It’s my fifth time here in the past month and I have tried both their yum cha and dinner menu. Personally, I enjoy their offerings at dinner a little bit more. Their chicken is amazing, it’s a must order! The staff here are all really nice and friendly. This is definitely one of the regular places that I will eating at in Chatswood.
If i could give zero stars i would. We were shoved in a corner with the same 3 trolleys coming around. The staff ignored use the food we did get was luke warm at best. A terrible experience
食物好吃,很有早茶味道,气氛也很好👍
Service was appalling, waiters were unengaged not much variety or food for Yum Cha even though the place was packed with locals.
Visited on a week day for a yum cha fix and for the most part the dishes we ordered from the trolley were good however I would say choices were quite limited with some basics missing or not available. It seemed like the same two trolleys were making their rounds over and over again with barely any new additions each time. Also definitely on the pricier side. We ordered 7 dishes total and it came to $110. That’s about $15 per dish and with 4 or less dumplings or items per dish that works out to be $3.75-$5 per item on the dish. Overpriced if you look at it that way. Overall not blown away by any means, not in a rush to come back.
Excellent Cantonese style restaurant. The steam fish (parrot) and crabs were very fresh and cooked to perfection. Surprisingly it’s hard to find a good Cantonese style restaurant in chatswood so this one of the best for me !
Great new yumcha place in chatswood. Also dinner was amazing too. All ingredient taste fresh and clean, seasoned just right. Highly recommend anyone to try it out.
Dim sum was good but not amazing... noodle dishes expense and average. Another Terry dud.
Very dissatisfied Ordered a chicken dish, and got served what looked like everyone’s leftover scraps I will be writing a formal complaint No chicken in the dish $190 and for 4 of us were left hungry Serving sizes small - made to look big by piling on onions or some other random garnish Plate full of peanuts but no chicken
Authentic Cantonese cuisine. Food was served quickly and all six dishes were delicious and servings were ample. We finished everything between the eight of us and we were all full.
Appalling. Avoid
Had a fantastic family reunion lunch (a relative came home from overseas) at Dim Joy Restaurant in Chatswood RSL today. Average $40 per person for 13 persons (price inclusive of 10 dishes of delicious food and Chinese tea) which we deemed as good value as it included a steamed live coral trout. We also had deep fried barramundi and free range chicken for dinner four days ago ($35 average each for two persons). The restaurant was packed to capacity for lunch today (and there was a queue outside) and as the owner Carmen commented ‘people are here for the good food). Luckily we made prior booking few days ago. Highly recommended.
My favourite yumcha restaurant on the north shore. Food always tasty and service top notch.
Despite reservation had to join queue for 30mins. Unfriendly service. Had one person with prawn allergy but despite saying no prawns we were served dumplings and spring rolls with prawns
Friendly staff and fresh food . The dishes was nice and good size. We ordered special Chinese soup and was delicious. They also have yumcha dim sim at lunch time in dim sim trolley. Will visit regularly and try other dishes :)
I literally wrote this review while waiting for food. I don't think I've had a worse yum cha experience in recent memory, and I've been to may spots all over Sydney. Came as a couple for yum cha at 11:15am and we got shafted to the corner of the restaurant in the private room area. This meant that it was very difficult for the trolleys to come in and for the very few that came, the popular items got quickly snapped up by the 3 big tables in front of us. This literally meant while every other table was eating, we had nothing but the tea on our table to enjoy for the first 10-15 minutes. When some food came in, we basically took whatever we could get as we were starving. We literally got out first plate of har gao (steamed prawn dumplings) 45 minutes into a 90 minute dining time limit. Completely ruined the experience and my appetite was lost. Was on the verge of simply walking out at the start (and honestly the staff probably wouldn't have noticed). Pity because the food was actually pretty good when we actually got some. If you do decide to come, don't come as a couple. Come in a bigger group so you don't get shafted to some random corner.
