Old pub on main road, meet up place if you are going to the cricket, it’s on South Dowling Street, edge of Surrey hills and Redfern, corner of Cleveland street, so some traffic noises. Typical pub food, so good for a feed and a Beer.

Fijne privé kamer boven het restaurant. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk, gedeelde ruimtes worden goed bijgehouden en zijn erg schoon. Verder is het een goede centrale locatie!

Nice place, chill vibes, cheap, well located

It was better with the last owners. At least with the last owner the service was friendly and the food was affordable.

We organised our Christmas party at The Bat and Ball and they went above and beyond for us. We had a private area booked and we felt really looked after. The restaurant made fantastic food and the location was fabulous! We will be visiting again.

Friendly staff, nice renovation that still retains plenty of old pub charm. Great selection of beer and wine. Games room is ace.

The staff are friendly and the rooms are basic but very clean. No air conditioning was only a problem because I had to leave the window open and South Dowling Street gets really busy at night. The facilities are all shared but clean enough. It’s basically a backpackers.

Lovely food and great atmosphere. Nice relaxed pub meal. I can’t comment on the accommodation but I’m sure it’s well renovated.

I went to Trivia on Monday hosted by Dan. We had a great time and it was a fun and exciting take with classic pub trivia and some game shows. Great atmosphere and Dan was an amazing host

Only had drinks here

The food was a massive upgrade from before. In fact, it borders on a lil bougie. The cost follows, somewhat unaffordable to the everyday punter. Good for a nice time, not everytime.

Wow!! Thursday $20 Steaks! But what time and money wasted having dinner here. When asked if I could have my steak medium, was told can only be done medium rare and possibly medium. Not the friendliest of service from the guy behind the bar. When my steak was served, not only was it tiny, but it was tough as hell. Never again thank you very much!!!

Cheap beers

Used to be the best wings in Sydney. These days you can get similar wings for cheaper just about anywhere in Sydney.

Love it! The best thing to happen to the area (and that corner) in a long time. Staff are super friendly, great wine, and food isn't too bad either.

My partner and I had the “Sunday roast”. Bat and ball, although it tasted nice, that was not a Sunday roast. It was merely chicken with veg and mashed potato. Just because you slapped a Yorkshire pudding on there doesn’t count it as a roast. Additionally, it was over priced. A roast dinner constitutes of roast potatoes , gravy from the meat, cauliflower cheese and stuffing typically accompanies chicken. The roast was much better before you renovated.

Probably, the only place in Sydney where you can't choose how you want you steak done. I didn't even get to eat in this place because the only way they cook the steak is medium rare. I explicitly requested if they can make it medium well, and they said, nope, only medium rare 😂 OK, then, I'll eat somewhere else...

The Bat & Ball is the kind of pub that gets everything right—great food, atmosphere, and exceptional service. I recently visited for Pasta Night and had the Beef Ragu, which was absolutely out of this world! The food here consistently exceeds expectations, and the drinks menu is equally impressive, with great cocktails and various beers on tap. What really makes this place shine, though, is the service—friendly and attentive, even when it’s busy. It’s the perfect spot for a cheeky drink and delicious feed!

Tuesday night, $17 chicken schnitzel with cheese. Fair quality, good value. Beers are $10 each.

Great $20 Steak Night on Thursday. Good size serve, well cooked (MedRare) and flavoursome tender steak. Staff always fabulous.

The gravy served with the schnitty claimed to be KFC gravy however ours tasted like tomato soup (and was orange in colour) a bit strange! The chicken was lovely though

Came here with a group of friends. A nice pub inside. They have some good specials on certain days but the servings are not that big so you might need to order an extra course if you are hungry. Food quality is good though.

Love what they have done with the Bat & Ball. Another great local for the Redfern hood. We had an early Fri dinner and the vibe was perfect. Not too noisy even tho it was busy. Food was super tasty and quick plus the pinot gris was lovely and not super expensive. Perfection guys!!

It’s the best parmy I have ever had, hands down. It was truly phenomenal. Hadi, harry, Hayley, Dynn, bella and the whole team were outstanding and provided supreme hospitality. I come here all the time and can’t wait to come back every time !

Bonzer tucker and bosker decor.

Great spot. Enjoyable atmosphere. Devoid of pokies. Prices seem high but really aren't compared to other pubs. Particularly when the beers aren't subsidised by pokie money. Wine selection is discerning and great value! Can get a nice bottle for a lot cheaper than it would be at a fancy restaurant. And darts. Thanks to the team.

Great experience. I booked the Bat and Ball for a family lunch of 8 for a Sunday lunch. Delicious food, extremely friendly service and great vibe. So glad it has been done up tastefully in-keeping with the history of the pub. Well done team, we will certainly be back!

The schnitzel you’ve made is INCREDIBLE. The staff were so friendly and happy. I LOVE what you’ve done with the place and I am confident you’ll be around for a long time.

Good stop before the AFL game. Staff were patient and nice. The oysters were a bargain but drinks slightly pricey (central prices for you). Good old school boozer overall and would recommend as a stop before going to Moore Park.

Very disappointed in the remodel. They’ve taken the pub out of a traditional pub. Two TVs for sport, menu is weird as they tried to go fancy at a pub. Oysters? No beef or chicken burger? Parmy only on Wednesdays? They need to remember this is a pub on a highway for sports. Leave it at that.

Loved the vibe, love the renovation, loved the beer and being with friends bit did NOT love the over salted chips. Our table plus friends who’d also dined here all commented on food being ‘too salty’. It was the chips

Great renewal of the Bat and Ball. Pub food is excellent. Pork chop and chicken schnitzel high calibre on our Friday night visit. Dogs welcome so will be making it a regular with our Labrador

Have enjoyed this pub now on two occasions since it’s re-opened and will be back. Love the old school Sydney pub feel, this is a place where you can feel the history and soul. The bar service is professional and friendly, the food is fast and tasty.
