Have stayed here before and asked my travel agent to book this agin for me, made feel welcome by staff, food good, rooms clean and friendly helpful staff .

Here for two nights for the Don River Railway 50th Anniversary. Great location close to supermarket. Good food and drink menu. Can't fault too much about the place.

Cari (hope that’s spent correctly) and Darren and genuinely amazing, they were by themselves on a busy Wednesday night and made a person dining by themselves feel welcome. They are a credit to the company and deserve a massive shoutout. They deserve 5 stars alone

Provides value for money. Centrally located and the house keeping team is fantastic at what they do.

Large room that was spotlessly clean and very quiet. Staff were very helpful and service was second to none. Will definitely stay again

It's our second time in Devonport and we came straight away to this lovely Café. We order Steak 'n' eggs with some sides and it was absolutely delicious! Fresh orange juice and coffe is perfect. Highly recommended fellas.

Room was ok if a bit strange. Breakfast was disappointing. EV charging is available for a fee.

Excellent hotel and bistro in downtown Devonport.

Great location

Friendly staff and great service. Reasonable priced meals.

Rooms were clean and tidy with small fridge and iron.Location was perfect and close walking distance to coles/woolies and restaurants, however there is a restaurant at the motel.Bed was really comfy

Hotel location is near the CBD with parking lot and reception available 24/7 .Good to stay and happy to book in again next time 😄

Having missed the spirit of tasmania, we booked into the gateway hotel. Upon arrival, we had been riding our motorbike in the rain for hours to get to the boat. We were cold, wet and very miserable. We encountered Seb behind the counter. He was absolutely wonderful. Seb upgraded us to a room with a spa so we could thaw out and made our checkout 4pm the next day...all free of charge. We ordered dinner from room service which was so well priced and delicious. In the morning we ordered room service for breakfast. Again only took 15 minutes, great value for money and delicious. The lady at reception this morning was also fantastic....we could not fault one thing about our stay at gateway

Absolutely great value, we stayed here the night we arrived in Tasmania and also the night before we left. On the return trip we upgraded to the honeymoon suite which had a big spa bath, magnificent views, a very comfy be. Call direct and you’ll get a good discount. Also while you’re there have dinner at Molly Maloneys Irish pub, 2 minutes walk, the best pint of Guinness I had in Tasmania.

Stayed at this hotel for one night and the service was brilliant. I haven't come across that in a very long time. Everyone was friendly, kind and helpful, 10 out of 10.

Stayed a few nights here, as a base for Cradle Mountain which was a 1h15m drive. Conveniently located to supermarkets and restaurants. Room was clean, bed comfy and bathroom was good. Carpark was a bonus. Would stay here again!

Excellent service, at an incredibly convenient location

Very pleasant stay at the Gateway Hotel. Service was professional, the room was clean and comfortable. We did not try the restaurant but will be sure to the next time.

We had to evacuate from our accommodation last week due to a power failure from storm damage. The proprietors organised the Gateway Hotel for us to go to. We had to phone and organise ourselves prior to arrival. Somewhat stressful as we had yet to collect our possessions in the dark from previous place. Upon arrival, staff were pleasant and had many ppl like ourselves to organise last minute accommodation. We had to enter via the back carpark due to main entrance being closed because of the weather. First impressions weren't the best because of the state of the building and dirty carpet in the hallways. This was the ground floor where our rooms were. Bar staff were great and we enjoyed the free drinks provided. We moved into the Pokie area as the main bar was closing. What a difference. Didn't feel comfortable here with some undesirables hanging about. Retiring to our rooms, we were happy with the cleanliness and comfort. Although somewhat dated, nothing to complain about here. Unfortunately one of the rooms was at the end of the hallway below the kitchen above and air-conditioning or extraction for kitchen directly under the window. Very little sleep was had! It didn't help when both parties were disturbed by slamming doors, ppl running and yelling in corridor at around 1am. We were told there was No security in the building, therefore assume it must've been the police as 2way radio's could be heard. Room service breakfast was delivered to 1 room with an out of date yoghurt. Not a good experience unfortunately. Upon receiving our feedback when checking out, Reception asked us to please give them another try. Due to not feeling secure and exhausted from lack of sleep, we won't be back.

