Food fantastic, ‘Jose the 🇵🇪 Peruvian’ is an excellent chef and the front of house and staff were brilliant

Had a great meal here when we first arrived in Launceston and returned at the end of our holiday. The food, service and staff were all so good. Highly recommend the corn ribs as a side dish to anything.. So delicious.

Came in hungry. Left hungry. And poorer for the effort

Went to boatyard last week for week for lunch and had a great food and service

Really good seafood and a great view.

So welcoming and attentive - the meal was delicious. Donna was extremely thoughtful bringing me a board so I could read my screen to work (bc I didn’t want to move from the sun) Will be back with my team x

Today I tried the Boat Yard. The food was lovely and the staff were kind and accommodating! the place was quiet and not too loud a little cold inside but that’s okay as it’s Tassie and weather changes rapidly (we came on a rainy day after a week of warm weather) there were no steps to get in which makes t easy for wheelchair access. there were a beautiful wide range of dishes with a believe the chef being Peruvian. the manager was new and had only been there 2 weeks and she was kind and friendly and ready to help. I had the beef croquettes that were crispy on the outside and filled with a beautiful silky potato and beef mixture (be careful the spicy mayo is spicy! 🥵) for my main I had the octopus the presentation was a little strange and unexpected but it was lovely and well balanced, one of the smaller portions on the menu but I added a side of their deliciously made corn ribs and it was perfect! for dessert I had the basque cheesecake which was made as a single serve portion, I do wish it had come with a cream or sauce but it was still delicious. I definitely will be returning and hopefully able to get the word out about it being gluten free. It’s a must visit! I do wish I had taken photos but we digged in too quick. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals and no one could fault any of it!

I went here 1 month ago after previously giving it a 5 start review. What has happened to the quality of the food? It went from being top notch to overpriced hospital food. I had fish which was just average but the seafood risotto was tasteless and oily, the steak too rare for a medium order as well as tough and the vegetables bland. The music was way too loud adding to a lower class feeling. The flies buzzing around inside made it embarrassing for my interstate guests. Not sure what is going on here but I will try again but if it falls flat, I won’t be back. Perhaps a new chef or reconsider your prices? You can’t have both.

Food was really not nice definitely wouldn't recommend

Thank you for the great food and hospitality today beautiful atmosphere with great food and super friendly staff. We will be back

Read the other reviews and don’t bother coming here. I debated bothering with writing this review as it seems the responses to other reviews are being generated by AI and the advice from other patrons falling on empty ears. I had high hopes for Boatyard when I went there - great spot and great set up. The service while friendly was extremely disorganised. It didn’t appear anyone had sections and I had 4 different wait staff over the course of my time there and it was clear there was minimal communication between the staff. It was also clear that some of the staff didn’t understand their menu which could be remedied with a bit of training. I am always happy to splash out a bit of extra money for some good food but it was the biggest let down. None of the seafood was fresh which was very obvious and also baffling to me considering how much amazing and fresh seafood Launceston has access to. None of the produce was fresh either which explained why the food lacked flavour. We’re in the peak of summer and there is an abundance of fresh, local produce around and this place opts for cheap, tasteless supermarket tomatoes? To charge the amount you do for cheap, tasteless ingredients is baffling to me. This place has so much potential if they appoint a decent chef and fork out the tiniest bit more for good produce, and trains the staff on the menu and organises the waitstaff. But currently, the food is bland and extremely disappointing, and not at all worth the cost.

Had the most amazing lunch. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. View was outstanding. Highly recommend the Boatyard. We will be back.

We tried several dishes to share, and unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming. Each dish felt basic and didn’t justify the high prices. The meat was chewy, and the paella was essentially a saucy risotto with a few prawns, scallops, and peas—lacking any real flavor apart from the chili spice. The calamari tasted like nothing more than breadcrumbs. The cocktails were decent, but they weren’t anything special, and there was a long wait between servings for each person. The service was lovely, but sadly, the food was a big disappointment. I’m sure you pride yourselves on your dishes, but it seems like you need a new chef who understands how to truly execute them. With a bit of work, these dishes could be amazing, but unfortunately, they fell flat. From browsing the reviews, it seems like many others share the same sentiments.

