Advertised as a boutique hotel but really just a motel. The rooms are dated and basic and need a reno. The beds were hard for us but probably OK if you're younger. House cleaning staff were excellent. Rooms are clean and plenty of fresh towels. The breakfast was good with fresh fruit cerial toast and full cooked breakfast in generous portions. Restaurant staff were good keeping the buffet well stocked. Overall reasonably priced and in a good location for walking into town.

Met the Owner on Sunday who was serving breakfast in front dining room who was the most customer focused person we encountered during our short trip to Tasmania. He was a delight where he explained the plans he had to make Balmoral an even better place to stay..

We had a great experience here. The guy who checked us in at night plus the guy doing breakfast were both very friendly! The room was nice (it's clearly an old building but the room felt fresh) and the bed was comfy. We got the cooked breakfast the next day as apparently if you book direct that's included so that was nice to find out :) The breakfast food was very nice and my husband said the coffee was excellent. It was close to shops and restaurants as well.

The Balmoral on York was a very lovely, friendly clean place to stay. Great location. Super breakfast. Perfect hospitality. Highly Recommend.

We spent the past 3 nights at the Balmoral on York. It’s a great hotel that is well located, with free off street parking. The rooms are spacious and very clean, although old. The continental breakfast was very good with a large assortment of fresh fruits, also yogurt, toast and tea and coffee. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, giving us some great restaurant tips. Favourite places that we ate at: Rupert and Hound - great seafood The Royal Oak Hotel - great Chicken Parmi and atmosphere Saint John Craft Beer Bar - great food!

In a nutshell just brilliant. Danielle, Abby, James & owner Tim make you feel very comfortable along with the helpful housemaid staff. Great location, rooms spacious, lovely bed, quiet, instant hot water ( rare) In a really clean premises. Plenty of safe off - street parking, a lift to all floors made light of any heavy luggage... Just a top place away from Home. Will always return. Oh, almost forgot ...... a cooked & continental breakfast to die for !!!.

I honestly can't put in words the effort Dannielle put into getting my refund as I had to cancel due to medical reasons. I gave up but she didn't as it was a third party I did the reservation from. I will absolutely stay when I'm fit and in full recovery. Amazing help from her and she contacted me on a regular basis to help. Just brilliant she deserves a pay rise. Thank you so much Dannielle

Great location, rooms were great, lovely towels, great bedding, comfortable bed. Despite the air conditioning not working the additional heater made the room lovely and warm. Continental breakfast was good. The omelette was excellent. Would recommend a stay here.

Excellent location, restaurants near by and central. Staff very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Room clean and the bed comfortable. We had breakfast down stairs and it consisted of a hot breakfast as well as the continental breakfast. just what we needed in the morning. Highly recommend. Will stay again.

Right in town and the rooms and service are great. Very tidy and the room is a good size. Not pretentious as very 80's decor but i think that adds to its character

Fridge in 1st floor room did not work, at max contents stayed room temp. Cleaner explained I had small heater so main heating didn’t “need to work”. Nasty to shower under black ceiling mould - a job too much for the room cleaner. Needs professional de-moulding.

From the time we booked in to the time we booked out we couldn't fault Balmoral on York. Great location. Rooms were very clean and the bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was nice. We didn't upgrade to the cooked breakfast as we found the basic breakfast more than enough with the options of cereal, toast, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Staff were very friendly and James was very informative when we first checked in. Would highly recommend Balmoral on York

Spent a few days here, building is quite dated, but the rooms were quiet and extremely clean and bed so comfortable. It was close proximity (walking distance to city center). We didnt go for the full cooked brekky, but it was nice to have fruit, cereal, toast and tea/coffee included (bonus). A big thank you to Danielle at front office who was a wealth of information and extremely friendly and helpful at all times, a real asset to Balmoral. Would def stay here again.

Located in York st, staff friendly and helpful, rooms spotless, rates very competitive, bed excellent, heaps of TV channels including foxtel and Netflix, parking at rear, we had fully cooked breakfast included in stay which was 10/10 Would highly recommend and stay again

Breakfast in the dining room beautiful. Omelettes excellent, didn't stay long enough to try all cooked options. All staff very helpful, informative and friendly. Although new owner quite abrupt. Will definitely stay again and highly recommend.

I spent a lot of time researching accommodation prior to booking anywhere in Launceston and ultimately chose Balmoral for location and cost. Day 2 of my 4 night stay, it became apparent that there were repair works going on in the building. The sounds of the repairs were consistent and included drilling and banging happening all day everyday and before 9am on Sunday morning. Due to the continuous banging and drilling, I called reception and was given a 'sorry' but nothing further. I spent $563 for 4 nights in a hotel I had to actively avoid spending the day times in due to the sounds of the repairs being done. I emailed in the hope of being offered some sort of compensation but their only response was to send a generic apology. I even Included a video I took from my room to prove how loud it was. The business should have disclosed the ongoing works or offered a discounted rate for people who unknowingly booked and then had to endure the repair sounds. Would not recommend.