What can I say. What an exceptional meal with excellent service. Carmen and the team looked after us super well, making suggestions and recommendations for a great meal. We have eaten Cantonese across the globe including many HK locations and this was up there with the best. Out of the many fantastic dishes that we had, some of the stand outs were steamed mud crab with ginger and shallots sauce and e-fu noodles, lightly battered eggplant with salty eggyolk sauce, whole Peking duck with second course noodles, and diced beef with homemade pepper sauce. And the RSL club prices for drinks was a welcome surprise! The best service I’ve had in a Chinese restaurant. Thanks Dim Joy. Highly recommend!
Overall, very disappointing experience. Food was so expensive, and not as good as other yum cha places. Many more choices around chatswood.
It was a pleasure to try another yum cha restaurant in Chatswood, and this one was located inside the Chatswood RSL club, next to the station. Dim Joy has a medium sized dining hall, and there appeared to be an adjoinong overflow or function room which was unoccupied when we attended for Thursday lunch. As usual, there was a steady flow of steaming hot dishes served from trollies and a wide variety on offer. The quality of their prawn dumplings and steamed vegetarian dumplings was very good. Our bill came to $33 a head, which is a little on the high side, although admittedly we did order quite a few dishes, including a seafood fried rice. Dim Joy is recommended for a group lunch while in Chatswood.
average chinese food in the RSL club
Try lunch with colleagues , walk in and leave straight away…. Terrible RSL reception service and confusing to find the restaurant in side the RSL
Came for dinner as a multigenerational family with grandparents and kids in tow, and there was something for everyone. Grandparents come regularly for yum cha here and have membership with the RSL so could sign in with us and lead us through to the restaurant (there are a number of pokie rooms to pass by). Most of the other tables seemed to be enjoying seafood including pippis and crab. For ourselves, we had a whole steamed coral trout and abalone. The kids liked the sweet and sour pork, whilst I enjoyed the Japanese-style diced beef (wasabi) and egg-yolk crusted prawns and cuttlefish. The non-seafood dishes came out very quickly. Staff are helpful with recommendations as to what is fresh and seasonal, and when they saw how much the kids enjoyed the complimentary fruit at the end, also asked if they’d like mango pancakes (usually for the lunch time yum cha) which delighted the kids.
Delicious, classic Cantonese Chinese food. Yum cha lunch has the usual menu items executed well - delightful dumplings and just the right amount of fried treats. Dinner is delicious with prompt service too. 5 stars, highly recommend
We had yum cha at Dim Joy House on a busy Sunday. Although we were in a smaller room next to the main dining room, the trolleys circulated around our area quite frequently. Standard yum cha items were all available. Food is not as refined as other restaurants but overall, it's alright and I wouldn't mind revisiting. Service is uneven, with some staff being nicer and more helpful than others. Dim Joy House is inside the Chatswood RSL which means you need to sign up as a member of the club if you live within 5km.
Food was okay - not the best nor worst yumcha food I’ve had. Interior fit out was aesthetically pleasing and obviously new, however it seemed there was no consideration for any acoustic treatment with the hard floor, wall, & ceiling surfaces at the main room and only carpet in the second room, which is detrimental to a loud and often chaotic yumcha environment. Service left a lot to be desired. Despite our table being near the kitchen servicing doorway, we were only properly served by 1 of 4 dimsum carts, at the start after we got our tea. 2nd cart that came around, the cart lady never spoke a word and just kept opening each stack of bamboo basket to show what she had without any explanation, despite asking her in Cantonese if she had certain items - never responded even with just yes or no. Okay, we thought maybe she didn’t speak. But as soon as another table asked her something, also in Cantonese, she was immediately speaking back in Mandarin and has been speaking ever since for the duration we were there, just not to us. 3rd cart came by our area a few times but also never acknowledged our table or even asked once if we wanted anything from her cart any time she came around. Okay, no biggie again, we heard her telling other tables what she had and weren’t interested anyway. 