ABOUT US: WHERE THE NSW OUTBACK MEETS LUXURY
From the late 1800s onwards, for almost a century, the Mt. Gipps Hotel brought together fascinating adventurers from far and wide who shared stories of their NSW Outback travels. With a cold drink in hand and red dust on their boots, this Broken Hill hotel hosted visitors ranging from explorers and soldiers to miners and artists.
The Mount Gipps Hotel closed in 1987, remaining silent for three decades. However, in 2018, this historic venue was revived as the Broken Hill Outback Resort, blending modern amenities with the rugged charm of Outback NSW. After years of neglect, the heritage building has been restored to its former glory and now serves as the centerpiece of this new Broken Hill accommodation.
The resort features:
- A restaurant catering for up to 300 guests
- A bar and bistro
- Plans for a day spa and galleries showcasing local artists
Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Barrier Ranges, the resort is located just 14 kilometres outside the bustling city of Broken Hill, offering a serene escape.
Accommodation Options
- Deluxe Cabins: Self-contained and luxurious
- Caravan Park:
- 80 grassed powered caravan sites
- 20 grassed unpowered caravan or camping sites
Camping guests can enjoy:
- A brand-new camp kitchen
- A high-spec, disabled-friendly amenities block
- Laundry facilities
- Access to the luxurious amenities and rich heritage of the Mt. Gipps Hotel
On-Site Activities
- Art classes with talented local artists, including indigenous art

We liked the spa but the internet doesn't work
Top place to stay. Top food and great atmosphere
Great place, friendly helpful staff awesome food and rooms are fantastic highly recommended staying here
We stayed on-site in our caravan for 4 nights. This place has a great friendly manager (Matt), bar and restaurant on site and the food was lovely. It is 13 km from town, has good drinking water and amenities are terrific. Thanks Broken Hill Outback Resort. Loved our stay and would recommend highly to anyone going though the area.
12 km outside town, but best place hands down. And it's got it's own Pub.
Everything was nice and clean staff were nice and helpful the only downfall was the pub food understaffed and order was made wrong but we got a refund in the end so very pleased 😊
Top destination for a night over in Broken Hill. If you are travelling with your car, the town centre is about 10 min drive to the West. I’ve spent a lovely time there. The most spectacular camping showers I’ve ever seen! The staff were awesome, the camp site well maintained. I’ve really appreciate that they let me park in a different spot to get a bit more shade. Thank you
I stayed here for a night on my way back to Adelaide. Very nice place. Clean room with a good view. Very good size bathroom with good water pressure. Very comfortable clean bed. Good view of back deck. The only bad thing is if you're with optus, there is absolutely no reception in the rooms. Unfortunately I did not go to their restaurant but it smelt and looked awesome
Lovely resort just outside of Broken Hill. A real oasis in the desert. The most stunning views from the cabins. All the amenities you would want. The rooms were a lovely surprise as they were far better than expected. Modern and clean. Icy cold air con. Fast check in. Restaurant on site and bar. In the off season so a few things out of stock in the restaurant but staff were very accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here. I imagine it would get very busy in the tourist season!
Loved staying at the outback resort. The restaurant served up some great food, and the staff were very helpful!
The bathtub and the views were great, but that's pretty much where the positives end. Our bed linens had weird stains and glue on them, and the bed was full of bedbugs. I had to lay my towel over the bed linens to get any shut-eye. The outdoor deck was not cleaned at all and was pretty much unusable. The deck had a BBQ that still had pieces of meat on it. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. It's a shame because the dessert views were great, but not worth the hassle.
Lovely oasis short drivecto Broken Hill. Grass sites and large amenities
The King Room with Spa is huge - great size, bed is super comfortable, spa worked perfectly and your own private balcony is a bonus. The balcony did need a very thorough clean out of spider webs on the furniture and the bbq could do with a hose down too. I wasn't fussed with the dust because you expect that in the outback. Their on-site restaurant is idyllic - very reasonably priced food & drinks, and even though we stayed in a room we could see that campers have amazing facilities too. The staff did an awesome job holding down the fort over the Christmas period - we saw a lot of convoys arrive from Christmas day and they did their best with the staff numbers versus customers.