We started with a drink here before the Boatyard opened for the evening. The kind manager noticed us and warmly welcomed us in. This was followed by a delicious meal of seafood chowder and Seafood Paella.

The beautiful pink ling fish was over done. Accompanying salad was very disappointing. Wine ordinary and expensive. No spoon with pasta. Waitress didn't really have a clue.

Had the taco Tuesday with a margarita and it was amazing! Imogen who delivered my drink was great and very helpful for my fussy needs Would recommend

A real gem right on the river in Launceston. An imaginative menu, the paella was delicious! The drinks menu has good quality wines. Highly recommend this lovely place!

Unfortunately very disappointing and pricey experience. The chowder is very watery and the portion size of the seafood pasta is small for the price.

Great menu and lovely location. Food was superb as was the service from Charlize who looked after us.

Great restaurant on the river in Launceston.

Excellent seafood chowder ! Really good location in the Tamar

Was a great atmosphere and the octopus was really flavoursome! Had Jess as the waiter who was very attentive and friendly 👍

Cant wait to come back. It has been awhile between meals here but it did not disappointment. Great food, friendly service and a beautiful space. Highly recommend

I recently had my 40th birthday here and the team, especially Jess, went above and beyond to make the night special. The canapés, followed by our main meals were delicious and the beautiful views of the river by night was spectacular. I would highly recommend booking your next event here :)

Delicious paella and seafood chowder, great service, an overall pleasant experience.

Very poor food, service, management .... so disappointing!!!

Had the pleasure of dining here for dinner and would happily recommend it. The menu is not large but should suit all tastes and there is enough variety for us to consider eating there again. The option of small and large plates was appreciated. The food tasted fresh and I can highly recommend the Peruvian paella. If you are a fan of cheesecake you will love their Passionfruit Basque version. We were fortunate to be sitting on the deck which in the late evening provided a lovely view of the river and sunset.

I was very fortunate to be invited to the Boatyard for a dinner to celebrate New Years Eve and say farewell to 2024! We had a late booking in readiness for prime window view of the fireworks which were brilliantly done on both slots. Our menu for the night was a set menu, with a choice of Entre, Main and Dessert. We all received a glass of bubbles on arrival. Our table of 4 had various choices for entre and main, all of which had many awesome comments exclaimed. Without any dialogue it was found we all chose the same dessert, raspberry semifreddo and I have to say, while the entire meal to this point was delicious, this dessert was for me, the highlight of the meal. We all enjoyed choosing various wines across the evening from a multi level wine listing, with the red below a great choice! A fabulous night with amazing company and prime seating to view the evenings fireworks. The attention of the staff across the evening was on point, as was the kitchen. Our Restaurant Manager was very attentive to our table during the night and always with a smile on this very busy night of the year! Thank you all! Don’t hesitate to make a booking, you won’t be disappointed

Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service. Manger Jess turned my family away from restaurant as she said they were fully booked out, the restaurant was empty. Would not recommend.

Terrible experience we walked in and got turned away saying they were booked out when there was only one or two people in the restaurant !!! They apparently had too much dishes to do and couldn’t serve us how terrible

Very disappointing! We booked and prepaid for three people (three course meal) for New Year's Eve. The waitress didn't have a clue what was on the menu. They forgot to bring us one sparkling wine that was included in the booking. They brought us main and we didn't even have our entrees yet and at the end they tried to charges us extra $51, with no explanation what the charges would be for. Anyway, the whole experience was horrible!

We sat on the deck. The view of the Gorge is beautiful. Try to book to get a good seat. We ordered Peruvian Paella, seafood chowder, cheese cake.

Place is nice and staff very friendly. Food was overall disappointing and too salty. We wouldn’t eat here again despite the very nice location and staff…

We had dinner on new year's eve. New year's menu was well thought out and every dish was nice. We had four in the group and ordered different entree, mains and desserts, can't fault any. I would also like to appreciate the waitress that served us 'Sofia'. She was polite, pleasant and efficient.

