About Us

RSL Tasmania has been a steadfast supporter of the Tasmanian Defence Family since 1917. Our mission is to enhance the wellbeing and betterment of our members, former and serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and their dependants. We achieve this through the provision of welfare and commemorative services, and by contributing to worthy community needs where appropriate.

Supported by the Tasmanian Government, the Returned and Service League of Australia, Tasmania Branch Inc. underwent a Governance Review in 2019. This review led to the development of a simplified Vision and Purpose, aimed at providing clear direction towards our mission statement and reinforcing our role as the peak body of ex-service organisations in Tasmania.

Our Vision and Purpose are designed to guide our efforts in supporting the Tasmanian Defence Family, ensuring that we remain focused on our core values and pillars. These statements reflect our commitment to the welfare, advocacy, and commemoration of our service members and their families.

Our Values and Pillars

• Welfare: Ensuring the wellbeing of war veterans, serving members of the ADF, ex-servicemen and women, and their dependants.
• Advocacy and Representation: Accepting a moral obligation to help all veterans and serving members, regardless of their membership status.
• Commemoration and Remembrance: Participating in and organizing events that honor the sacrifices of our service members.
• Employment Programs: Committed to providing employment opportunities for veterans, ex-service members, and their dependants.
• Democratic Principles: Upholding democratic practices within our organization.
• Camaraderie and Fellowship: Providing a means for members to enjoy camaraderie, fellowship, and mateship.
• Effective Management: Managing RSL assets and resources efficiently for the benefit of our members and the broader community.
• Lobbying and Advocacy: Monitoring government policies and departments to act as an effective lobby group.
• Support for the ADF: Offering moral and active support to the Australian Defence Force.
• Community Engagement: Being active within the community and Australian society, instilling patriotic values and pride in the nation.

Our Commitment

RSL Tasmania is the State’s Peak Body and the largest Ex-Service Organisation in Tasmania, with 45 Sub-Branches. We are dedicated to offering advice, support, and camaraderie to all current and former Australian Defence Force Members and their families.
