Good little place for a drink and food is very nice

A wholesome venue with friendly and thoughtful staff. Good place to grab an afternoon beer or go for a bowl, without being particularly fancy. The venue is fairly low-key, the main bar is a typical, older RSL type setting. Some of the setting and decorations were more newly refurbished but others could do with an update. Food is a bit curious - hot chips and the like from the bar arrive in very small servings - but to be fair it’s reasonable for the price and they definitely make sure you’ve got enough condiments. Staff were all very welcoming and hospitable.

I had the special of the day roast beef. Two pieces of dry, thinly sliced reheated beef (I'm tipping microwaved), undercooked potatoes and pumpkin, and gravy. The one piece of pumpkin that was cooked was nice. A poor effort on getting a simple roast right.

A great night out for trivia. The host is great. Food options are very limited for people with dietary requirements.

We have been to the club a few times now We played today in the mixed pairs ,first time eating in the restaurant and was disappointed with the bruschetta it was tasteless and the aranchine balls were not good either and what’s with the 4 meter smoking rule right at the sliding door entrance that does not seem to exist??

My husband emailed the site manager on Monday the 31st of October and received a reply on Wednesday the 2nd of November enquiring about a booking for 12 for the lawn bowl at 7pm. In the reply email he received a confirmation that no booking was required and that we were allowed to use the field to a 7pm session and that they are happy to set it up for us. However, when the group arrived at 7.10 and asked for the lawn bowl to be set up the staff on shift on Thursday the 3rd of November refused to set up the lawn bowl for us because ‘it will take too long and it will be dark soon’. This poor organisation and communication between the management and staff team resulted in 12 people wasting their time and petrol driving to Croydon from near and far suburbs only to have the night spoilt by the staff’s laziness and lack of communication. If they did set up we would have been able to play for at least 30mins and stayed for a hearty meal unfortunately this was not the case… I sincerely hope that this feedback helps the sports club to provide better experiences for their customers.

I found this place by accident but we are a member of Wests! I'll start with the drinks. They are probably the cheapest I've seen in Sydney. The staff were all friendly and cheerful. The place could probably do with a make over but that is what probably gives it the charm. The bowling greens looked great. The food we had was all good. The steak was slightly tough and a little over done but no complaints. Over all a nice little secret gem.

Although it may not look like a 5 star hotel, the service there can be almost 6 stars. All staff there are wonderful and they always have the time to chat and look after each patrons needs. I haven't written a review before but I felt the need to tell the world about the staff at Wests Sports Croydon. A special mention to Pamela, she's a star, and can't forget Shaun :)

Had our work christmas party here and an enjoyable time was had by all. Started with $10pp barefoot bowls. All the equipment was set out before we arrived and we had a whole green to ourselves. The bar staff were very friendly and provided us with jugs of iced water. We had dinner at the Amici Family Bistro. The service was prompt for our group of 9 as we ate early at around 6pm. The portions were huge and prices very reasonable. The chicken parmigiana sauce was delicious and the best I've ever had. Can tell its a homemade recipe. The restaurant got busy at around 7pm. Thanks Wests Sports for making our end of year corporate gathering fun and stress free.

Great local. Ben the manager is fantastic. Steak, chips and salad was delicious. Reasonable prices. Great for a cosy, easy dinner out.

Like the way it's run

$5.30 schoonies is pretty great. Definitely needs more different beers on tap, would be fanging for a Newtowner on tap.

Great club for a nice meal in the restaurant or a cold drink. Lawn bowls is available if your wanting a game. Barefoot bowls is fun to play. Staff are very friendly.

$12 each for these spring rolls and dim sims !!!!!!!!!!! Won't be eating again there at that price..

Absolutely fantastic day. Organised son's 21st birthday at the last minute as booked venue fell through. So fortuitous. Ben was so accommodating and the bar staff and Mel at Charles Bistro were legendary too. Thank you all for the best family celebration. Will definitely be coming back. Charles Bistro catering was also first class.

Excellent food and service. A bit annoying that drinks have to be ordered at the bar and no food orders taken at the table. Orders taken at a desk.

The Charles restaurant served lovely tasty food for our Father's day lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed the Sri Lankan chicken curry, delicious as was the garlic prawns with chilli, the panko squid and the Malaysian satay chicken. Recommended

A real shame they kicked out the garden bistro restaurant, all because they want to put more pokies in. The garden bistro was the best bit about the place. They make out they are serving the community, but clearly they are just keen on scamming people out of their money. Will never go again.

Shame on you Wests for forcing the closure of the The Retreat Garden Bistro to make room for more pokies! My family and I have been going to this beautiful family restaurant for many years. We have loved coming down for an afternoon beer in the sun, getting involved in the meat raffle and having a great feed at the restaurant. This is a huge loss for the community! The Retreat Garden Bistro will be missed by many.

The good ol bowlo. Playing lawn bowls here is great and the staff are friendly, and the patrons are happy!!

Wests is our local bowling club with restaurant on the corner of Croydon rd and Queen st. The club is mot big but the atmosphere is cheerful and much more personal than some of Sydneys mega clubs. There is all the usual club stuff, pokies, lucky draws etc but what sets it off is the good Italian Restaurant the Retreat. Their food is interesting and reasonably priced. I particularly like their spagetti marinara. Off street Parking is right out the front. Certainly worth checking out.

This is my second home were i play bowls and have a drink with mates. Come on down and enjoy a game.

It has to be one of the best little clubs in the inner west the retreat restaurant is one of the best i have been to. The pastas are always excellent and especially their homemade gnocci and tagliatelli with a choice of sauces to many to mention we always have our family functions their and the proprietor is always friendly and easy to accommodate you and friendly staff try it you will be surprised.
