Great food at great prices

Wanted to shoutout one of the staff members named Poppy. She was such a lovely girl with great customer service. She had great knowledge on the menu and suggested the best spot to sit. Well done poppy, will be back!

We came to escape the heat after a weekday lunch at a cafe across the road. The place was pleasant, but the music was too loud. I prefer to be able to hear my friends, rather than talk over the top of music. I thought the price of a schooner of beer was exorbitant. The girl serving at the bar was friendly

The tuna tacos are very possibly the worst thing I have ever tasted, completely inedible. The tacos themselves had the strangest smell and the tuna definitely wasn’t fresh and had a slimy texture 🤮 My daughter also ordered the fish tacos and they had the same vile smell. I spoke to the staff about it but they were completely disinterested. Will never return and it’s a shame as the food used to be pretty nice there. Definitely the worst food experience we’ve ever had.

We are going to Ivanhoe regularly since long years… since a couple of years, it has unfortunately changed a lot, not in a good way (since COVID). Our last visit in Jan 25 has been a disaster. It looks like the management has changed again, the menu has changed. No pizza anymore, which would be fine if there were many other options,… which is not the case. The food we received varied from average to really bad. Especially given that the price is roughly stable. The burgers were not good at all, very small portion of chips but the worst… the chips were drowned into chicken salt. That was terrible…. Very disappointing experience for such an iconic place in Manly.

My family and I have eaten here for years and enjoyed it, unfortunately it seems they've got a new head chef in recently that's changed the menu up and removed the best meals. Not much on there now that looks appealing unfortunately. Ordered the fish and chips and the fish was terrible, dry and a tiny portion. It's a shame because it's a nice space, bring the old menu back please! Won't be visiting again unless the food improves.

DO NOT COME TO THIS RACIST ESTABLISHMENT. My friend got racially profiled for simply being a coloured person. He has brown skin and only wanted to get water as a lot of places were closed, but the security immediately told him to walk off and said he is wasted and has had too much to drink as he approached the entrance. My friend was completely sober! And he doesn't even drink! This racial profiling is unacceptable and gross and I am gonna let everyone i know to not come here!

August 2023 I'm a semi regular - come down and visit Mum on weekends. Service is not exceptional - especially for the prices charged. $$9.30 for local beer (VB, New, etc.) Cold glasses sometimes need to be asked for. Was much friendlier when Damo was on the floor. He knew the regulars, and was very personable. A King. Always remembered people and their 'things'. It seems to be, if there is any excuse/reason to increase prices, they will. E.g.- over Easter, they put the surcharge on all days, not just Good Friday & Easter Monday. Money making machine. Go elsewhere (not the Steyne - same company, I've heard). Food: standard, a bit better than normal pub fare - no complaints there. Food is delivered quicksmart with good grace. Have you ever heard the term 'the fish stinks from the head down'? Management (everywhere!) stuff things up. You don't see them on the floor - for love or money - I'm not talking about bar managers, they do the day-to-day stuff. How would they know what is going on? The good staff are applauded by patrons. The bad comments to staff are not reported (by staff who have screwed up). If anyone has seen Myles Barlow 'Review' - I give the Ivanhoe 2 stars. ------------ ADDITIONAL... Australia Day 2025 The security fellow manning the door of the sports bar bailed me up a couple times and made me go through the main entrance (once). I was on the Corso having a smoke each time. Fair enough, but it seemed he was doing it only to me. Others could walk in to the sports bar door he was guarding without question, barring age checks, which he was right onto. Good stuff there. I was not intoxicated any more than others (and there were a few way worse!). I certainly was not wobbly. He let me in the last time. I was reticent to go back outside to smoke, so I thought about going to your pokie area. I didn't. I don't want to be forced to do that. Perhaps he doesn't like people going out for a smoke. Maybe a local got in his ear. Perhaps a family member died from smoke induced cancer. I don't know. Anyway, I felt victimised. I felt like he singled me out for no good reason. That's the big thing. Usually, it's a good experience at your venue. I am in Manly every 3 weeks or so visit my aged mother, and patronise your hotel when I am in the area - I spend a fair bit when in your establishment (bar and pokies). A lot of your (excellent) bar staff know what my poison is, so sometimes I attend the bar and get my regular without needing to ask. As they say, 'a nod's as a wink...'. I don't like the atitude I got from this guy. He seems like some 'blow in' bouncer. I can't recall seeing him before. Perhaps he's one of your regulars. Maybe I've been lucky to dodge him. All your other security people are great and personably. My experience tonight was pretty good overall except for this fellow. I'd suggest monitoring his customer service. Obviously he's on camera as I am. Does he normally work the doors at street level or just do night club? But saying this, he will probably now target me once (if) he is made aware of this post. Which I don't want. Please handle it in-house. He may be a fair man, overall, and doing his assigned job, but I believe I did not get a fair deal from him. I do not want an apology from him, nor to meet him. Just for him to be fair with all of YOUR customers. It has taken me well over two hours to write this. That's how much I feel about tonight. Obviously, I would not take the time, or put pen to paper like this, if I didn't feel passion and want a fair deal for all. All the best.

