I went to an event at the Stamford Grand Saturday night and they lost a fairly expensive article of clothing which somehow didn't make it to the Cloakroom. Their response included suggesting I could have given it to another guest who may have stolen it, or another guest just stole it - only guests seem to steal things at the Stamford apparently - and they have been evasive ever since. Ironic that the first speaker of the night was the General Manager of the Stamford Grand...
It has been a great stay. Duty Manager Girija was absolutely amazing. Since I called him at 7am he has just been pleasant and a joy to speak to. He arranged the romantic package last minute and also welcomed me when I arrived He truly made my birthday stay very special with also a room upgrade for my comfort and Princess treatment ❤️
Went to a 80 th b day function which was well run. Breakfast chaotic & not inviting. Despite paying for function b day boy only got dungeon room. Windows of breakfast room long overdue for a wash as was roof.
Old, tired, and poor value for money. I have stayed here for decades but still my name is unknown. The cocktail bar has not had its windows cleaned in months, the bar staff can't have a keg changed, after three drinks the base mixture for a cocktail runs out. And, after paying top dollar for a room with a view, I can see a view more suited to a prison!
We recently had a high tea at the Stamford Grand to celebrate a milestone anniversary and birthday. The high tea was amazing with a variety of savoury and sweet options along with champagne and tea/coffee. The service provided by our server Ree was exceptional which helped to make our experience memorable.
Such a good location and that's what it's all about.
We had a fantastic meal Saturday evening. Ree especially added to our evening, great service and friendly helpful staff. Amazing views and music in the bar to finish off the evening.
Location is ideal, fantastic view, room was very good nice & clean & very comfortable. Plenty of restaurants, cafes & transport at your door. Will definitely stay again.
It was a great experience. Convenient. Had a nice pool and it was right in front of the beach. There were activities in front of the hotel to keep the kids entertained. The restaurants were walking distance away. Would definitely go back again.
The rooms were disgustingly hot. I couldn’t get to sleep easily for 3 night and on the third night I couldn’t sleep until after 4am. The conference rooms were freezing yet the rooms were putridly hot. This was consistent with the very large group I travelled with. The coffee tasted like poison and I threw it out after one sip. Although the location is exceptional the discomfort of temperature eclipsed any other aspect of the experience. You would expect so much more from the Stamford name.
Just had a beautiful lunch here with my elderly mum for her birthday. We had the Singaporean menu which was delicious and the chef even gave us free cake with ice cream for mums birthday. The venue is stunning with nice relaxing music, not too loud. Jasmine our waitress was awesome. Very friendly, attentive and courteous. Mum lives a few doors away so we will definitely be back :)
If you want to stay at the beach in luxury. This is the place. Great rooms. Comfortable, clean, great views if you’re on the sea side.
Great place to stay and close to beach
The in house restaurant sold $58 meals and bar one.dish had store bought wedges. Not 5 star fine dining by any means. The room although large you do not want to facing Mosley square especially for a honeymoon night with doof doof music from their night club downstairs. I have been to a public toilet, a bakery and.a public hospital all have less scratchy toilet paper. The breakfast.that was included was tough bacon that I nearly broke a tooth on and mostly inedible. The package promoted a bath for two with candle light and rose petals. Although we got the candle and roses their was barely any room for one person to.habe their whole body in. The king bed buckled and again aided in no sleep and sore backs. Sorry worse experience ever and I believe I was being generous.with 2 stars but definitely not a 5 star hotel. Thank you for reply Rahul Joglekar However this was our honeymoon.gifted to us by friends. At 550 per night this was the worse experience and.even if we could afford to do it again we would much rather go to mildura spend 189 per night and get a full of corner spa in.view of a tv with a room just as big. Which is where my brother in-law ended up going for the night. And I'm know the basic necessity of toilet paper was also much nicer. Sorry but for shame. Store bought wedges on fine dining plate how can you justify. My poor friends felt terrible that they trusted the booking and.the 5 stat's you have been given by others. We obviously got the budget room and not at all that was promised on the confirmation booking.
The swimming pool was small and lacked enough chairs or lounge chairs, forcing people to lie on towels on the floor and leave their belongings there as well. This was disappointing and not what I expected from a hotel of this standard. Also no umbrellas.