Very convenient location. Comfortable well-appointed rooms. Restaurant and bar. Have been here before, likely to return on future visits.

We arrived stressed, tired and hungry -at Gateway Hotel by Nightcap Plus - after a late arriving Spirit of Tasmania Geelong to Devonport crossing. Regular meal service had ceased operation by the time of our arrival. Courteous, competent and stress lowering service was provided by Night Manager/ Supervisor Naomi. She went above and beyond even preparing a beaut toasted ham and cheese sandwich at a late hour. ps slept away the neck knots and travel stress on a quality mattress

Had lunch ,very enjoyable

I have been staying here at this hotel since it was only 3 stories. Back in the early 2000's I stayed here every 4 weeks and the service was amazing [Thanks Tally] - I was even greeted with fresh damper rolls when I arrived. Over the years I changed roles, and have ended up with the need to travel the state again and call The Gateway home on a fairly regular basis. Let's be real. This is not a five star hotel, but the staff here are absolutely five star. Everyone cares, I mean.... they REALLY care. If something is not perfect, just chat with them and be super friendly. I know you might be tired from travelling, but remember that these guys are all wonderful people and they want you to have a great experience. Tonight I arrived after a super long day of early travel, then a massive day of work, only to discover that silly me stuffed up my booking. My mistake!! Was it too much trouble? No way!! I was looked after, upgraded, and taken way too good care of all the while with a line of people behind me waiting to be booked in. I am loyal to this hotel, not because the hotel is perfect, but because the staff really, really care. That matters.

We went for seniors lunch.oh my gosh it was delicious.i had lamb rissoles and vegetables which were cooked perfect.my husband had Switzer and chips and salad.our friend had fish and chips.salad.followed by Queen pudding.money well spent indeed. You must check it out.you won't be disappointed.

Lovely people work here. Particularly in the restaurant. Rooms are outdated. For a bit extra you can stay at the Novotel.

Good location and good parking In house dining touch and go Bed too soft and tv average and rooms not insulated as the person next room had tv loud and you can hear it Level 1 no lights in ceiling so go figure

Naomi was excellent waiter and very pleasant and service was fantastic

2019: It's very nice, but I wish they'd re-stock the mini bar every day. The restaurant is too fancy to take kids. it would be better if they had a more relaxed family style restaurant. ..... 2024: The previous was 5 years ago. They don't have a stocked mini bar at all now it seems, which was a little annoying when arriving after 9pm with the bar down stairs closed. Still, I'll always stay there, because the staff are so friendly and accommodating, and the beds are so comfortable and freee parking, unlike that other place down the road.

Lunchtime meals for seniors great value for money and very tasty and well presented

Room was good got a free drink for booking direct. Had dinner at the restaurant. Service took over an hour. Given my server asked if I'd recieved my meal yet pretty certain I would've been waiting longer if the server didn't check in. Meal was good once it was received.

Although we didn't stay at the hotel, we decided to have dinner at the bistro, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The customer service was great from start to finish, making us feel welcome and valued throughout our meal. The menu offered a very good options, and we were happy with our choices. I ordered the chicken with prosciutto, mashed potatoes, and veggies, while my partner had the steak with chips and salad. Both dishes exceeded our expectations :) We also had the sticky date pudding, which was amazing!! We highly recommend this bistro.

We didn’t stay at the hotel. We had dinner at the bistro. Greeted and served by Olivia. She was fantastic! Food was delicious. Pork Ribs and Chicken Parma highly recommended!

We had no complaints about our one-night stay at this hotel. Our room clean and spacious (incl bathroom), comfy queen-size bed, excellent wifi and little extraneous noise - which we were worried about with a view of the port out of our window. The CBD is just a short stroll away. Dining room also pleasant (and busy) with a good range of dinner options, and readonably priced

Very Nice.

Great location in Devonport. Ample parking. Close to ferry terminal and all shopping.

