The food and drinks were not bad, but it felt like a very outdated hotel and could really do with an update and a renovation. Mainly oldies who went there because of this outdated feel

The Baxter Tavern is one of our family’s favorite spots—we go there at least once a month for lunch or dinner, and it never disappoints! The food is always amazing, with a great variety to choose from. What I love most is the atmosphere. It has that classic country pub feel, with décor that perfectly reflects it and open fireplaces that are especially cozy in winter. It’s such a welcoming and relaxing place to be. Most of the time, we enjoy our meals in the bistro, but every now and then, we’ll sit in the public bar where you’ll find a great vibe and friendly locals. If you’re looking for delicious food, a warm atmosphere, and genuine country pub charm, Baxter Tavern is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Had lunch here for a family birthday. First time I had been in years. All the meals were lovely and the staff were very nice. Will be back for sure.

Very nice place to go to

Called into the Baxter Tavern with family after going to the Funky Farm. We were too late for the lunch menu but were advised we could get pizzas in the gaming room. We had such a great experience. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we got lunch for our kids. The lady with short hair was super helpful bringing free chips while we waited for our pizzas. It was so nice to be treated so well and made to feel so welcome. Thank you.

Shame that it’s been taken over from when we last visited and now just seems to have lost its character. The bread rolls and soup that used to be complimentary are now charged at fifty cents a roll and are tiny, come on, seriously? The food was still great but the prices have been hiked up and now an expensive evening out. Sorry to say but we can’t afford your prices in these difficult times.

We used to love coming down here for a counter meal. The staff are friendly, the meals are good and the beer is cold. This time, however, we were at the bar twice, once to order a beer and the next time for food. Both times, despite being first to the bar, the staff served the locals first, even those that arrived well after we had been there. We even had one bloke walk right in front of us to bar staff and order, as if we weren't there. We won't be making the drive anytime soon.

Have been coming here for years. Staff. are always friendly but tonight we were very disappointed. On our last visit we had seniors meals and felt they were a little light on compared to previous times but weren’t really bothered until this visit when we found our seniors meals were quite a bit smaller than comparable standard priced meals. We realised this when the table next to us had the same meals but at standard price and were much larger meals! In the past seniors meals were the same as standard meals which was very good value but now we feel that they have made the meals smaller but don’t tell you.We are quite happy to pay full price for a full meal but feel this should be advertised.

Went there for the first time yesterday for a family get together. Very impressed. Bar service was great. Everyone enjoyed there food. It came out quickly and all at once. Would definitely recommend and go back

Had a meal last night 29/11. To say I was underwhelmed is an under statement. Porter house with chips $46.00 thinking at this price the plate would be full, left hungry should have looked at reviews before attending. Baxter pub off the list.Reading other reviews seems the kitchen hasn't caught onto the problem still.

Food is delicious and plenty of options. Good serving and you won't leave hungry.

Had a calamari entree in the public bar. It was $18. For the $18 I got six small pieces of calamari and six chips. I had heard good things about their meals and the other meals looked good however I feel that the charge for the entree was exorbitant considering what you got.

Went for lunch with my aunt, I couldn’t believe, that when I said my chicken wasn’t cooked right, they told me it was veins,, um what on a chicken breast, the over priced sloppy sauce and undercooked chicken and terrible salad with no taste, and still not apology or anything, but they kept the money, I hardly touched the chicken it was disgusting

Went for lunch and had Nasi Goreng which was okay but far better at other venues. Decor is very dated, furniture the same as in the 1980's; far more modern and stylish venues to choose from and prices are the same!

Friendly staff, food was good. Been to the grand, sophias and frankston rsl in the last few weeks, baxter definitely has the better meals.

Chicken tasted old, like it came from an old well aged chicken. Place has gone off since visit 3 yrs ago.

Friendly staff. The menu was a little bit limited due to covid and staff shortages but the meals that we ordered came quickly and were delicious. Update: of more recent times, I note that a surcharge is now applied to card usage. This on top of the fact that there is no seniors discount on certain items eg pizza. Do they think seniors don't eat pizza? Staff are still pleasant and the surroundings are roomy .

This is a great venue for a meal. The staff are welcoming and attentive to your needs. The menu has all the pub staple dishes as well as some specials. The homemade tomato soup was excellent. Saturday nite the place was packed and bookings are staggered. The venue is comfortable and not noisy, considering the number of patrons. We had an enjoyable nite here with friends.

Went for Dinner Sat night, was disappointed at the Roast meal we ordered, Minimal vegetables, 1 small roast chat potato, piece of corn on the cobb and 3 chunks of zucchini. For $28 would have expected at least greens and carrots May have to give them another chance. Staff were polite and friendly.

Very unformal staff approach as a waitress and gravy was off. Very poor take away container situation. Family cake had been handed to the front counter and poor attitude trying to retrieve the cake for a family members birthday. Would never have a family function here again. Very poor staff and very lousy. Update: Cake had been brought out. Thanks to staff however why would you give a stack knife to cut a cake. Making this visit very unforgiving

I have been coming here for years but I won't be coming here again. Value for money has lost its meaning. I ordered a MAIN calamari. It was $28. I thought they had given me the seniors meal as another person in my group had the same meal and it was a lot bigger. I asked for vegetables and got a few pieces of lettuce. I would not have worried if my meal was good value. The chef insisted he had served identical portions.. I don't mind that the meal was small as I'm not a big eater. I do mind that I paid for a main meal thinking that the entree size might be a bit too small. For 2 dollars more I could have had a delicious looking steak..