Perfect Place for NYE Celebrations!!! Next to beach and shops. Lovely staff , nice Room. Restaurant food is yummy. ****Updated review jan 2025!! Still lovely place to stay, staff are always amazing. Breakfast in the restaurant is fantastic !!
Kann ich empfehlen direkt am strand , strassenbahn und bus um die Ecke 👍👍👍👍👍
Just lovely
I have wanted to bring my wife of 26 yrs here for so long and without a doubt, I love this place. To look out and see, hear, smell the beach so close. The sounds of the people on the streets and pier...just so nice. Well done Stamford!
Hotel manager spoke to us so disgusting. We have stayed at this hotel many times before and we will never be staying here again and will be raising it further. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else!
When for New years Eve party. Great location to see the fireworks at Glenelg. Dinner was nothing to write home about it. Wine was not the best. The people we share the table with were lovely. Service was very good, though.
The staff here are so friendly and helpful- we had an issue with our original room and the staff were able to move us promptly. We were out exploring and when we returned our bags had been moved to the new room. Rooms are large and comfy, but will agree with others on here that the bathrooms could use an update and so could the carpet. Other than that the rooms are clean and the antique vibe throughout the hotel is gorgeous
Beautiful views - magnificent Sunset every night - and water views and the jetty are relaxing lovely room - comfy beds - close to everything - great bar downstairs with good entertainment every night ||Buffet breakfast on site but variety of restaurants and eateries within walking distance
Very rude and unprofessional guy behind the counter at reception (yogi) doesn’t seems like a love his job or may be racist I wonder no one hang around them and watch how they treat their guests. At check in we have been served by the guy name (Rahul ) very nice and great guy smile and greet make much different especially when you work in hospitality industry even my Wife got the same treatment from this guy yogi very very unprofessional speaking in his own language behind the counter making fun of other Guests when they want any service. Rest of the guy and services were great including concierge.
The rooms were great, offering luxury and a stunning view of the beach, including the beach volleyball matches. The staff were outstanding, delivering exceptional service and serving delicious food. Everything was in walking distance and there was a great atmosphere.
Beautiful movie like hotel with stunning views. And very friendly and professional staff team. I highly recommend getting a balcony ocean view room!
As always the room was very clean and comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed.||All the staff we met were very courteous and friendly.||We had an excellent meal in the Promenade Restaurant, the staff were friendly and helpful.||We have already booked our next stay
We had a very nice stay. Our ocean room on level 7 was wonderful. Very clean and presentable. It was our anniversary and they had a bottle of wine in our room for us which was a lovely thought and gesture ||Buffet breakfast was also very nice with a great selection and everything was very fresh.||We will return in the near future. Thankyou
It was a great experience staying at stamford for 4 nights. I am very happy with everything. Improvement: tv's could improve to have YouTube or netflix however you will be mostly out during the day and even later in the evening.
All staff were helpful and friendly.Housekeepers would leave lovely notes and treats. We felt well looked after. The hotel is right across from the beach and offers amazing views. Lots of bars and restaurants are also nearby. We were travelling as a couple and thought it was perfect. There were also lots of families staying there too.Highly recommended!
Great location, stayed there many times, however, this is first time we got a Ocean room. Fantastic Hotel and so close to so many wonderful shops and restaurants!
We booked the hotel over Christmas, including a Christmas buffet. The location is very good. The beds were very soft and uncomfortable and wobbled with every little movement, the shelves in the wardrobe were very dusty and the balcony door was very leaky. The wind blew through it all the time. The rooms with a terrace did not have as nice a view as the description was and unfortunately were hardly usable as there was no sun protection. Unfortunately, all rooms with a balcony have a very thin connecting door, so that you - unintentionally - had to hear literally every word of the neighbors or their TV. |The Christmas dinner buffet offered a large selection, but was completely overpriced for what was on offer. We would definitely not book this hotel again.

Great hotel in a prime location on Jetty Rd with beautiful ocean views. This hotel is very well kept for an older property and holds a lot of character and charm. The service was exceptional and room service was prompt and delicious. Roof top pool and hot tub offer great views as well. Would definitely come back when visiting Adelaide.
