Caitlyn served us and I must say her customer service is second to none. The room is exactly what we need, clean and spacious. Food was very good and very reasonably priced. If I’m back in Adelaide I will be returning.

The food was great, enjoyed by everyone in our party. Staff were attentive, polite and helpful. Will definitely come again.

Best beef schnitzel ever!

Chose the Blue gums to celebrate my mother in laws birthday, had lovely meals in the dining room, very generous serves, enjoyed by all, comfortable environment. Downside, a lot of background noise, making conversation difficult and did have to wait a little while for staff to shown us to our table as only one staff person working, across the dining room and bar when we arrived.

The young lad was more interested in his phone. Meals were a bit pricey, you got no salad or a lettuce mix.(poor) form. Miss the quiz night's with the cheap pizza! 6 people in our party.

We used it as accommodation for a celebration nearby. It’s awesome for a Hotel/Motel, that has been face-lifted to give it a well deserved modern and clean feel. Check in staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, room was comfortable and squeaky clean. Appreciated the continental breakfast supplied to put a spring in our step before departure.

I recently moved into the area and last night I thought I’d take my son to have a schnitty at the local! I cannot describe in words how disappointed I was!! I’ll start by saying the staff were pleasant and the service wasn’t the issue it was the food and prices. $80 for two schnitzels a beer and a coke is a joke!! If the food was amazing I’d cop it and be glad that at least it was nice food. The schnitzel was processed rubbish and was like a piece of rubber , I didn’t eat it all which is unusual for me!! A schnitzel in Australia is the gauge of a good or a bad pub! I am on the look out for a better one and I am pleased to find there are a lot of options!!

$78 for vegetarian pasta, lamb shoulder and bowl of chips. What came out was not worth $78. It is just not value for money and I won’t make that mistake again.

Should have read the menu reviews beforehand I ordered. Had the T/bone steak, it was like cutting through leather . Very grisly. Not value for the money. Staff & service were good.

Last minute meal stop...first place I've seen in years...has a salad bar again

Had dinner here with family, found the restaurant to be very overpriced and the food quite bland (except for the pork tomahawk for which feedback was positive). The pizzas had soggy bases and were pretty poor for the price. Also, the bistro was nearly empty but the food still took 50 mins to arrive. The small table was cluttered with empty drinks and food plates waiting to be taken away after the meal as well for about 30 mins. Not the best experience and would not recommend.

Great value

Came for lunch today, 2 couples. The decor and ambience was superb. Two female staff were welcoming and great at their service. Our food was excellent. Over from Port Lincoln, never been to BG hotel, but we'll certainly be back.

Manager was rude. Food was overly salty. Spent a bit but was disappointed. Most staff was awesome but manager needs a wake up call. Won't be returning.

Happy, friendly service made our Christmas catchup with friends a thoroughly enjoyable night. Meals were amazing. Husband particularly enjoyed his Pork Tomahawk chop, cooked to perfection and my Chicken Schnitzel was tender and juicy. Full marks BGH.

Had a T-bone steak not able to eat as it was riddled with gristle. Also had the brownie for dessert full of walnuts. Couldn’t eat that either as I can not eat nuts. This needs to be stated on the menu as it could cause serious harm. However the service was excellent and the other people had great food

What a lovely lunch my friend and I had today. The meals were very yummy and all the staff so friendly and inviting. Bri and Jaccy. Andy and Charlotte couldn't have asked for a better team. Great work guys.

25 of us booked for lunch on Friday 13th December. Everyone was disappointed with the meals. Unlike last year I had to pay $50 deposit. Although the waitress said they did not have many bookings for lunch. I had to fetch water and glasses for the two long tables as no waitress was there to start. All were disappointed there was no seniors menu. Main courses were $32 plus. Only two options for Gluten Free. The special $25 menu included a cake desert but we were told no cake left and were offered a small bowl with one scoop of vanilla ice cream instead. When asked for a topping the waitress said yes she would get it but it never arrived. My pad Tai arrived very late long after everyone had theirs and it was soggy and overcooked. Needless to say we will not be going there next year but will try elsewhere.

