Good burgers, nice beer :)

So, wow. We went here for a last minute option to avoid paying $40 for a ragu at the Casino. We had previously gone to a highly reputable steak place on Currie and weren't overly impressed. I had previously enjoyed the Black Bull hotel for their $10 lunch and thought - why not? I am so glad I did. It was simply incredible. Fisherman Dave ordered the rump and it was spectacular. No complaints, only love. The drink was larger than a pint - couldn't finish it. I ordered the $38 special wagyu and it was divine, with the garlic cream cheese, perfect beer battered chips and the salad. Couldn't finish it. Fisherman Dave also ordered an entree which was calamari - also lightly battered to perfection with a delicious aioli. This visit really tipped the scales as the best place we had eaten during our recent trip to Adelaide. Oh, bonus stars for the chilled service and the outstanding music on offer! I searched Google Maps for a steakhouse and it recommended this place. Although the staff was very friendly, I cannot recommend this place as a good place to get a steak. I ordered an Angus steak, it was very fatty and not worth the price paid for it. The front doors were open and no matter where I sat in the place you could smell the cigarette smoke coming in from the street.

Swung past on the weekend and like always absolutely amazing service from the staff behind bar. But there was an Intoxicated promo girl, I believe her name was Lainey. Saw her hop over the bar a few times and also the disrespect of blowing kisses to my man in front of me was disgusting & pick me girl behaviour. Get it sorted girl! Other than that everything else was great !!!

A group of 11 of us had dinner here recently after hearing good reviews about the steak offers. For starters we had the potato wedges and salt n pepper calamari to share. We also had two bottles of red wine and numerous glasses of beer. We had a variety of 7 different type of beef steak, 2 kangaroo steak, a barramundi with chips and a chicken parmigiana. Everyone having the beef steak commented their steak was cooked nicely. The barramundi was great too and so was the chicken parmigiana. However the two having the kangaroo steak commented their steak was quite dry as they ate into it as there was not enough sauce. They poured some of their red wine onto it so that they could finished it. Overall, everyone agreed they enjoyed their choices. Service was good but not exceptional.

Always come down for Victory vs United and the owner sorts fans out with discounted beverages, it’s easily the best spot on an away day

Great atmosphere for dinner with a selection of areas to sit and eat. Came back again next night to try more. Calamari was sensationally cooked. Snitzel was chunky and tasty. Chips are so nice too. Serve jugs of soft drinks for kids. Happy hour was a nice surprise.

Came here for dinner with 2 of my friends.walked past a poster advertising their tomahawk...unfortunately when we enquired about it we were told it was sold out.so we decided on 2 other steaks totalling to 1.5kg of meat! Steaks were pretty decent but the accompanying sauces were very good..we had the pepper sauce and wine jus. Might consider coming back again to try the tomahawk.

It was a lovely pub in Hindley Street for a meal before going out. Great prices. Food is cooked well and presented beautifully. Plenty of friendly staff. Not too loud with music, which allows for conversation. It's a Wednesday, so it could be louder later in the week. A baby peacefully asleep on the next table. We will definitely eat here again. Might even be on a weekend.

Very bad FOH service. Introduced us to a table, sat us down, ignored us. We went to order food at the bar, she left the bar unattended. She saw us waiting at the bar, however continue ignored the customers. When come to order the food. She told us the kitchen closed, however she supposed to tell the customers in advance. She then told her work collegue to tell us that the kitchen was closed. I have never experienced this lack of care customer service. Avoid if you can.

Had the pleasure of coming to this place last weekend and still can’t get over it! Had the absolute best steak of my life. So nice tender and juicy while the misses had the big and juice black bull burger. Absolutely lovely atmosphere and food and service. Everyone there treats you so well. Had the pleasure of being served by this one lad who looked like Dillon dannis. Would definitely recommend. Great food. Great drink choices. Absolutely amazing

Very disappointed. Ordered the rump steak and got served a huge piece of chewy fat. Brought this to the attention of a server and was told nothing can be done because the rump has a lot of fat. Didn't have this problem at a different restaurant with the rump steak a few days prior. Poor customer service when trying to resolve the issue. Find somewhere else to spend your money.

This is a favourite pub of ours when we visit Adelaide. We always get a decent porterhouse steak cooked right and the sticky date pudding is a nice finisher. I recommend you book a table as the restaurant isn't large and every time we have been there it has been busy. They have a huge beer garden but you have to collect your meals from inside. They are a little light on their wines and don't have any fortified wines for finishers but they do have a good selection of beers.

Staff is respectful and had some beers great pub. Would come back again.

Great little (well quite big) place in the heart of Adelaide. Service was great. Pizza lovely, steak 100% tasty! The bar man forgot to put my order through as he thought I was waiting for my wife (she was out the back ordering the wood fired pizza from the Beer Garden) - so gave me a free Corona 😀 Great food. Great pricing. EXCELLENT food.

We went in to have a Tomahawk steak 🥩 tonight and we loved it the best steak we have ever had the food was very nice , the waiters and atmosphere was great highly recommended 😊

The place is a little too dark, but the staff, the drinks and the burgers are amazing!!

$60 rib eye Steak was tough as, veg was cold and gritty, and prawns were over cooked. Told staff who said they would tell the chef and got no feedback from there! Couldn’t eat any more and went home hungry. Very disappointing.

