Salad tasted as if it were 3 days old n re tossed with dressing no thanks
The pub seems fine but the accommodation is disgusting. Still stinks of ancient nicotine, mould in the showers, filthy sinks that don’t drain (see photo) missing light fittings, power boards that don’t work, poorly insulated, dusty, noisy. Just down right depressing. Who ever is in charge obviously doesn’t care. Bed linen was clean, but that’s about it.
Exceptional service. Extremely friendly bar staff . Good value yummy meals too.
Good old school pub. Rooms clean. Excellent bed linen and towels. Great location. Very good value. Food well priced and delicious. Staff extra friendly and helpful. Will be ba k
Central. Cheap. Simple rooms above pub. More than adequate for a couple of nights. Quiet, even on a Friday night. Good schnitzel in pub! I'll stay here again.
Popped into this pub twice during my time in Launceston and Aiden who served me was amazing. As someone who works in the Sydney hospitality industry I can say from experience he's an amazing asset to this venue. What a lovely guy
There was no one to contact and we couldn't check in and we couldn't get a refund. We looked for another hotel that day. Please do not book this hotel.
Very close to Launceston CBD and Cataract Gorge, however that is where the positives end. The main light does not work, and by the time we realised, the pub was already closed, and nobody answered the phone number provided. The night we stayed, there was a power outage, and there was no communication from the hotel whether the outage was only in the hotel or the whole area. We contacted Agoda and even they couldn't get in contact with the property. This should not happen. Guests should never be left with no support. The room that was provided is not the same as the picture on the internet. Only some rooms have been renovated and most of the rooms are still unrenovated. When the pub is closed, the only entrance is from the front, meaning when you park your car, you have to walk around the block to get to the accommodation.
Bar pub bar pub
Surprisingly better than expected.
Cheap and basic. Everything worked but door lock was very sticky, and didnt feel very secure when I locked it. No tea or coffee making facilities or bar fridge in room, no aircon but there was a pedestal fan which worked well. Could make a cuppa in communal guest lounge but there was no sink or tap to fill it up.. Good points - easy access to Cataract Gorge (5m away) and I had a bird's eye view of the New Year fireworks at Royal Park directly opposite from the hotel balcony.
You get what you pay for. 70s, 80s style house. Room is maintained well, noise can be an issue with poor sound insulation, lucky no psychos the night we stayed. Everything is super simple. Bring your own hair dryer.
Generous meals, I couldn't eat it all.
Read the reviews of competitors and booked TRC as it just had the edge. Not sure what benchmarks other reviewers had but was astounded a) by the food! Schnitty bloody fantastic and 10 x better than the NSW clubs schnitty of the year award! Staff exceptional ( team of 4 )all very welcoming, as was my early arrival reception, happy, friendly genuinely helpful offered suggestions to help me bumble my way through. Really good community vibe in the bar I’m not a footy fan but everyone seemed to be having a good time and ( a rarity) I didn’t feel like a “ stranger in our midst”. Top marks for food in a pub in Australia ( been here since 1993- travelled around Oz twice and visited a lot of pubs! ) Accommodation a little dated but very neat and clean. Yes it is cold it’s very near the bloody sea and it is Tasmania for gods sake’! Value for money, get over it, wear socks and a hat like they used to in the good old days! Highly recommend and hope to come again.
the rooms in this hotel had extremely thin walls, and as a result we got no sleep because we could hear EVERYTHING. The carpets were stained and the doonas on the bed had no covers on them. While the price and location was good, I would not stay here again. If you can afford to pay a bit more, I would recommend going elsewhere.
Good pub and nice staff
Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Parmas were nice and reasonably priced, but I think the Salt & Pepper Squid was overpriced for what was served. Jugs of soft drink had more ice than drink. We had one meal at this venue & we did not stay here, so I can not comment on the accommodation.
The food was terrible. Sounded good on the menu, but highly disappointed. As I was only in launceston for 2 nights, I really wished I'd tried somewhere better. 1 good thing is I didn't get food poisoning.
