Amazing Guinness poured Friday night, one of best I've had in Sydney. Also food was great.
really bad experience the bouncer didn’t even bother checking the id very ignorant and rude
One of our friends got too drunk and security were super helpful and overall gave us a really positive experience. Best experience we have had with security in Sydney and would really recommend for a good and safe night.
Great Place to go for a Burger, but dont expert to be able to watch and hear the sport. Went for the Superbowl and couldn't hear the commentators or Line calls as the sound was so muffled. Also how do you run out of Bud on game day
Friday is dead.
Catch up for drinks with friends
Made me pay $8 for a soda water. When I questioned this the bar staff responded very rudely
Yummy food with good musical performances.
Kicked me out even though I was the most sober person in my group. I'm honestly still trying to figure out why. Do you guys just kick people out because you're bored? Get better security guards, please.
Have had great times here. Brought a visitor (visibly from out of town) and unfortunately bar staff seemed to ignore them and my guest never got serviced. Hope this was personal reasons as I had no excuses. Left for another venue and in embarrassment.
It was very good experience. I could see the staff putting extra efforts to keep everyone served and happy and tbh they were successfull
security profiles you
Julian provided the best service! He was so amazing and made the best tasting drinks with the best attitude! Deserved a raise!!
Good vibes
Great company, great bar, tasty easy food! Definitely a stable visit.
It was a good place to chill upstairs. The bartender guys needs to smile often.
We found our new favorite place to hangout 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻!!
Hectic
Maybe next time, hire a bouncer who can effectively express the rules and treat customers in a humane manner. This was my first time at a place like this and I had no clue what the rules were about bringing outside alcohol. I had a can of a beverage and was stopped at the door which was fine- but instead of simply informing me of the rules, this bouncer decided to get aggressive and mock me before turning me away. I did NOT see any signage saying ‘alcohol-free zone’ or warnings and sure, this may be common knowledge in the bar scene but not to me. Mind you- I was fully sober and speechless because how are you supposed to respond to an unnecessary attack for something you didn’t know was a rule? I didn’t feel safe and considered calling the police. Its fine to inform me that I can’t enter the premises but getting aggressive is that last thing a hired bouncer should do. Please learn to have a grain human decency instead of assuming that everyone is a scum. You lost 20 customers that day, because naturally my friends left after finding that bouncer’s attitude rude and horrible.
Absolutely amazing food at an affordable price, drinks are very reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly
I got kicked out for yawning … hadn’t even had any alcohol that night. He didn’t give me a chance to tell my friends I was being taken out so I was stranded. Never came back.
Fridays are best day to go
A large Newtown pub but seams devoid of atmosphere during the week. Maybe it gets going at the weekend .
Thoroughly disappointed. Was charged $38 for three drinks (male) where as my girlfriend was charged $25 for the same three drink round (female). I asked the male bartender if I was getting charged correctly once I noticed this and he replied with “yes it’s correct”. Safe to say I won’t be back unless I transition into a female. Kind regards Hunter (male)
Consistently good, downstairs sports bar and upstairs music bar Food provided by fatbelly jacks which produce some of the best burgers in the inner west - and some of the best mashed potato but sadly this has been taken off the menu Fun events & trivia on Mondays is a great time I keep coming back again and again the the Marly!
Great place to organise a gathering. Down stairs is a sick dance floor too
Me and a mate on Friday night kicked out for being too intoxicated yet we were 1 drink in, we were clearly not and probably the most sober out of the place. Absolutely ridiculous dont come here unlesss you want to be told off and kicked out 👎
Service was great and a good atmosphere 👌
We traveled to Newtown for an hour from where we live and decided to give this pub a fair go. As soon as we got in there we brought one drink and when we were drinking the security guard and a woman kicked us out!!! We where shocked we where most certainly the most sober people in there. We will never come back to this hunk again accusing us of being to intoxicated what kind of Circus are you running here
Amazing place to catch up with friends
Very solid for a night out. Unfortunately my spicy memories from RPA mean I can’t work here due to the chaotic nature of the place, however rest assured if you have children that are going out here after studying at university or wanting to unwind they are in the absolute best care. I’ve seen the bar staff and licensee go well above what is expected or reasonable or required to ensure everyone gets home safe. Even if that means staying outside after hours to make sure people get home. Personally working in licensed venues since 1998 and I have not seen a more safety oriented venue in recent years which as a parent of children that are just exploring alcohol and going out I cannot overstate the piece of mind I have if they are drinking here. Just remember they are a very busy venue and have quite a lot of compliance and legislation to follow so be nice and respectful when you are here.
Good crowd and good music
Homely and comfy place to have a drink and a quick bite. Friendly staff and nice places to sit. A common visit for me when in Newtown for a night out
It’s huge & that’s great for a big night but if you’re doing a small catch up then get there early & grab a spot. Never had any issues with staff & environment is great in Summer (big outdoor area, fabbo, can be a bit hard in Winter, but its better to have it than not at all). Also - food is good for pub food 👍🏼✅
I have only spent time in the pokies lounge at the hotel, it has quite a few machines not bad to play in. The staff don't do the rounds very often so unless you approach the bar and ask for refreshments it's not likely that you will keep hydrated adequately during your play. The atmosphere is good though.