“House made beer battered flathead” was the worst piece of fish I’ve had in my life. Tough, dry and tasteless. Could not finish it. Lucky I only paid $29 :(

The takeaway menu comes out of a kitchen next to the hotel. Bad hygiene practices were obvious with greasy vents dripping mysterious liquid down, open container of yellow chicken salt (apparently vegan) for anyone to help themselves i.e. hundreds of fingers have been in contact. Bad ventilation filling the store with smoke so we asked to sit next door, which is how we discovered it being the same establishment. Fish was terrible, when asked what fish it is, the rude and clueless staff replied “white meat fish” which does not fill me with confidence. Asked for their drinks selection, the clueless staff pointed at a fridge with a single can of lemonade and some water i.e. water or lemonade to choose from. Asked if they had more lemonade and he pulled out two cans of different brand lemonade from under the counter. Asked if they’re chilled and he just shook his head. Asked for single can of chilled lemonade and he fumbled it out with his oily glove on one hand, handed me a filthy can of lemonade with black residue on. Just hope no one get a bad stomach from this - from the takeaway shop or hotel, since they come from the same filthy, unhygienic kitchen.

We waited over an hour for our orders. Unforgivable! The squid portion as well was very small. Very disappointed.

Very enjoyable fish and chips

Steak not cooked well. But eatable. The problem is staff who don’t care or know their products. I asked the barman what beer he would recommend that is similar to Heineken and his response was “don’t know”. When I called to ask about if something was left behind, the response was I’ll tell the manager and he hung up. I called back and said I had just left but was on a ferry, and could someone look because they weren’t busy. He said he would tell the manager and he gave me what I found out later was a fake name. I get better customer service at my local waste and recycling landfill.

Great location food and presentations probably the worst in Manly.

The staff tried their best - no criticism of them. But the food took 40 minutes to arrive, didn’t all come together do some had finished eating by the time others got their meal, orders were incomplete, and when we got to eat it, it was very disappointing. Every plate (there were 6 of us) was poor or barely edible. On the upside the (first floor) room was almost empty so it wasn’t too noisy.

The staff weren't very helpful and quite short, the air con wasn’f turned on and was very unpleasant and uncomfortable. I won’t be returning there are better establishments in the precinct that can provide a better atmosphere and service.

Good place for a beer

Been sitting here for one hour waiting for our lunch hasn’t arrived still very disappointed have asked the staff so many times where is the food? One minute one minute

I was so disappointed when I dined in with my husband on Monday early evening. We normally have a steak and is always quite nice. Unfortunately this particular evening I felt like vegetables so I ordered Chicken Schnitzel with Potato Mash and vegetables. To my disappointment the chicken was horrible there was no potato mash and the chicken was dry a few leaves placed on the plate and that was it . I complained and plate was bought back with a slither of potato mash and a little broccolini with the green leaves still on the plate. I can understand if we went at a later time. Though this was at 6.00pm. Not to mention I also had to wait whilst they could find a glass of Pinot Grigio by the time it had arrived my husband had already finished his beer?

