Nice steak on week days

Food is now very good. It really has a nice beer garden now.

The property was clean and sufficient for the time I was in the area. It would be good to see milk in the fridge for tea/coffee and the remote for the TV already in the room as standard. The food at the restaurant/pub was good. A pleasant stay.

Great pub, fabulous atmosphere. Michael and his staff are so friendly and helpful. Food and drinks, top notch. Beautiful beer garden.

Update Jan. 2025 With new owners, there are new chefs and a new menu, and new impressions. Really miss the previous kitchen team, their food, menu and warm personable personalities. Had a curry on a Wednesday and the rice was really undercooked and the meal underwhelming. For a Wednesday special, that's very unfortunate. Had a great steak another day though, which was necessary at at that price point. Although we still love their outdoor space and like how they've refreshed the place, and that it's so close to home, we now rarely go and miss having a great home joint! There's no motivation for us to go there anymore. Lowering my rating from 5 stars to 3. ....... Old review - no longer valid but will keep it here nevertheless. We're Botany locals and have had meals at all hotels in the area but the last half year or so, we only come here. We love the big beer garden, the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff here! They're all particularly sweet to our 6 year old son which makes both him and us feel great!!! The chefs'are awesome, super nice, also fantastic with our boy who really likes them and they make amazing food!!! Our favorites are definately the steaks and the Sunday roast pork dinner and our son always goes for the kids cheeseburger without sauce that includes an ice cream for dessert! Food is always cooked to perfection!!!!!!! Love this place!!!

Great meals

Room was fine. Fresh towels were put in the room after 3 days. Room was not cleaned once during the 6 days stay or the waste disposed of. The center is easily accessible by public transport.

Room was located near aircons which was so loud I could not sleep. Could not open window for fresh air due to noise. Had to leave to find accommodation elsewhere. Not recommended, even if desperate, like I was.

Service is great, rooms are crap. TV doesn't work and there is no option for Netflix etc. Showers could do with an upgrade so that water stays got for 30 seconds

Lucked into this place after my flight was cancelled and I needed a hotel close to the airport. Great food and drink. No frills rooms but clean and it had all the amenities.

Ha d superb meal with my friends tonight. Chicken parmi and Caesar salad with skewers and halloumi sides. Delicious. Staff were so attentive. Thank you Sherry, Corey and Nan. Hello Luca too! What’s great team. We will return.

Regular at this place for a long period. Although the new owners needed to replace the chef after taking over the food is still no good. Took my son for our usual Sunday lunch and was served an almost raw burger, returned it and the replacement was also raw as well. Contacted Captain cook via Facebook via zero response after supplying photos.

Fantastic pub. Fantastic staff. Fantastic food. For love of God if I order a schnitty or a steak, please put the chips anywhere but under it. I go to cut the thing and the chips slide out and my meal ends up on my knees..... And would it hurt for the staff to bring the cutlery out with the meal. They literally have to walk past the cutlery station to you. I understand that a bistro area should hold the condiments and cutlery, but the 2 tables in the bistro area are often occupied by staff on lunch. It makes no sense. Other than that 5 stars all round.

Absolutely perfect for me! Visiting family and this Hotel was just down the street. Tom and other staff members were so helpful and polite. Our family ate dinner there on my last night, we all enjoyed it. Great Garden Bar too 💯😄

In my opinion, this has the best pub food of the strip of pubs from Bay Street to Foreshore Drive. My wife was skeptical but we put it to the test last night - best ribs she's tasted in years. Good casual atmosphere, good food, good selection of drinks. If you are after a traditional Aussie pub, this is hits the spot. When it's my turn to host catch-up drinks with former work colleagues, they always want to return to this pub in lieu of the others close by.

Fun for family & fur babies and friends meals good and affordable Sundays are fun days for children, and as word spreads it should grow. New chef so still a learning curve, looking foward to next time we travel overseas to going back

Stayed here on several occasions as handy to visiting relatives. Thought the room was very average room 8, and think it will be my last stay. Why give us tea and coffee and no milk? Aircon wouldn't heat on cold night.Bathroom looked unclean and small

We had a roast dinner here yesterday and the experience was very good. Very kid friendly and had the sport on for adults. The roast beef was very good, the Yorkshire puddings were overdone which is my only critique.

Great old charm hotel. Nice meal and cold beer. The person who attended us to check-in was very friendly and helpful.

Had lunch with a group of friends . The bar staff rudely approached us and told us we couldn’t eat at our table because it was a smoking area … even though we were not in the smoking area. Every time a staff member came through to the back fridge to retrieve food items for the kitchen , it smelt like a dead body. Would not recommend based off the horrendous service and smell.