I recently stayed at this hotel and found its location to be excellent, making it convenient for exploring the area. However, there were several issues during my stay. There was no hot water in my room, and the staff, although polite, were unable to resolve the problem and simply told us to wait. Additionally, the room did not match the photos online; it was noticeably older and less well-maintained. Overall, while the location is great, the lack of hot water and the discrepancy between the advertised and actual room condition were disappointing.

Clean. Nice fresh crisp linen. Comfortable bed. Very friendly staff. Great continental and cooked breakfast. Very convenient to the city centre and many restaurants. Convenient onsite parking. We will definitely stay again. Better if you book direct.

My husband and I spent 1 night in the wheel chair friendly room, lovely room, unfortunately it was noisy and the curtains didn’t block out the bright lights. Staff were very accommodating.

A very decent hotel option in the heart of Launceston. Although the hotel is a bit older, it is very well maintained, clean and comfortable. Top notch service on the front desk by staff who are very accomodating. Continental breakfast in the morning is probably the best iv ever seen in a hotel. Hotel location is very confinement for walking around the CBD

I am so blown away by the outstanding service and value for money this hotel is. It started when I booked, there was a delay in transferring money to my account and even though I suppose to pay it within 24 hours they agreed without hesitation to extend it which was literally the day before I was going to arrive, when I checked in (late) the young lady on Friday night quickly evaluated I hadn't Stayed there before, she read me and my mood perfectly and understood completely I was dead tired, so she gave me just the information I needed to know, there was no upselling, she didn't give me all the boring details that I didn't need to know right then, it literally took a couple minutes, I could have hugged her I was so appreciative, she was super professional and really polite, my late check-in due to Jetstar delays wasn't even mentioned or a problem at all, the room was really large and impeccably clean, it's the best value for money hotel I've ever stayed in, the next day the two new staff were bright bubbly and very accommodating when I asked would I be able to bring my complementary breakfast back to my room and have it later she agreed without hesitation knowing I was late to pick up my kids, they were also super accommodating by allowing me to have my kids who live in Launceston, up in my room to watch a football game and receive their birthday gifts, not once have they ever made me feel like a bother, you can tell the staff must have good management and enjoy their jobs because you can tell it isn't just a job to them, they genuinely want your stay to be comfortable and hassle free, I'm not going to be staying in any airbnbs again, or 4 or 5 star hotels that don't even come close to the Balmoral, I don't care what cheap offers I get from anywhere else I will be booking at the Balmoral, up to six times a year from now on, the parking is great, the facilities are great, the bed is so comfortable with really luxury linen, even though it's next to a road the rooms are very insulated and it's quiet, the views are amazing and you're right in the heart of the CBD. But the best part is the super happy accommodating professional yet very friendly staff the rest is just a bonus ! I still can't believe it's this cheap !

Enjoyed our stay, particularly the breakfast. Our first floor room had a lovely little balcony. Rooms somewhat dated but clean and new owner Tim has a refurbishment plan which will spruce things up. Good value and extremely helpful staff. James on the front desk and owner Tim is a font of knowledge and keen advocate for the area and Tasmania in general. Look forward to staying again.

Clean and tidy room, didn't get a chance to eat breakfast as the hospital moved my wife's appointment to 7am.

Couldn't fault our stay here. Staff very friendly and helpful and gave good recommendations for places to eat. They let us check in a bit earlier as the room was ready which was much appreciated after a long drive. Free parking in an on-site car park behind the hotel. Breakfast (included) is a self-serve buffet but everything was kept topped up so nothing ever ran out. You can pay for a full hot breakfast. I would recommend booking direct with the hotel as they run an offer where you can get the hot breakfast for free if you book direct (check if offer is available as we were there in off-season). The rooms are large and well-equipped. Great location, excellent price.

Our experience has been excellent from entry to check out. We stayed during the busiest time of the year (between Christmas and New Year). Tim and Tim's Team have made ourselves feel special going out of the way. A personal feeling was there all the times. We plan to visit Launceston again and our stay will be at Balmoral at York with excellent location and excellent breakfast so close to town.

An older style, quirky hotel with spacious rooms and good parking. Very friendly service from reception and helpful tips. We arrived early and were able to checkin which was just fantastic.||The bed was very comfortable and the separate shower was fantastic with fluffy towels.||The walls are thin though so noise does carry.||The Continental breakfast was lovely and we sat outside on the terrace.

