We enjoyed our stay here. Our room was a bit dated, but large and had everything we needed. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant on the ground floor has delicious food at good prices. The bar is pretty small.

Our group The Central Victorian Ulysses Motorbike Riders , had a great time at the Hotel with fantastic friendly staff, great meals and comfortable accommodation, if we come back to Hobart we will be back for sure, thank you for making our time here enjoyable 😀🏍

Wasn't the worst meal I've had but not far from it

Had a booking tonight and to start with was impressed a locals meal available at a cheaper price, as a group with budgets to consider- unfortunately this is all I was impressed by. Poor service, waited an hour for very basic meals and only received when asking how far they were. Staff couldn't answer questions about food nor interested to find out. Cleared the table ourself to be able to have cake. When asking for the cake staff said we had to pay a fee for this - but when I booked the table they told me they didn't charge for that but that changed tonight at time of service. Then when wanting the box back it had been hacked to get the cake out. Sadly we would regularly go for meals and celebrations and being local we wouldn't return here due to lack of service.

Really big rooms. Balcony. Not at night if there is a function but otherwise quiet. Great location. Two minute drive to north Hobart. Five minute drive to the wharf. Friendly staff. Great view of the mountain. Big bathrooms

Great quiet area to stay in Hobart, within walking distance to North Hobart - had dinner and dessert a few times downstairs in the pub which was great. Very friendly service and clean room throughout our stay. Budget friendly with parking available for hire cars

Amazing hotel with friendly staff, easy check-in and a spacious, clean room, quiet away from the city noise, the restaurant down stairs had plenty to choose from on the menu with gluten free options, the meals were delicious and served quickly, you even get a discount on meals/drinks for staying with them, overall a fantastic stay and we will be back

Being a budget hotel, it sort of is value for money but the rooms are totally outdated and not very clean. The bathtub had hair stuck to the walls and the carpet looked like it has never been cleaned.

This was a great option for Queen's Domain Parkrun, as the start was less than a kilometre away, along a bush trail. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel was a bit old, but I didn't mind the old-fashioned look-and-feel so much. At least it was clean and the staff were friendly. Because the accommodation is over a restaurant and a pub, you do get some noise when you're in the rooms upstairs, but it's nothing too excessive.

Worst stay ever. Everyone in the family were suffering with dust allergies and throat pain. Even the basic needs like kettle weren’t there.

Just wanted to say a huge shout out to the lovely staff at the black buffalo hotel, my partner was feeling sick from a stomach bug and the staff made sure that she had plenty of cold water and really went above and beyond. Our stay was also really nice but a huge emphasis on the lovely staff, couldn’t recommend this stay enough

Excellent meals great service

We enjoyed our stay here throughout our time in Tasmania. The room was big and had a lovely view, it was very quiet. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant for a couple of nights during our stay and loved the food! Staff were great at the restaurant too.

This was a disappointing stay to say the least. The beds were clean and comfortable and a staff member in the restaurant on friday night were the highlight. We had no hot water for showers on either morning, even after reporting it to bar staff as no other contact available. No phone in room to contact them - even in emergency. Meals on Saturday night were slow. Waiting for 1 hr with young children for chicken and chips is beyond rediculous. To finish we were asked to pay a $20 cackage fee just to provide 6 plates and a knife, seriously? This is way beyond usual charge of other establishments.

Stayed one night got a discount on meals ,friendly atmosphere ,customer service great and the meals were absolutely beautiful,would highly recommended this venue.

Bad food, bad service, bad pokies! Had a chicken parmi that was over cooked and had massive chunks of onion in the sauce, along side burnt chips. Then waited 5 mins to get money for the pokies while the staff just stood around texting on there phones, then lost all my money on the pokies! What a bad night

I like peas, but didn't really enjoy peas with my barramundi. The service was great however. I'd go back!

Dropped by the Black Buffalo with my husband for dessert. The Buff Taster has become an absolute favourite. So delicious and a great price. Have told all our friends about this place. The staff are super friendly and help where they can.

Staying in the Hotel and thought we would dinner downstairs. I didn’t make a booking and still the girl at the front made room for us on a busy Saturday night. Incredible service, food and friendliness. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Nice facilities and Experience

Had dinner and the food was absolutely fantastic 😋

Just in town for a day so dropped in for dinner tonight and food was just lovely. Softest brisket and lamb shoulder. Such a flavourful fettucine cream sauce (they didnt have it, so replaced it with spaghetti). The staff were absolutely helpful.

