a nice, crisp coating and soft meat. The coleslaw went well with the meal. It would have been nice to have the option of fries rather than mash, though. Some of my friends ordered the nachos. The serving was really big and could easily be shared between two people. They said it was really delicious and were very happily satisfied. The pub is family-friendly and welcomes children. There is ample street parking. If catching public transport, the train station is only about 150 metres away. I would recommend drinking and dining here.

Great pub in Erskinville. Different Areas available for groups. Great food and beers but definitely not a cheap place.

Good atmosphere for a gathering or a small event

Loved the Spicy squid. Sausage was average. Good place to hangout with friends for drinks. Service is average. They can pick the finished plates but cannot serve you another bottle of water.

Use to be the best ribs around... now they are just average or below. A real pity

Loved the halloumi chips and the salmon. The kingfish ceviche was odd. I love ceviche but there was something weird going on. Plus, what is it with pomegranate seeds…There is no need! They were on everything…noooooo!

My husband ordered the slow cooked lamb shoulder for $45. It was nice enough but a very small amount of meat on the bone with zero sides. For the price we expected at least some chips and vegetables. He was still hungry so ordered the sausages and mash. I had the large super foods salad for $22. Basically a bowl of baby spinach with a tiny bit of extras and drowned in dressing. All up very disappointing.

Bitter taste! Been coming to Tuesday night trivia every week for last 2 and a half years - even won a few vouchers and it’s been fun … that is until management changed the voucher expiry date to Monday, like the day before the next weeks trivia on Tuesday! How is a team of 6, some of who don’t live in the area, suppose to coordinate their busy lives to come back again by Monday. I’ll tell you, they can’t and the vouchers go unspent - the house wins. How does shaving 1 day off the expiry date solve any problem you believe you have? It doesn’t, it only frustrates your customers and treats them with contempt. Enjoy the savings you will loose in the long run.

Nice looking place . Food was nice(rose burger ) …but the food portion was smaller than last time (vegan Nochi) . Price is bit up there. And unless I’ve become super tolerant to alcohol i felt the the vodka sodas were a bit weak ???… ah maybe im am super tolerant …but one thing i know for sure is that there was a foul toilet smell near the bar.

The beer battered barramundi burger was oily af, burger and chips also not salted. The chips were hollow from the inside and limp. I wish I could vomit that meal up, get my money and go somewhere else for dinner. 0/10 tragic boots.

Bad dining experience. My moussaka arrived after my companions had finished eating. It was lukewarm warm and pretty dreadful.

This is NOT a pub for locals. It’s a pub for private parties. Before COVID locals could rarely get a table on a Fri or Sat due to all the private functions m. But it was locals that enabled the Rose to survive through COVID. But once again it’s just a pub for private parties. It was empty last night down stairs so no problem getting a table but none of the bar staff mentioned the 100+ people upstairs and that food would be 45 min. 45 mins to wait for food? In a suburb with so many pubs nearby. And then there is the cost $29 for a burger with bacon and fries. Wow.

Lovely food, service and atmosphere. Mexican style chicken was perfect, crunchy quinoa amazing.

Had a lovely Sunday roast here. I chose the porchetta - crackling was perfect, and the combination of roast potatoes, carrot and parsnip complemented the main perfectly. Tried some of the finger food like sandwiches, croquettes and pastries - all fresh and delicious. Excellent choices of beer on tap too - stone & wood and ginger beer for me!

This place had amazing food and cocktails, absolutely loved everything I tried and have been back a few times now. Not your average pub, and definitely not average food! Place can get very busy, but otherwise great venue. Highly recommended.

Great hotel. It’s been well refurbished in an eclectic and modern style. I was at a wedding reception on the first floor. The food and service was great and atmosphere good. The only problems were that there is an opened side which overlooks the downstairs smoking area and the smoke wafted in. Also the noise from the downstairs area came up the stairs and made it very loud and hard to talk. Love the art and designs. A great pub and event space.

Charged a 1% card surcharge despite paying cash. They did this intentionally twice now. It’s not the 10c extra, it’s the principle. Why charge 11.6 when you can charge 11.5 by cash. Ridiculous

Friendly service, a very average Sunday roast, some colour & movement out the front but not much else. Awkwardly spaced tables inside with shelves that hit your shins. Confusing menu across 3 fold out leaflets.

Iconic Erskineville pub. Go during the week and enjoy some of their food specials. The Monday night steaks are cooked to perfection and are a bargain.

Food was so below par it wasn’t funny. It was like the wait staff had filled in as the chef was off sick. Friend visiting from the UK really disappointed after us building it up. Only positive was the hot barman. Bet this will never be published.

We attended an engagement party getting the entire second floor. The event was well managed with wonderful food and drinks. Definitely a place to consider for celebratory parties.

Good atmosphere however, sadly not enough vegetarian food options on their menu. Would love to see this change!

Good drinks and pork ribs but overpriced pub

Good atmosphere and drinks. However food is awful. Ordered nachos & schnitty and literally within 2 minutes of sitting down they came out stone cold. When questioned with the bar staff, they said the kitchen was very busy so they were making things in anticipation of people ordering them.

Overall: 4/7 Don’t really understand the hype for this place. Probably much better for socialising with some finger food (chips) than proper sit down mains.

Allround excellent experience! Also love the way it is decked out...great interior!
