Have had multiple visits since the renovation and my hopes were high. Visited prior to renovation also so can only expect it to better itself…. The food let’s say is sub par a cozy pub meal but its prices are in excess of restaurants. The gravy is a thin salty brown water to splash on the lukewarm warm chips and enjoy with your mere palm sized $50+ steak or millimetre thin schnitzel. The salad is a rough handful of Cole’s loose leaf salad with some aggressively sized wedges of over ripe tomato and a sprinkle of red onion. Sort your self out or count your days, the glynde hotel does a fantastic large parmy and beer for $25 every night FYI ($34 for a parmy & no beer here….. )
Our group of 10 had a pleasant evening meal on a hot Sunday evening. The food was all quite tasty - standard pub selections. The 4 kids aged 4-7, devoured their meals, although they didn’t rate the play area very highly, but it was a good spot for them to run off to, easily accessed from the bistro. Staff were great, friendly and very understanding with a spilt drink, and prepping my birthday cake - thank you. ( the raspberries 😊) In extreme heat, I’d suggest locking the folding doors to the playground area, and just having the end door accessible - the hot wind blowing into the bistro was quite unpleasant.
I did not really like a lot of choices on the menu. The meal was very nice. I got the fish. The staff were very friendly & professional. Love the new upgraded facilities.
Recently renovated, great service, cold beers and giant schnitzels - what more could you want! :-)
Staff here are amazing expecially Tyler ( restaurant bar staff) so kind and welcoming. Food is great.
Really nice and comfortable place, reasonable prices for drinks food was good
Payneham Tavern Has A New Decor Throughout And Looks Very SHARP.......... 👌 My Favorite Area Is The New Outdoor Dining Area Off The Dining Room. Staff Is Welcoming & Friendly. Sports Bar has a Great Selection Of Drinks, TAB, KENO, FOXTEL. Lots Of TV Screens. Dining Room Offers A New Decor Throughout With Drinks & Menu Experience. Bottle Shop Drive Thru Is Directly Out Front. Lots Of Available Parking Onsite. I Look Forward To Returning Very Soon. Can Thoughly Recommend The Payneham Tavern For All Your Future Hospitality Needs 🙂
Standard pub grub in new surrounds, nothing to write home about. Had the schnitty, if you mess that up then you should pack up shop. Fortunately, they didn’t. Prompt service also. Worth a visit
Had a large group booked for dinner. They had us seated in the sports bar away from. The restaurant. There was virtually no cooling or airflow. After complaining the staff kindly moved us into the main restaurant area but there were not enough seats to accommodate all of the party. Some of us had to sit and eat at a separate table in the sports bar. I was kind enough to ensure my wife, her friends, and our family were comfortably seated, but several of us did not get to enjoy their company at all whilst we were there. Secondly, my sister was ignored at the bar for 5 minutes, all the while staff serving others that came after her. Her complaints were ignored. Thirdly, it's terrible value. $58 for a Scotch fillet steak. It's overpriced, and the food was only average pub quality. Finally, they have no cider. They offer the RTD Somersby as the cider of choice offering all 3 RTD flavours. Won't be going back again. The main fault lies squarly with the bookings manager. Good riddance!
Nice friendly staff. Plenty of tables, well spread out. The service was a little bit slow but the food was very good. Lovely chips. Very nice coffee also. There is play equipment for kids and they also have a kids menu.
Good pub food and friendly staff.
Had a rump steak this evening and it was so tough and overcooked, I couldn't eat it. Worst steak of my life and overpriced for the smallest steak ever. Hubby had a parmi which was also dry and overcooked. Won't be visiting for meals again.
Whilst the service staff are pleasant we were let down on prompt delivery of food. One schnitzel was well overcooked and burnt on edges. Chips were floury. Meals did not come out together..big gaps...so by time last one came part of the table had already finished theirs. Looks like they can't cope when busy. Was there week prior totally different experience, food amazing and came out timely manner and for all at the table.
Top spit all round
All round good experience for my family and children loved the playground. Very tasty food indeed.service was exceptional. Well done everybody.had a shared lunch with so many good options. Including pizza. Buon appetit .
