Perfectly cooked rib eye fillet and eye fillet medallions, and the linguini marinara was the best we've ever had. Friendly staff, cosy old pub atmosphere. Definitely recommended to anyone visiting Warrnambool.

Very flavoursome meals, seafood linguine & prawns risotto were exceptional. Lovely old pub that has maintained its heritage beautifully. Very helpful staff. A wonderful venue for live music upstairs. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal & night out. Will definitely return for a meal and a show.

My server was jeff and he helped assist all of our “complaints” my food was forgotten but got it as soon as I brought it up. Jeff was a great server who had to stay for a long time extra. #givejeffaraise

Slightly higher than average prices for definitely lower than average food. Wrong drinks, cold food and a waiter that asked and was answered the same question three times. Has a big cross from us.

I have eaten here many times when working away from home. I actually look forward to dining here, usually great service and great meals. Twice this week the service has been terrible. Tonight, the steak I order was so tough I could barely cut a slice with a sharp serrated steak knife. Out of curiosity I push the whole meal to the side, only 1 slice of meat removed from the plate. Multiple staff members walked passed. After 25mins a staff member asked if I was done, I look at her and said it was terrible. She took the plate and left. Haha. How ridiculous and funny at the same time. I guess people really do hate there jobs. This is / was the last time I’ll be attending this venue. Such a shame.

Three for dinner .. damn brilliant. Lobster Roll, Seniors Portland Gummy and chips and Crayfish Prawn and Champagne Rissotto. Absolutely lovely. Also tried a new cocktail .. not sure of name but whiskey based with grenadine ... fantastic even from this non loving whiskey person. Put that cocktail on the list !! The staff and service were sensational, great hospitality !! Must do in Warrnambool!!

Lovely venue and very busy with good atmosphere. Ordered a Parma, for $32 but wanted chips and veg not salad, which was extra $10 (42 total) was told this is the price of veggies! I buy veggies every week!! That is ridiculous!

The place is nice but unfortunately not much else was. My steak was ordered rare but came mostly medium well. The garlic prawns were lackluster but well cooked, the potato was soggy, and the wait staff had set the table with only one set of cutlery. More that that, the salad included a hunk of cos lettuce, heart and all. Cos needs to be washed to remove grit and I don't believe that's possible when served like that. It strikes me as lazy. Also, they forgot our drinks and gave no apology when I had to ask where they were well after the meal was served. These are little things and not hard to get right, but they add up - especially when paying $60+ for the food. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this experience isn't the norm, but for people coming for one night, it's very disappointing.

Beautiful pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Dining room is a great room and you don't feel crowded in. Probably the most generous seniors meals we have encountered. Highly recommended

Great dining area with great old style pub atmosphere. Roast Pork was a healthy serving and the Abalone was delightful.

Popped in for dinner with a mate. The food was as bad as I have had. Cremated chips with dry as death chicken. The pepper sauce was pretty bad too. The service is pretty average with the bar lass giving me agro when I messed up ordering with the QR. With so many options in Warrnambool I’d give it a miss…

Very overpriced with food not being overly spectacular. Most staff were good but there was one lady who was quite rude to my friends while they were ordering their food.

A hundred years ago I lived in Warrnambool for a few years while studying university. The Whalers Inn was our go-to waterhole for a drinking (especially on a Wednesday night) and a pub meal. These days, while the exterior facade hasn’t changed, the interior’s had a smick reno and operating costs assisted by the introduction of pokie machines. The bistro is pleasant and attended by an older clientele. Their menu has solid pub food favourites such as steaks, roast of the day, para, sausage and mash etc, but there’s also surprises like goat gnocchi, lamb biryani and a dedicated section for abalone. The Eye Fillet Medallion was a decent meal which had the steak come out on a thick, heavily garliced potato rosti, with boiled tomatoes, broccolini and a peppercorn jus. My only feedback was that I found the jus unbalanced in flavour and texture. It was quite watery. Something didn’t go well with the reduction. Nevertheless well worth a visit and you can imagine that for major sporting events or Summer weekend, the Whalers would be heaving.

Had a perfect corner window table for our anniversary dinner. Food and service were first class - seafood risotto and road pork. Great atmosphere with friendly and helpful service

Both of us had the most generous (and delicious) seniors roast we’d ever seen. Our other guests enjoyed their choices too. Love the olden days atmosphere of this magnificent building.

Great vibes and nightlife vibes on Saturday. (Triple J ONS weekend) food service was I’m assuming longer than usual. A function upstairs and influx of people. Got a complimentary drink. Staff were great and returned after the festival it was open to late. Which turned into a night club upstairs

Beautiful meal. I had the Senior's fish and chips and salad. Massive piece of perfectly cooked fish with a beautiful Cos lettuce salad. Different from a lot of salads but really nice for a change

$52 steak special , steak was good but left the sides in the kitchen had better steaks at worse pubs for much less . Offered a drink for compensation but I was on the way out

Regularly frequent for a meal and the last 3 visits the food has not been good. Over dressed food, over cooked food and sadly, an overall lacking of the finesse & consistency that used to make this pub worth a visit.

After a very long drive all we wanted was a good feed. We went into whalers and could tell rather quickly we mite not get a table. The waitress managed to find us a spot which we were so grateful for. The meals were excellent and so big. I had the roast lamb and there was so much meat i couldnt eat it all definitely worth the money. Thanks for a great experience and for feeding us before the hanger kicked in

Howdy. Had the chicken Parma. Was dry and flavourless. Cheese was burnt and disgusting. Ordered a drink that took 10 minutes to arrive even after I went to the bar to ask for it. Service on entry was good. Then the downhill slide happened. Will not be returning. Save your money and go somewhere better

Pleasantly welcomed. That's the best thing I can say. Had to be one of the worst meals that I have ever had. I don't know how you can burn a steak on the outside and it still be nearly raw inside. If I hadn't already paid at the bar I would have refused to pay

Mum and I are out of towners in Warrnambool for the weekend and came to The Whalers Hotel for dinner. Mum ordered the roast beef and enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to the seafood linguini after seeing it on the website but learnt it had been replaced by the seafood risotto so I ordered that instead. Unfortunately it was a little disappointing. Way too much lemon in it and it seemed a bit watery. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was very comfortable. The other meals that people were ordering looked delicious but was just a little let down by the risotto.

Great meal and hospitality here. Enjoyed the roast of the day and a Wagyu steak sandwich. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Really enjoyed my chicken Parma. My mate had a roast of the day and I had food envy. Two top meals. Friendly and helpful staff. Quick service. Cold beer. I'll be back.

A lovely old pub in the heart of Warrnambool. Decor is stylish yet retaining the old world charm of former days. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the menu offers a great range of food options. Our meals were generous, tasty and very well presented. Visited twice in our brief stay in Warrnambool.

Excellent meal here, with spot on service and a great ambience in this lovely coastal city. The steak was great, and my colleague had the surf n turf and also could not speak highly enough of it. A great range of beers and wines as well.

The meal was OK, but eye filet medallions were not great. First time at your hotel and was not told to order meals at the bar, but worked it out waiting for some time. The staff in general were young and inexperienced. The young man behind the bar had no idea about drink service. If you tell someone that the tonic water you were served was flat you would expect a new drink not a sorry and walk off. Great location and good atmosphere perhaps some more experience behind the bar would increase the rating.

We haven't been to The Whalers Hotel for 20yrs. We had a beautiful meal. Service was timely and it certainly had the vibe of the place to be. We wont wait so long next time!