Our stay here was wonderful, delicious food, the pub was very fun and familiar atmosphere and the rooms were very comfortable and spacious showers with hot water, all very clean. It was wonderful !!!

The room was spacious and clean, not to mention the great pricing point compared to other hotel rooms around. Easy access to public transport and many shops surrounding the motel. Also convenient for a meal or drink downstairs is a bonus. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Room very disappointing compared to photos. Our shower full of mould, toilet bowl inside dirty, not cleaned properly. No brush to clean either. Double room but only one cup supplied, TV remote didn’t work. Glad we only stayed one night. Had to keep the door closed not the best smell. I took photos but don’t allow uploading. Look for review on Google.

Lovely pub with a great garden at the back. Didn’t eat here but the food looked delicious.

Had 3-4 staff on one minute ,then 1 the next. I was waiting for that one staff member to serve me, but completely ignored me, not that I was invisible ,was wearing Hi Vis.Then he proceeded to serve the next 2 people that came to the bar. I complained, but bar person wasn't really interested, so my wife and I left, and went a few doors down to the Waterworks Hotel. The staff served us immediately, were very pleasant and professional . Unfortunately the Captain Cook Hotel not only let us down, but also themselves. Unbelievable. Not sure now whether or not my wife and I will return. Very disappointing.

Had to clean bathroom and shower because it was a bit mouldy but staff was very friendly and looked after us well. Food was also great with a good variety, rooms a bit small but all come with an enquire, great price and value for money.

Stayed only one night . Easy book in great food and beer was cold. Have stayed a few times here and will be back . Friendly staff very helpfull highly recommended. Close to lots of food outlets and other shops. Close to airport golf course. We stayed to go the golf

Nice place to spend time after work

Havnt stayed, just a local vising for a drink or dinner every now and then. This is the locals pub. Friendly staff and friendly locals, very welcoming place. Nice venue, clean and tidy with a nice outdoor area. Overall its the one I prefer in Botany. Pokies jackpots get up to 80k.. if your feeling lucky..

Dirt and disgusting rooms never clean and never vacuum the carpets don't look under the beds you want like what u see been coming here for years as a truck driver I have seen better roadhouses if u stay more than one night 🌙 you have to tell them to clean room

Thanks to all the staff at Captain Cook hotel who made our stay so great. They were absolutely fantastic. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Even though our room faced the main road I didn't hear any traffic noise or noise from guests in other rooms. Really handy location to get anywhere and easy street parking out the back. We never had issues parking. Also the food is really delicious. I will definitely visit again.

An underwhelming experience

Although it isn't my local, I drive a little further to get here for the chicken burgers, beers and the outdoor seating area.

I had dinner there, order a steak with mash and vegetables, the steak look like it was cooked on a old, not clean pan? Mash potato was fake, from Coles, add water powder packet, was not even the real deal, but a budget cheap mash, but they expect full price? Go elsewhere. ...Yes you do make fake mash, it tasted the same as add water from Coles, how do I know? 3 military personnel that was there with me, knew straight away it was fake mash. cause that's what we get in the military, your caught out, now your probably embarrassed, and Lie to discredit me. so let me guess, your now your going to make real mash? after being called out.. oh maybe your going to serve it to white people but the brown skin won't know, so they get the fake mash.. is why we didn't even finish the mash on our plates..

Recently stayed here for 2 nights. Staff were friendly and attentive. Accommodation was comfortable and more than enough for my needs. Surrounding shops had anything that I needed.

Beers are cold, burgers are awesome.. staff are friendly. Only reservation was mens room there air dryer was not working and there was no toilet roll holder so the roll was lying on the floor.

Unfortunately won’t be returning and would not recommend. Service was reasonable, but the food was terrible. My partner ordered steak (medium). I ordered a vegan mushroom burger. I was after a veg burger but that was the option. Meat was so overdone - like it’d been cooked, left aside and returned to the grill. Burger looked very sad indeed. The bun was so stale that it couldn’t be cut in half, and the filling was minimal and not fresh looking, covered with a lot of sauce. Fries were ok, hard to go wrong. Did not live up to the beautiful website that says “food focused” at the “highest possible standard”. Disappointing to say the least.

Great place. Genuinely. However, without fail whenever you order a buffalo chicken schnitzel all but one of the bar tenders will have heard buffalo chicken wings.

Food way too expensive and $10 beers! Just under $100 for Two. The local meeting place is now charging restaurant prices, and the demographics of botany would show people can’t afford it. Used to be a great dine out at affordable prices. Bring back Mr Ling to the kitchen..
