Good food and service staff. Beware their marketing materials (on every table) of “happy hours”. Nowhere does it say that you have to become a member to get the happy hour discount. A bit misleading given the other specials advertised don’t require membership.

joe was a great bartender and helped me out a lot. i thought he did a great job and i commend him. The manager i think her name was christine did a superb job and customer service was beyond incredible. Ursula served me in the past a few times as well and has left a positive impression….

Great food and service

Briliant

Nice feed and atmosphere

Great setup, decor, people and food. Lamb chops were all time good!

Nice spot near the Randwick racecourse. Need more staff to service the sportsbar and pokies area. Good location and plenty of access though.

Great pub for a few beverages

Very nice

Nice staff...Nice food...but Guinness better served in pint glasses ..not schooner glasses ....🫣

It is a fair public house Thank you

Superb local. Elegant, clean and great service and food. Reasonable prices and oodles of understated atmosphere. Prof Steve Gatt, Kensington

Nice feed

I’ve had to update my review after the meteoric decline of this once lovely pub. It has a mix of old and new and the recent addition of fresh beer tanks is a nice touch. The ladies are always out mingling with staff and keeping things clean and topped up. Sadly they aren’t all that well trained and appear out of depth with issues relating to betting machines, pokies and meals from the bistro. Two knocks, there is a distinct absence of senior management which leads to many basic mistakes and they charge an unadvertised credit card fee and don’t take Amex. Seems a little 2015. My mates tell me they’ve the meanest pokies in town. Not sure I’ve ever been there when the jackpot has gone off, but hey, if people play regardless, why not take their money. The past month is a funny one, I’ve been there and seen the major jackpot ever so slowly creep up at less than $1000 a fortnight. How? They’ve 30+ machines. They need better management, training and an overall refresh of some facilities.

Discusting service - refused me a drink because I had a work function and hugged my friend because I hadn't seen her for many weeks. Refused me a drink because of a hug. Discusting. My grandfather passed away and that is how they treat me. Like some drunk idiot. I would never go back here.

The staff were friendly, and there was a good range of pub food. However, the Wednesday $18 chicken schnitzel deal was disappointing. The portion was small, with the chicken thinly bashed and only a handful of chips. Offering a deal that doesn’t feel like good value seems counterproductive. What’s meant to attract customers has, in fact, made me reconsider returning—at least not for the food.

Come play Texas Holdem poker on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, the food is good too.

Very friendly staff, beautiful interior and great prices. Definitely will be back

Nice local pub. Had a pre-concert dinner with mates. Good beers and a pretty decent schnitty.

Good basic pub grub. They’ve got a loyalty program and nightly specials, which makes it economic

I visited the bar during happy hour on a Saturday, expecting the advertised $5 beer special. However, when I inquired about the promotion, I was informed by one of the staff that it was a “members only deal.” When I asked how to become a member, the staff member dismissively responded with “no, what do you want,” which was both rude and unhelpful. Additionally, the staff member rolled her eyes, sighed, and appeared visibly frustrated, as if my questions were an inconvenience. This level of customer service is unacceptable. When I ordered a Great Northern, the interaction continued to feel unnecessarily impatient and unprofessional. To make matters worse, on the day before his birthday, my friend was accidentally charged $350 instead of $35, which is a serious issue, his mortgage and electricity is due this coming week and he will have to dig out his savings to cover it as the refund will be processed by Tuesday/Wedneaday, While the refund was processed, this mistake, coupled with the poor attitude and disorganization of the staff, left a lasting negative impression. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that you address the lack of professionalism and attention to detail in your service. These experiences are not conducive to repeat business.

Great food well priced and always fresh

Nice atmosphere and the bar keep Amy was lovely. Though they should get to have one or two on the house... Would make it a more respected establishment

Terrible

Excellent for lunch. Good serving of batter flathead fish fillets with chips- a special. Exellent! BR/Randwick

A very nice hotel, modern, friendly service, good food , great to watch sports in, comfortable seating.

Always a pleasure to eat and drink at the Doncaster

Venue

Is Don. Is good

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere …. however, the most ridiculous wine glasses ever created ???? so small as to beggar belief - PLEASE move into 2024 & provide your patrons with a glass that does justice to a great wine selection PLEASE

The upstairs is quite busy on a Tuesday night. Seems to be way too many Children running around. Please check the steak is well done . Twice now it's been under cooked.

Amazing bar. Food is great and very tasty! Membership is worth it as it has so many perks. Lots of great seating and heating. Will be back often!!

Great place to hang out

Great pub, excellent food, staff are extremely friendly! Would recommend it to anyone

I had Chicken Parmy and it was the worst I had in my entire life. I had parmy in different states; some were excellent, others were ok, but at the Doncaster it was the worst; it was so thin to the extent that you can't taste the chicken. Normally Parmy comes with ham but at the Doncaster they charge $ 2 for the ham which isn't a big deal if the taste was there. And where is the sauce ? I don't know, may be they forgot it in the pot in their minus star kitchen !!!!! I will never step foot in that place again and I don't recommend it to anyone. Rediculous

Good bistro. Relaxing atmosphere.

