The food and drink was OK. The service was poor, despite there being several staff on shift. The attitude was not great and I wouldn't recommend this place.
Needs attention from its owners, clearly understocked in bar area.
Great place to eat, well priced & good service.
Great old pub. Just had a fresh up. Good staff. Used to drink there years ago. Could have better music in bar.
We went here on a Thursday for the $15 burgers. It had been a while since I'd been and I'm pleased to say, the Havie still has its rustic charm which adds to the experience. The staff were all exceptionally hospitable and friendly to deal with. The 3-6pm weekday happy our was a Sweetener. We had the burgers of course, they were ok and the the price definitely worth it; however at their normal $25 price I would have expected a small salad and a better (less dry and dense) burger bun. A minor tweak which I'm sure will come.
This place is kinda overrated. Came in for $25 steak night. Steak was rough. One of the steaks was forgotten and got served as we all finished our meals. They compd it for us but still... Staff were friendly but nevertheless... Not great quality food + forgotten order didnt go down well. Avoid the steak is the best I can say. Though it was a $25 steak its still $25. Good range of 0% beers? Not great. Was fortunately surrounded by my beautiful loved to help share the grief lol
We stayed in an apartment nearby in Hume Street, for 3 days, and were recommended to try the General Havelock for a good meal. We had lunch there each of the 3 days - the food is great, and the service is brilliant. Super-friendly staff.
Best keraage chicken ever. Omg. So crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and great flavour!
The smallest and toughest beef snitty I’ve ever had.
$10 for 2 soda waters ?
Quality service loved the atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, service and lots of choices of drinks. I did not order food, as was there for a function. Did order a drink at the bar, and was appalled to learn that they charge an extra $4 for Fever Tree Tonic, on top of the drink price! Outrageous. A drink adverstised for $11 cost $15, which seems like a deceptive practice to me. Check on the total drink price when you order folks!!!
Nice bar and food Friendly staff
On Tuesday night, the chicken wing deal is particular good value with a plate loaded of spicy wings to enjoy. The steaks were okay but nothing to write home about. Friendly service and great beets on tap. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the local wildlife walking by
As a local and perpetual regular of the General Havelock, I am continuously impressed by the food, service and staff, a true commitment to hospitality always willing to go above and beyond. They maintain a constant standard of excellence that is to be admired. I would give 6 stars if possible.
The only place to be in Adelaide during the Adelaide 500.. Thank you..
In the excitement I totally forgot to shoot a photo of my wagyu steak. It was great. Small but very tasty for $41. It's an expensive meat. Staff were friendly and toilets were clean.
Went on Steak night and can confirm that I wasn’t disappointed. Friendly staff and a nice place to hit up
Old world charm beckons from the facade and heightens the anticipation as you step inside. Friendly smiles greet you as wonderful smells waft from the bistro, whilst you absorb the beautifully preserved bar and parlour. The Thursday $15 Burger special is an absolute must, especially the Fried Chicken and Bacon Burger with chip. which for a non fried cuisine aficionado was simply delicious and surprisingly not oily or greasy at all. I must thank Lachlan for his amazing hospitality and guidance for my meal selection. Make GH a must dine /visit whilst visiting amazing Adelaide. 👏
Thursday $15 burger. Great value and importantly, an excellent burger!
Went for a steak deal night. The steak was perfectly cooked to our desires. The chips were crunchy and chopped in a good size. Atmosphere was amazing. Would definitely comeback :)
Had lunch with friends. Nice atmosphere. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly.
The vibe in this place is really great since the bar was restored to wood and the insides stripped back to reveal the beautiful bare bones of the old pub. The service is always friendly, beers are cold and every meal I’ve ever had here has been spot on. I’m partial to a beef schnitzel with mushroom sauce here.
I held a 20+ family function and the team could not have been better. They were super considerate and friendly and obliging. My family had a great time and the food was excellent (including rave reviews from our gluten-free and coeliac members) Thank you so much and we will be back.
Always love visiting when in Adelaide
Booked a table only to be sent to the front bar as they had closed for functions on both dining areas food was not the best the chicken schnitzel was so tough couldn’t cut it with a knife service was null and void no one new what was going on so sending people to sit to dine only for them to be turned away (private function) sign still up that were no longer being served
Booked a table online for the evening on the balcony, got told when we headed up that it was closed for a private function that had been “booked last minute”. Not really impressed with how this place handles bookings or what the actual point of online booking is?
Friendly, accommodating staff, lovely atmosphere, not too busy, food was delicious and specials were good value.
Excellent service combined with delicious food made for a great evening. Special thanks to Lacie and Daniel for making our event perfect. Highly recommend.
This used to be the place to be. Popped in for a drink but there is a TAB…not working. There is no ATM for the non working TAB. The young lad behind the bar is very attentive when not on his phone and the young lass is just casually chatting to a punter about life, love and being on the pill.
Too expensive the salad was sooo bad and sauce $5 extra and they don't serve desserts what !!!!!!!!!!!!!
We came for dinner Friday night. My partner had the Scotch fillet. Not impressed. $48 for a piece of meat that was about the size of a crumpet if not flatter. Way overpriced. Choice of bottles of wine mostly over $50. Not a cheap night out.
This pub was practically empty at lunchtime on Valentines day. The food and service were quite good, but generally more expensive, especially the wine, ($15 for a small glass!... only $9 in other pubs).