New pub is great! Atmosphere is good too. Service is great. Good however, flavours in gravey is dismal. Please taste ya gravey guys it needs work
We went along for lunch one Sunday recently. The food was average, prices quite high for the quality to be honest. I had a schnitzel with the garlic prawns, it was pretty average. Kids playground was good, but very busy! Service was amazing, we were served by Alicia who was so friendly and helpful, truly an asset to the venue and a wonderful host. We would consider going again but the quality of the food was definitely not worth the price
Every staff member we encountered was super friendly and helpful. We’ll be back :)
Food and service was fast and friendly.
Good food, if a little over-priced. Service was a little lacking. Reservation was given away to a private function which took priority, but this was never mentioned when confirming the day before. So some polishing of policies and procedures wouldn't hurt.
Visited The Payneham a couple weeks ago with seven friends to celebrate my late friends birthday. We chose the venue based on the fact it was recently renovated but the experience was average and at times uncomfortable. Before dinner, my friend attempted to purchase a beer for himself, when the beer arrived he decided to purchase a whole round of drinks for the group as well, the lady at the bar hesitated to take the order and insisted my friend pay for his own drink first upfront. It was a confusing and unnecessarily hostile interaction during what should've been a standard transaction. While we tried to joke about it to lighten the mood, it highlighted a lack of customer service awareness. I ordered the scotch fillet, which was the most expensive steak on the menu. The quality was very average, and when the waitress asked for feedback, I was honest about my disappointment. She acknowledged they’d received multiple negative reviews about the cut before joking that I must be giving negqtive feedback just to get a free meal. It was an unusual way to handle an awkward conversation. To the pubs credit, the lamb pies ordered by my friends were well received, but for a pub that wasn't even busy (it was a Wednesday night), I expected better service and higher quality for a premium cut. I wouldn’t rush back, especially not for the scotch fillet.
aleisha and jack had sensational customer service, i couldn’t thank them enough for the help
abspulety amazing service!! Jack an aleisha need a pay rise!!!
Great service good staff was very nice
Nice relaxing place
First time back since the refurb, excellent service, food was great. I only marked 4 stars for atmosphere as it was a Tuesday. I’m sure it’s buzzing at the weekend.
Amazing view of payneham road
The Chef and food & beverage attendant went over and above expectations to accommodate my food allergy. Made especially, it was delicious. Greatly appreciated. Will certainly be back. Thanks Chef!
Chef Mike aka microwave heated my over price taseless lamb pie. This place is expensive and bland food is served
1% surcharge for using a card on my meals without telling me, pisses me off! Reasonable size chicken schnitzels, average pub fare, salad was fresh, chips average. $33.33 for a parmy. Loud and take a jacket if it's cool, all the doors are open.
Amazing staff, efficient and quick service, less wait time for food.Loved the newly renovated atmosphere. Schnitzel was amazing pizza was great.
First visit to Payneham Tavern after the renovation. Dined there Monday evening. Was very pleasantly surprised by the new decor in the bistro and outdoor area (though the outdoor area tables looked a little crowded). Only a few tables inside were occupied, still a little noisy, and I can imagine it would get rather noisy during busy times. Also has a gated kiddy play area near the outer seating. Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy their meals; I had the Nicoise salad which was very fresh, bright and tasty with warm potatoes and beans, and a lovely lemony dressing. The only thing that could have made it more enjoyable was some fresh crusty bread. I very much miss having bread or rolls supplied with every meal; this practice become more common unfortunately (hence the 4 stars given). Salad was so tasty I forgot to take a picture
We didn't enjoy our experience. Firstly, the amount of people on Friday night is just overwhelming and the amount of children is just unbelievable - it literally feels like you're dining inside of a childcare facility. We were put to a table near the DJ console and right under the speaker, and when we complained that it's too loud for our Nanna, they said they can't do anything about it as the speakers are the same everywhere. When I went to the bar for drinks, every single time I was ignored while waiting in the line and the staff served people behind me first - it literally happened 3 times. We waited for our food for 1 hour to be prepared - possibly the longest we've ever waited anywhere. We thought that maybe the food would be worth it but it was quite average, and the burger had visibly soggy salad inside. Only putting 2 starts as their pizza (or rather round focaccia) was decent.
