The Club
Founded in 1897, the Colac Bowling Club has a rich history that dates back to the same year Essendon won the first VFL premiership and Fremantle harbour welcomed its first ship. Over the years, the club has undergone two relocations, several extensions, and a major internal refurbishment, yet it continues to provide an exceptional experience for its members and guests. The stunning panoramic views of Lake Colac and the vibrant social atmosphere remain unchanged, making it a beloved destination.
The Location
Nestled on the southwest shore of Lake Colac, the club offers legendary views of the lake. Whether you’re enjoying a function in one of the large rooms or rolling on the bowling greens, the scenery is breathtaking and a must-see for anyone visiting Colac.
Expansion
From its humble beginnings in Market Square, the Colac Bowling Club has grown significantly. Today, it boasts three high-quality greens, including two “Tiger Turf” carpet greens that host competitive tournaments. The club also features spacious function and member areas, perfect for weddings, corporate events, or parties. A recently upgraded audio-visual system ensures every event is memorable.
Meetings and Functions
The Colac Bowling Club is an ideal venue for meetings and corporate functions. With a PA system, wireless microphones, an overhead data projector, and a 100-inch television screen included in your booking, the club takes the stress out of event planning. Catering, drinks, and seating arrangements are also handled, making it a seamless experience for hosts and guests alike.
Social Membership
The club is a fantastic spot for barefoot bowls, where you can enjoy the sun, the lake, and the bar while bowling with friends. Becoming a Club Member comes with great benefits:
- Social Membership: Access to social bowls, Friday members’ draws, discounted pricing, venue hire, and Happy Hour on Tuesdays and Sundays from 5pm.
- Full Membership: Full playing and voting rights, along with all social benefits.
History
- 1897: Founded as the oldest bowling club in Colac, originally located in Market Square.
- 1921: Relocated to Manifold Street.
- 1964: Moved to its current location at Western Bay, with subsequent expansions including a new club lounge and bar in 1969.
- 1979: Associates were admitted to the club.
- 1980: Bingo was introduced and continues every Friday night.
- 1988: A third green was constructed.
- 1992: Major extensions to the kitchen and dining room.
- 2004: The members’ lounge was extended for better viewing of all three greens.
- 2007: The ladies’ locker room was enlarged.
- 2011 & 2013: Installation of “Tiger Turf” carpet greens.
- 2017: Major internal refurbishment, including new bars, offices, and upgraded function spaces.

My family and I feel like we were not welcome here. We were watching friends compete in the bowls grand finals. Every time we tried to purchase we felt like we were doing the wrong thing. Others were served in front of us even though they came to the bar after us, they seemed to get a lot more friendlier service than us also. We ended up leaving before the end of the game, the “regulars” here are just down right rude. Don’t waste your time here, many better places in Colac.

Sophie, our bartender was bloody lovely and a joy to chat to. Would return even just for her, lovely. Give that woman a raise, stat. Toilets are clean, smell great, shout out to the cleaners
Been to the Club a few times for Bingo, people running Bingo are very friendly. Staff behind the bar are very rude while play is in process, loud talking, too much noise, rattle of trays etc. Should you have anyone that's hard of hearing this would be very disappointing, even would very good hearing this is annoying.

Walked off the street after a walk around the lake foreshore and had a very good coffee with my mother who also said that her coffee was good and the staff were nice and friendly
