Good pub with a nice view by the beach

The place was a bit odd. We went on a Tuesday so it was quiet, but there was no music or anything so it was dead quiet. We had Parmas which weren't bad. The service was very strange, people didn't really speak to us much but they were nice. Overall, wouldn't necessarily be it itching to go back, however we don't feel like we wasted our money either.

Went here impromptu because we like to try pubs in the area - food is a little on the higher price but pretty standard for most pubs, however it was actually all really delicious! We got the minute steak which came with fries and a salad, all of it was full of flavour. We also got the prawns as an entre wich was soooo yummmmm, the oil was delish! I had a margarita cocktail which was a bit average but would defs come back here for a quick pub meal! All the staff were super friendly and attentive ! Made a lovely experience especially close to the beach. Atmosphere was a bit loud with other people but the rest of our experience was great!

It had become one of my favourite local spots that I go every 2 weeks!! 🥂🍹🍺 Food is always consistently great and the vibe inside is just great!! I prefer to sit on the other side to enjoy my food and drinks away from the TVs but if you follow sports this is perfect for you! Love the variety of drinks and food, staff members are always so helpful and kind!! Order the hand-cut chips, I have to get it every time just blew my mind!

Great value for money minute steak option on the menu. Good location for watching sport and the tennis this time of year. Enjoyed a private booth with some friends. Reasonable priced menu and bar menu. Good staff, helpful and informative. Will return here in the future

Steak night is amazing. Perfectly cooked. The steaks are all very consistent. Staff service was also excellent.

Food good service good, value great, had an interesting chap that basically asked us after being seated by staff for our booking, , how about communication with your staff and at 715 told us we had 15 minutes to vacate, booking was for 630 What a tool, never again for me, but I’m sure I want be missed Seeya Rohan

Always good food and service

We had our Business’ Xmas party here at the Bleakhouse last night. Can I just say own easy this was. From the moment I reached out to Ella in Events - to the night where Ferenc, Noah and Lucy (just brilliant service..from them) looked after us. Food was incredible..service was sensational. Views amazing. I think we have may have just found a new tradition - Xmas at the Bleakhouse.

Ridiculously awesome roast deal, delicious late lunch which I enjoyed in their cozy terrace across the beach. Enormous portion came out very fast, fair price for such meal. Staff working here s lovely and welcoming, I m definitely coming back to try oysters Fridays!

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a spicy margarita crafted by an incredibly skilled bartender Hugo and it was hands down the best I've ever had. The balance of heat and flavour was perfect; the chilli flakes added just the right kick without overpowering the fresh lime juice and quality tequila. You could tell the bartender took great care in mixing the drink, from the choice of ingredients to the presentation. The rim was perfectly salted, enhancing every sip. Each drink was a refreshing blend of spice and citrus that left me wanting more. If you're looking for a standout cocktail experience, I highly recommend seeking out this bartender. Their talent and passion for mixology truly shine through in every spicy margarita!

Just a few minutes walk from the south Melbourne beach this place is great to have some drinks and catch up with friends. I tried their Tuesday special chicken parma and a jug of tropicana. I loved the tropicana. It tasted refreshing, and the parma was juicy. However, the only thing I'll recommend is to salt the fries so they don't taste so bland. If you're at the beach next time then do give them a try. They're just a minute away from the tram stop.

Our first dinner at Bleakhouse Hotel. The outside can be deceiving but enter in and you'll find a sexy looking bar with a warm environment. The hire was on. The food was absolutely yummy. I highly thorns this place. The stuff were honest and friendly. A really welcoming place. We're new to the area and are keen to try all the pubs and restaurants in the area but I can see us coming back to bleakhouse and it will become an old favourite" very quickly. Love the name... if you know Dickens. Oh and before I forget the prices are incredibly reasonable too which is important in today's financial climate. Who wants to go out on a Friday night for a quick and easy meal that costs in excess of $200 for 2? Not me!!! Go... do yourself a favour... run to Bleakhouse Hotel and enjoy...bon appetit 😁"

Fun night and great atmosphere with really lovely staff. They were the greatest!!

no descriptions or ingredient list for cocktails anywhere on the menu, website or social media, i used to be a bartender and even though they’re traditional cocktails 1, everyone makes them different and 2, barely 2% of the population know the ingredients. “POS was playing up” and i stood there for 10 minutes waiting for service from what looked like a 12 year old who had no idea what he was doing. i totally understand there are people learning and they’re always welcome but no one was there to coach him. VERY loud atmosphere, can’t hear the person next to you. when i did get my “cocktails” they tasted like box juice and sugar syrup with more ice than an esky bag. just sharing my experience in hopes you can improve the experience of future patrons.

We had our Birthday Party up stairs in the Function room and it could not have been more perfect. The staff, the food and the amazing view made is a very memorable day . I highly recommend this venue for your next function.