I wish I could give this place a higher rating. 5 stars just is not enough. Absolutely beautiful place, beyond amazing staff and service, extremely clean, bar and bistro was nothing short of incredible. Would highly recommend to absolutely anyone and everyone who is heading this way to check them out. Just wish I didn’t live so damn far away!
Beautiful, newly renovated, great atmosphere and stunning views. Serves cold beers, pizza, salad and lots more.
This place is amazing. We went on a road trip to Broken Hill and spent 4 days here. It's 20 minutes from the town but it has the best pub and restaurant in any caravan park I've ever stayed at. The amenities are second to none. It was a long way for us to travel but I will return one day! I give this place a score of 100 out of 10!!
Awesome
What a great way to see out the year whilst travelling! The food was delicious! (probably the best Chicken meals my husband and I have had in a long time). The rooms are great, spacious (fantastic for travelling with little ones) & ours had an awesome surprise of a bath with a gorgeous outback view. The staff are friendly and helpful… Can’t really ask for more than that 👌
Wow! What a fabulous place to stay. The bathroom is immaculate and we loved the personal vanity in each shower. The lawned sites are lovely and the place feels like a little oasis in the middle of the harsh landscape. The pub on site is gorgeous and has great food and drinks. Highly recommend!
Great location, friendly staff. Clean and modern amenities. The only let down was they seemed understaffed in the kitchen which ment very long waits for food. Unfortunately food was cold but tasty. Staff were very friendly
Guys… if you’re going to have a pub at least have a decent selection of drinks during the holidays and people are visiting. Maybe don’t put private owned beers in a public bar fridge if they aren’t for sale?! Pizza was average.
Beautiful caravan park! Super clean & brand new amenities! Lawn was lovely for the dogs to stretch their legs. Service was fantastic, shall be staying here again on our return trip.
Everything from a glance is good until you order food and find out time and time again that they don’t have stock for many of the dishes. They were so understaffed and the place was full so hours before our meal was served. The owners are obviously trying to save money and don’t see the opportunity they have to provide a location and place that is so different to anywhere else. Disappointed to be honest and it’s my third and maybe my last visit.
We had a car Ava site
Beautiful place to stay. Large grassed van plots. Superb views. If there was a pool to get away from the heat, it would be 5 stars without a thought
Gorgeous quiet surroundings, drive through grass site. Amazing amenities with bench and sink 8n each shower
We stayed in the camp site on this new resort about 12 km east of Broken Hill. The resort has cabins and van sites with power and water. Coupled with a bar and restaurant this is a great place to overnight or longer stay. The shower and toilet facilities are among the best we have had during this 2 and 1/2 month trip. There is a large camp kitchen which is well equipped.
The most beautiful place. You experience the outback in luxury. Great restaurant and service was brilliant. Will definitely come again and stay longer. Cabins had the most comfortable bed ever and even the shower was enjoyable with a fabulous view.
Lovely ambient place to stay with quality facilities and fantastic restaurant. We stayed here with our two children in a powered site. Had beautiful views over the desert, stunning sunsets and incredible starry skies. Was so lovely to enjoy a drink at the restaurant watching the sunset - great pizzas too. Also appreciated the private sinks and taps in the shower area. - very handy with kids. The kids appreciated watching all the cockatoos and galahs in the trees and the families of wild goats that roam along the outskirts of the campsite.
Grate camping/caravanning spot. Out of town a few kilometres but well worth it. The sites are grassy and level and the facilities are ultra modern. Showers have a personal sink and dressing area and are very clean. We didn’t eat at the restaurant so can’t comment. Price was $40 per night for a powered site. I have stayed at a lot of caravan parks and would highly recommend this one.
What a way to end your day! We drove out to this resort late evening for pizza and it was worth it. The staff were super accommodating as we arrived two minutes before the kitchen closed but they still made our pizza, which was absolutely delicious. We sat outside on the many tables and soaked up the breathtaking region. Unfortunately we didn't stay at this property but based on what I saw, I would recommend it for future travellers.
Luxury accommodation in the outback, but not too far from town.
