Excellent Hotel and great parking and Location.

Had a lovely family gathering at The Central recently & as always, the food was fantastic & the service was great for being a busy establishment.

We always stay at this hotel every year and love it. Family friendly, rooms clean and tidy and staff very friendly

Lovely rooms, staff are wonderful but the noise can be an issue if needing to sleep early and as expected very loud on weekends but this is too be expected.

I am covered in bites. I think they are bed bugs after last nights stay

I usually write positive reviews to help other travelers find the right places to go but I want to share my personal experience with this place in Devonport as part of my Tasmania backpacking trip that thought could be also helpful. In my opinion this location may not be the best fit for solo travelers or backpackers based on my short stay. When booked online didn’t realize the accommodation was located above a pub and gaming facilities. At night the noise from outside room which seemed like coming from drunk residents made it feel unsafe for me personally to relax or leave room to access communal spaces like kitchen. Additionally I found that my personal belongings had been removed and discarded in the rubbish area while I was out for a long day trip even though my booking extension had been confirmed twice- once prior to leaving and once being contacted in what I perceived as an odd contact by a staff member later on in the evening. Following this I also experienced what I perceived as hostile behavior from a staff member which came across as physical and verbal aggression. This left me feeling very unsafe deciding to leave the place earlier than check out date late at night. While driving away I was stalked and followed by a stranger car for a long period that no words can describe how terrifying was that to me. As a young female solo traveler this experience was extremely distressing for me. It led to unexpected expenses as I had to find safer alternative accommodation and arrange extra transport. Worse still I felt genuinely unsafe and endured some very uncomfortable moments during in my life. I hope this information helps other travelers make an informed decision based on their own preferences and needs.

Our last stay in Tasmania and from a great location it really was near seaport. Can be noisy though as expected. Room is fit for our small family. My son left his echidna toy before we depart (it was his souvenir of the place TAS). But we had a good rest and convenient to our ferry schedule.

We booked a table for an evening meal here, we mentioned in our booking that there was an infant with us and there was a highchair ready at our table which was great. The food was delicious, the only gripe I'd say was that it was not all brought out at the same time but it was all fresh, hot and delicious.

Great close location to the Spirit of Tasmania. Nice, clean dorm rooms. Reception stayed open later for our arrival time. Excellent price at $38 per night. Clean communal bathroom and big kitchen and common area. Other residents were pigs and left all their rubbish in the common area.

Superb location! The Spirit of Tasmania I & II harbour is across the river. The malls and bus terminal are nearby. The room is spacious with kitchenette. Electric kettle and toaster are available. Iron, ironing board and extra blanket are in the wardrobe.

Formby Hotel provides a decent stay with a convenient location. However, it would be nice if they offered a buffet-style breakfast. The rooms could also be a bit cleaner with a fresher scent. Additionally, there were no staff present during my stay, which was a bit inconvenient. Good spot for a drink

Room was cheap and fabulous. Staff were wonderful. The food was great. Definitely go back and recommend to family and friends.

Have stayed there on numerous occasions previously and had nice rooms. This time paid $140 for room 17A, which is substandard for the price. Will be well down on my list next time I stay in Devonport

The location is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. The room is tiny but okay for short stay. The highlight is they provide hair dryer cuz not every backpacker would do. Overall, I would recommend for others who is travelling and looking for cheap stay.

Wow, great food and menu. I would not finish my Parmi while the scallops wife had were cooked perfectly.

I love eating at the Formby hotel. Best food and dishes. I know people always enjoy staying here too, and often it's the most reasonably priced hotel in Devonport. But food wise I can vouch for The Formby!

As a stay over . Hostel type of place room I saying is was too small. Bunk bed. Couldn't breath.

My wife and I were heading to Devonport and needed something on short notice. Fortunately this did the trick. The bed was comfortable and the facilities were very much appreciated. And whilst the room was located above a bar, the noise was never an issue. Also of note is the location which was close to the CBD and provide a front row seat to see the colossal ferries come in. Very nice place indeed!

Went there for dinner. Great night, food good service good prices good, what's not to like.

Simple et abordable, bien placé, equipe accueillante, possibilité de rajouter des invités dans la chambre de 2. Seul problème, il y a un bar sous les chambres donc selon la soirée, peut être bruyant.

The hotel was adjacent to the spirit of tasmania, which was convenient on arrival... check-in was quick... room was comfortable.. amenities clean but not enough room to park car in Hotel carpark on arrival... waited till patrons left to get a closer spot to Hotel... food was enjoyable..

We didn't stay in the hotel. Only had dinner.

When there for a good meal

Hard to find in dark, service good room very clean, fridge, toaster, kettle etc well equipped.