4th cart was the real rollercoaster, and somehow not even entirely the fault of the cart lady at all. We actually didn’t know there was a 4th cart until about halfway into our session, as she was in the other room the entire time. We waited patiently as she headed our way, only for her cart to get pulled back to make way for the cleaning carts due to inadequate circulation, and somehow end up back in the other room. When she finally emerged again, she ended up going the other way. At this point none of the tables in my area had seen a cart for at least 10 minutes. A couple and their toddler sitting next to us had decided to leave after only being able to get two dishes. By the time this 4th cart finally came around her cart was already empty. I’d asked another staff in that duration if we were able to order a certain dimsum, and his immediate response was to order from the cart ladies. How? I haven’t seen one come around in so long? It should be noted that some staff were trying to make things better, but consistency and circulation of the different carts needs serious improvement, especially if they are limiting people to 90 minutes of table time. Perhaps a circulation diagram needs to be drawn up to make sure the carts get to all the tables. Tea had been quickly refilled, but on one occasion, because the path had been blocked by Cart 1 and another cleaning cart, the staff decided it was a good idea to place our teapot back on our table by going over my mum’s shoulder. We found that incredibly dangerous and negligent given the tea is boiling hot. Food was pricey, within the expected range for Chatswood. I found it humorous when the lady at the pay station openly asked if we wanted to tip, given the poor service we received, and that an inflated Sunday tea & sauce surcharge was already applied. Overall, not looking to come back any time soon if ever.
A succulent Chinese meal ;)
Friendly staff with a clean and tidy setting. Food was fresh and tasty with nice size portions (I ordered traditional chicken sang choy bao along with stir fried mongolian beef). Thumb up and I was impressed.
My Mum & I ate here today, we were so excited to try Chatswood's newest yum cha! We arrived at 11.30am, they weren't busy and were seated politely and quickly. We ordered three dishes - prawn dumplings, BBQ pork cheung fun and ham sui gok (footballs), all three dishes were served at room temp / cold, and very average from a quality perspective. For three standard trolley yum cha plates and two chinese teas (which were thankfully piping hot) almost $50! We felt it was overpriced from a quality perspective too, not to mention served fresh and hot! We did share our feedback when paying, they said we should have told them at the time of the food being served. As I'm sure many are aware, returning food at yum cha isn't really the done thing, and the onus is on the server/restaurant to know if their food is being served fresh or hot/cold?! Either way, a very disappointing experience. We won't be back and wished we'd not bothered going in the first place! There's much better yum cha restaurants to eat at in Sydney.
Went for yum cha lunch solo. Atmosphere & Service: It wasn't packed as it was 11am on a Monday. Serving staff were nice, lady at the front desk wasn't too friendly, was seated near the front which you sometimes can small the cigarette smoke from the nearby smoking room, so maybe sit further away if it will affect you. Dining area wasn't too big but didn't have any issues getting food from the carts as they were always circling. Food: was a 8/10 with the standout being sesame prawn bread. Su Mai was delicious and tea was great. Mango pancakes were a let down as they used faux cream, but overall the food was great. Price: Was rather pricey but pretty much standard in Chatswood I guess, even with the 10% off for RSL members, my bill was still $84 just for one person, but I guess I eat alot 🤣
Father’s Day celebration, a Cantonese style dinner, black pepper beef was tender, roasted pigeon was authentic and the spicy clama with rice noodle pancakes was must ordered! Will come back.
Delicious as always, definitely the best in Chatwood
We had yum Cha at this little gem of a restaurant situated upstairs in the Chatswood RSL. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, you cannot book for Yum Cha so I highly recommend you arrive early or you will have to queue, it is extremely popular and rightly so, the food was fresh and delicious, with a good selection, you can also order from the a la carte menu. The restaurant is licenced with everything at club prices, so very reasonably priced and if you are a Chatswood RSL member you will receive a 10% discount. Our party was very impressed and we will certainly be returning, highly recommended!
If you want the feelings like back to Hong Kong, this is the one Authentic Canton dishes and dim sum Fair price with excellent food quality But it’s so crowd, service is bit a late I will come back again
不錯港式酒樓
I love this place and the dim sum! Food is amazing
Dim Joy Restaurant truly captures the essence of authentic dim sum with every bite! The freshness of the dishes is unparalleled, and the push cart ladies add a charming touch with their warm, attentive service. Dining here is a delightful experience that brings the true spirit of dim sum to life!