Expect no consistency from The Havelock. I swing by here about once a month for the Monday schnitzel special which in all fairness is one of the best deals in Adelaide. Although almost every time I’m here, the schnitzel changes. Whether it be the side salad, chips, sauce, or flat out the schnitzel itself, it is rare to see the dish stay the same for more than a month. Maybe there’s just a new head chef that often? Today everything has changed. Different schnitzels, less flavour. Salad is wildly overdressed, mushroom sauce tastes more like french onion soup. One of the less pleasant food experiences I’ve had at The Havelock. What will next time be like, I wonder? P.S The disco music is not giving ‘Monday lunch’
$31 for a vegan schnitzel with no sauce!! $5 if I wanted to add gravy!! $36 for a schnitzel and gravy?! No thanks!!!
I was very disappointed by the schnitzel this evening. The price was the seller however it was not good at all. The 'mushroom' sauce i asked for was watery, no mushroom and was just full of onion. Was not worth the $5 extra. If you are going to charge that much extra for sauce I would expect it to be quality and actually taste like mushroom. The chicken was very pink, im hoping I don't get sick from undercooked chicken. Very disappointing. It may only be $15 plus the $5 for terrible sauce but I think I'll stick to a more expensive meal somewhere else..
What’s happened to this once great pub? Used to be open 7 days a week, now 6 days but open Sunday during summer. Well it’s summer now and it’s still closed Sunday. Nowadays it opens up at 4pm. How can you survive with these hours. Look at the other hotel in Hutt Street. They always have customers there
Love this place! I have been a long time patron and have never had a bad experience! I highly recommend!
Service was OK considering the place was full of Valo500 attendees. Little bit of effort to keep toilets clean on a busy afternoon would have helped.
Nice old pub staff were very friendly
Average at best!!! Being kind.
Lovely staff but managed to get our order wrong! Offered us a complimentary drink each. Food was great non the less. Would recommend.
Excellent range of beers on tap
Best barramundi for its price that I have had in a while. Thick chunks of Barra perfectly cooked accompanied with fresh salad and creamy tartare sauce. We also tried the vegan burger, a little plain and the beef burger which tonight was amazing. We are sitting outside enjoying the atmosphere on a perfect night - what a great space!
Waited over 40 minutes for cold burgers and cold chips, yummy to eat but just a little disappointed.
Meal was amazing, steak was absolutely perfect, everything was priced surprisingly well as well
Had a fabulous Friday evening here with friends. Staff were great and drink prices very reasonable, especially during Happy Hour. Everyone enjoyed their meals...great views from the verandah too.
I had the calamari and salad and I loved it. Service super friendly, I just wish they had coffee and tea. But will go again
You could include some sauce with your Parmis if you are going to charge $29 for a pretty stingy serving. Bit of a rip off for anything except for the special for that night. Staff are really lovely and everything else is great.
Over from TAS for the birth of my first Grand child. Called in and everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Lovely fire and cool aesthetics, great place to spend time with friends!
Steaks are good
It was schnitzel night on Monday. $10 shnitty if you buy a drink. The prawn topping was extra. The food was excellent and tasty. Service was quick and the venue is nice and trendy.
excellent, quiet atmosphere! Great friendly service; good food, great price!!
Great place for lunch. Make sure you are there early as the place can be crowded at lunch time. Food is good pub standard.
The food took OVER 1 HOUR and when it came out, it came all separate, hence we couldn't share our meal together. The food was OVERCOOKED. When we enquired about the food's waiting time, the Manager told us that they where going to give us free drinks.... still waiting for them...🙄 The music was TOO LOUD, so it was very hard to have a conversation. Very disappointed.
Waiting 1.5 hours for food I can deal with on a busy night. The chef refusing to replace chips with vegetables (I have a dietary requirement) and sending the meal out with chips anyway- that was really disappointing. The bar staff were lovely and quite helpful, but I will not be returning here.
Went for Schnitzel night on a Monday, one of the few that are still a good deal AND the schnitzel was tasty and generous. Friendly service. Front bar is open but still being renovated so a bit of mess about but it looks great so far.
Just got served by a man with bleached hair and terrible attitude. Have never had this kind of “service” here. Every other time I come to the havelock it’s normally really friendly and welcoming but today it was just atrocious and hostile. I think if I saw him again I probably wouldn’t walk in. Food was good though and everyone else was lovely
Expensive compared to all of other pubs
Food was good but 5 meals came out together and the other 1 was ready when 3 others were nearly finished I booked the bistro because I expected the front bar to be noisier, a rugby party literally just through an open door made it hard to have a conversation
$15- burgers on Thursday nights.
Cheap and fantastic chicken schnitzels on Monday nights
Staff was super duper nice and lovely, and the beef burger was fab. Great selection of beers on tap. Go on the burger special night for $15!
Great spot, friendly service, Reno underway,so a little chaotic, but will be great when done ✅
Great pub. Mid reno out the front at the moment and with the disruptions, the staff are still welcoming and friendly. The rear outdoor/ indoor area is great and offers a warm environment in the cold and shade / cover in the heat. Highly recommend this pub when in the hutt st area. Rock n roll 🪨 🎸
Was looking for somewhere near the city that did great schnitzels ……. And we found it! Six of us dining ……all had schnitzels……everybody happy 😃
Great staff. Pleasant surroundings. Good food.
The salt and pepper squid was cooked to perfection, however we felt the the pub has been de personalised, very little interaction from the staff, the menu stripped to bare bones, the service efficient but completely devoid of personality and the dining room barely habitable due to high noise level-from tables in the beer garden. A real let down from the pub we felt welcome in 12 months ago, and the pub we have called our local for 15 years, I doubt we will return.
The food was ok, nothing special. They sell Guinness on tap, I and a friend were looking forward to a Guinness, but they said they had a problem with it. The prices of food were not consistent with the online menu on their website, even though I checked that afternoon, at least one item was $4 different.
The most disgusting chicken wings I’ve ever eaten - extra sour and hot bones to chew on.
