Clean toilet

Great for a casual gathering. Good food, good beer variety.

My favourite local pub! Consistently good service, bevvies and food! Love the booths they're my fav spot!

Went and had the Sunday roast last night…… Wow! Amazing, I’ll definitely be making this my new go to.

Visited today, ordered two $36 grain fed sirloins with chips and salad. Requested medium cook, both steaks were practically blue, salad was old, wilted and grainy. Both of us now have food poisoning. Additionally there were small cockroaches all over the place. Unhygienic, expensive and extremely disappointing.

Great place to have a beer and a meal 🙂

Ordered the Sunday roast. I had the chicken. Almost not worth eating.

Always a great location for catching up with friends and family. It's awesome

Rory is the cream master at the dog Best guiness pints in town!

We went to the pub mid week after 10pm and I must say, it's a great little pub with a beautiful ambience. My only desire is for them to have the kitchen open later to cater for people who want a late night snack. It would have been perfect to go there for a late snack with a pint of Guinness.

A lovely night

Excellent pub for food beer and service

I am visiting from Ireland. My son's speak so highly of the DOG, it did not disappoint. We will be back very soon.

We are pretty regular here. Have to say the so called Spice Bag is underwhelming. D”It seens the food is beginning to slide into mediocrity . And that was why we came.

I had the best Sunday roast recently—it was perfect from start to finish! The meat was tender and juicy, the roast potatoes were crispy, and the Yorkshire pudding was spot-on. The rich gravy tied it all together, Highly recommended!

Scruffy was so pleased to have a great Sunday lunch in the DOG beer garden. He can’t wait to be back. His pawrents loved their rotisserie chicken pitas and Guinness pie, mash and peas.

Love the food, selection of drinks and atmosphere at this place. We went for trivia on a Wednesday night this visit.

Pub has nice ambience and look about it but the food is extremely poor for a Merivale. The chicken schnitzels were small, processed chicken and almost rubbery to chew with hardly any vegetables. The beans were pretty much raw. Definitely not worthy of a pub meal. We will not be back!

Great pub

Lunch Specials are no longer specials, there has been a price increase of $5 across the board. Chicken Schnitzel went from $16 to $21. Quite disappointing as it used to be a nice spot for lunch and a few drinks with friends.

Had the Beef roast. Was delicious, just wish there was no seasoning in the mashed veg. I have a pepper intolerance and take medication every day. My intollerance is not usually triggered when I avoid veg in the pepper family. Had to take medication and leave the mashed veg. However, I did not alert any staff to my condition who may have been able to advise me to choose something different. The rest of my party had a great meal, clean plates from all of them.

We went today for a late lunch, after a couple of years between visits. Sadly we were very disappointed in the food. We ordered the chicken parmy and the steak; two pub classics; both sadly prepared with no love from the chef on duty. The parmy was borderline inedible, with what tasted like packet Woolworths ham on top, the tomatoe pasta sauce had no flavour or seasoning, and tasted like it had been prepared minutes before from a jar. The chicken snichzel itself also tasted like it had been prepared and selected from the deli aisle of the supermarket. The steak ordered medium, was inconsistently coooked, very rare in parts, and well done in others 🤷‍♂️. All in all very disappointed especially to have paid nearly $80 for both meals. Def go somewhere else to eat, maybe go for drinks and ambiance.

Me and my girlfriend came down to the dog for steak night and we got 4 pieces of steak each was the smallest amount of steak I’ve ever gotten in any restaurant in my life.. im actually disgusted about what was on my plate il never be back for the steak special ever again…

When the kitchen upstairs hoses down it leaked to the female toilets down stair! opening the door the mess from then kitchen goes all over you. The owner doesn’t care! This once great pub must mlbe a tax write off. Pub Management and staff are amazing.

Careful, this is not a dog friendly pub, despite the name. They will force you to go outside

The staff here are so well trained it’s a testament to the management to have young staff who are so customer service focused. We live around the corner and are regular visitors and the two times we’ve had minor issues the managers have instantly jumped in with a great solve the problem attitude. Shout out to Sam for being so positive and keen to get it right. In an era where local venues are closing and customer service is declining this place stands out.

Great spot for a catchup wine with friends.

Food is good but can be noisy.

Absolutely terrible Sunday roast, served with frozen vegetables and cold. 0/10

Its decent but nothing amazing. staff were friendly!

Without a doubt my local and by far greatest pub. The food, the staff and atmosphere is incredible. I look forward to many more good times at this pub.