Hotel needs to update booking procedure. Despite booking through the hotels own website they said they couldn’t see how many people I’d booked for, and we got an inadequate room. Also required a $200 deposit for the room!!! Nowhere while booking mentioned this!! BEWARE!!! Room was ok, plastering had been done recently and not finished, air conditioner sounded like a 20yr old air compressor. Bathroom was interesting to say the least, having to step around the toilet to enter/exit the shower. I would not recommend this motel, and will never return to stay there.

So it seems that Management think it’s a cost saver to not have any Bread/Rolls available at the salad bar! Bread is a staple and imo has always been a given, well it is at every other Hotel ! This is poor form, at least you have updated your menus from A4 photo copied paper to a decently presented form.

It was Steak night so we headed in to see if the Old Blue Gums had improved. Dammit alas it was not the case. Steak was burnt on the outside so all you could taste was bitter. The beef schnitzel was mystery meat thickly coated in a floury sticky crumb like substance. The gravy was lacklustre. Inside the venue I love the view and freshness of its atmosphere..but the food sucked.

Such lovely staff and great meals all with salads and veg bar. Never disappoints.

Just had my daughters 20th Birthday lunch here, this is our preferred hotel to eat in, the meals are sensational, fantastic selection & variety, serving sizes are very generous, the service is impeccable, friendly staff, very clean, & spacious dining room. Overall a fabulous experience & venue & would highly recommend.

Service great and food amazing, staff is very respectful when dealing with customers who have sticks up their asses and I'll be coming back again. In my 35 years of coming here (I'm 22) it was great

We used to come alot for dinner. We have noticed just recently you are waiting up to half and hour for meals even though not busy. We noticed people around us getting meals well before us.

Terrible food. $15 for a kids meal and it doesn’t come with Ice Cream or a soft drink.. that’s what you pay at The Meat and Wine co and they actually can cook a steak! I would have rather ate a frozen meal. Not worth the calories, money or time. Avoid!

Still great staff and service. Until recently, their food has been good as well. It's great to see the salad/veggie bar back! Well done! Unfortunately, they have recently changed their meat supplier. Their previous beef schnitzels were big and tasty. Now, their beef schnitzels are HUGE but a grey-white colour and totally tasteless. This would indicate two likelihoods: 1. The meat has been frozen for much too long - possibly months! 2. It's very unlikely to be of South Australian origin as it would be much fresher. They need to do better than this. Beef should look and taste like beef. I haven't ordered schnitzel since but their other offerings are pretty good.

Lunch on a Sunday a cpl weeks ago. Unfortunately we're a bit disappointed, waited ages for order to arrive..mughtve just been a kitchen issue. Main feedback really is recommend you buy new cutlery! Knives wouldn't cut through the grilled barramundi or Beef schnitzel..! Knives were blunt and forks too small really. Cheers.

What an amazing place! Normally when I'm away for work I just find the cheapest place close to where I need to be. I only need a bed and a nice meal. Wow is an understatement. The moment I entered this place I was treated so kindly! All the staff are amazing and an absolute asset to the owner! Even got a treat after dinner from the staff for myself and my daughter. Amenities are neat and updated for a budget room. Will be staying here again. Thank you guys!

We love the kids eat free nights! As parents who work full time, it’s nice to know we can come to a local once a week for tea without the worry of cost as my young children can eat for free. Up until a few months ago, it used to be a Wednesday, and without any warning until we actually came for dinner it had changed to a Tuesday, the same day as the trivia night! Two very different groups of customers - we used to be able to walk in without a worry, but unfortunately now, we need to book in advance, and a lot of the time it’s fully booked (Yey the blue gums!) but not soo much with family who want to go out for dinner as now we can’t get a table. As a mother of two young children I don’t want to come out on a trivia night, I do want early sittings but it soon gets crowded! Would you consider putting those two nights seperate? As mentioned above, two very different group of customers, I know friends who used to go, who don’t anymore because of this reason, and we don’t come as much as we would if it was free to get a table. I understand you do kids eat free in the other bar, but again as a mother of two young children, that to me is more of a front bar scene and no salad bar! Thank you to Jaccy, for taking my booking tonight, when I said I just want a dinner with my two young children and we will be gone before trivia! She moved a table around and let us take a table who were booked for 7! Please consider changing the kids eat free night to another day :) a lot of families would be greatly grateful!