Great tavern feels, warm and welcoming, a mix of pub meets road side motel, staff are great, management have full control of the venue, and are attentive to customers requirements and concerns. A female manager(sorry did not get a name, short hair, about 5ft9 ish ) did an excellent job in removal of young guys when a verbal altercation broke out, amongst patrons. Like an instant security guard, she was amazing. Great place to chill for a drink, a meal or a quick visit to the pokies or a visit to the well stocked drive through bottle shop. Definitely worth a visit, meal, bottle shop run. …will be back

Possibly need to review treatment of customers, we went for a couple of drinks today by the open fire, nobody was at the door to direct us so we sat close to the fire but was told the tables were set for dinner so we couldn’t sit there, it was 3 pm We left and probably won’t go back Used to be a regular place but if it takes that long to reset a table they can’t cope with the additional patronage

I highly recommend the Baxter Tavern!! The customer service is second to none, and staff go above and beyond with a friendly and professional manner. The food is excellent and always cooked to perfection. You are offered a warm bread roll as well as access to their salad bar with a variety of salads to choose from. Overall, it is always an incredible dining experience.

Went with friends for lunch. I ordered fish and chips, expecting that it cannot be difficult to do well I was wrong: it was undercooked and oily. The salads offered from the fridge lacked variety and had to wait until staff had time to serve. The place looks friendly, but the shef needs to improve the quality of the preparation and presentation.

WARNING: Stay away from the seafood platter it was shockingly disgusting. You’re only as good as you seafood supplier Fresh food is everything when it comes to SEAFOOD. Take it off the menu, Chef. My experience wasn’t all bad. The beer was cold. Cozy atmosphere. And others at the party look like their some of there meals ware really nice like the chicken Parma and the steaks look damn nice

So COLD ……. I was there today, every diner had jackets coats and scarves on ,two open fires none lit ,it was so cold I didn’t eat or drink never ever again will I come back

Went for a spontaneous lunch with my partner and his support worker on Thursday 27/06/2024. Was a really nice place. Very nice country feel. Staff were very welcoming. Made room for my partner in his wheelchair, made sure we sat away from the draft from the door. Good was so so nice. Good variety on the menu and good specials. There is also a few nights a week that are a few nights a week that they have specials on, Parma night, Fish and Chips and Curry night. I got the Korean Rice Bowl, was a special on the day, I asked for extra chilli in it as I like it spicy, they added a nice amount. Disabled toilets are easy to access if your in a wheelchair. The only downfall I could find there wasn't much disabled parking were I parked, not sure if there was some in a different area. Will be going back again with a group of friends. Good car park. Lovely big dining rooms, a bit disappointed that in the middle of winter, the open fire was not being used. Service ok as it was a very busy lunchtime. Roast Pork and vegetables good.

The atmosphere was lovely with live music. There was a good variety of food options and I managed to find something I could eat being gluten and lactose intolerant and vegetarian with a bit of wrangling. Highly recommend.

Usually the food is great. The roast of the day was pork. It was very thinly sliced but still tough and dry. The apple sauce was dry and tasteless. There were chilli flakes all through the veggies. I was looking forward to the garlic prawns but was very disappointed. Who puts chilli flakes all over garlic prawns?! All through the rice, on the veggies, everywhere! The chef may have thought it was putting his own stamp on them, it did, but they were not nice at all.

My parents had dinner on Tuesday night.my mum had fish and chips,the fish had bones in it.my dad had the lambs fry and had diarrhoea for the next 2 days.

My friend and myself went there last night, we both had a porterhouse steak, we were very surprised at the price of $46 for a porterhouse but thought it must be very good as $46 for a pub steak is expensive. Both ordered medium rare which it definitely wasn't, was overcooked plus very chewy, very disappointing. We could of taken it back but we didn't have the time to wait. It's a lot of money for a meal that wasn't very enjoyable.

I would give it zero if it was possible. $30 for Parma with chips. Comes with no salad. It was the most processed over cooked schnitzel I've ever eaten. The cheese was just a.lightly melted oil slop. No flavour. A 12 year kid in home economics would cook a better microwaved Parma. And when we mentioned it to the staff. The response we got was we serve 330 people". Who ever cooked it should maybe reconsider their career."

My wife and I stayed at the the Baxter Tavern for three nights in October 2023 as we have good friends who live a short walk away. The tavern itself is pleasant. The food was fine and the staff were friendly. However, the rooms were disgustingly dirty. We had stayed there previously and ended up having to walk across the train tracks to Woollies for cleaning supplies. When my wife booked for our October stay she tried to explain how dirty the room was on our previous visit and asked if it could be cleaned properly before we arrived. The person who took the call didn't seem to be that interested. We planned ahead and brought cleaning products with us, thankfully, and before we could relax we had to dust, clean toilets, shower and floors as well as the kitchenette area - including the kettle and utensils. The dust was so thick on the pelmet and the lights above the bed, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. We only stayed there for convenience's sake but would not recommend unless they make serious changes to their cleaning protocol. The rooms are basic and inexpensive, but you should expect them to at least have been dusted, mopped and the surfaces wiped. The best we can say is that the sheets were clean. EDIT: I appreciate the response from the Baxter Tavern owners and I'd also like to make it clear that our issues were only related to the accommodation - as I said the tavern itself, its amenities and the service staff were all great - no complaints whatsoever and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place for a good meal and some cold drinks.