Dined here for lunch. Meals were delicious. Staff were excellent offering wonderful customer service.
Customer service was great . Ryan the manager was soo helpful and make sure everything is ok. The place Was clean and tidy . And it's a very nice place.
Value for money though walls are not very sound-proof and a bit warm in the room as there is no A/C. Communal area has mini bar though no sink to wash or leave used dishes. The worst part is that no one would reply your messages or queries online and they have limited staffed hours.
Lovely but 2 minutes too late to get a meal
Save and secured
Sandwiches were pretty dry and cheese
Good food friendly staff
Always a good place to visit .
Great to be back
On hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise I didn't have time to look at reviews here before I made a last minute booking after some changes to my travel plans. I had never stayed in a budget pub hotel so I was initially a tad taken aback. The taxi dropped me off the street where the pub side of the hotel was located. I dragged my suitcase up and down the street trying to find the front of house/reception but couldn't. Eventually a kind diner saw me looking lost and weary and opened the door for me. Turns out the reception is in fact the order counter at the pub! ||||I was then promptly though rather unceremoniously (didn't feel very welcomed) checked in, i.e. note old-fashion pen and paper form fill in and I think they need better check-in SOP as I wasn't informed of the password for the complimentary wi-fi and had to march back down later to ask for it. Would have had to drag my 20kg suitcase up two flights of stairs on my own had another staff, a kind gentleman Stewart not intervened and offered to take me up to my room - special thanks Stewart, you have no idea how much your act of chivalry and kindness meant and I can only hope kindness begets kindness! ||||Up in my room (managed to book the Double Room with Private Bathroom), I was initially overwhelmed by the mis-matched furniture and no-frillsness but once I got past that, everything actually works and I had one of the comfiest showers during the trip, beating pricier hotels. Housekeeping could be more thorough as while the room was clean, some items were not plugged in, e.g. bedside lamp and humidifier. ||||I think the TRC's best attribute is its proximity to the Cataract Gorge for which entrance is a mere 5mins' walk away! Also, the convenience of the pub which opens from 12pm onwards, the pub grub was ok and relatively cheaper compared to nearby restaurants. If you are a local traveller and self-driving, for sure the TRC could be a budget option for a basic night or two's stay. However, if you would require more hospitality services and support, with no proper reception and concierge at the TRC, you may be better at more full-fledged hotels.
This place is cheap for a reason the rooms are terrible very uncomfortable, cold and bed is hard and springy, very echo, terrible place don’t recommend staying
Waited for 15 mins to order food ...terrible service..well no service really...would recommend you go anywhere else but here
excellent pub
Service good. Staff excellent. Place needs some TLC paint n fans in toilets...
If you can afford to stay somewhere else, please do. The accommodation is cheap for a reason. It is totally gross. The bedding is stained and doona insert didn't have a cover. Walls are paper thin and it's very noisy, doors constantly banging. They seem to group guest rooms together which doesn't help with the noise. And the cleaning staff in the morning were loud too. The shared female bathroom has 1 shower with the shower down low in the wall. Made things a bit uncomfortable. Almost had to do the limbo to have a shower. There are also no staff to answer phones before 12pm, so be aware. Hot water system was amazing!
Great meals, really friendly staff and cosy, what more do you need. Prices can seem a little high on some items but it's worth it, and I don't say that often.
Older style accommodation. We arrived late as the Spirit of Tasmania was delayed by an hour. Staff were very helpful. Comfortable room.
Super friendly staff with old fashioned service. Old fashioned pub rooms, some with shared bathroom so don't expect the Ritz. Rooms were clean and had everything I needed. And there's a pub downstairs with decent food. Pub shuts quite early so no noise. 3 thumbs up.
Nice place to go for a drink and meet friends
When we went into our cabin/room and the bathroom light wasn't even working. Ugh! The bar down was pretty good but besides that everything was terrible. the service didnt even take out bags/suitcases upstairs and then i fell down on the stairs and no-one came to help
Great spot top staff
Professional staff.