Where do I start… this evening was just so disappointing! The only positive note was being with friends and the pleasant balcony setting. First of all we ordered beers , wine and 1 margarita. We had time for 2 rounds and wait for about 30 minutes before the margarita arrived, not even chilled! The meals…a calamari salad that was ok and a fish and chips (cold) arrived. We requested warm chips but the New ones were not warm either. We had to wait another 20 minutes for the other two meals to arrive : 1 seafood basket with 1 prawn and 1 calamari to go with a very heavily battered fish. The $34 small barramundi fillet was badly cooked, the mash potato had lumps in it and was cold. It looked like hospital food. The waitress tried to justify it by saying people like their mash in different ways, really? She also said she was sorry but « they were really busy »! 3 tables in total with the people who arrived after us getting their meal way before us. They need to get their act together and bring back what used to be a great place for a pub meal. It looked like the waiters were on their first everything shift.

Very disappointing experience. Very quiet night but took 20 minutes for 1 cocktail to arrive - after asking after it twice - and then it was average and warm.. food was slow and of 4 orders 2 arrived in 15 minutes the other 2 taking 25+ minutes, despite being on the same docket.. 2 meals had to be sent back. One due to cold soggy fish and chips the other due to cold lumpy mashed potato and cold grey salmon. The mash came back still Cold.. Calamari dish was undercooked and still white and obviously from frozen bag. Staff were trying to be helpful but obviously highly inexperienced with poor supervision and ordering system in place. Asked for and got refunds on 2 of the meals as they were so poor… manager tried to explain away cold lumpy mash by saying - some people like it that way… really..? Used to love this place and the location is great - but would never go back unless I heard the food and service had improved markedly.

I came in earlier with my children for some fish and chips and unfortunately experienced and witnessed very poor service in the takeaway section. All of the staff are busy cooking and actively appear to ignore you which was not pleasant. Eventually someone from the main bar came around and served us but they definitely need to look at how the team communicate. Whilst we were sat there waiting for our food a man waiting to be served was not as patient as us and he and the chef ended up having a full on shouting match as no one was there to take orders…it was a very unpleasant experience for me and my children to witness and I would not return.

Great seafood basket and fresh salad. However, parking is tough to find, and service is slow. Worth visiting if you don’t mind waiting and parking hassles! Wirth it

Poor service, disorganised, below average food

Lovely staff, great service and fantastic food. Had the fish and chips, chicken Parma, chicken burger and prawn pasta. Big meals, crunchy batter, teenager approved. Would recommend

We had the $22 rump steak special with 2 beers each on a tuesday. Pleasantly surprised with a nicely cooked steak with plenty of chips and salad. Excellent sevice in a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for a very good meal.

Terrace has one of the best views of a busy Manly Food, simple but good service excellent and friendly

I visited this restaurant hoping for a nice experience, but unfortunately, it was far from pleasant. I ordered a classic pepperoni pizza, but they brought me a seafood pasta instead—something I would never order because I’m allergic to seafood. When I tried to address the issue, the staff refused to change the dish, insisting that I had ordered the seafood pasta. I know I didn’t because of my allergy. Very disappointing service! And as I read here - that kind of situations are quite often here. Deal with your staff!!!

It’s hard to mess up fish and chips, but this place did. The fish was overcooked and bland, and the chips were far too oily, leaving a greasy taste. The burger wasn’t much better—dry patty and a stale bun. Overall, a really disappointing meal.

Had the seafood basket. Serving enough for two people. Everything on the plate was exceptional,right down to the salad dressing. These guys know how to treat seafood with respect. Plenty of other places obviously being Manly,to choose from. This is the place. Layer back,nice atmosphere.

Attended a function for a friend’s birthday last night 21st Sept. I wouldn’t recommend hiring this place as a venue. My friend spent several thousand dollars behind the bar (so we heard), but the bar staff refused to make cocktails, repeatedly claiming they didn’t have sugar syrup – even though the cocktails we wanted didn’t require it. One staff member, in particular (without naming names), a younger gentleman with a darker complexion (not the inndian guys), displayed absolutely no customer service etiquette. He obviously hasn’t grasp the basic principle that if a customer is waiting over other people, you serve them first. His attitude and arrogance was laughable. If you can’t take on feedback dont work in hospitality. I understand the venue might be short-staffed, but when you have 3-4 private parties going on, it’s essential to hire more staff for the night. You can’t charge people thousands of dollars and then prevent them from racking up a drink bill. Such poor form. As a loyal local who has visited this place twice a week for 11 years, I’m incredibly disappointed to have to leave this review. The young bar staff on the middle level definitely needs a lesson in hospitality. His attitude was terrible, and all night he had a face like a wet weekend. Cheer up! Imagine being told you need to drop 5- 6k to hire a venue, and then be served by him! God knows if our friend got his moneys worth. Dont hire this place. Felt sorry for our friends, nobody wants to be stressed out on a night wondering if the bar tab will be used up.