Great food great service
點心真係唔錯,尤其係個菠蘿叉燒包同埋個蛋撻,完全還原到原本應該香港嘅口味,服務唔錯,裝修新淨,喺Chatswood應該係最好飲茶嘅地方
After reading some negative reviews, I was hesitant to try this place due to concerns about bad and expensive food. However, we had a family reunion for lunch, and since this location is conveniently next to the train and metro station, we decided to go ahead. To my surprise, the food was quite good and fresh. We arrived early, at around 11:15 AM, just after they opened at 11 AM. Since yum cha pricing is often unclear until the end, I was shocked by the bill, which was a lot lower than expected based on reviews suggesting the food was overpriced. However, after receiving a 10% discount with a membership that costs just $5.50 per year, the final price was actually cheaper than most yum cha places in the city. The membership paid for itself and more. I will definitely return, especially with the added convenience of free parking at Westfield and the Mandarin Centre, as the club itself has limited parking space.
Great dimsum around chatswood!
饮茶真棒,虾饺很好吃 服务态度良好 气氛 舒服
very authentic canton food . price and quality are average. member have 10 % discount. definitely will be back !
Very expensive yum cha and the food was terrible. 9 dishes for 103 dollars is a rip off. The lady boss with short hair has bad attitude and doesn't smile with an angry face. Customer service is appalling and the food is below average and overpriced
My husband, kids and I dined for yum cha today and throughly enjoyed everything. Nice to go to a Chinese restaurant with a nice modern fit out for a change! Food was fresh and delicious and I was happy the fussy kids found 2 new yum cha dishes they loved. Price also reasonable, especially for chatswood standards. Some of the other reviewers have complained about poor service but we didn’t experience this at all. I assume perhaps teething issues -it is a new restaurant after all! Will be our new go-to for yum cha in Chatswood!
Not authentic Chinese food and extremely overpriced. Many of the dishes taste like homemade food. Food was also incredibly slow. The restaurant is also driving a bunch of people to the club causing a serious shortage of many facilities. Many other restaurants available in the area.
The congee charge at $12.42 as high as beef tendon! A ol..d lad..y staff give a free egg tart to another table but charge us large plate! So unfair, never go again……
We went there at 11am and this place is already packed. We have 4 adults and 2 babies and were offered a table of 4 without highchairs otherwise would have to wait for another hour. We took the table but it's almost impossible to eat having the kids sitting on your nap. so we finished early. Food was only soso and all the tables are so tightly packed that the dim sum trolley couldn't even get pass. I was later told that there's only 5 highchairs there. It's really ridiculous. Avoid this place at all cost if you want to bring kids along.
Had the dim sum as lunch today. Food tasted normal but the price is shocking. 2 small cups of water costs 4.4. The dim sum prices are so pricey and after the lunch, not even feeling 75% full. Feels like scam and will never go back to this place for sure. And the cashier attitude is so bad when making payment.
For the size of this venue, i think their food is quite on point. Priced wise, for a RSL restaurant is slightly on the upper side but for Chatswood's average spending it is fair.
The service is great and the dumplings are so delicious!
I took my 3 daughters to try this new yum cha restaurant I'd heard so many good reviews on. We arrived at 1:30pm and we were surprised that we got a table especiallyonarainy Saturday. The head waiter was familiar to me as he had worked at the fish market yum cha years ago. We chatted, he was very attentive, the cart lady came around with not many options but I thought there would be more as it was still early. I was wrong. The remaining food on the open carts was cold and no further hot food was offered. By this stage it was only 2pm, more people were coming to the restaurant but it seemed the service was being finalised. I proceeded to pay as we didn't think there was any point in waiting. Boy was I in for a big shock. This was the most expensive yum cha I have ever been to. Hence to say I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. Where do they get off charging $5:40 for a can of Coke No Sugar. If you want substandard food and to pay through the nose, then go to Dim Joy House. I found no joy there. I feel cheated.