Great local pub
Good bar service, great atmosphere.
I desperately required a liquid refresh as well as charge my phone after getting lost on foot at night time. The operators welcomed my patronage with such pleasantries that I shall return. Thank you.
Meal was disappointing.
Lovely staff, nice atmosphere, delicious lunch menu, reasonably priced.
We booked for the Easter weekend and it's nearby the wedding venue and reception we were attending. We received a call a few days later, was told there will be no Reception nor staff working on Good Friday when we need to check in. Fortunately hubby flew in a day early to catch up with a mate so he got the keys on Thursday arvo. The room is smaller then expected and the doona is just sandwiched between two flat sheets, no doona cover. The toilet paper was as thin as a feather so you need to use 2/3 of a roll in a day per person. The side tables looked older than 2 decades (peeling and unstable) and one of the bedside lamps did not work. It was nice to have more than enough toiletries for our 3 night stay and clothes hangers in the old wardrobe to hang our formal wear. When we checked out on Easter Monday, there was no staff/no reception as well, so we just left the keys in the door lock. With CoVid lockdowns still occuring, other hotels did not give customers' money back if they weren't able to get into Tasmania. With the inexpensive rate at the TRC, it suited our purposes at the time - a place to sleep, shower and secure our belongings - and if we weren't able to fly to Tassie, it wouldn't have been a huge financial loss if we couldn't get our money back from the hotel. But this wouldn't normally be in our top 10 options of accommodation to book.
Service is quick and friendly & beer is cold and fresh. Need to come back to try the food, could be 5 stars.
Fabulous pub..brilliant staff except for one barman..rude and aggressive..uncalled for hostility..identified by black tattooed Circle behind right ear. What a shame.
Lamb shanks very nice parking Outback pubs in a good spot walk to everything rooms are nice and clean good price
We had the best pub meal here (steak sandwich with the works) that we have had on our 10 day travel around Tassie. Well priced and delicious. Staff were friendly. Recommend.
Ordered the beef Parma and it was like an old boot gravy was as runny as water and as for sweets the sticky date was cold
Accommodation is very reasonably priced, a good pub to have a refreshing beverage and a bar meal, great staff, not far from Cataract Gorge and its great walking tracks and chairlift.
Good location.
Good location and not bad for what you pay. The room was a good size, only a shower curtain on the shower. WC had a door. There is a comon room to make tea and coffee. It was very quiet, no noise from the pup below. Good location.|
DO NOT RECOMMEND!||so disappointed. stay in launceston one night to visit a friend. I booked this place as she booked already. ||after checking in, the key didn't work well for the security door, the door to the room was faulty as well, barely worked. ||As I wasn't handed any information upon checking in, I was trying.to find wifi password then I found rubbish from previous guests in the drawer. Went down to reception talked to the staff, he said just throw it away. ||there was no light in the bathroom !!!!! having shower in the dark and then the taps was so difficult to turn off. ||old dated room and facilities, dusty and dirty in the room, noise from outside during the night made it hard to sleep. ||I know with $70ish a night, we can't expect much, but this place is so not worthy staying. worst place ever. ||DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Stayed at hotel solo and pregnant. Tried to return to room after hours. Keys didn’t work to outside security door to get into the hotel, as lock and keys were broken. ||||Was stranded out the front with drunk men and felt desperate and scared. After hours contact was disconnected. ||||Family tried to contact manager via Facebook as no alternative to contact was available. Manager saw message didn’t reply, assist or apologise. Locked outside for hours in unsafe environment. ||||After hours of trying the key broke but I was able to get in security area with nearly pushing door down. Lock to bedroom door was also faulty. Struggled to get in room.||||Staff were rude and incompetent. Room old dated and dirty. Air con didn’t work and room was very hot. Room didn’t look like the pictures.||||I don’t recommend staying here. Noisy pub can hear conversations from room. Unsafe for females travelling alone. Worst experience.
