Good for cheap cheap spirits, perfect for 18 yrs old. I can’t stay there because the music is way too cheesy.

first time in hobart, bar staff amazing!!

I was deeply disappointed with my experience at this venue. Upon arrival, all men were asked to lift their tops for security checks. While I understand the need for safety measures, this approach was intrusive, disrespectful, and poorly handled.

Not too bad, did repeat the songs though 😵‍💫 Should have cheaper drinks or free entry as I think it would increase attention. Enjoyed the smokers area though!!

a great bar and atmosphere i love it here!!!

Probably the worst bouncers and management I have ever encountered at a nightclub. Bouncers are rude, aggressive, antagonistic and generally unprofessional, bouncers are supposed to make a place feel safe and welcoming, yet here they seem to want the opposite. I wonder how many instances of violence here could have been avoided if the bouncers didn’t escalate situations with their confrontational and unprofessional attitudes. Then management don’t understand simple drink orders and overcharge for flat mixers and watered down spirits. On top of all this, they will cut ticketed events short on a whim, spray customers with water, close the smoking area without warning and invent reasons to not allow sober, calm and well behaved people into the venue. Avoid at all costs unless you want to experience disappointment and aggressive bogans who only want to try and ruin people’s night’s - and then there’s the regular punters who come here 🤢🔪

1 star is too high. This place is horrific. And the bouncers bruised my arm when they stamped it.

Absolutely terrible management :/, whoever the short manager was has a God complex and gets off on denying valid id, since when is the only acceptable id a drivers license 🙃

Really rude bouncers. Absolutely mean and unnecessarily snarky.

Really sexist bouncers, all my friends where let in and where off their faces but because I wasn’t looking happy they didn’t let me go in. Disgraceful behaviour, my friends wanted me to go in with them to make sure nothing would happen to them and I had to wait 45 minutes to “get better” bouncers just ruined my weekend. Extremely unhappy with this “friendly” club. Do not go here with a ounce of sadness they will not let you in. I do not recommend this place. Fix your bouncers

The DJs are stale as hell and won't play anything released past 2013.

Attitude of the bouncers is absolutely disgusting- my boyfriend was denied entry to the club last night due to the type of shoes he was wearing, which happened to be his work boots. Personally I think bouncers should focus more on the types of shoes that will actually do damage, which is the toothpick thin heels that all the girls wear that I have genuinely seen puncture other peoples feet before. At the end of the day I honestly never expected bouncers to care more about shoes than public intoxication and people doing hard drugs in line. I’ve worked in bars before and our main customers are tradies, which my boyfriend is not, and I can assure that “work boots” are most definitely not on the no entry list. They just want to deny people entry for their own enjoyment.

Going to Obar was a fun experience, I hadn't been there since they moved to the new spot and it is a lot nicer. There is much more space and honestly the only thing that kinda sucks is all the stairs but once you get past that it's a pretty good venue. The drinks are low - mid process depending on what you get and the vibes are pretty good!

If I could get married in Obar, I would.

This is the best under 18s disco I've ever been to! There's nothing I love more than obscenely cheesey 00s music. Will serve anything to anyone! The piss Ocean in the toilets is of particular scenic interest. If you want to feel 17 again I would highly recommend.

If you’re after a plague of 18 year olds screaming and vomiting on one another while the bouncers carry on like they’re the special forces then you’ve come to the right place. The staff have no moral compass and will serve anything to anyone while the DJ booth is a glorified drug den. Overall, gross/10.

Pleasant surroundings

I wasn’t sure about this place after looking at the reviews, however tried it out anyway. I was surprised that the security was actually really friendly and we struck up a good conversation. The “earlybird” drinks were amazingly cheap and they filled glasses to the rim. The music was okay although it got very repetitive as it just felt like a lot of pop with notes of techno which you could tell the crowd was hungry for but the dj never went fully into that sort of music despite it getting much later into the night. I know you can’t cater for everyone but I think it could have changed the energy in a good way. Overall, this place seems to have a bad wrap in the reviews but it was not like people make it out on here. If you’re young and in Hobart on a weekend i’d recommend trying this place out.