Beautiful spot after travelling, staff wonderful ,had a dinner Ribs fantastic, barra also great definitely would come back ,a must stay if you are passing through Broken Hill
Very comfortable park with amazing facilities. Unfortunatley our stay was ruined by the park not either been unaware or did not care about allowing a van with 2 women and 2 very very angry cattle or similar, dogs. We asked the owners several times to restrain their dogs with no response. Our dog was 10 metres away but they had at least 10metre rope on them. Whenever any dog walked past them they ran out to obviously attack it. We only stayed overnight so we could'nt tell the park owners. Some people just spoil it for everybody.
Really well set out with great gardens. Food at the pub was excellent.
We chose a cabin when staying at the outback resort. The views from the cabin are amazing. We stayed 5 nights and were looked after well by housekeeping staff. Being just out of Broken Hill was great. Just a quick trip in.Its a good base to venture out to Silverton, Menindee, Mundi Mundi lookout etc after seeing all there is to see in Broken Hill. It was great having the pub onsite at the resort for afternoon drinks before we had dinner in the restaurant. We found all staff very pleasant and they all worked so hard and kept smiling.
Need bank loan that expensive
Great little park out of town. Basic caravan site and clean amenities. Excellent service from all the staff we encountered, super friendly and genuine. Great little bar and restaurant where the food was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.
Clean and everything is onsite licensed restaurant
Something different for people of b/hill to experience looks amazing.
We have had a amazing time at this resort not far out of brokenhill, the facilities for the caravanpark are outstanding, spacious sites, spotless toilets fully recommend cheers 😊😎👍👍
Love the atmosphere here, it's a great place to relax enjoy a drink and a meal and people watch. The staff are so friendly and very helpful
After 20000km and 6 months on the the road, very very average. First the site they have me despite there being 90% empty in that area was completely mud. I moved to a green site then let me them know. Ate in their restaurant, and the special, meal (curry) for $35 rediculous, it was in a tiny breakfast bowl. Chalk this one up to a Dud and places time avoid.
Great place around 10-15 min out of Broken Hill off the main road. Spa room was just what I needed after an 8 hour drive, views into the outback are stunning, spacious room full of amenities and comfy bed, only little issue I had with my room was the spider webs in every corner of the room, didn’t ruin my stay though.
We can’t believe how much this park has slipped. It’s obviously there’s little monies going back into the business, this park has been there long enough to have the following improvement );|1) Sealed road |2) pool |3) solar light |4) shade trees|5) drive through sites just to mention a few||The (wording resort) must have benefit to save wages?because it no resort|Price was good|Meals were great|But until you start reinvesting back into your business people will continue to use show ground and free camping areas.
This resort is absolutely fantastic, the amenities were very clean and very modern the park is well maintained and having a pub on the premises is a plus the meals were excellent and the pizza was awesome and available all day , the camp kitchen was very modern and the best I’ve ever come across, the staff are amazing and very friendly this place is a must stay.
Looks like a luxury resort on the advertising but sadly the rooms are in need for a renovation. Terrible Wifi and very little mobile reception out here. Restaurant has good meals if you don’t wish to drive to Broken Hill.
The amenities were the best we have seen. The sites were grass not gravel and a really good size. The camp kitchen was well set out. the restaurant served pizza as well as a good menu. The staff were friendly, could not have asked for more. The book for 4 nights, pay for 3 was a bonus. The park is on the side of the highway with the train line across th road, neither the road noise or the train affected us. We would stay again.
Nice place to stay. Well kept and a nice pub attached. Reasonable prices for the location.
Lovely caravan park with great amenities.|Lovely pub attached and friendly accomodating staff. Things the second time we have stayed there.. safe as houses and very enjoyable. A little out of town and this is not a bad thing. Quick drive in to get anything you need or pick it up on the way through |Highly recommend
Great place to stop and unwind . Staff very helpful and friendly. Cabins clean and a decent size. Loved the bathroom, have a shower looking out the window at the scenery. Meals were great and a good size, beer and wine cold. Loved it.
This park is not that old and is going downhill in a hurry. Maintenance is lacking simply cleaning cob webs and dust of walls in ammenities, mixer tap in shower came off in hand. We eat at most restaurants when staying in parks that provide food. Menu was good and we love our lamb shanks so it was a no brainer. Menu advertised slow cooked lamb shanks we got one so why the “S”.|Meal was cool when served and the shank was as dry as beef jerky (no joke)|So advertised as six hour slow cooked and probably was yesterday and again today.