We had an event out the back and must say it was a large area with a big sunny court yard Have been to this pub before but never knew this area was there - it was a great place for a function and I must say the court yard was big and totally so lovely ! Be a great place for a drink on a sunny day The food was good and lots of it ….service was excellent too

We had a milestone birthday celebration at the Bleakhouse and it was fabulous. The food was great (my only reservation is that we would have preferred more food earlier, there appeared to be a small delay). The quality of food and beverage were outstanding and the service and attention to detail was great. A special thanks to Ferenc & Kate who helped pull it together, and James & James, Tom & Lucy and Lottie and Lola who looked after us during the day. I would definitely recommend the Bleakhouse a superb location for an event (or just pop in for lunch or dinner and soak in the view). Thanks team Bleakhouse

Just celebrated my partner's birthday at the splendid Bleakhouse pub. The views over the sea were incredibly beautiful and we could watch the ships coming into the port. We had rented the Garden room and it was beautifully set up by James. We received a warm and gracious welcome by Ferenc and our waitress, Lola, was attentive and helpful throughout the afternoon. We dined well and all our guests were all keen to rent the room for their own events. It's great value and the team there are fantastic. Thank you!!

The food is great and the prices are good for the quality you get, what sets it apart is the exceptional staff and the service they offer. It’s always warm and welcoming and they treat you like a person not a number. Kudos to everyone that works here, keep it up.

Fast service and great views friendly staff food was huge and good selection of drinks with a good bartender when we where there all 3 of us are bartenders so we get judgy

We hired the back bar and courtyard area for our engagement party (>120 guests). The lead up and planning with Katie was seamless, they were flexible working with both us and our vendors directly. On the day Ferenc looked after our event, we had so many great comments about the food and venue. He kept us up to speed throughout the night and the next day had everything packed and ready to go. He didn’t stop, he was awesome. We would absolutely recommend the great team at the Bleakhouse for your next event!

The Bleakhouse Hotel was our chosen place to host our daughter’s 21st birthday celebration, it was perfect. Situated in an ideal location, the venue provided exactly what we were looking for. Came as a group of 4, chicken salad was delicious, burgers and fish and chips also ordered all was delicious, great atmosphere.

My parents held a retirement evening for 60 guests at Bleakhouse Hotel. The event was perfect, Ferenc and his team made sure everything was taken care of with ease. We’re very thankful and would highly recommend the Bleakhouse for any function. Specific mention of Ferenc who really went above and beyond for us.

I had the most delicious barramundi on my first visit to the Bleakhouse! What a find! Staff were friendly and a great atmosphere. Will make time to pop in again one day.

Large beachfront pub located across the road from South Melbourne beach. Offering a cosy atmosphere on a cold autumn evening, meals are reasonably priced - I had the porterhouse steak and it was cooked to perfection. Medium number of beers and cider on tap. Offers a traditional public bar where kids are welcome as well as a more formal sit down dining room. A short trip from the city on the number 1 tram.

We booked a table for 10 for lunch on Anzac Day. We were greeted by friendly staff who immediately made us feel welcome. The service was first class. All of the meals were delicious and cooked to perfection. The standout was the Portuguese Chicken who my wife said was the best pub meal she has had for a very long time. Another on our table also had this dish and declared it as sensational. We will definitely be back and hopefully the Portuguese Chicken will still be on the menu. All of us would highly recommend the Bleakhouse

Been here twice and had amazing service, food is on point if not better than what you would expect! And the biggest selling point is, the bay view is amazing!!! I want to go back at night to get a full idea of the vibe.

For the food we ordered the chips with aioli, salt and calamari and the weekend roast. The chips were great. I didn’t order the calamari, but other than the small portion size they were pretty good. The roast was honestly not the best, the meat was good but the selection of vegetables with the sauce just did not suit the meal. I didn’t like it but I could see what they were trying to do with it. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very nice. I would come back here but I wouldn’t get the same meals.

Had lunch here, ordered the Lamb Roast off the specials board. Generous serve and the lamb was tender and delicious. The olive teppinade instead of the traditional mint sauce was a very nice variation. Great surrounds/decor and an outdoor area out back. Pokies and TAB tucked away in the back rooms. Price compatible with other pubs and the bonus is the beach view our the front windows.

Been in this pub quite a few times now, it's a really cool place opposite the beach.. Bright and airy with a good vibe. Eaten here a couple of times, the food is OK, nothing amazing but quite expensive, I guess you pay for location. The thing that really let's the place down is the staff, they're mostly young and trendy and good looking. That's all well and good as far as it goes but they spend most of the time chatting to each other, it seems they're doing us paying customers a favour by serving us. Even as they're preparing the drinks their attention is on chatting to their friends. The drink is on the bar they press the buttons on the machine and walk away to continue their conversation. There's absolutely ZERO interaction with the customer.. I hope the owner of this bar reads this review and perhaps introduces a little staff training on the niceties of customer service. It really does make a HUGE difference to us paying customers.

I had 21 guests for lunch at Bleakhouse on Sunday last.(My 80th birthday), All of us were very happy with the share plates of beautiful food and the room set up as well as Ellie the waitress who looked after us very well.

Nice big open space with quick, friendly service. Additional booth style seating is comfortable and gives you an option to sit away from those solely drinking. Plenty of space outdoors as well with some protection from the elements and a cordoned off smoking/vaping area. Great for a weekend lunch by the bay.