Terrible. No service for more than 90 minutes with no update or apology. No service No food. Stay away.

Waited over 1 hour for meals only to be told they had not even started cooking them and what we ordered wasn’t even available. Took the kids to Maccas instead

blue gums had always had a certain charm that is unmatched to other local pubs, always good food (especially the renewed salad bar), fast service and fabulous atmosphere. you won’t regret dining at the blue gums.

Went for a special occasion dinner. Gave instructions to server of specific meal choices, paid extra for Sauces and changes. Waited for 53 mins for our meals to come, where the waitress grumpily plonked them on our table with no smile, no apology. It wasn't busy. Food was average. Not much food on huge plate, presentation terrible, extra Sauces didn't come, food requests were ignored but charged for, by this stage we were so hungry, we just wanted to eat and get out of there. Original plan was to have dinner and dessert, but we didn't want to wait again, we just wanted to leave. Really disappointed, won't be back.

Worst meal I've ever seen for $26 and I'm not saying I ate it. One chicken schnitzel with about 6 small chips. Yes, with nothing else. Don't go there, if you value good food and good value.

The Blue Gums has always been a favourite, but sadly it has gone downhill. We had to send a meal back last week as the steak, although cooked perfectly, was as tough as old boots. The staff were very understanding and offered us a replacement or money back. I really hope they get back to what they used to be

Dinner at the Blue Gums last night for the first time in a few months. Heard the Salad/veg bar was back so headed up there. Food was great, salad veg bar lovely but the slightly older long grey headed lady who served us through the night just didn't want to be there. Grumpy, moody, snappy, it was like we were an inconvenience to her.....She was huffing and puffing and couldn't crack a smile if she tried. When she bought the meals out she literally just dropped them in front of us - like dropped them. All of the other staff seemed really nice and almost embarrassed for her behavior. Maybe she was just having a bad night but back to the Modbury Hotel for us......

Phoned 3 times to make a dining reservation at 5.15pm on 2.7.24. No-one available to take my call. If this is how they handle bookings how on earth will they cope with menu orders

After two bad experiences 6 months ago we thought we'd give the Blue Gums another go. But sorry, 3 strikes and your out. Once again we'd booked a table for two a few days ago. Got there 5 min before our booking time and they'd given the table to someone else. Had no where to put us except on a table for 10. Rang a nearby pub and went there instead. This has happened before and the time before, was dished up a half unedible meal. Never again

Walked into the bistro & waited in line for a table, a lady with grey hair yelled out at us in front of everyone “next door ladies no room in here”, asked to sit at a table and she said just looked and said no. So rude and so much attitude, makes the place look terrible won’t be coming here ever again!

Absolute disappointment

Chips on meals were cold, the ham steak was cold but burnt in places and very thin not like any ham steak I had ever had before. The drink Lemon, Lime and Bitters we had didn't have lemonade in it but soda water. Our first time there won't be going back, went with family and friends that go approximately every 6 weeks and they all said it was the worst meal they had ever had there.

Didn't win on the pokies, but they've done the place up quite well.

Lovely freshly cooked meal of crumbed garfish and salad YUMMO! Friendly & proficient service staff & comfortable seating.

Been dining here for many years. Today I called in for lunch. Had the fish& chips I could hardly see the fish on the plate,too small fillet. Very dissapointing.

As we had to find a place to stay for Me to go to Calvert Central Districts Hospital we decided that the Blue Gums was the best of the lot, so much better than the Manhattan Motel, quieter, rooms were better. As we live in North Moonta we really enjoyed the Beautiful scenery from the room. Thank-you Blue Gums 👍👍💤💤
