Tonight was the second time we’ve eaten at the Ascot Vale Hotel and it did not disappoint. Once again Chicken Schnitzel main and prior to that the squid and also the beef skewer entrees were well seasoned and delicious. We will be back again.

Enjoyed the meal, more appropriate sized pub meal.

Last minute inspiration to check out the steak night deal. No regrets. The steak, medium rare, was not only delicious, it was cooked to perfection, not a fraction of a second too long on the heat. Chips/fries were crispy and tasty. The salad was predominantly rocket and shredded carrot... rocket is one of my favorite leafs.

Best steak we’ve had in a long long time … and it’s $25 steak night! Ordered rare … and the chef cooked it … rare!

If you live in Moonee Ponds, this is the best pub in the area.

Visiting Melbourne while looking at apartments in Ascot Vale, we took the opportunity to visit the academic Vale hotel. We had excellent meals and ice-cold drinks finishing off a great day. We will definitely visit again.

Great little local pub that I wandered into after work today for early dinner. It was Tuesday steak night so I had a really good porterhouse steak with the creamy peppercorn sauce with salad and fries. The plate was so generous for the price - it was happy hours as well so I had it and a pot of beer for only 28 dollars total. Very good meal. The place had really good vibes as well and there were a few regulars and some cute puppies in attendance. Staff were friendly and service was lightning fast. Much recommend this place.

What am awesome little pub on the west side ! Great food, especially the dim sims 🤤 the atmosphere is old meets new inside and has a cart cool aesthetic. We even took our puppy and sat outside !

Great place. Super friendly staff. We hosted a family birthday party and pre booked a table the staff were great and nothing was too hard. Reccomend the dim sims and barra spring rolls. For mains the seafood pasta, steak sanga and my son in law liked the rosemary lamb pie so much he practically ate the bowl it was served in !!!

Very disappointed with our 'dining' experience there on 'steak night'. I made a reservation for the dining room and ended up being seated in the public bar. The steak was the toughest I have EVER encountered, it was even difficult to cut with the serrated knife. The accompaning mushroom sauce was disgusting; it was just a sweet, insipid brown liquid with a miniscule amount of a chopped mushroom. Pub food is generally good but I would never recommend this place to anyone, ever. WE SHALL NOT RETURN!!

Always a great place to go for the food, atmosphere and most importantly the customer service. Such great staff. Today the lamb shank pie was next level tasty.

Order the fish of the day it was awful and uncooked. Dory on a polenta base dreadful.

Had dinner with a group of friends and we had a ball. The place was busy and we still had great service from the staff. The Ascot Vale Hotel has a good uplifting vibe with its aesthetics. Everyone was talking but surprisingly we could hear unlike some other venues where all noise becomes one and you can't hear yourself think. Food was great, no-one complained and no-one left anything on their plate. My steak was 🥰 Looking forward to getting back there 💪

Nice clean pub. The steak nights not bad. Service is good. Happy hour is ok, but unfortunately it's only pots and they don't last long. Hardimans hotel has a better happy hour. Schooners for a dollar more which isn't far. But the AVH is ok.

What an amazing experience. The friendliest staff and great food. The only thing I would change is the amount of times I’m able to go each week.

Food quality can be a bit inconsistent on each visit. Sometimes it's absolutely amazing perfect steak and chips, will go again a few weeks later and the chips will be over cooked and the steak chewy. Other then that, it's a great pub with lots of options and great service.

Tap beers were the highlight, flavours of each beer were distinct and smooth drinking. Nothing wrong with service, but might have been a little too casual and lacked warmth. Building is well refurbished and maintained. Outdoor seating was as pretty but some heating would be nice when temperature drops in the evening. Went there for steak night, salad and fries were above average, sauces were packed with flavour and delicious. Steak themselves, doness was precise. However heat might have been too high, some parts of the edges were very burnt, black and bitter. Charged full price for beers during happy hour, I wonder if it's because discount was not available outside bar area.

Best pub in Melbourne

We booked a table for my son's 18th on a Monday night for 20 people. The staff were extremely accomodating, great table service with all of our meals coming out together. The meals were all lovely. I would highly recommend the AVH

Came here the day before valentine, place was not that busy, price just right and food is very good. Place needs some brush up but it gives the place some character.

I took my daughter here for dinner. There were kids running and screaming. They were playing in the smoking area no parental supervision. I complained to parent, ignored me. Hotel staff did nothing despite the kids putting them at risk. It was only when the kids turned the kids turned gas off to the kitchen that anything was done. It's a shame the staff were so rude, and patron even worse because it's nice inside and the food wasn't bad. But I won't be back

Came here for dinner last night. Service by the staff was great, all very friendly with big smiles on their faces. Only let down was the steak.... ordered the scotch fillet and it was clearly cooked on a fry pan. Never been to a pub where a good cut of steak is cooked on a pan, always been chargrilled. Was tasteless and bland. Other food items we ordered where great. I'd avoid wasting money on the steak and go somewhere that actually knows how to cook them.

Nice relaxing space, bright and fresh. Service was efficient, not rushed to eat and move on. All food was very tasty and well priced, desserts could be a bit more adventurous. Good selection of tap beers, other wines and spirits pretty much standard. Would definitely recommend for a good pub meal.

Thanks so much for the terrific night Ascot Vale Hotel. Everyone enjoyed their meals and I loved the chicken schnitzel with the delicious coleslaw and butter sauce 😋. All of our meals came out at the same time which is a real win with a group of 12 and the staff were friendly and helpful. Can't thank you enough for such a great time. We'll be back!

I was waiting for the waiter in charge for several minutes, he looked at me and kept walking ignoring that I wanted to order drinks, it has already happened twice, he definitely needs to improve customer service

Cute little joint. Very busy, got there about 8.10-8.20 for some dinner. The waitstaff need a raise. The ladies working in the dining room where we sat did NOT STOP for a second. They were constantly on the go, busy lil bees. And super sweet and attentive, as well. The food was delicious. The schnitzel is like a kiev and schnitzel had a baby. It's amazing. The pork belly was cooked really well, just missing the crispy skin this time, unfortunately. But the person ordering has had it here before and said it was crispy the first time, so it was probably more happenstance than anything else.

Visited after Moonee Valley races

A quiet Saturday lunch. We had the Barramundi, Parma and curry. Relaxed atmosphere; acoustics need some work, hard to hear each other and only about 20 people in the dining area. Friendly staff, good variety of food and drinks. Nice space. Would go again.
