Came here for a drink and a quick snack. We ordered the fried calamari and the chicken wings. Both were perfectly seasoned and were served at the right temperature. Very friendly staff and a cozy place. I want to come back again and try more of their food options.

Gorgeous back patio, covered but has an open-air feel to it. Bartender was very friendly. Food was delicious!

I’ve been meaning to visit Captain Melville for years, but one reason or another never made it. And what a mistake that was! We had an amazing meal. Everything was delicious. The wagyu sausages and mash was fantastic - for once a dish that has the right amount of gravy! The burger was great too, as was the kids fish and chips. The starters were really interesting too and equally delicious. They’re clearly using great, quality produce and you can tell. Chris is obviously a great chef and it sets the pub apart from other pubs’ menus which are basically identical. The service was great - everyone was very accomodating and attentive. And the building is fantastic, everything a good pub should be. I’ll certainly be back! Thanks for a great time.

Can you believe the steak set cost only $22 and tastes really good??? A really good choice for Wednesday night special!

Great meals, great atmosphere

Captain Melville is a historic place in Melbourne (if you know, you know), and nowadays serves as a restaurant / pub. I would recommend booking in advance, if you are coming in as a group of people. My main order here has to be the chicken parma. Each time, I get a large cut of chicken (which is always a good thing), a generous serving of chips, and a simple salad. They tend to side towards more alcoholic drinks, but they have non-alcoholic options as well. Service is good, with the staff having a casual but still proper demeanor. I would recommend trying this out for both the food and the history of the place.

I ordered a chicken parma and was served what genuinely looked like what a chef, who had given up caring altogether, would plate a few minutes before quitting. It was not a parma, it was a dry, over cooked tiny chicken breast that was burnt before serving. Chips overcooked. Awfully disappointing pub meal.

A fantastic pub on the edge of the CBD. Staff are all very friendly, food was fantastic and even with a large crowd the service was very quick. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a venue for a lunch function.

Amazing venue! We hosted a function here for work, but if I ever need a wedding, a quiz night or just an epic fish and chips - I know exactly where to go. Noah and the team are amazing!

Quick shoutout to one of your staff members who was working Saturday night – she had black hair and tattoos. Massive respect to her! She noticed I had stopped drinking and could tell I was on a date, and it was clear she was checking in to make sure I was safe. She even asked me a few times! Even though I was totally fine, the fact that she was so attentive deserves serious props!! We need more people like her, especially in bar environments, where things like this happen all the time!!!

This is another worsted place I visited. I feel I wasted my one Friday night by visiting here You guys please improve little food quality, some good music, some good lighting. Too suffocated place. Bad smell Please don’t waste your time and money

First time here, very friendly staff, good combo or pub classics and restaurant style meals. I had the fish and chips (snapper) and it was lovely. Great selection of beers on tap and bottles, all round very good experience and I will be back.

We hosted an event at Captain Melville. Everything with the team was truly excellent. Preparation for the event was straightforward, communication was timely and clear. On the day of the event, everything was straightforward, friendly and professional. The food was excellent, as was the service. I'm really glad we were able to have our event at Captain Melville.

Food was amazing. The mashed potato was rich and creamy, topped with a delicious sauce with caramelized onions. Atmosphere is very nice as well!

Quality of food was appalling. Musamen Curry had 2 pieces of meat, temperature luke warm. Hamburger an improvement but the chips were dreadful.

We ran a professional networking night there very recently with 130 guests and the venue and staff were brilliant. Great atmosphere and facilities, all well-supported by the venue staff who were very professional and accommodating to the needs of guests and the event more broadly. The drinks and food were all very good too. We would highly recommend this venue for similar events or just as an everyday punter.

Always good value and great food

Came for the trivia which on it's own I'd give 5 stars. A relaxed, fun, interactive night and a fantastic host. The let down for me was my meal. I had a chicken madras curry. The rice was dry. The curry overly salty, had cold potato and no real flavour. The chicken was on the bone which isn't a preference of mine.