Came here for a 3 course meal. Initially off to a good start. Couldn’t fault entrees. Didn’t get offered further drinks or to see a drinks menu. Waited over 30 minutes for our mains and then 40 minutes for dessert with no offer of beverages in between. The potato with the steak main was raw. There were also no non alcoholic drinks on the menu. Overall a disappointing experience for the price.

Food was somehow OK. Could have been more pasta with the Aglio e olio. Most of the plate was made up of the shells of the shells and feet of the prawns. Service was good though, fast and friendly.

Location, cleanliness, service staff were outstanding. The food though for the price was below expectation. Our table of two both choose fish and chips with a token salad of bunch of lettuce nothing else. For dessert, two scoops of ice cream. For the price, we felt short changed. Lovely location for coffee if wanting a view.

Utter crapola!! Typical rubbish service. They have a sign saying they are open, and the kitchen is closed at 2:30. We arrived at 2:34.

Lovely little place, nice food.

The Tacos were very bland and had an unpleasant taste. Not mexican at all. The tacos should be redesigned to taste better and mexican flavours, if not they should be removed from the menu. Not impressed at all. Decor, the blue napkins look like fluffy tea towels, stick to restaurant classy white napkins.

My partner and I visited for a drink and some oysters and to enjoy the view that is a key selling point of The Boatyard. So I’m from Sydney and the view wasn’t impressive. Our oysters were served at room temperature and not chilled at all. This made them somewhat unappetising. I asked our server about this and she took the oysters away and returned with a convoluted and unintelligible explanation. Once we had established that they had in fact been kept correctly and were safe to eat she brought the plate back. They were tasty enough but the temperature really detracted from our enjoyment. I should add that the price was $60 a dozen which is quite extortionate for a menu item that requires no preparation. UNESCO city of gastronomy? 🤣😆😂👎🏻

Disappointing meal, seafood spaghetti came with a murky grey soup trying to act as a sauce, seafood paella was bland and gluggy. Slow service, drinks took a fair while to arrive at our table. When asking to pay at the counter the staff stated they would bring the bill to the table, the receipt was then provided after approx 20 mins with no site of an eftpos machine needing us to return to the counter to pay, a very roundabout way of paying the bill.

Had an incredibly disappointing experience when dining here just now. Whilst the ambience and view was lovely, the food was simply terrible. The ‘sashimi’ was not sashimi but classic Tasmanian smoked salmon, which if you know anything about you’d steer well clear of. It was a ridiculous serving size too. Following this we waited about 50 minutes before the waiter came to ask whether we would like dessert… we had not yet received our mains. As for mains, the fish burger was burnt to a crisp, the brioche bun was nothing short of cremated, and the fish burger grey and dead inside. Additionally there was one wilted piece of lettuce and a single slice of tomato. The seafood pasta was equally disappointing being what I assume to be boxed dry pasta, undercooked with absolutely no flavour, a single cherry tomato, and a few pieces of salty seafood through it. During this time it was also mentioned we would need to reuse cutlery as the had run out of clean cutlery. The staff were understanding of our concerns and didn’t charge us for the so called sashimi (the only thing we ate), however, they were not surprised to hear of our disappointing experience and it seems this is a regular occurrence at The Boatyard.

Excellent place to go.😊

Recommended by a local river cruise skipper we were amazed by the quality and the serving sizes. Definitely worth the money and will come back next time we travel back to Launceston

Great location and friendly staff. Extensive drinks & food menu. Easy parking right in the front, but you need to pay. Seafood chowder a dissapointment, as was expecting a white creamy chowder. Turned out to be very watery and lack of flavours, believe they use frozen seafood and there are broken clam shells in the soup. Pretty average food with potential for improvements.

This restaurant has possibly the best location in all of Launceston. The vibe is immediately relaxed and inviting. All staff were very friendly and experienced. Our lunch time meals were delicious. I had Sashimi and partner had fish and chips. I love this place for its atmosphere, spotless facilities and food.

Worth very penny. Fantasic food with alot of life and flavour. Serving sizes are perfect and balance of flavours is brilliant. The chowder was amazing both the lactose free one and regular one.