Great food, the only problem we had was that the order was not totally correct. I know they were busy, but getting the customers order correct should be up there on the priorities list as well as good service

A warm welcome from the staff, efficient ordering and service. We had bacon wrapped scallops (shared entree) and the lamb rump and beef cheeks for mains. The food was well presented, good sized portions and arrived hot and tasty. Kudos to the staff, who checked in on us to make sure we were happy, several times during the night

Spacious family room, nice view looking at the Spirit of Tasmania in action. We received help with late check in which was much appreciated. Clean, quiet and affordable.

Great location right near the harbor and close to the arrival area for spirit of Tasmania. However the room smelt like an old library book and they are attached to a bar so lots of loud music and patrons going until about 11pm.

we ate at the restaurant a few times in the past and always enjoyed our food there but this time we were most disappointed. the fish roulades were dry and unappealing, the lamb salad was greasy and the other meals were sub par. Was it the chef's night out? the Restautant surroundings are inviting and it is well positioned in town where you can see the ferry come and go, staff are nice and helpful. not the best dinner experience this time

A good location across Devonport Ferry terminal, with a view of the Spirit of Tasmanià. Suitable for backpackers. Complete with Aminities. Friendly receptionist. Ample parking.

Nice comfortable room and friendly staff. Meals expensive, for someone on a pension, but, nice. Restaurant staff are friendly and efficient.

excellent accommodation- the room was clean, good attention to detail - the hotel is professionally run - the bistro is excellent with great menu selection - will definitely be back. The quality of the food is also excellent, great location for Devonport and the spirit of Tasmania and the cost is very reasonable - couldn’t recommend it highly enough

Loved this place. Clean, comfortable rooms & washrooms, basic amenities like tea / coffee maker (even a toaster), VFM pricing, room with a view towards the SoT berthing pier, a great reasonably priced restaurant (Central) on the ground floor, and free parking - what more does one want?

I had a very enjoyable stay at the Formby Hotel in Devonport. The staff were welcoming and friendly and happy to help with things like carrying my luggage up the stairs. The room was light, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the en suite was bright and lovely with plenty of hot water. The room had a great view of the river and the Spirit of Tasmania. Downstairs there is a nice restaurant and Pokies venue and the hotel is close to shops and not far by car to supermarkets. There was off street parking in the yard behind the hotel next to a bottle shop. I highly recommend the Formby Hotel and look forward to staying there again.

Ok, service if you don't mind going to the bar & asking for everything including water.

Shower was good, bed was comfortable. Old hotel with stairs and no lift. Heater did not work and wifi was weak. Parking was free but limited spots.

Gave it a 5 star based on the excellent Camembert Cheese pizza.

I have given 5 stars because of the girls they were Awesome good to deal with polite helpful and always happy. As for the room Bed was hard uncomfortable 😅 shower pressure was dreadful even worse when someone else turned the water on. no pressure. Room was spotless except for Pubic hairs in bath and were soap holder was.. Your meals are Amazing good size well presented. 😉 Not 100% sure I stay again shame about bed & Shower. To the ladies that served me and checked me in great asset to Formby Hotel Business. Thanks for making it a pleasant stay Deano

Room clean and tidy, linen fresh, comfortable bed. Had pork belly meal delivered hot from the hotel kitchen, delicious. The woman checking us in was very friendly and accomodating.

The rooms were old but clean and tidy. Bathroom was good and the shower strong. The meals downstairs were first class. Prefer more secure parking but a very nice place to stay.

This is a loverly place to have lunch looking out over the water , the parma and veg was delicious and everything was hot wen it came out

We walked in and they fitted us in. We enjoyed our last evening in Tasmania with really tasty food and great wine with fast friendly service. I had fantastic tasting Salmon which they cooked to my preference. My wife had yummy sliders. Both matched with Tasmania wines.|Well done to everyone involved.

We called in aftè our trip from Australian main land as one of the locals in Tassie called us.

Cheap and good location. Get to the Rec Room for a great pic of the spirit of tassie when she's coming or going. Has Great and instant hot water in the shower which is a big bonus on a cold tassie day

I didn’t have high expectations as it was a last minute booking. Turns out this place is great! We are at the restaurant below which was amazing. Selection and quality of food was great. The room was very comfortable. The shower was the best Hotel shower I have ever had. The beds were comfortable with an assortment of pillows. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely, the folks that run this place are truly friendly, anything we've asked has been answered with real feeling. Food is delicious, nice selection of wines in fact all beverages are covered. The room is clean with a nice shower bath. We arrived late on the Spirit, but no problems room warmed up. We decided to stay an extra day because of this.

Atmosphere and food the best we are never disappointed