The security asked me and my partner to prove that we were gay, We kindly declined his offer and this is how we get treated for not showing public affection ? 0.1 star if I could but we know it ain’t possible
Been going for about a year on an early weeknight. Staff are super friendly and the drinks are good. Food is pretty average. I've found the music in the main bar downstairs is of good choice but too loud to have a conversation without shouting - this is the afternoon/early evening, not late night when I could understand louder music. Two weeks ago on a quiet weeknight before 7pm I saw rats scurrying from the beer garden to the area just inside, under the chairs and tables there, and then into the bar area. I get it's probably a problem for the surrounding area, but yeah, pretty gross. Maybe they need some resident cats.
Really wouldn’t bother with this pub. Terrible service. Was left standing at the bar to get served but he served the young ones over us and told us we were in the wrong spot when he’d just served others there. Still served others before us knowing we were there first. So we left, went to The Newtown Pub and the service was excellent and much better atmosphere.
We were a group of 8 celebrating the farewell of a close friend moving overseas. We were all dancing having fun, then a security guard comes to me and says I have to leave. I was gobsmacked, I had no idea what I did wrong. He said that I was too intoxicated judging by the way I danced. I had just bought a drink, and he was telling my to finish my drink and leave, to which I said “so you’re telling me I’m too intoxicated to be here, and that I know have to down my whole drink and leave” and he was like “yep”. How ironic is that?? I replied no thanks, I will slowly sip and enjoy my drink that I paid $14 for and then I will leave. How can they pretend they follow RSA laws by kicking out “intoxicated” people but then forcing me to down my drink before leaving. It was midnight Saturday night, Do they expect people to stay sober on a dance floor ? What’s wrong with being drunk dancing in a club? It’s literally what they’re made for. It’s places like this that give Sydney nightlife a bad reputation. No way would this happen in Melbourne or Brisbane. Ive read some reviews and noticed they have CCTV, so if the manager sees this I would love to see the events leading up to me getting kicked out. Shame on you for putting a sour end to what was a really fun night for me and my friends. EDIT AS OF 09/06/2024: I have emailed you as you requested but you never got back to me. Why is that ?
It's a standard pub but it's open late
Great pub, good vibes.
I gave my jumper to a staff member at the start of the night. After I tried to leave, a female described as brunette of a larger build was so rude when I tried to ask for my jumper back. The customer service at this bar is disgusting and I would not suggest going here ever. That thing working behind the bar should not be allowed a job, you know who you are x. Ps please refer to attached pic.
Amazing nightlife venue with a lot going late nights on Fridays & Saturdays. During the week it caters for the USyd & RPA crowds with various trivia events. On the week DJs sling top 40 bangers on the main level, with cover charged EDM events downstairs in Tokyo SingSong. Upstairs there's a very chill, sprawling space that's good for a quiet convo + there are two pool tables. There's an awesome beer garden downstairs open late. Great joint to watch the footy on the big screens, have a boogie on the weekends or if you're clocking off work late. Staff are always lovely & greet you with a smile, even when the bars are getting slammed. Well worth checking out if you're looking for a lively, energetic venue on the weekend or somewhere chill mid-week.
Had the funniest night at marly on Saturday! Shoutout to the guy on the door with the British accent, he was so awesome!!! Can’t for next weekend😫
Had a fantastic time there!! Super friendly atmosphere. Had a great time. Went to the Central Station Records fair in 2024. Thank you for hosting the event. Please do it again. 54M
Huge place with a great atmosphere.. Upstairs is good for conversation!!
got served by a lovely lady behind the bar I think her name was Megan she was very helpful and suggested lots of great drinks to try made it a great experience
Extremely busy due to the function that I attended. Bar staff looked pissed off that they had to serve so many queer people….. free drinks will do that to some people.
Went in completely sober and was asked to leave because they thought I was intoxicated. I complained and was threatened with police
Great place for late night dance. But the bouncers are the worse.
The woman at the door (she was wearing a pink top) was so rude. Fire her.
Okay, the manager, who is a woman. Absolutely misogynistic, was speaking to my friends and she said you do not speak to anyone that way? Did you grow up in Australia?? Absolutely self-absorbed, thinks she's better than everyone. Disgusted by the service, having a power-trip, she is abhorrent. Ruins the marly by a mile. She needs psychiatric help. Please wear a nicer top if you're gonna be denying people as well, no standards at this bar. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Everyone else but this witch was wonderful, of course she wouldn't say her name. She should be ashamed of herself. If zero stars was a possibility I would leave it at that...
Great event space specially tokyo sing song downstairs
My first time been in the place
Dan And Nick are the best ! Upstairs bar staff are so kind and supportive 😊❤️