We stayed on the 11th floor with stunning views over the beach/ocean and that we could not fault however the hotel is tired and grubby I have seen many reviews saying similar and have received bog standard replies without actually addressing the problems. In my opinion this is certainly not a 5 🌟 hotel at best a 3 needs some serious updating
During the Christmas break, I returned to Adelaide for a week-long stay at the Stamford Grand in Glenelg.||From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with exceptional professionalism and warmth, setting a positive tone for our visit. The rooms were impeccably clean and incredibly comfortable. While the hotel has a timeless charm, it is the outstanding customer service and attention to detail that truly stand out.||Having stayed at this hotel for 20 years, I noticed significant improvements, likely due to new management. The grand bar on the ground floor has been revitalized, bringing back its former vibrancy as a popular summer destination.||The staff and senior management exemplify world-class service, making every guest feel valued. I look forward to booking another stay.

Perfect location - overlooking the sea. Super helpful FOH staff. Rooms are a bit dated now - but pool area and balcony are good. Note : pool only shallow - NO Diving
The hotel is very tired. The pool area is huge but only has 4 Sunlounges and a few tables and chairs. Facilities certainly need an update. The site we booked on rated this hotel as being 5 star. It certainly wasn’t. The buffet breakfast was very basic.
We had an unforgettable stay at the Stamford Grand Hotel Glenelg over the New Year. Our Grand Double Queen room was exceptional, featuring an amazing sea view that made every moment special. The service throughout our stay was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and professional. The hotel restaurant, The Promenade, offered fantastic dining, with high-quality food and a lovely atmosphere. The highlight of our stay was experiencing the New Year’s Eve fireworks and celebrations on the jetty right from the comfort of our room. It truly felt like a front-row seat to the best show in town! The hotel’s direct beach and pool access added even more convenience and luxury to our experience, allowing us to enjoy Glenelg’s beautiful coastline effortlessly. Another plus was the proximity to the shops on Jetty Road, which made exploring the local area easy and enjoyable. Overall, the Stamford Grand Hotel Glenelg provided the perfect blend of comfort, location, and exceptional service. It was the ideal place to celebrate the New Year, and we would happily return in the future!
OK lets start with the good......the location is amazing, and a balcony(although very small) had a great view over the ocean, however having said this, it is partially blocked by 70 meter Norfolk Pine trees...Some of the reception staff were great, others were not so obliging...Hmmm! thats about all I can think of that was good, now the downside, rooms in need of upgrading, bathrooms basic, carpets stained, curtains dated, needs painting.. looking aged, amenaties basic, cheap toilet paper, instant sachet coffe, UHT milk little containers, not enough even for one cup of coffee..when one pays $600 for a night, one expects a lot better than this, I could go on and on about the downside, however you will just think I am banging on...We will never stay again...Oh yes I nearly forgot...the gaming room is so outdated, back to the day of the coin, and all the machines are the same, very old, no atmosphere, no coffee available .. only that horrible machine coffee..I mean really stale biscuits, no music in background..
New Years Eve... Carnival function.. Ballroom had no atmosphere... No signs...no decorations.... The food wasn't up to scratch.. Raw crumb cutlets.. Beef fillet cold & bland... Entree parmesan panacotta looked a dish from the 80s... No salads... Premium drinks very poor... Lift your game if you want to charge $240 pp
love the location and very friendly staff.
Grand Ballroom Christmas Lunch. A good attempt, but unfortunately let down with premium drinks package (not premium) scattered customer service, a bit more care with the organisers and could have been a great event. View and Band were excellent 👌
We had Christmas morning breakfast at The Promenade and it was absolutely wonderful! Daniel and the whole team were so friendly and cheerful, the food was delicious, with a fantastic range, and the dietary requirements at our table were fully accommodated. The setting and view was, as always, just lovely. What a fabulous start to our Christmas Day.
Christmas morning breakfast was clean, professional service with a wide range.Catered for special dietary needs will attend again.
Great Christmas lunch.
We enjoyed a beautiful Christmas breakfast, the food was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. It would have been great to have some Christmas music playing to add to the atmosphere. The only disappointed was the greeting card saying Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"."