Ordered beef parmy made with a bolognese sauce and cheese Fantastic Rump steak cooked perfectly. Vegetables were a surprise Roast carrots and parsnips broccoli and zucchini with a slice of red capsicum Fantastic Recommend the meals Also, nice thick napkin was great. Not a cheap paper one 😊👍🏽

The site dates back to 1838 and is also known as oldest hotel in Adelaide but we were here for the steaks 🥩 and pale ale 🍺. Over the past 3 years, Chef Jacob van Eyk and his team have created a wonderful culinary menu of modern Australian grub and serve quality steaks! Love the steaks 👍🏼

Great tasting food and friendly staff. My personal recommendation is the Kangaroo! Nice front bar with a restaurant and a big screen stables area out back and afterwards we were able to go upstairs and enjoy the nightclub!

3 of us had an evening meal at the Black Bull, and we found it was a nice atmosphere, but it was busy at the time so it pays to book a table. 2 of us had 500gram steaks and the 3rd had the kilo steak. All the steaks were cooked to our liking and were delicious. After the steaks we still found room for desert, so enjoyed deserts to finish off the night. Meals were great and the staff were friendly. Would go again.

Huge portions, lovely food and great value

Hubby and I visiting for the golf. Ate here twice. Special shout out for the steaks, amazing quality at reasonable prices. Also would like to mention the staff and service, happy & very friendly each time, makes all the difference. We'll be back next year.

Honestly the best steak I’ve had in Australia and been here 6 years now! Quality food, reasonable price, friendly and efficient service, and tasty food! Highly recommend!

Best steak of my life at this place

After trying many designer foods on my trip to lovely Adelaide, I was craving a pub meal, in particular a steak & veggies. I had a rump steak cooked to perfection, mash & veggies with mushroom sauce. My sometimes food, I expect the best and it could not have been more perfect. Friendly staff, reasonable prices. Congratulations Black Bull Hotel on keeping it real.

Wanted to have steak here was told to find a table being solo every-time l went to order lost table told try beer garden they only sold pizzas there disappointed with staff and lack of service provided For customer so had no meal left to find somewhere that provides service to customers

Food really nice! Enjoyed our dinner. I want to give a special shoutout to Nathan who was clearly doing the most work out of all the staff. He was cleaning tables, serving food, helping customers. Absolute asset to this hotel. Great work Nathan you deserve to be recognised.

What an absolutely fantastic steak service was great. Only thing maybe was when they started packing up tables for the nightclub upstairs but I'll definitely be going back

Have a lunch here in a summer afternoon. Very delicious beef ribs, friendly staff and comfortable environment. Not much outdoor seating, but still highly recommended when you visit Adelaide City 😋👍.

Had a few drinks in the Beer Garden and it was a great atmosphere and came back a few hours after to have dinner and my family members ordered pizzas and they were amazing but I ordered a $60 Eye Fillet and it tasted very watery like it had been frozen. No problem there, a little off putting but tried to keep eating. My boyfriend went to speak to one of the chefs as he is a chef himself and just wanted to give a little feedback with nothing in return but as he was speaking to the chef, the chef asked all kinds of accusing questions like if he’s a steak connoisseur etc which was not needed as we just wanted to provide feedback but as my partner walked away, he heard the chef mumble that he was a d**khead under his breath which was not called for but my partner wanted to just mind his business as he understands the frustration but it was an inappropriate response. Spoke to the FOH manager on shift and they were very apologetic, mentioned he had not had to deal with this type of response before which was fine because we understand and was given a full refund (the sauce actually cost extra which we weren’t aware about) but appreciate the apology. Manager mentioned he would speak to the chef which we won’t know if he did but we at least approached the effort. Hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else ordering a $60 steak. Good vibe overall but if chefs can’t receive any type of feedback, then they should rethink what it means to be a chef in the industry…

My first time going here, but was told the steaks were good. Ordered the Eye Fillet, Medium. Was probably the best steak I have had in YEARS. Cooked to my liking, PERFECTLY (which let's be honest is hard to achieve on such a thick cut without the skill set to do so)... very nice char that accentuated the flavour of the steak. I am also a non-drinker, so was very happy to hear that soft drinks were at 1980s prices (I exagerate of course, but they were so cheap it almost encourages people to be the designated driver... keep that up, and MARKET it). Only missing that last star on atmosphere because the place isn't perfect, it's on Hindley street so as the night got later the patrons got less 'classy' for lack of better term and the HUGE screen is way too bright. I'm nit picking at this point though. Try the steak!!!!!

An underrated venue. It is better known as a nightclub but serves as a functional and well-serviced pub by day, with full bistro menu available inside. Stables Beergarden has become the premier place for Port Adelaide fans to meet before games, and is highly popular for its delicious pizzas and fun staff.

Bar staff were absolutely lovely. Nice and comfortable, good music had a very relaxed time, from a horrible start to my holiday so far, not a good first impression, but these guys were wonderful.

Checked website and website says serving dinner til 9pm, dont tell me the kitchen is closed when i come in at 8.35pm. I was told it was quiet..more reason to take my order. Especially when im a regular customer....took my money elsewhere. Poor service.

Right in the heart of Adelaide, very close to mall. There for lunch on a quiet day & lots of tables available. Staff were good with quick service. Food was pub grub - tasty but nothing special.