Reception closed at check-in time consequently a queue at bar which was very slow. Almost 30 min to get room key. Attending a function in house so it wasn't like they didn't know people would be arriving. Food was great. A small elevator would be good for older upstairs guests.

Fantastic staff, excellent service and food. Great patrons. Nice quiet rooms.

I have been to Black Buffalo several times (upward of 20/30) since moving to New Town and have never had any major issues (I wouldn’t keep going back) But tonight changed that, I had booked online for 6:15 and upon arriving (we were 10 mins early) but we were told that they had “forgotten” about our booking for 9 Things just went down hill from here, our meals took forever and when they came they weren’t correct (lovely staff member went above and beyond to ensure this was fixed I didn’t catch her name) But the food was a solid 4/10 tonight, the beef and Guinness pie was the only thing that was fully eaten everything else was very unlike the usual meals at buffalo. When I spoke to staff about our extensive wait times and meals, she was very sorry and had refunded one of the meals (as it had been sent out wrong, and then forgotten about it did not come out for an hour and 15 min) Will take some time away from here but as I’ve said this was the first time it has been bad enough to give a negative review. As stated the woman was fabulous just seemed to be very understaffed, but she was trying her best running meals, taking/making drinks, the poor bugger didn’t stop. EDIT TO ADD we paid a $20 cake fee which I thought was crazy I was expecting $10 but all I wanted was some plates and a knife in the end after all of the muck up we took the cake home and got a refund on the $20

The Black Buffalo was a great place to stay. The room was comfortable and had ample extras for our stay. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We were offered a 15% discount card for the restaurant, but didn't end up eating there. It's only 2k's from Hobart city, Salamanca Markets and 1k from numerous restaurants and cafe's.

Rooms where old and outdated, bed wasn't too comfortable, our room had a strange odour. Good location free parking, 10 dollar uber to constitution wharf Club resturant was okay priced food and reasonably tasty

I went to a wedding that was heard in function room it had a bar and meals very nice place services were great it's a great place if you want to hold a birthday or wedding party go check it out for your self

Seafood fettucini was over cooked, very gluggy and apparently they omitted the fish. Gave us a refund which was good of them.

Went in for a pub meal with my brother to check it out. Hadn't eaten here before so was interested to see what they had on offer. On entering we were met with very friendly staff. The place was neat and clean and on this occasion not overly busy. Decided to try something different from the usual Parmy or Schnitzel so settled on the Beef & Gusiness Pot Pie with mash and vegetables (did take photos but for some reason I'm not able to post them on this review). With a drink it came to about $29. The food was served in fairly quick time. I felt the pot pie was a little lacking but not terrible. The mask and vegetables were fine. My brother opted for the chicken Grilled Ceasar Salad which seemed to be far better value. As I didn't stay the night I can't comment on the hotel rooms but this place has been established for a long time and they seem to have the place well organised. Plenty of free parking onsite makes it very convenient.

Allan checked us in and he had just walked in the door to start work. Didn't make us wait and helped us right away! Sharon in gaming was really lovely, talkative and made me feel welcome in the gaming room. Allan served us in the bistro and was very accommodating and polite. Food was nice and came it quickly.

One of the most pleasant experiences l have had recently. The meals are huge. Talk about value for money, and tasted even better. The staff were absolutely amazing. Extremely helpful, friendly and courteous. Thank you one and all for a wonderful experience.

Went for our families Christmas eve dinner. Fantastic food, fun and brilliant service, all well priced we will definitely be back.

Boy how things can go down hill from my last review Today 13th December the meal was abysmal cold vegetables and Luke warm fish compared to last time, maybe new chef!! My friends and I had lunch at your restaurant yesterday 24th March and great meals Our waitress should have a special mention such a lovely smiling girl who was so welcoming and helpful Makes such a difference to be attended to by friendly obliging staff

Food here is very good. Typical, higher end counter meals. Accommodation is adequate. Unfortunately a fire alarm was triggered somewhere nearby our room at 2am and kept going for over an hour which made the night fairly ordinary.