Great location, food and service by the owner. The chowder, beef cheek and broccolini were sensational. Great selection of beers, wine and non alcoholic too. Can’t wait to return.

Brilliant dinner - been looking for a regular local place for a while and I think we’ve found it. Great cozy vibe. Peruvian paella was outstanding and the scallops were delicious. Service was also terrific. Will definitely be back!

Great little find. Loved the location on the water, perfect for sunset watching. Fresh seafood, we all really enjoyed our meals, good service, recommend the paella!

The seafood we have tried is extremely good and very reasonably priced. As locals, that’s why we keep going back Don’t miss the paella - I think it’s almost worth dying for. There is so much seafood in it, you almost have to search for the rice.

We had such a nice evening, the staff were so friendly and provided great service and the food and cocktails were delicious! We had oysters, scallops, ceviche and the market fish and it was all so good and fresh Really nice decor and feel inside the restaurant, we can’t wait to come again!

Our dinner was beautiful and tasty, nicely presented, and service was spot on.

Nice food and Chardonnay for a good relaxing lunch.

Meals were very well presented and tasted amazing. Service delightful.

We had a great night here :-) Food, service and atmosphere was great! And the Cherry Flower Negroni was amazing!

Had a great dinner here, delicious food and excellent service, make this a great place to eat out at Launceston.

Nice place to have lunch or dinner, loved their Peruvian Paella

Great place for lunch. Nice atmosphere with great service. Tasty menu choices.

Went to The Boatyard today for lunch , with one of my friends. I ordered beef cheeks which just melted in your mouth … for dessert we shared a cheesecake with berries… was beautiful as well

Good food, good views, friendly and helpful staff. What more can one ask for?

Walking past the restaurant the day before I was pretty keen to sample the seafood dinner options. The restaurant was well set out and staff very welcoming. Starting with three cuts gin the entrees arrived, Seared Scallops and Calamari. Both were a little disappointing. The mains a Paella, texture and tasted closer to a risotto and excessively salty. The Octupus was good. Overall it was a average night referring to the food but the service and atmosphere was great! The kitchen is letting the rest of the side down.

Our group had preset menu on New Years Eve 2023 paid for prior to the night only had to pay for drinks and any extras. One of our group were charged for another diners drinks and oysters in addition to her own drinks although they had been paid for.we have addressed this with the restaurant in person but they have not gotten back to us .Poor customer service will not be going back and our experience will be retold to friends .

Lovely atmosphere and reasonably good food. Nice place to eat with nice waterfront view. The scallop entree was great except for the bacon bits which were too hard. The slow cooked grilled octopus was nice and tender but just a bit bland. The fish and chips were crispy.

This was our first visit to Boatyard after walking past the restaurant many times. I've seen the amazing food photos come up on my Instagram feed quite often and since hubby's birthday was coming up, what better way to celebrate it than with some good tasty food. There were quite a few items on the menu that we wanted, but we decided to restrain ourselves and settle for the Slow Cooked Beef Croquettes, Sauteed Tassie Salmon, Seared Tassie Scallops, Slow Cooked Chicken Breast and Slow Cooked Beef Cheek. Everything looked and tasted amazing. Fresh, well seasoned and presented beautifully. Most of the dishes included some form of spice or chilli in them and I was worried that the heat would be too over bearing, but they were balanced perfectly in each dish. My favourite would definitely be the Slow cooked chicken in chilli cream sauce, served with crispy potato and olive dust. I believe this is one of their newest items on their menu. I don't know how long this dish will be on their menu but I highly recommend ordering it next time you go. The Slow cooked beef cheek in red wine and tomato sauce with mashed potato was also a tasty dish. The beef was cooked to perfection. There was really nothing to fault. The 3 share plates were also very satisfying. The beef croquettes were crispy on the outside with a nice fluffy mash on the inside, served with spicy mayo... which I preferred not to have. The salmon dish would probably be my least favourite dish, purely because I prefer my salmon more on the raw side. The salmon was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and chilli oil, in little bit size pieces, which in turn can make them a little on the drier side. The seared Tassie scallops were soooo tasty. I loved the combination of the scallops, buttery corn puree, Worcestershire sauce and crispy bacons bits. The scallops were cooked to perfection! My only fault with this dish is the size of the scallop pieces (5 tiny pieces), considering the price tag ($25). If you are hungry, I suggest to order something more substantial. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our first experience, the staff were incredible and we look forward to coming back again soon. Thanks Boatyard!