A quiet caravan park just on the edge of town. Nice sunrise views, lots of space, and friendly staff.
Great place to stay. We stayed there for 4 nights in our caravan. Shower and toilet facilities are great, lots of hot water and very clean. Good laundry, dryer wasnt working, but didn't affect us, as weather was fine and very windy, which helped with drying of the washing. We had a grass site, they are big, easy to park the caravan and room for the ute on the site also. Internet connection not that great, but after all we were in the Outback, so we expected this.Would definitely stay again.
Great park with all facilities.
Stayed in one of the cabins. Fantastic facility. Great location. Clean as a whistle. Great lookout over the ranges... and a few roaming goats. Will definitely use this as our go to next time we are in Broken Hill.
Stayed here in the caravan park and it is excellent. Pub and meals on site. Lots of grassy sites and the amenities are near new. About 15km out of Broken Hill but very cost competitive. Only negative is the WiFi and phone are patchy at best.
Great place,frienly staff,loved it
Fantastic location, friendly staff and good food. We used the caravan park and it was fantastic to have green grass and very clean amenities. Having a beautifully restored pub and restaurant here was a wonderful bonus. Well done guys
Amazingly clean, great views from the toilet and shower of the Outback, the rooms had everything and was very clean and spacious for our family of 5x. We loved staying here and wished we stayed just a few extra days on our trip from Sydney to Perth
Good overnight stop on way to Mundi great facilities
We stayed at the Outback Resort for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely and clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower had excellent water pressure. We also had dinner at the onsite restaurant, the food was good although it did take a while to arrive. Would definitely stay again.
Great caravan park just 14 kms out of Broken Hill. Good sized sites. Great bistro & bar.
Is a great place to stay good clean rooms n excellent bar n restaurant n good food...staff friendly n helpful I stayed up all.4 nites n atn2 different times a week apart n enjoy our stay.. but 13 k.East of Broken Hill...not a problem if you got a vehical. Typical.gorgeous outback.views n.only 1 k from.Broken Hill Huge dam covering big area..
Wow! Nice open spot for caravans, MH, camping and just a perfect stop over for the night, and you just can't leave, you would want to stay another night or so. The restaurant is right at the front, the amenities are awesome, the manager is very friendly and accommodating, in winter, as soon as the fire pit start, the manager MATT will be coming to join the guests with something yummy to share.
Nice, but I found their menu was limited.
Meals are good, staff are friendly, fire is nice and warm
Nice safe well maintained caravan park just out of town, good food, cold beer
Great place, welcoming staff, pub is awesome, amenities are another level, sites are good & grassed. We only stayed overnight & decided to have dinner, this was the only issue as it took an hour to arrive & was pretty much cold, luke warm at best. We would definitely stay again though.
Great park. Great staff. Pizzas were awesome. Loved the communal fire pit and happy hour nibbles. Ask to be away from amenities due to generator. Amenities are great. Highly recommend this place
What an amazing place! Stunning facilities, and very friendly staff! Thanks team!!
Overpriced for what you get in a cabin. Very basic for the money. Stained carpet, holes in the wall, Understaffed and hard to get served. Asked for butter to put on the corn and we were told that they don’t have any. Crispy skin salmon with no skin. Self serve food or once it is finally ready. Ribs with veg and mash, only one very small piece of broccoli about the size of a 50 cent piece cut in half and mash with an 8th of a piece of corn. Outskirts of town with next to no phone reception and 4 black outs for the night. At least it happens often enough that hey have a poor explanation as to why it does. We won’t be back and do yourself a favour and move on.
A great place to stay to get out of the wet weather. Great service from Matt at reception and Tara in the bistro. Thanks Guys
New facilities for Campsite. The shower room feel mini ensuite, like!
A bit out of town but well worth it asked if we could have a drive through they gave us a double for the same price and a discount because we've been before, log fire provided with nibbles . Also a fantastic restaurant,in 7 weeks on the road this was the best.
The cabin was very nice And modern however one negative the rim of the toilet was full of (expletive). Not cleaned properly
Friendly staff and great food and atmosphere. Very reasonable price 👍
