Came here for a quick bite to eat the other night. Delicious wings and chips. Friendly staff.

Came in during steak night and it was great!! A bit hard to get the waiter’s attention sometimes because they’re usually busy at the bar. I might come back to try the pasta next time.

Really great family run business. Really kid-friendly and we love that they don't flinch when asked if there is anything colouring books/paper. They come with everything sharpened and ready to go which keeps my kid happy. Thanks team! 😁

Love going to 540 on Barkly! They have the best steak and love the pasta dishes and desserts as well. I recently had my birthday dinner there with a group of 20 people and all the guests were impressed with their meals! They were very accomodating to my requests and the service was top notch. Thank you for having us. We will definitely be back again!

It's a bit of a disappointment when you are in the mood for a juicy medium rare steak, and based on previous experiences, you place your order and discover the quality is not the same as with the previous owner. And then you were told that because of the tasteless steak, it is a good reason to come again. I must say that the other dish we ordered was very delicious 😋.

Went here for Parma night and did not disappoint! Chicken was very juicy while crumb stayed crispy. Got sticky date and chocolate mousse for dessert and was pleasantly surprised! Can't wait to do steak nights at this place :)

I had porterhouse steak cooked perfect topped with delicious mushroom gravy, crispy chips and salad. Steak and chips were nice and hot. The pinot noire was really good. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed my experience. I will be going again. They make a really good coffee too.

I had the best dinner at 540. I don’t usually eat steak but went to their Tuesday steak night and l will definitely be back, ate every bit. The chips were perfect & I loved the gravy (I had two types, the mushroom & also the pepper) Highly recommend

Steak night is great value for money and the steak is very tender. You also get a choice of sauces as well. The Atlantic salmon is great also. The mash is really tasty. The chicken wings are great too on burger night, only $10 for 500g and $20 for $1kg. The burgers are really good and you get a generous amount of chips also. A great place to eat with some tasty food.

I have lived in Maidstone for 10 years and had not realized that there was this gem of a restaurant just a 5-10 minute walk away. The restaurant was lively, with friendly staff and an abundance of regulars. The beer garden was a nice space and would be a lovely spot for summertime beverages. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the squid ink seafood pasta can rival the best, including Tipo 00’s in the city. The new cocktails were amazing; my favorite one is the Spicy Margarita. Definitely worth another trip to try their famous Chicken Parmas. Everything on the menu appeared delicious. Great pricing on both food and drinks. Certainly the new destination on Barkly Street, if not the whole of Footscray.

A local, convenient family-friendly but just average. The staff were very lovely, but food was just okay. We headed in for steak night and found a very long wait time between entrees and mains. Selection of food was good but my steak was overcooked, and my mate’s Parma was average too. Atmosphere is like your typical pub but awkwardly bit more fancy.

Delicious, hot and crispy food, amazing ambiance and great music! Service was superb. What else can you ask from high quality food.

Have been to this venue with members of my family.Would not hesitate to recommend it those who are looking for a high level of casual dining. Would recommend that you book a table.

Really ordinary tonight. Ordered Chicken Parma, chips cold, parma really really cold. I live really close - Uber delivery was super fast so can’t be the driver. Not a great outcome this time. To be fair, in the past food was piping hot. Not sure if they forgot to turn on the heat?

There are very few options in the area to get pasta so we gave this restaurant a shot. It was excellent. Quickly prepared too.

Lovely upstairs function room. The service was excellent and beer cold. Great space with 2 nice outdoor terraces, enough room inside for a party and very easy to find parking. Great spot.

Fantastic contemporary local pub. Simon and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. Great quality food with weekly specials, nice cocktails and a great outdoor courtyard to enjoy on a sunny day. Definitely worth a visit.

Pretty decent food, good value specials and happy hour. Service is pretty good as well. A bit drab inside at times, very old school style pub so it's fairly dark even on a nice bright sunny day and the atmosphere isn't the most welcoming or warm but the staff and friendly and everything is good value, definitely a decent place to go and went be a disappointment but nothing to write home about either

Great happy hour offering a nice discount on the house beer(540 larger). I haven't experienced much of the menu, but the food we have tried is tasty. The cocktails are freshly made and delicious, I'd go out of my way to recommend the amaretto sour. The beer garden out the back is also a lovely place to sit on a nice day.

Have been here a few times, enjoyed every visit. Chicken Parma is great, as is the Calamari. Wednesday night is Parma night. Thursday night is burger night, great burgers, staff still friendly.

I had panko calamari. Was a mistake. Tasted like mostly panko and very little calamari. Will order the non panko next time. But the food is not bad overall.

Service and food are awesome. Had the chicken parma, seasoning, and portion is very generous. Will come back again.

We chose 540onBarkly for a 50th birthday party celebration on 19th Nov and it is a fabulous local venue for cosy celebrations! Our event was for around 30 people for canapes and drinks. We dealt with Simon and he was professional & helpful and was able to answer all our questions, and was flexible with both indoor / outdoor options. Reasonably priced with great food. Handy carpark next door. The team on the night were great; friendly and attentive, thank you for helping us to have a terrific night. We would glady use your venue again!

Absolutely love this place! I live locally and finally checked it out recently and it's my new favourite local. They have great specials, delicious food and a comfy atmosphere. The $16 burger special is FANTASTIC value for money and the burgers are top notch. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Unfortunately not a great dining experience and even worse for food. We arrived a bit after 8 for dinner for burger night on Thursday, was told to hurry up and order. Waited 25 minutes for our burgers to arrive when it was pretty quiet. The chips were okay, however patties were like hard rubber - the worst burgers my partner and I had ever eaten. You couldn't even put a knife or fork through the patties, it was like the mince was smashed together and compressed into a rubber ball. Waste of money and should've gone to Mcdonalds instead. Really disappointed given we are locals on Barkly Street..

Good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Went on a thursday for their burger special for 16$ got the chilli beef burger which was delicious. 7.5/10 chips are amazing Chicken parma wednesdays for 17$ is a steal! Salad is to die for. Chicken is 7/10. Chips are on point. Awesome meal

540 has been my go to for dinners out with a group for years. Very flexible - no problem with one person just having a drink or going straight to dessert (hello awesome sticky date pudding back from the 90s). Always happy to split payment. Great local vibe with regulars having a drink and people greeting one another. The food is always great and the service just right - good but not pretentious.

I’ve walked past this place a hundred times and it never really appealed to me. I thought it was a wine bar or something. Anyway, went for dinner there the other night and it was excellent. Very down to earth and friendly staff. Food was lovely. We’ll be going back for sure.
