Service excellent and the food was delicious.

I attended dinner on my first night in town after a recommendation from my host. I ordered satay chicken skewers, the chicken was nice but the skewers were burnt through and didn't look to have been soaked leaving my mouth full of burnt splinters, I advised the waitress but it seemed my feedback was unwanted and was falling on deaf ears. Next was the scotch fillet, didn't seem like a good cut and was overcooked, there were a few good bits but most of it was left behind. Walked out hungry spending a further $5.50 at Macca's to satisfy my hunger on top of the $72 I had already paid. Pretty sure it's right up there with my worst dining experience while interstate. I won't ever be back.

Did not hve dinner menu available at 6pm - crazy coz that's when customers come to eat. More so when out of towners hve to eat and rely on Google information

Food here is amazing, they have two rooms to dine in so if you want a quiet dinner you can eat up front, the servace here is too good! They were so friendly and started friendly conversations. Highly recommend!.

Horrible we ordered chicken parmigiana sauce was yuck like it was out of a tin and so sweet child ordered pizza same sauce as chicken yuck I ordered a scotch mid spose to be chips and salad got some square potato thing must of been a week old and steak was so charged it left a Horrible taste so let down

I was very disappointed in the meal I received at the Austral on Friday night 6/9 I ordered whiting in tempura batter which was $34 the batter was over cooked and tasted burnt and the fish was dry and the portion size was very small unfortunately I will not be going back in a hurry 😔

The worst food I have ever eaten at a ridiculous price. Everybody’s meal had a mistake with it and The last person’s meal came out when everyone had finished eating and we were only a table of four. They really need to get another chef and change things because it was appalling.

As a professional chef, I am appalled by the catastrophic level of incompetence displayed. Every steak served was not only overcooked but also seemed to have been prepared by someone who has no business being in a kitchen. The food was a bland, tasteless disgrace, and it was clear that no care or skill went into its preparation. The chef’s lack of concern was evident, and it’s apparent that this establishment is run by someone who has long since lost any sense of professionalism or pride in their work. The entire meal felt like a cruel joke, with each course being a testament to how far standards have fallen. To make matters worse, the prices were shockingly exorbitant for food that was not just mediocre but downright insulting. The Austral is the epitome of what can go wrong in a restaurant, and it’s a place that should seriously consider shutting its doors. If you value your dining experience, do yourself a favour and stay far away from this establishment.

I enjoyed an eye fillet steak for my meal. Best juicy succulent steak I've ever eaten with a red wine jus that I could eat for days. Amazing meal.

Generally it’s a nice meal sometimes spectacular other times, such as tonight, just ordinary. Had the roast lamb. Thick cut slices of fatty, dry lamb. Why isn’t there more care taken with meal consistency. We often have a great meal, then have great expectations, only to be let down…..again. We’ll be back but it will probably be a while before we’re game enough.

I had the fish and it was disgusting !! Deep fried and hardly any fish inside $28 it cost !! The stir fry was bland and meat was tuff !! The meals were below standard at a high price !! Don’t bother!!!

Exceptional. The chicken roulade was impeccable. Juicy, well seasoned. The highlight though, surprisingly, were the roasted veg. This was no ordinary roast veg. It was very hearty and varied. Great work team!

Extremely disappointed and disgusted. We ordered Nachos. The Nachos served to us was a horrendously fatty, slimy brisket with artificial cheese. Totally inedible. We advised the waitress to provide feedback to the ‘chef’. No response! Thank goodness we didn’t order extra food. Very very disappointed ☹️

Food was delicious. Southern fried chicken burger and a Parma. Staff were super friendly, atmosphere was very modern and restaurant hygiene was good.

First of all I was absolutely shocked at a charge ($10) for them to hold a cake for you. Hosting birthday parties brings customers in. Knowing this I will never go there, I only went because I was invited to the party. The food wasn’t terrible but definitely nothing special, nearly $40 for small cutlets on an uneven bed of couscous and rocket (they spell it roquette to sound fancy), definitely not worth it!. They charge $8 for a side of plain rice?! The place was unbelievably loud, anyone with sensory issues beware! For such an expensive place I would expect better service, you’ve gotta line up to place your order which is fine but for a pub that charge’s ridiculous prices I’d expect more. Disgusted by this place.

Felt very welcome from the moment I stepped in. Friendly staff who are full of personality. Some of the cooking staff are from Nepal, and, as emphasised in other reviews, were those known as Gurkhas, formidable soldiers. My late father David Baird (1923-1994) was in the 9th Gurkha Rifles and was one of Orde Wingate's Chindits.

This place was ok. Nothing too special and the prices were a little high for the quality of food. But on our way back from the National Park to Melbourne, it was a good stop halfway through the drive. They also had a vegan menu which was nice to find in Colac.

Party of about 20. There wasn't a table big enough when we were in the bar so they moved us to the dining room staff were friendly and helpful

Whether you're a senior or not I would NEVER recommend this hotel for a meal. No Seniors' menu, no atmosphere, lack of service, uncomfortable seating, dirty cutlery, and they can't even get your meal order correct? If you enjoy receiving meals for a group of 4 friends being served separately at ten minute intervals, cold steaks, raw vegetables and paying almost $50 for a small steak or dry chicken fillets - eat here...🙄 Disgustingly bad! 🤢😡

We went there for lunch, we ordered scotch fillet steak and pork ribs.. The place was beautifully renovated. The scotch fillet was cooked beautifully. But the pork ribs was a disappointment, it is more like a braised ribs rather than bbq ribs. We love the place and will be back again. But won’t order the ribs anymore, hopefully it will be improve.

Fantastic to have so many vegan options in Colac, the tofu steak would be best with something like rice and broccoli. The plant based schnitzel was really good and my young step daughter happily ate the whole plant based burger. Also great, friendly service from the floor staff. Will definitely be back when visiting the area next time. Cheers for the beers!

The best spot hands down in terms of service and food in Colac. The food was brought out together for the 3 of us, and we all agreed, It was amazing. The polite and friendly service is first class and that these days is hard to find. I am from Warrnambool and it's worth the drive.