Came here on a Monday night for $20 parma night, located near Aldi and hard rock climbing on Franklin Street. Lots of seating inside and beautiful interior. Not so much parking available so public transport is recommend. The parma was small and dry, and the cocktails were possibly the worst I've had for the price (over $20 a cocktail). Big selection of beers and spirits.

I'll be honest, the food here is pretty average but it's a lovely place to hang out in during weeknights, you can actually hold conversations and not be drowned out by muzak or pokies. Service is friendly and the weekly specials make it a good value place to meet up and have a quick meal and drinks.

Ordered the steak - for $36 I'm not expecting the finest cut but out of the 250g steak, about 150g was tendon. Pathetic. They also don't know how to make an espresso martini consistently and when we notified them politely, all we copped was a condescending attitude. Won't be back.

We dined here last night Sunday 3 of is had the chicken Parma. It was dry and cheese and Tom sauce was tasteless. No recommended at all.

Great pub with upscale cocktails and fantastic craft beers. Excellent food when we attended their beer degustation event.

What a fabulous venue. Many areas for different occasions in a beautiful old building. Food was fabulous, loads of GF options clearly visible on menu - which as a coeliac I REALLY appreciate. Staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. What more could I ask for? We'll definitely be back

Had the lamb Ragu which was yummy. My partner had the Parma chips and salad which he enjoyed but it came out very small which was disappointing. The rest of the meals our group had including the steak was enjoyable however the steak was a bit tough, but the cheese platter was good! 👍

Got the bartenders special and it tasted so good I needed him to make me another. The skills these bartenders have were amazing to watch and the personality of the drinks were fun and go down so so well. The experience you get upstairs is very relaxed and vibey, perfect hangout spot with mates. Highly recommended for a chill night with good drinks and a warm atmosphere ☺️

Amazing atmosphere.

Stopped in here for a quick drink on the way past. The vibe really drew us in but inside it was a bit quieter when we got in. Out the back and front seemed to be the place to be. We liked the booth seating. Candles in the candle holders on tables would've added to the atmosphere. The beers were cold and they had a decent range and only stocked Australian beers. The bathrooms were cool with a planty look continued from inside.

The food was delicious, fairly priced and so inclusive for people with dietary requirements. The staff were very kind and accommodating. Loved to see free sanitary products available in the bathrooms too!

I hate this bar. I live across the street and they blast music till 7am in the morning. 1 star purely out of spite.

I came in last night with my hangry energetic young family. And from the minute we entered we were well looked after by many of the wonderful staff. From catering to the pram and changing the kids. To keeping the kids entertained and helping clean a mess they had also made. They could see we were a little stressed about the craziness and checked in on us regularly. To top it off we all enjoyed our meals and at least didn't leave a mess with that because it was all eaten 😂 a million thank yous for a great experience

We had a family (21 including grandchildren) Xmas dinner at captain Melville. We had a wonderful dinner, kids enjoyed the space and their kids meals. The staff were super friendly and the service was exemplary. Thanks so much to all at Captain Melville.

Apple cider was crisp with the perfect amount of sweetness, the perfect drink for a hot day. I had the Fried Chicken Burger, the chicken was beautifully fried to crispy perfection. my family reports that the rest of the food was amazing too.

Been here a couple of times for work meetings. Has good service and drinks. For me the food portion was a bit on the smaller side but other than that it's a good place to hang.

We went to this pub because my husband worked there in the 80’s and I’m sad to say it was very disappointing. The service was amazing but the food was terrible! We started with the garlic and herb flat bread which had far too much garlic and it was soggy. I then had the steak which came with a potato galette. I normally love potato galette’s but their version was inedible as it had a strange taste and texture. The food was a huge let down and that’s why we probably won’t go back 😢

Just had lunch here and the food is crazy-good, the staff are friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is brilliant. We've given 5-stars but Captain Melville's really deserves 10. Highly recommend.

Excellent food and service. They had a group of 60 turn up and we ordered right after. Even though we got our meals In an hour (so the wait was so reasonable) the staff were so apologetic and friendly and gave us some extra appetisers for the wait. Really nice service from all staff members 😊