Been all over insta and tik tok as a hidden gem. Came for dinner, no dim sum. Order off the menu. Ordered a plate a noodles and a plate of fried rice. It’s half an hour and I’m still waiting. Don’t come if you’re in a hurry.
The restaurant caters for food allergens. Although the venue is inside RSL they are still super friendly with kids. Had a great experience.
Came here for the first time as it’s new. Let’s start with the good: • really nice decor, obviously brand new fitout, probably more suited to dinner settings. • egg tarts were fresh, fluffy pastry with hot custard inside one of the best in Sydney! Unfortunately that’s all the good. Not so great: • the RSL isn’t very welcoming to those that require lifts and ramps you can tell the ramps are temporarily made out of fresh wood and not something that was in the blueprint of the building. It was very inconvenient and long winded to go up one floor with 2 lifts and 2 ramps to arrive. • the restaurant is actually small which means the trolleys can’t fit very well next to the tables • service was really slow and as other reviewers have mentioned, by the time the trolleys or trays arrive on other side of restaurant the food is gone so we ended up having to order a lot of dishes. Would we return? Yes we would but just be mindful of the above
Decided to try this new Chinese restaurant the Chatswood RSL and had a pleasant dinner. The salted fish and chicken fried rice was on point and the king prawn vermicelli claypot was very tasty.Service was great but recognise that we just missed the dinner crowd. Will come back again to try the yum cha next time!
We had great time here with family, The food is amazing,we all very enjoyed it. Will definitely be back !
We waited over an hour and only had one plate. The servers were trying their best but they couldn’t cope with the volume of tables. $64 for one plate and some drinks is pretty disappointing.
Had yum cha but the food is ok only. Not really impressed, not much choices as well. Also they charge for sauce fee as well. Definitely won’t come back
Went there to try Yum Cha and the food is pretty decent there and good, can be better. There are long queues in its opening hours and easier to get in for 2 people. The service was a little slow in turning out the food trolley and most of the dishes were gone by the time it got out.
The food was ok. The only downfall was that we sat inside one of the rooms and hardly any dim sum trolleys came in. And when they did, they were the same dim sums.
This new place is quite a gem. A wide variety of Cantonese dishes with very cozy seating.
Located inside chatswood rsl. 10 % off if you show your membership card. Went for yum cha..limited variety but nice & hot. Tables are quite small (see attached photo). Food is on average with decent serving size..and the price is similar on comparison with Chinatown. Bill for 2 persons, 5 dishes of dim sum, total $66 after 10% discount. Would definitely come back again for the baked bbq buns (墨西哥叉燒飽, first time i have seen these in Sydney). Chiu Chow dumplings (潮州粉果)is not the best but it is better than that in China Town. Staff were attentive.
What a wonderful restaurant. The food that we ate there at Yumcha recently was magnificent. All was cooked to perfection. When next you are in Chatswood, you simply must try there. Children friendly too.
Very good services and good food.
A friend who lives in Chatswood told us about the opening of a new Cantonese restaurant/yum cha place at the Chatswood RSL, so we were extremely excited to try this place out. At first we wanted to do yum cha, but a few of us couldn't make it in the morning, so we decided to do dinner instead. When we arrived, we were asked for IDs, as we're not members of the club. No hassle, but do remember to bring a photo ID if you're not a member as you'll be refused entry otherwise. The host was extremely accommodating when we told her our party of six didn't have a booking, and seated us after a few minutes' wait. The room was fairly full, even though the host told us they've only been open for a few days. There were live seafood options in the menu, but we opted for other dishes on the menu as you judge the quality of a good Canto restaurant by how their chefs do the 'simpler' dishes on the menu. We started off with the cold whole chicken, an extremely well-received dish by our party. Finished that off in no time, but this dish may not suit everyone as it's served cold. We love the freshness the free-range chicken. The other dishes we had were the salt and pepper pork ribs, the pork ribs with vinegar, the tofu with scallops and prawns, the black pepper beef, the caulini with preserved meats, and the Yang Chow fried rice. All were extremely well-presented, and more importantly, great tasting. The two stand-out dishes for us were the caulini with preserved meats and the Yang Chow fried rice. These two dishes truly showcased the skills of the chefs - these two dishes may look simple to prepare, but to create the right amount of crunchiness with the right amount of 'wok hei' really did say to us these were done by truly old-school Cantonese chefs with loads of experience. The service was efficient and most importantly, friendly. Before posting this review, I did look at some of the reviews posted earlier. Some people were critical of the service or the length some dishes took to come out. C'mon people, there are bound to be some kinks when a restaurant first opened, especially in the current environment when it's so hard to find good staff. The reason why I wanted to post this review was because I know people who have had a good experience seldom post their reviews, but the negative ones are always so eager to put theirs up. We will definitely be back, but this time, will register as members as you get a 10% discount. And definitely for yum cha!