Beware of hidden costs in billing. We had the booking under promotion for bed and breakfast at $209 and was confirmed at the check in that breakfast included. But at the check out they charged $287 saying that breakfast not included in ours. The lady at the reception spoked in abusive manner and it was a discriminative approach. Her logic was that we had too much at the breakfast hence had to charge extra $78. Specially if your culture is different you may get treated different at Night Cap.

Always great clean rooms and the service is excellent , but could put keno and sport back in the rooms especially the guests who have paid good money for the room and for good facilities.

Good hotel, good staff. Very nice.

Staff were great, room was spacious and clean. Quick drive to everything I needed. Comfortable bed, good air con, good working space for people looking to work and a 24/7 customer desk.

Sherri on the front desk was warm and welcoming, and Jen in the bistro was great too, but unfortunately the room and overall hotel was very underwhelming. The mattress was so soft and in desperate need of replacing, while the rooms small and claustrophobic. The room was also very noisy with street noise, druggies shouting, neighbours bathroom noise and some sort of tradie hammering (most mornings from 6:30am). It has the overall feel of a sad ALH hotel funnelling money in from the pokie room without reinvesting back into the hotel itself.

The room was fantastic, clean, excellent position. The Buffett breakfast was the worst or one of that I have ever had.

The rooms here are perfect. The bed is comfy the spa is great. Everything is electric like blinds, windows and curtain. I have eaten in the Restaurant a few times it seems like the food is very hit and miss. I had the salmon the other day was extremely oily. The sauce was like it was off the tartare sauce. Squid was nice. For the food i would say 3 stars. Room for improvement. The staff are on the counter are welcoming friendly and polite :-)

There is not a lot of choice when looking for a place to stay in Devonport - so our key criteria was being within walking distance of the town centre and having free on-site car parking. ||First impressions of the hotel when we walked in was that it was very dated and in need of a major renovation - there were obviously some areas which had been refurbished such as the front reception but most of the areas need a significant overhaul. ||Our room was downstairs on the ground floor and walking down the stairs it felt like we were going down to the basement - the carpets needed replacement and the walls repainting. The room itself, a family room was very spacious for just two people - had plenty of storage space, decent work desk, large key sized bed, decent working a/c, though the Wi-Fi was slow with limited bandwidth. Even though the decor in the room was tired and worn, the bathroom had been refurbished the bed was relatively new (nice plush mattress and clean bed linen). The room overlooked the rear car parking area, which meant I could keep a check on the car, not that I was expecting a view given the relatively cheap room rate ($110/night as opposed to $176/night). The room however was relatively dark, with only a single window. We took advantage of the QR code room service for our breakfast option, due to its connivence - the food was alright (not amazing) and on occasions was cold/warm rather than hot. The timing of housekeeping was a bit erratic, as sometimes when we arrived back after lunch it still hadn't been done and other times it was done as soon as we left in the morning. Resupplies to the room by housekeeping was also inconsistent, sometimes we had hand towels and bathmats replaced other times we were left without. Same with tissues and water bottles. ||The rear car parking area had CCTV cameras, so I was comfortable with the surveillance/security however if you got back later in the evening there wasn't a lot of vacant bays, and we were there when the hotel was relatively quiet - I could imagine parking would be at a premium when it is busy. You do get a fair bit of noise in the morning from the trucks offloading liquor to the bottle shop (reversing beepers/crashing of bottles etc)||The laundry and the gym area were really hammered and had obviously see better days - though the gym did have clean towels and fresh water bottles, when I could access it. There is only one washing machine and one clothes dryer - so you need to closely watch when other people's loads finish as otherwise you could be up half the night doing your laundry.||In summary don't hold any high expectations about the Gateway Hotel, it is what it describes itself as - a centrally located 3 star hotel.

Fantastic and friendly service from all the staff. Room was nice and clean.

Great room, comfy beds. Spotless . Close to ferry service.