Very disappointed with our breakfast on Mothers Day. Forgot 2 of our coffees and the breakfast menu is really only eggs except for arvo on toast. My son didn’t even have breakfast as he doesn’t eat eggs. We waited over half an hour before it started to arrive and they weren’t even busy. Sorry but I won’t be returning.

Coffee is perfect....fantastic view...great range of food...very welcoming staff. Karen

Fantastic restaurant! We enjoyed an amazing dinner with Peruvian Seafood Chowder, which was the best seafood chowder in Australia. Loved it and best value for money. Will definitely come again.

This was our second visit to Boatyard. The food was great the first time, however the service was patchy. We decided to give it another go. This second visit was a flip of the first. The waitresses tried their best with service while the manager was is a side room most of the time on a computer. The scallop entree was well presented but light on flavour and tiny scallops. I had the seafood chowder which had undercooked vegetables in it and very light on seafood. My partner had the prawn and chorizo fettuccine. With no visible signs of prawns, the pasta was also undercooked and inedible. The offer of a free dessert to compensate for the poor dish was not satisfactory. This place is in a great setting but needs to work on the consistency of their food and the presence and leadership of the manager. We won’t be back.

This is a beautiful spot to enjoy lunch. The wait staff are wonderfully attentive and helpful. The food Is scrumptious….particularly the seared scallops and fish tacos. The view over the Tamar River from the enclosed verandah is glorious. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We had a lovely experience here, food was flavourful, staff were kind and helpful and the room was filled with boating/fishing items that you couldn’t help but try and look into every corner. We ate garlic prawns, octopus, paella and fish and chips (Wednesday night special with a beer). All delicious. Dessert was the cheese plate, cheesecake, semifreddo and the dacquoise. Again didn’t disappoint. Overall a great experience, we will return.

Boatyard restaurant is truly an idyllic little gem by the water, with views of the river and boatyard that add to the ambiance. During our visit to Tasmania, it stood out as one of our best dining experiences for the food, service and of course the setting. The Peruvian Paella was a standout dish, expertly prepared and bursting with flavour. The market fish, thoughtfully presented with a yellow chili broth on the side was beautiful in presentation and taste. I could imagine the restaurant's setting would make it a perfect spot for breakfast or lunch. We were so pleased we stumbled on this delightful restaurant, and it will definitely be on the top of our list the next time we are in Launceston. Highly recommend.

Lovely meal with wonderful service in beautiful candle light surroundings! A dining experience enjoyed by all four of us!

Excellent venue, great food, amazing views.

We had a lovely meal at Boatyard tonight. Fresh and flavoursome sashimi, good steak and spicy yum seafood paella followed by a lovely light dessert. Wine by the glass was also good and prices were reasonable for this point in time.

Had a wonderful night recently at the Boatyard. Food was amazing, service spot on. Had the best seat in the house by the corner window. Couldn't ask for more!

Pleasantly warm atmosphere with good cuisine and a great location by the river and Royal Park

Food was just OK but service was slow and poor

Fresh TAS Oysters

Haven't tried food yet,but the service is always faultless, and the atmosphere is great inside and out on under cover deck. Really looking forward to trying the food soon.

The garlic Prawns were swimming in garlic salted Tamar River water. It was muddy looking over salted. No finesse. Sourdough slice with no butter or option of butter. The menu was a dirty piece of paper with the menu on. The wine list was given more care, in a leather binder. Obviously they expect to sell more alcohol than food. Would not recommend or ever go there again. Once bitten twice shy.

A lovely atmosphere... and venue to meet up and chat with dear friends over lunch. Thank you

Great spot for lunch, great salads, good chips

Definitely would not go back the sea food was over cooked and over priced for the amount of food on plate...drinks also over priced..