Visited this new Chinese restaurant within Chatswood RSL with my family (12+ pax) and it was an absolutely delightful experience! The food at Dim Joy exceeded all expectations. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavours, and the presentation was impeccable. The staff was incredibly attentive, friendly and conversational which made our dining experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit for anyone craving delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine.
Arrived at 5pm and ordered 12 dishes. By 7pm, only 4 dishes had been served: san choy bow, salt and pepper squid, and coral trout with slow-poached chicken. We informed the manager and senior staff about the delay 4 times. Each time, we received excuses, with the manager claiming she couldn't control the kitchen's pace. Meanwhile, other groups who arrived later were served promptly. After the fourth complaint and still no progress, we decided to leave in frustration. The poor service was compounded by the manager insisting we pay for the few dishes we received, without any sincere apology or offer of compensation.
Arrived at 5pm. Ordered 12 dishes. By 7pm, only 4 dishes had come out (San choy bow, salt and pepper squid, coral trout and slow poached chicken) During those times, we advised the manager and a senior staff where our food was 4 different times. On the final time, the manager made another excuses and said that she is unable to control how the kitchen prepares its food. However during this other groups of people came, ordered and ate before us. After waiting again after the 4th time for advising the staff where our food was, nothing came out and we got fed up and left. Such poor service and the manager insisted on making us pay for the dishes that had already come out without any sincere apology or compensation.
I finally went to Dim Joy House last night after hearing from my friends about this new restaurant in Chatswood RSL. We ordered dishes recommended by the friendly staff and were pleasantly surprised by the taste and freshness of the ingredients. Highly recommend the Special Fried Tofu and Black Pepper Beef.
Tried dinner at Dim Joy today. The seafood is very fresh, and the prices are reasonable. The food service was a bit slow, but it was acceptable for their soft opening. I hope it keeps getting better.
Fantastic! Chatswood RSL Club has finally opened a decent seafood restaurant. The dim sum is so authentic, great atmosphere .
Less than impressed. Ordered 4 items: Item 1 - Took 10 minutes to tell us the entree was unavailable. Item 2 - Prawn dish, had to complain twice that it still hadn't arrived. It arrived over 90 minutes after ordering. Item 3 - Chicken dish, arrived but the waitstaff crossed item 2 off list which was written in Chinese and told us it was the chicken dish. Item 4 - Fried rice, probably twice as much as we needed so fairly expensive. The decor is lovely and looks newly decorated and I'm not sure how long they have been open. We have been there (Chatswood RSL Chinese Resturant) about every 6 months for the last 15 years under different trading names. In the renovation they closed off the previous view (for better or worse?) of the kitchen.
Disgusting service. Meals were wrong. We were treated terribly. Vegetarian dishes had meat in them. We complained and they couldn’t care less. Will never go back.
Located upstairs in the local RSL is this yum cha restaurant. Food is serviceable, however the layout of the tables are difficult for the carts to come to especially if you’re stuck in a corner. Can’t be providing a glowing review as the service is less to be desired from entry to requesting for food - asked for an ordered food twice and waited for over 20 mins; still nothing came out. Save your time as there are better dim sum places in Sydney.