Thank you Sheri for your most welcoming greetings and professionalism You made my life a little brighter and lighter by organising everything I needed. Dinner staff were excellent and the chef too as they all catered to what I requested with a smile. The room was lovely and clean and housekeeping had my extra milk at ready the only negative would be the odd location where the flush for the toilet is located and the wet floor is still very slippery Thank you all

Clean and good location. Great service.

Reception on check-in the lady was the rudest person I’ve ever had to deal with had no time for me to busy on her phone didn’t even welcome my on arrival won’t stay again but my room was nice, neat and clean just need to t dry o something with the staff on reception she had long brown hair it wasn’t even pulled back

Great accommodation at a reasonable price. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

December 31, 2023 I've been here a few times over the years and my most recent visit was for New Year's Eve dinner with family. My meal was very delicious - pork belly with creamy mash, apple, asparagus and tomatoes with a jus. For entree I shared pulled pork bao buns with my partner, again very delicious. I asked for cider and a lovely local one was suggested for me by staff. A great night out. All 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks.

Service and location is great. Room was also great but the technology was difficult to work out (automated blinds, curtains, air-conditioning and light switches) didn't always work.

From checkin where the lady at reception was extremely helpful to the room which was clean and well appointed to buffet dinner which was pretty good as well. As oak overnight guest got a complimentary drink and reduced cost at the buffet. All in all a enjoyable stay ps won on the pokies too Thanks 😊

We stayed overnight before a day sail on the Spirit of Tasmania. Hotel is conveniently located with reasonable family rooms and close proximity to varios shops and restaurants.

Very nice . The food is worth more than the price paid, very suitable for the long holiday . 🎉Happy New Year .2024🙌

We checked in on Christmas afternoon, having arrived into Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania that morning. Sherri at reception was very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient for eating and shopping options as well as its proximity to the Wharf and walk along it to the Bluff.

Lovely place & Wonderful staff that were kind and professional! Wished I stayed longer.

Comfortable and in the centre of town. Parking is tight and your car may end up being parked on the street so must be moved by 8am. Good selection of food if dining in.

Great staff checking inn was a easy. . Clean and comfortable. Beautiful food and just a lovely place to stay.

Enjoyed our stay. Meals were excellent. Will certainly stay again.

Great venue and hostel

My recent stay at the Gateway Devonport was certainly one to write about. I booked in at the last minute after a day trip for work turned into an overnight. I usually stay at another hotel in the area but was wanting to try somewhere new. I stayed in one of the spa rooms which is well worth the small extra cost. The bed was the best hotel bed I have come across in years and I enjoyed my stay so much I decided to stay another night. The room service was quick and the food was excellent quality. The extra features of the room (QR code room service, automatic blinds and curtains, spa bath, Smart TV etc) just added to my wonderful stay. I would like to make an extra special mention to Sherri at reception who checked me in on my first night and was so lovely to chat too. I also came across Sherri on my second night and she remembered me by name and again was so pleasant, it really elevated my stay. Thank you so much Sherri - your customer service skills and warm nature really made me feel at home at the Gateway. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Devonport area and would definitely consider it a pick above the rest.

Basic and over priced

Decent place to stay for a single night business trip, not recommended for longer stays. AC was unresponsive in my room, turned on, but no air came out. I could not turn off the bathroom fan and the door got jammed when I tried to close it. Bed was comfortable and service was great.

Treated myself for the last night of my holiday and paid almost double what I normally would for a room, room was ok - had the full heat of the sun being a corner room, took a bit for the a/c to quick in. But I could hear absolutely every noise, the guy sneezing next door, the people in the halls, traffic lights, the opening and closing of curtains/blinds in rooms around mine, people on the street and the cars turning in on the metal grate in the hotel parking (all night long) I’m a heavy sleeper but I got next to no sleep here. Not at fault of the hotel but there was also a public breakup and screaming match at 4:30am… perhaps some sound proofing and double glazing wouldn’t go astray..

Lift was out of order on my floor. Had to use stairs with disability. Staff 'helped by putting a sign on the lift."

Fantastic meals at great prices and the staff were fantastic, friendly, and helpful. Thank you very much for your help and patience with our day centre group 😀