Came here for an anniversary, was lovely atmosphere and they even put up balloons! The salmon was really nice as well as the fried chicken. They gave complimentary drinks to the couple. We got our food rather quickly. All around a great experience, except for the green chippies!
A group of 3 men in 70's to 80's has lunch there. All happy with food though none of us pretend yo be connoisseurs. Di ǰon mustard sauce turned out to be not sauce but plenty of de Jon mustard. I was particularly grateful when leaving. I hadn't realised that I had left my phone behind on our table. One of the waiting ladies chased me up in the car park with it. Much appreciated. Should have said that the De jon mustard gravy was not gravy, just sauce. Also should have said that staff were very helpful and service quick. One difference was that disability parking was not as accessible as previously.
A lovely place to go for lunch food was great
Went with some mates today to checkout the new renovation. Meal prices were probably among the highest I have seen for pub meals in Adelaide. When the meals came out they were pretty average and nothing special to justify the price.
Not a very extensive menu, just typical pub food, so just retreated to a schnitzel. It was juicy inside and crunchy out side $28 , I added creamy garlic prawns for $12. They were great. Staff are unsure where to deliver meal as the table numbers can't be seen (flat disks on the table with QR code for ordering) Take a hat if you sit outside in the the beer garden or you'll get fried from the afternoon sun, they need tinting or blinds. No big negatives, happy to return and try again.
The ambiance was pleasant, and the staff provided exceptional service, which we appreciated. However, despite arriving early with only one other table seated, it took quite a long time for our food to arrive, raising concerns about service speed during peak hours. Additionally, the website advertised Sunday as a kids’ day with plenty of entertainment, but we only saw one person making basic balloon animals, which was disappointing and didn’t match the description. The brand new playground was good. Lastly, while we enjoyed the experience, everything was on the pricier side. I would still recommend this place for families and would go back to try other items on the menu.
Nicely renovated, wine expensive by the glass, probably need more staff on as it was busy and not really clear on where to order a drink as opposed to lining up to order food. This was on a Friday night.
Newly renovated and reopened pub, Great staff who handled teething issues they were having very well. Rest was disappointing, overpriced, limited selections, typical pub food with nothing different to the average pub but at higher prices. Very limited wine list given it has a large bottle shop attached (former Liquorlan) with the few wines at restaurant prices for what are sub $20 wines. It is a pokies pub which is what the overall feel is even with renovations, but priced at prices more fitting a higher end establishment. Better choices within a few km.
Been wanting to try the Payneham Tavern ever since it got renovated. I went for dinner tonight and absolutely loved it. The staff were very warm, welcoming and helpful. I ordered the chicken burger and my brother ordered the schnitzel. I loved the burger and my brother said it was the best schnitzel he’d ever had, the chips were also amazing! The food came out super quick. There is also a kids playground in an enclosed outside area. I’m definitely going to bring the family back.
Went there tonight for dinner with the misses and kids, loved he renovation, beautiful new carpet, the paint on the walls exceptional, but that is where the praise ends, ordered a bottle of sparkling wine, it was warm, then the food came out, and omg I have had some bad schnitzels over the years and this one was of the down there with the worst of them. Fried to within an inch of its life, it was dry tough and bloody hard to cut let alone eat, I thought the saving grace might have been the chips except they were colder than the wine and soggy. Atlas at least some fresh salad, no I was wrong 1 bit of tomato, 3 slices of cucumber and a few bits of lettuce that looked like they had mad a few trips over the pass and through the dining room . All in all a very enjoyable experience if you enjoy bad food warm booze and nice painting and decorating
This place has gone from basic to next level quality food! I have fussy kids and they loved it 😁😁

Service #1, staff ever so accommodating. Food was very good and happy to have been given a choice of salad or veg along with chips. Have been a few times, this time was really nice. I love the okay area for the grandies, that's our draw card.
Good pub with decent food, great service and a fun quiz atmosphere on a Friday night.
Great place, plus a different all around world of front bar. It is oval bar.
Good value and good quality pub food. Friendly staff. It's not the latest style style, and it is a bit of a pokie palace, but it's still fine for a meal and a quiet drink.
