About Us
One visit is all it takes. One visit to understand why so many have fallen in love with our breathtaking waterfront location, which has been entertaining rowers and diners for more than 150 years.
Our History
The Sydney Rowing Club was established in 1870 and was first located on the site of the famous Sydney icon, The Opera House. In 1873, the Club purchased an additional property at Abbotsford, known then as “The Red Cow Inn”. In 1888, the Club relocated from its original site to the western side of Woolloomooloo Bay, between Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and the Domain Baths. It continued to run activities from the two sites at Woolloomooloo and Abbotsford until 1947, when all activities moved to Abbotsford.
Prestigious Members
Over the years, SRC has attracted prestigious members, including A.B. “Banjo” Paterson, the first Prime Minister of Australia, Sir Edmund Barton, and many others. Constant renovations have created first-class hospitality facilities for its members and guests that fully embrace our magnificent waterfront location.
Our Mission
Rowing is and always will be our reason for being. Sydney Rowing Club’s goal is to be Australia’s best rowing club, achieved through the pursuit of excellence, performance at the highest standards, and the development of strength and quality of character within our members. We wish to build and support high-quality programs and facilities that promote access to rowing, excellence in rowing, and use rowing as a means to foster physical activity, health, leadership, and community engagement.

What a venue to host an event. Highly recommend
Lovely atmosphere, peaceful waterfront location
Place is nice, view is great but maybe a bit of info to get ppl started like where to order, where's the bar, you know just the little things. We sat there not knowing what was what. Once sorted though the food came out and it was good, can't complain. Will probably be back.
Beautiful atmosphere very friendly Acct Manager Lady Brook staff always with smile great service from Watergrill Restaurant lady behind the Cafe she makes great coffee ☕️ very efficient food presentation is excellent And fast service next Saturday going again for lunch with my family Regards Godfrey
Beautiful spot if you can get there early Food was beautiful.
Amazing view and great food
Perfect View of the Parramatta River. Awesome food ans service👍
Great food, friendly staff & beautiful view..
Food and service is really good
Excellent views, service and quality. Staff there are really attentive. Location is brilliant.
Amazing place for friends and family gatherings
We had an enjoyable lunch at the Rowing Club on Sunday. The food was tasty, fresh, ample in size. Though the wine was very expensive for what it normally retails. So its easy to spend $50 on a basic bottle of wine. We loved the view, it was relaxing.
Lovely view, good food & service. Easy access from ferry wharf
My regular when I'm in Sydney. Great restaurant, great food at reasonable prices. A must to visit
Wonderful wonderful place we come here all the time and just adore this place sooooo much. The food the lovely staff and fantastic views. It's a heavenly place xxxx
My first time at Sydney Rowing Club.. we had great water views. Watergrill Kitchen food was very nice! Staff were amazing!
Other than views and location, it is not good. Even members don't get discounts on food on weekends. Food is very very expensive and serving size is small. Only big thing is price. The drinks become extra expensive on Friday Saturday and Sunday and on top of prices there is surcharge.
The view is spectacular. The staff are lovely and efficient. And the food is delicious, healthy and good value, especially the cakes.
Excellent service and beautiful setting overlooking the water.
Located at 613 Great N Road, Abbotsford, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺. The Sydney Rowers Club was established in 1870 and was first located on the site of the famous Sydney Opera House. To get there by ferry you leave from Circular Quay and travel up the Parramatta River going under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and past Darling Harbour and Barangaroo, once you arrive at Abbotsford Ferry Wharf , it’s a short 50m walk up the hill to the club. Or, you can drive there and there’s very good parking facilities. The views of the water are stunning and there’s great seating as well as a verandah to take advantage of these views. The bar offers champagne, cocktails, wines and craft beer. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to us. We are a social group including people with disabilities including people in wheelchairs and the staff were fantastic. The food at the Watergrill, the club’s restaurant was very good but a little pricey, but that’s to be expected in this area. There’s live acoustic music 🎶 every Sunday on the Deck from 3.00pm till 6.00pm and every Thursday night from 7.00pm till 9.00pm it’s Trivia Night with Free 🆓 entry and good prizes. Overall, our experience here was very pleasant and I would hesitate to recommend this little gem. Thumbs up!! 👍👍👍
limited menu wonderfull views though
Great day celebrating my birthday at the Sydney Rowing Club, we booked the Figtree Terrace for our event and couldn’t have been more impressed! The staff were amazing, the food, the drinks, the view! And the in-house pastry chef did an amazing job with our cake! Thanks to Zoe for her professional customer service, Lucinda, and the rest of the staff for an amazing day! Highly recommend!
Easy to get to, just 1 minute from Abbotsford wharf. great food, lovely staff and amazing sunsets.
Great view Very pleasent Parking can be a problem
So many area's to enjoy the beautiful views while sipping on your favourite beverages & munching on their mouth watering dishes.
The food needs improvement. We expected better . The sauce on the Marinara was rich and heavy - too heavy for such a dish. The ousters were fresh and nice. Fish was well cooked.
Fantastic location- views from every table.
Excellent setting and good food options.
We ordered the hot seafood plater and it was very disappointing. We only got 2 prawns one each it was mainly hot chips and squid that you can get at the local fish shop. A RIP OFf. Worst seafood plater ever over priced !!!!