Always good food and great friendly staff 🍻

I am giving 4 stars for the Doncaster as a whole as I have gone here many times and the food and staff are great. I do want to highlight the disgusting way this security guard spoke to me. I was here after the races today with a group of friends as I have done many times before. I took my heels off to dance (as I also have done many times before) and he came up to me and said “put your shoes back on, if I se them off again you are out” I put my shoes on and left. Fair enough if I have done the wrong thing. If he had come and politely asked me to put my shoes on, no problem. My issue is the rude and demanding nature he spoke to me and other women he asked the same thing of. I did not see him speak to any of the men the same way. I have a photo I can show you if you need.

The upstairs seating is good, especially on a weeknight. I ordered the margarita pizza and thought that the base was well done and the ingredients were in the correct proportions

Had a great night of food & drinks!

Great hotel with lot's of area's to enjoy. Food was great. Just needs a champagne on the list of beves

Food is good

I once came here quite regularly. What I saw concerned me deeply. It wasn't the dad's jockeying for the DIY BBQ, frankly a waste of money btw. No, it was the behaviour of whom I think might be the owner. I glimpsed a tall, vaguely British Royal looking man looming over the bar staff. I kept watching. In a moment I'm sure he thought was one of privacy, he looked around and snatched a small garden spider which had been lingering on the wall nearby. He popped it into his mouth and savoured it. He caught my eye, and with not a glimmer of emotion, swallowed and walked away. I promptly told my family we had to go, even though we had food coming. The wife and I downed our Jager bombs and hurried out, but not before the man was back and looking at me with a violent lustful eye. This memory haunts me, great venue for a family dinner though...

My recent experience at The Doncaster Hotel was a mixed bag. While the food has seen better days, with overcooked roast pork slices and poorly flavored salmon, the beers remain decent. The venue, housed in a lovely old historic building, has undergone modernization, losing some of its old-fashioned pub charm. The atmosphere, dark and noisy, posed communication challenges despite the great service from the bar staff. The security measures, however, were commendable. Despite the inconsistency in my personal experiences, having not visited for a while, I found myself returning with family and friends on consecutive nights due to the exceptional quality of the meals. The monthly catch-up with my son at The Doncaster remains a delight, offering great food and an awesome atmosphere. The specials, free parking, and excellent service added to the positive aspects. The pub caters to diverse preferences, from screens for punters to a bistro upstairs and even a dance floor for those inclined. The Tuesday special, featuring the best sirloin steak in Sydney for $20, is a highlight, and the live fireplace creates a cozy vibe. Although there were mixed reviews on the pasta, with tasty pesto penne and bland garlic prawn linguine, the large prawns were a notable highlight. The burger selection stood out as one of the best, with accommodating staff providing a gluten-free option. Despite these positives, a severe lapse in customer service, described as unfriendly and arrogant, left a lasting negative impression. I sincerely hope the management addresses this issue promptly, as a simple connection with a smile can go a long way. Overall, The Doncaster Hotel offers a range of experiences, and while there are areas for improvement, the positive aspects make it worth considering for future visits.

Haven’t eaten there for a while despite being a local however I’ve taken family and friends on consecutive nights as the meals were so good

Very clean, spacious establishment, great for horse racing/ or quiet chat.staff are very professional.

Lovely old historic building but modernised so you lose the charm of this old fashioned pub. Dark, packed out & noisy. Great service from bar staff, but it is difficult to communicate with the background noise and massive sound systems. Very good security, inebriated persons not allowed into the premises

Mmmmmm Beer

Great hotel with nice and friendly staff

Food was good, service was also good, and they keep the place open for after the the show drinks, thanks to the personal.

Classic pub

Worst food I have had in a long time. After waiting for a long time, the food came in cold. The roasted pork, the chicken and haloumi from the salad could kill someone if thrown into their heads. Nothing seemed fresh, rather leftovers from the weekend. The roasted pork was way overcooked, really hard to cut. Great disappointment. Wont go back for food until they do something about it.

Great food, later in the week. Avoid Mondays

Very good atmosphere, lovely staff. Yummy basic food. Upstairs area is open and airy.

Great food, the specials are a great deal, lovely atmosphere, excellent service and free parking! What else can you ask?

Food used to be good here! Beers are still okay. The roast pork slices were way overcooked and the salmon was poorly flavoured. At the prices charged you have to do a good job, or get a better chef! Won't be back for a long while and its my local!

I eat at the Doncaster each month with my son. It's his local and our regular catchup venue. Great food, awesome atmosphere. I love it. Do yourself a favour and get there.