Bedienung freundlich. Man muss selbst an der Theke bestellen, bekommt eine Nummer für den Tisch. Im Salat war etwas viel Essig enthalten. Die frische Avocado war gut. Die Pizza war lecker aber etwas zuviel Tomatensauce. Der Rand sehr dick aber lecker. Das garlic bread war mit eine Art Parmesan noch bestreut, was nicht ganz so gut passt. Der Mozzarella dafür war super.

Do better. Order was Rump steak chips & salad (see pic). Was blamed on they got hacked the night before? Couple, Table across from me recieved wrong food to their table. I have no more words.

Great place and I love the set up and decorating. Just a shame about the staff. Twice served by a grumpy guy swearing. Second time i went to bar spent whole time teaching a staff member about split bills. No acknowledgement of me and that I had been waiting. Just swearing. Such a shame.

We were ten people and ordered food individually - but the person at the till messed up four of the six orders. The management were not even apologetic about the fiasco - which included mixed charges and incorrect food orders. One person did not even get her lunch after a 90+ minutes wait….. the pin has lost more than just 10 customers!

Ruined our afternoon. Never go back. Empty restaurant which took 1.15 hrs to deliver the order. Then missed my wife’s meal and still insisted that someone else had eaten it ! Took me three explanations to get a 20$ refund. And then huge issue with billing system which apparently got hit with some virus. Litany of service fiascos. Badly run with no training and non existent supervision. A travesty for an establishment with such heritage. Stay away .

As a local I get to experience all that the Northern Beaches offers. The Ivanhoe is well located, and occasionally serves good meals. It’s not overly crowded, but then again it is focused on Poker machines. The Ivanhoe is inconsistent on a range of meal specials, often changing deals and dates with no notice. I have written to the Ivanhoe twice over this, over a number of months.The Ivanhoe has chosen never to respond, more interested in poker machine revenue I suppose. If your visiting Manly, and looking for a local experience, I would look elsewhere. There are plenty of options for a much better experience.

Calamari salad was horrible

Ordered Salt and Pepper Calamari. Very dry and crunchy and not at all what Salt and Pepper Calamari should be. It was more like a scratchie dish like whitebait. The Aoile dip was the only think that made it somewhat edible. Very disappointing meal. On a positive note my wife said the beef burger was OK.

Fantastic atmosphere, food and great staff. The weekday meal deal specials are something from the 90s in terms of price- best value for money. Special shout out to Lauren and Steve who made our recent visit comfortable and relaxing. They provided great service and handled a concern of mine with courtesy and respect which overall gave us a great night out. Thank you for excellent customer service.

The food was nice. I couldn’t pay with cash though so I was forced to use a card which I then had to pay a fee to use it as well as a Sunday surcharge (which I understand ) so an extra $4.50 on top of my meal. Please allow your customers to pay cash, it is legal tender.

Guy at bar was good. What brings it down are the dirty tables. The young girls seem to have issue cleaning them. Even when they bring you a meal and the plates from the last people are still there. They just ignore the mess

Great place to have a nice pub meal and good beer on tap. The premises are clean and comfortable, and less noisy than the other 2 pubs along the Corso ( that's not to say that the other 2 pubs are also of a very high standard).

Good food, good price. Live music was awesome.

Chips are always good from here, but I paid 48$ for two fish and chips in their restaurant and it was just batter with a tiny bit of fish In there. The batter was soggy and wet, I complained to a member of staff, and the manager but did not get offered a new piece of fish or any money back. I like the pub, and the thick chips are nice but this was very disappointing as a regular customer