The bouncers are so rude to you. They tried to kick me and my friends out on my 21st. I’ll never come back until the bouncers have more respect for people

The floor stuck to me more than my ex girlfriend.

Been to bars all over Melbourne and tas and this is the only one to refuse service for wearing shorts

I almost got rejected from entering obar at around 11:45 pm last night because the indian bouncer didn't accept my ID (drivers license). I am 20 years old, and my driver's licence and a credit card are all I carry with me on a night out. The bouncer was very rude, yet I stayed calm and collected as my ID was valid and real. I understand my hair has grown a little longer, and I was wearing make-up that night, but that should not excuse the rudeness I experienced. Get better security guards, please and ones that can read ID correctly.

If I could 0 star,I would be happy to give. The security guards are racist. My friend (girl) was harraser and she complained twice but thy do nothing. My anothetr fren (guy) tried to protect her but guard's (Indian) took my fren out for what reason? Racist guard coz the harrasing guy was Indian as well.

Went to Observatory Bar, or as the locals call it “O-Bar”, on a Saturday night. Was fun but I think they might be cramming too many people into the building. Long waits at the bar, couldn’t move on the dance floor, and the DOSA was chockas too.

Very rude bouncers

Good night club. Staff are decently courteous. But would be better if they played Red Light Green Light more often.

Get not let in for literally no reason, incredibly frustrating when you just want to have a good time

Staff are so rude for no reason

The bouncer here with beanie( I think he is Indian) he is so rude to my husband just shouting and pushing my partner without telling anything when my husband just dancing with me. He just mad.. I think this lie rate of this club only because of him. I’d this club throw him out this club be the best..

Joke of a night club, terrible owners, consistently overcharges

Got kicked out for no reason. Asked several security guards why I was kicked out (in a non aggressive manor) and every time was told to ask another security guard. Terrible place with poor operations!

The bouncers here are sooo rude.. We waited in line n when I was asked for I.d he then said sorry your to toxicated to wait 15 mins.. So I went back n he’s like na sorry u can’t come in..mean while I was fine n cause fact I’m 42 n was having night out with some girls this was only said after he had looked at my age..I then said if I was 18 skinny n had short skirt on I’d b fine to go in.. Yea well pretty much.. Never known such a discrimination place in my life

group of 7 of us,,, 1/7 is from Cuba (and is of dark Caucasian) and didn't get let in for appearing in active wear clothing!!!???? if you could see what our mate is wearing you'd be spewing

Damn only one Bar in town

Front door bouncers tried to turn me away because I looked different to my license due to weight loss; An unbelievable excuse which was offensive. Plus the drinks were way too expensive for watered downed liquid. Other than that, everything else was okay.

Don't do $3 shots anymore, real disappointment, was the only real reason I'd chose to go to O-Bar.

Rude and disrespectful

Get your toilet clean guys

This place offends me

Are you 18-20 years old? This is the place for you. Go before 11 and get smashed off $3 spirits then dance the night away to music from your generation. Are you over 20? You won't recognise any of the music except for maybe one banger from your past once an hour, where the 18 year olds will look around in confusion. Being back Isobar!

Cheap shots is the only good thing about this place. Have a few and move on elsewhere.

Racial profiled friend at door = rejection + graying 70 year old wrath on the D floor. 0/10 would not bang, security guards possible crypto-fascist?

Fun place to party

Not bad

Got smashed, spent $300 without even knowing it. These guys couldn't give a toss about rsa. Make money...money!

Younger crowd here. Good if that is what u are looking for.

Rude bouncers rude staff and overly watered down drinks

Up-to-date music, the bar that's mostlikely a club in Hobart

Over croweded. Dirty floor. Tacky music. Expensive drinks. Too many omg I've turned 18" teenagers."

To the security 👍👍👍👍👍for helping a young lady access in a wheelchair n being treated with the dignity she deserves.

If you're a fan of sticky floors, loud thumping music, and a large game of sardines, then The observatory (or O bar) is for you.