Great property to use as a base while in Launceston...easily walkable to plenty of eatery options and close to many of the towns must-see locations.|The rooms were spacious, fairly modern and well equipped. It is an older property, so the public areas are not overly fancy but the rooms definitely have all you need! The reception staff we encountered were all professional and extremely helpful with both directions and suggestions for sightseeing.|Parking is free at the rear of the building but it can be quite busy, so we found it easier to just walk to dinner than hope to grab a space late at night.

Plenty of space and a nice city outlook. Welcoming staff. No flashy lobby but all the important things are done well. Easy walking distance to city area and parks. Nearby restaurants at Yorktown Square. Book direct and get a breakfast upgrade (yummy). Recommended!

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Balmoral on York. This hotel was very clean, comfortable beds, fantastic central location, nice views over the city and onsite parking. Booking direct through the hotel included a complimentary cooked breakfast, which also included cereals, toast, fruits, juices and yogurt. The breakfast was a highlight. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with great tips locally and along our travels. We would highly recommend :-)

This is a gem, only a few mins walk to shops, eats etc. I loved the enthusiasm of the staff member who greeted us, given a map of the best eats and good places to see, his recommendations were spot on! The room was clean, the shower hot and great pressure and the bed was comfy. Would happily stay there again.

Great hotel, great overnight. Tim the owner was so personable and helpful. Place is walking distance to gorge, parks, river, restaurants, pubs. The breakfast is huge, continental choices and just a small charge for fresh cooked eggs and sides. Will stay again!

Cosy accommodation on the edge of the cbd. Bed is comfortable and room a decent size Plenty of eateries a short walk away. On site parking and a lift.

We stayed 5 nights here and found it homely. Dwayne, Tim and their staff were great, nothing was any trouble and we were made to feel like part of the family. The rooms were bright roomy and bed comfortable. We had drinks in the Bar every evening. Trish and I wish you all the very best in your endeavour. My husband and I stayed at Balmoral on York a total of three nights on our honeymoon. The rooms were comfortable, the staff exceptionally friendly, and good location walkable to many food options and the CBD. We had free breakfast every morning, which was simple toast, fruit, and coffee - but was still very good. It was a simple hotel with large rooms and a beautiful view. Also free parking for our rental car. We’d happily stay here again next time we’re in Launceston!

Good place to stay in busy Launceston. Only complaint is lack of space for the toilet between vanity and wall.

Large comfortable rooms… the shower is the best I’ve had… continental breakfast included… hosts are helpful and friendly. A short stroll to shops & restaurants. Highly recommend

Pros: Old style hotel, clean room and friendly staff, convenient location in the centre of the city. Cons: the hotel is on a main street and the windows are old, so not recommended for light sleepers, the breakfast service is expensive.

The location of this place is great. Walking distance to the centre, yet quiet The rooms and style are a little art Deco, but so are most places in Launceston. The best part of our stay wad most likely the host who was extremely welcoming and helpful.

Absolutely wonderful service. Immaculately clean rooms with beautifully comfortable beds. Close distance to shops and an array of cafe's/restaurants. Delicious continental or cooked breakfast 🙂

Pretty happy with our choice of the Balmoral. Aside from comfortable rooms and decent facilities, the staff we encountered were exceptional. From the cheery check in lady, to the guy that gave us walks advise. The complimentary breakkie was fine and again the staff shone.

Trevor & his team were helpful & friendly. Our room was spacious & well appointed. The bed was very comfortable. Our balcony looked out over 2 beautifully restored buildings. There was plenty of off street parking & town centre a mere 5 mins walk away. Breakfast ( included in the tariff) was comprehensive - both hot & cold options.

First time at the Balmoral and it won't be the last. The building is older but it is clean and the rooms are spacious and I have a Lovely balcony overlooking Launceston. There is a microwave which is a very nice change and daily biscuits which I haven't seen in quite a while. Trevor and Sherryn are Very Welcoming and Warm.

What can I say, this hotel has everything and more! Great character building, central location, lovely city views, has spacious rooms, clean and hotel has lots of parking space. We stayed here for 3 nights and found it to be excellent value for money. Trevor and his team run a very professional establishment and it’s so nice to see good old fashioned service shining through. The rooms are very clean and comfortable as well as quiet. Free Netflix is a nice little bonus. It’s in a great location, close to cafes, bars and restaurants. There is a beautiful little park a short walk away as well. The option of a cooked breakfast if you book direct is very handy and the quality of the food is great. We wholly recommend Balmoral on York to anyone visiting Launceston.