Sunday roast was so disappointing. Came out cold, roast potatoes tasted like they had been sitting around since the morning (had lost their crisp and gone soft)and the gravy taste burnt.

A wonderful pub. Modern yet ornamental, showing character through its ages, from pressed metal ceilings to gorgeous wooden panels theoughout. It's a warm, welcoming & certainly woody environment, full of spaces for a solo drink or two catch up with friends on a lounge or table. Yet to try any food here, but certainly looking forward to doing such!

newspaper eat

Its a nice space and nicely done out but we sat near the open kitchen upstairs and didnt find it very relaxing ,because of the Kitchen staff shouting the orders out.

Decent Dog, good local, nice vibe

Great atmosphere and pub layout however terrible Yorkshire pudding that came with bad service

Decent pub… decent Guinness… great schnitty… nice staff!

Used to be great until new ownership..7 dollar happy hour beer on tap price ..big deal ..30 dollar sunday roast ..very below average food ..staff are great though

Quality bar, really great beer selection. Only issue is the lack of Kilkenny glasses. Please get more!! You’re the only bar in the area that has it on tap and just doesn’t taste the same unless it’s the proper glass 🥲

Everything was awesome! Best pub feed I've had in a long time, lovely staff will definitely be back!

Really love the Sunday Roast! Great staff and atmosphere!

Always a good place to be ..

Great lunch with family members

Great pub, food was delicious. Just a bit loud, the kind staff did help by turning the music down, thank you! (I’m probably entering my old person era). Fun atmosphere though!

Lovely staff, the main bar had that old pubby, nostalgic cigarette smell, the food hit the spot and was relatively inexpensive. A job well done for a pub.

Great food, good beer selection. Great to watch sports as well

We went at about 17:30 on a Sunday for a roast but we were too late and it was sold out 😞 The steak and chicken parmi were both really tasty though so we'll be back (hopefully early enough for the roast next time)

Sunday funday - this places was going off with a dj. Ladies night out, great food - nachos was superb, also the salads are decent. Big serves. Good booth tables, easy to get a table and I like the fitout design, upstairs and downstairs. The drinks are not cheap but that's kind of the eastern suburbs prices these days - alcohol ginger beer can $15.5

The DOG (Duke of Gloucester) is now another Merivale establishment. You would not think so. Prices are reasonable for drinks and food. (especially the daily specials) A pint of beautiful Kilkenny (really clean) $11.00 Absolute steal. The staff were great, behind the bar and food servers. The Merivale “house” Shiraz was very drinkable @ $48.00 Food was okay. The DOG beef tartar $22 was excellent. The accompanying crispy wonton skins were average. The oil used for wontons tasted a bit “old” Pan roasted King Salmon with mash and broccolini $31. Nothing exciting. Not bad, Not great. The Broccolini that came with the fish also tasted like the oil was past its use by date. Rotisserie Chicken, same story as the salmon. $29 for a half. Good but no “wow” factor. I know cooking oil prices have risen, but refried oil is not on. The renovated space, Beautiful Kilkenny, House shiraz, the huge range of beers on tap, plus the staff made it a pleasant environment.

Shame about the Dog in recent months. Their food prices have gone up in step with a marked decline in quality and portion size. Their fries taste refried" and drenched in oil. Seems like even JH isn't immune to the rising cost of living."

Strong 18-39 vibes

Big barn of a pub like they tend to be around here. Lots of lager and IPA on offer plus a traditional pub grub menu. Very busy with lots of sports on screens. Nice pub but not the place for an intimate dinner for two.

Gutted. The highlight of the Sunday Roast ended up being the roasted potatoes :( The beef itself was cold and soft, with an almost stew-like texture. The roast was served with a gluggy chicken gravy that had no flavor and a watery mashed pumpkin. I couldn't find any seasoning throughput, overall a super depressing Sunday Roast.

This is a place I 100% recommend for a gathering but the size of the steak I had wasn't big enough for what I paid for it

Decided to come here after spending time around The Rocks for St Patrick's Day. It was very busy but lucky enough to get a table for 10 of us. Food was very good, most had the Sunday Roast which looked very good and they said it was the best roast they've had outside....which is a very good accomplish. My husband and I got the fish and chips (I would never get a roast outside) my husband regretted his choice only because the roast was so good. Very good food 👌

Food great, quick serve, chips and slaw, mash and veg....why no chips and veg!!!???!! Apart from that, great

Great staff and awesone steak. Beer always cold too!!