Don't stay on Level 11. (1) Room leaks water from ceiling, constantly dripping on the window seal and carpet (2) Air conditioner could not cool room even when it was the high 20s, temperature kept going up, like that for all 3 days (3) Everything is old, stained and creaky (4) No hot water one night. Not worth $300 price tag. Most of these issues aren't experienced when staying on other levels. Staff members aren't proactive in offering any type of resolution or compensation. The pool spa wasn't working (water is hot but no bubbles), no signage and from previous reviews this has been the case for at least 6 days prior. No care or consideration given to this. This is the 4th time we stayed here this year (but the first time on Level 11), but this will likely be the last.
$380 for a night, for an ocean view room with private terrace. Here’s a pic of our ocean view and ‘private’ terrace when standing up, and when you sit on the outdoor chairs it’s just the fence and the sky. Staff offered an alternative room and promised to get back to us with options but never did.
High tea was lovely,so were staff. We had a view over the beach.
Lovely old hotel, absoulete beach front and close to shops and night-life.
Overall, disappointed with our stay. Considering this venue has been one of Adelaide's top places to stay and had received Tourism Awards in 2021: The staff were lovely. However, the foyer is looking dull and dated with worn carpet. $339 paid for a city view room, with the expectation, of coffee pod machine in room as suggested by the run down when booking. Very average, regular hotel, sachet coffee making. No hair dryer in room. Had to request one! Whilst walls in bathroom had been updated, floor tiles looking worse for wear. Towels had a distinctive musty odour. The lights in the room operated rather randomly and not as indicated on relative switches.1 lamp couldn't be used unless the overhead lights were also on. Part of paying the higher price for the room, was the description of the pool and spa area. Unfortunately, the spa wasn't working. Several other guests expressed disappointment at this and also most had been led to believe by the advertising that the pool was an indoor one. The outdoor pool area was generally ok and at least the Towels here were nice. The only ATM on the premises was out of order( not good on a Saturday night). The gaming room only had a couple of newer machines, most were quite old and it was coin only. Sadly 😥 this place is looking tired and outdated! Certainly, not worth the money my friend spent on the room. Possibly still not bad for functions, with the grand staircase making a nice photo back drop. I think if it wasn't for the idealic location, it would have little to offer the discerning traveller.
Zac, on the front desk, worked each day of my stay of 7 nights. He has an excellent manner and sense of professionalism for a fella so young. Well done mate. Rick
Loved the location i will stay again and this time stay fr breakfast
Always a pleasure to stay at Stamford Grand in Glenelg. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Nothing is any trouble for the staff.
Waste of money. Had to cancel due to my daughter having COVID. Staff were receptive and helpful advising me to contact booking.com. Received authorisation from the Booking.com team, however, could not follow through as no one at the Stamford was picking up the phone. Rang another 3 times and still no answer! How can this be a 4 star hotel!??!?! No call back, no apology just a door slam in my face. Went through the process again on the following day, again received notes of a free cancellation from booking .com, however, Stamford staff refused to honour. Purposefull quoting communications after booking and not honouring communication on the day of checkin. Never Again!
I just had my wedding reception here, and the event sales team is just terrible with no sense of responsibility at all. For any issues I bring up, there's always an excuse waiting for me, and there’s no such thing as flexibility when communicating with this guy called Tom. What’s more, I paid for 67 adult set menus, and only 63 were served without confirming with me, as they thought those guests were not coming. When my guests arrived later, they had no food served at all for the whole night. I asked for a refund, not only they refused my request, but also there's not even an apology, all I got were excuses again. I simply request what I paid for should be provided, is it something hard to come by these days? If you're thinking about having your wedding reception there, stop your thinking immediately.
good location, great value for money and a really nice hotel. it will look amazing if and when its renovated!!!
Great accommodation fantastic service. Meals were delicious at the restaurant..Bar down stairs although can get crowded. Beautiful views of Glenelg Beach..
My stay was only brief but nonetheless enjoyable. A great location, beachside with plenty of dining and shopping options close by to choose from and all within walking distance. Staff were professional and friendly, from reception/concierge to housekeeping. As for the room, it was clean with nothing amiss. The bed was comfortable and servicing of the room nicely done. I found the streamcast easy to set up and use and the wifi worked well. The food was good however I was not a fan of the premade mass produced muffins/pastries provided at breakfast and catering. Overall a great stay.
Had high tea and was excellent
wonderful trip for our anniversary!
Beautiful veiw, lovely staff, very friendly and great food.
