Big, hearty meals. Steaks were fantastic. Service was quick.

The staff where lovely and very welcoming, food was fantastic- wife had Chicken Mignon, son (11) had beef ribs and I had the rare steak so tender and flavoursome was meant to be 300g but I think bigger! I would recommend - there is a secrete desert for kids ice cream three scopes with topping simple but much enjoyed - just ask the ladies they are mean to assist!

It's a nostalgic pub (dead during the week), food is AVERAGE. Mcdonald's has a play ground for kids, so went there the next night.

The food was great, however, some of the rudest service I have ever experienced. One of our team did not receive their meal & when enquired about, were treated like we were the problem. We eat out a lot as a travelling business & to be treated so rudely by the 2 young waitresses left a very bad taste in our mouths. For 7 people eating at an average of $50 each to be treated with such disrespect is appalling. Not the only ones on a Wed night to have problems. We will not be coming back & we come to Armidale 3 times a year. Not happy at all.

Went there last night as it’s a Halloween themed party, expecting some variation in music choice. Everyone dressed up amazing. The DJs didn’t play ANY Halloween music, it’s the same premixed generic trash they’ve been playing every weekend for years. The audio mixing and sound quality is still horrible, and is just blaringly loud it sounds distorted. But people still come here and bring in the money, so there’s not much reason to want to improve anyway.

The pasta of the day; a creamy pasta with truffle was absolutely delicious. The garlic bread was also really great and the cocktails, while as pricey as they usually are, were very well done.

Very expensive, not very nice, hamburger at $27! We felt rushed - like the kitchen staff were more important than us.

Service was great and fast! The main eating area was lovely but full. Surf and turf, cooked rare. The steak cooked perfectly. The sauce had no flavour. Lamb ragu with house-made gnocchi. The sauce was wonderful, with very little lamb. The gnocchi was good but undercooked. Kids cheeseburger and chips. The chips were seasoned perfectly. The meat pattie was bland, but the child did like it. Meals came quickly and reasonably priced. Thank you.

Ordered 3 meals, and it took an hour for the first meal, then another 30 minutes for th 2nd. At 2 hours, we never received the last and we decided to ask for a refund. We constantly ask but received terrible service. All the otherr tables had the same problem only half the meals arriving. The problem is they don't use take numbers, so it is a lottery on who gets their meal. Other had other patrons meals. DONT DO IT. YOU ARE WASTING MONEY AND TIME.

Wife and I dropped in randomly for a feed and a drink. Soft shell crab was good but the scotch fillets were banging, cooked to request perfectly Glorious fire place right there while we ate. Will be back for sure...

It’s a nice looking pub and the wood fire is lovely. However, the food was terrible. The steak that was supposed to be medium rare was over cooked and close to well done, tough and covered in a ridiculous amount of pepper. The gnocchi in the lamb ragu was dry and heading for chalky. Also check your bill, as we were charged twice for a side dish.

Worst 'medium rare' steak I've ever encountered. Dry, tough, and verging on well done. I've worked with 1st year apprentices that would be ashamed to put out something like this.

We are here now eating delicious food but it's freezing in the bistro. Everyone is asking for them to pump up the fire. Such a shame as the food was fabulous

Upon stepping into the charming ambiance of the New England Pub, I was immediately drawn to its cozy atmosphere, adorned with a majestic fireplace, rustic wooden decorations, and a vintage carpet that seemed to whisper tales of bygone eras. Settling in, I opted for the half rack of ribs, which turned out to be a pleasantly generous portion of eight succulent ribs. While the tenderness of the meat was undeniable, I couldn't help but feel that the flavor profile fell short of expectations. Offering only one choice of flavor may limit the culinary experience, especially when there are undoubtedly superior recipes out there. However, the affordability of the meal was a pleasant surprise, considering the portion size. As for libations, while the beer selection was satisfactory, I couldn't help but wish for a more diverse offering, perhaps including iconic European brews like Guinness to complement the pub's namesake. Overall, despite the minor culinary shortcomings, the New England Pub exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere that beckons patrons to unwind and create their own memorable stories within its cozy confines.

Ok rocked up at 6 pm Sat night thinking it would be busy. I was the only one there till 6.50 Staff friendly and attentive. Limited menu but I only wanted a steak and salad. Steak tasty but had the burnt smell The salad a 3 yr old could have made. Do yrself a favour and go to the Whitebull Richard

Pub is a little dingy, and downstairs smells of cigarette, purely cos they don't have the room for a smokers area. But the food and service are awesome. Fantastic food. Not expected at a country pub.

What a fantastic pub, open fire places with an old country feel, it smelt nice with the wood burning and it was nice and warm because it was bloody cold outside, the meal was awesome I had steak chips and veg with peppercorn sauce and of course a few ice cold beers, do yourself a favour if your in Armidale call in for a meal.

Always great service and great food here. Plenty of seating.

We visited The New England Hotel without a booking. They had space which was great. We sat in the back raised area which isn’t as nice as the front by the bar. The disused pizza looking kitchen looks like a storage dumping area and the mould ceiling could be attended to. Even if it’s a patch job regularly. The food was good, the presentation in a red plastic basket could be improved with a plate to make the meal easier to eat off. The staff were friendly which is always important to me, as much as the food quality. We ordered 2 x chicken burgers for the adults which we enjoyed, and 2 x kids cheeseburgers. One kid ate. The other didn’t due to the type of cheese 🤷‍♀️. Chips were good! I would recommend for a bite to eat if you stumble across this pub.

This place really has a lot of potential. But I've visited over the last four years and the front bar is need of serious renovations and the service in th restaurant is poor. The front bar could be great and drinks are well priced, but they could do so much more with the place. It feels as if the current owners are just happy to let it fall to bits and extract what they can out of it. Update 23. Ok so we've seen a bit of improvement. Worth a visit, and hopefully better things to come

VerY small sample size review coming. (N=3). Three meals over six weeks. All came out cold. Going into this pub the last time I was interested in seeing if the meals came out cold again. They did. Thankfully the rump steak was superb. I’ll go back again and get the steak. I’ll ask the staff to not leave my meal on the front counter while they serve the very few people in thE front bar. On a previous visit believe I could see my meal out the back for 10 minutes on the chefs finished station. Both chef and manager need to fix this review. Best steak in Armidale deserves better.

I recently visited The New England Hotel, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the sticky floors, which made it difficult to walk around without feeling uncomfortable. The entire venue had an unpleasant smell, which did not help the situation. To make matters worse, the audio mixing was terrible. The music was far too loud, and the sound quality was awful. It was impossible to hold a conversation without shouting, which made the whole experience frustrating and unpleasant. The staff were also incredibly rude and unhelpful. When I approached the bar to order a drink, the bartender was dismissive and didn't seem interested in serving me. To top it off, the drinks were overpriced and not worth the money. Overall, I would not recommend The New England Hotel. The sticky floors, terrible audio mixing, rude staff, and overpriced drinks all contributed to a disappointing and unpleasant experience. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else to go.

I didn't stay very long but it was an enjoyable stay. My meal (pepper steak pie) was very tasty and a good hearty serving. The staff member was lovely. The beer was cold and wet. What more could you want?

We did not enjoy our lunch there. There was no salad with the barrumundi and chips, batter was very yellow, chips were nice. We were very cold, plenty of wood around but the fire was not going very well.