The staff at this location make this hotel worth the stay, helpful, funny and overall down to earth but also extremely professional. The only issues I found was my room air-conditioning deciding not to work on two occasions. However as earlier stated the staff helped with resetting the air conditioning on both occasions and even offered to change rooms. Room itself was clean, and well maintained when I arrived.
Yet another hotel taking a ridiculous deposit amount and making money from it for 3-5 days before giving it back. Great view of the roof of another building (city view room). The best thing about this stay was father Xmas delivering our cases to the room and his good sense of humour.
Pros: Super central location, staff very friendly, awesome view from the room, decent food at room service, big breakfast with lots of food, lots of places to eat nearby, wonderful renovated pool Cons: Hotel rooms are a bit dated, restaurant is too small to cater for guests in the morning weekends, not enough staff available Definitely stay again!
The staff were professional and courteous. The location is great if you stay in one of the beach-facing rooms with a balcony, but the so-called “city view” rooms leave much to be desired. These rooms overlook old, rusty commercial rooftops and offer no real views. Additionally, the rooms without balconies have sealed windows, which can feel quite claustrophobic. The food quality was disappointing—barely a 1-star experience. I also had trouble contacting reception, as calls often went unanswered or took a long time to be picked up. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t stay here again.
Fantastic place to stay. We had a balcony room overlooking the sea
A heritage hotel with a stunning ocean view and an open-air pool on the second floor with a balcony overlooking Jetty Road. The hotel offers exceptional service and delectable buffet breakfast.
Always enjoy our stay at this hotel. It's right on the waterfront at Glenelg overlooking the famous jetty. The rooms are clean with a classic retro appeal. This time, we had one with a balcony overlooking the water where we could listen to the surf all night. We enjoyed our evening dinner at the onsite restaurant except for the pasta dish, very dry. Classic dishes never fail to please generally. Shout out to the cleaners in the gym, excellent job in cleanliness & tidiness thankyou!
Sad to see such an iconic Adelaide hotel so far past its prime. - Airconditioning was loud and not very effective. - We were double-charged (beginning and end of stay) and our refund hasn't finalised yet. - We tried the restaurant on our first night and it took about half an hour to even order our drinks, and a vast amount of time for our (very tasty) food to come. Staff did their best to keep us engaged and comfortable during the wait, but still not acceptable overall. - Hallways were not airconditioned and rooms could not be kept cool without leaving a keycard behind. - Front desk and concierge staffing is not at the levels needed. - Room cleaning happened very late each day which made the room unpleasant. - Cocktail bar tables are not wiped down and no coasters, so tables are sticky. - Bar supplies do not match with the cocktail menu. - Breakfast buffet has really slipped... visible cross-contamination. - Omelettes may or may not come, meaning someone has to follow up rather than being able to relax. Best part of the three-night stay was being served by Daniel and Ree in the restaurant. Bright, professional and attentive. Most other staff need intensive comms and customer service training as a matter of extreme urgency. This hotel is unviable if it cannot protect customer experience. I'm at about 4 hours of compensating for the hotel's inattentiveness at this stage. Meanwhile, anticipating a formulaic kneejerk response from the front desk manager in 3... 2... 1...
Such a great hotel on the beachfront at Glenelg only we went there on Sunday afternoon to have a drink went to the toilets which were possibly the worst kept toilets for Australian standard! Walking down into the toilets the stair way stunk of urine and the ladies toilets were disgisting
Group lunch in The Promenade restaurant and wanted to give a shoutout to the team and especially to the restaurant chef for the Duck Breast and also the Seafood chowder … 5 stars all round.
Fairly old hotel, came in for a conference and experience was not great. Staying for 4 nights but only received complementary water for the first night. Poor variety of food at breakfast. Would not recommend
Delicious food, great service. Reegan was a very attentive and helpful waitress. I will certainly go to the Stamford Grand Promenade Restaurant again.
Always enjoy our weekend stay here. Excellent meals and service.
Staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Facilities are lovely. Was a wonderful place to stay for a special occasion.
stayed for a few days and had a fantastic time, excellent location and I can't speak more highly of the Hotel Manager Robert, He was so welcoming and I think he must live in the hotel, he was everywhere and always had an answer for any help we needed. thank You for a great holiday, we will be back!