I’m basing my review solely on the pricing, as it is truly outrageous. For example, an almond piccolo costing $6.60 is simply ridiculous. Even in locations where rent and overheads are extremely high, I’ve never seen such inflated pricing for a small coffee. The meals are also questionable in terms of value for money. For what they charge, you’d expect a lot more in terms of quality, but they fall short. The biggest highlight of the rip-off? That $6.60 almond piccolo—it’s honestly hard to justify such pricing anywhere. Overall, not worth the money in my opinion.
If you're looking for a function venue, this place is worth checking. We had an afternoon birthday 1200-1700 on the Figtree Deck and it was perfect. These guys bent over backwards to accommodate us, and nothing was too much trouble. Amazing views, great pre-ordered catering platters from Watergrille, and top staff. Highly recommend.
Where else would you get such superb food with such a good view. We had a delightful Hunter Valley sauvignon blanc to accompany these delights.
Great food and location .
The atmospher, outlook is great accessable by water and road but I find the food overpriced
Plenty of parking Good quality food and friendly service
The Sydney Rowing Club offers a stunning location and a relaxed atmosphere. While the food and drink selection is decent, a few areas could use improvement. The public holiday surcharge of 12.5% felt a bit high, and more effort is needed to maintain cleanliness in shared spaces, particularly the toilets. Service can be inconsistent; we had to clean our own table after requesting assistance. Overall, it was a mixed experience with room for improvement.
Great food and great views
In the beginning, I visited this establishment with my family. The culinary experience was profoundly disappointing. The salt content was entirely absent, resulting in a bland and flavorless meal. I had a pasta dish with prawns, which was particularly egregious due to its lack of salt and taste. Regrettably, I did not capture any photographs of my food, as I had initially intended to refrain from leaving a review. However, the experience was so abysmal that I feel compelled to share my thoughts. The sparkling water, which I had waited 20 minutes for, was also a source of frustration. While I was in line, I observed that the waiters were prioritizing customers they knew over me. This apparent favoritism was evident as they served individuals they were acquainted with before me. In contrast, I was aware of the existence of two lines and that the bartenders were surfing drinks to the people they knew not acknowledging me and as I stood there the bartender female she didn’t even ask if I needed anything. She continued to get glasses before asking me what I would like Furthermore, the pervasive use of mobile phones and texting during our visit detracted from the overall experience. The entire experience was highly unpleasant, and I have no intention of returning to this establishment.
Great place for a social drink or two, the espresso martini is good. Food ordered was well cooked and presented.
Great location, great atmosphere with the outdoor dining areas, food was great. Easy access by ferry
Great place for lunch with gorgeous views of the water
This is a great location, tucked away at the end of a road overlooking the harbour right next to a ferry stop! Always a buzz, good food and well priced drinks.
The view and the company were excellent. Unfortunately the food was very average. The prices did not match the quality of the food served.
Good
Lovely place for our family to get together at. We come here regularly. Food is great, view is beautiful and the staff are lovely.
The presentation of the plate was stunning, but unfortunately, the food itself was bland and tasteless, especially considering the price. I was really disappointed and would not recommend ordering from here unless things improve.
Perfect for drinks on a hot day along the water.
Great food! And the view!! Will definitely come back with visitors. Great place!
We hosted our son's birthday at this venue. Great location with amazing view and some staff members were wonderful and helpful. That said, The balloons on the table were falling apart and needed a piece of sticky tape to hold them together, I reached out to one of the staff behind the counter and asked if I can borrow some sticky tape, I don't believe the lady understood my question so she asked her colleague Lisa if she can help me so I asked again if I can borrow some sticky tape. Her instant response to me was, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SO RUDE, WHY ARE YOU RAISING YOUR VOICE. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted with her response and behaviour. My response was, what's so rude about asking for sticky tape? then I asked to speak with her manager. Lisa, I have 2 suggestions for you, go back to school and learn some social skills on how to speak to clients or find yourself a non client facing job as your service is a disgrace and appalling for the venue you are working for.
Beautiful views, good food and beverage selection.
The busiest place for a good reason. The view and location is amazing and the interior is fresh and beautiful. The service is fast and the food is exceptional for the price for Sydney. Fresh fast and great day out.
Good venue, nice food.
beautiful view,great food and drink.
Good portions, stunning views and courteous staff... Had our work Christmas party here for a group of 20.
Hidden gem of Sydney. Great water views with a cup of coffee. Bring your visiting friends if you want to impress them. It was hard not to feel like the odd on out there, but still a great place to visit.
This place is an absolute hidden gem. Food is fantastic staff are great and the view is spectacular. Would recommend this place for sure
We didn't have a table to sit at comfortably, and one of the managers came along and offered to find a table for us.... We were well looked after.
The most amazing place for sundowners. The place is perfectly situated for the most beautiful sunsets, right on the water. Cocktails and food is great!
Relaxing place, food is always good
Hidden gem of a club on the Parramatta River. Excellent food, great decor and a high up view over the water. Was recommended by a friend and will be going back.
Great service and food
Good food and amazing views, great venue for parties.
What a great place this is. We took the ferry down from the Quay, and back again. What wonderful journey it was. Great atmosphere at the club as well. View was brilliant at the sun set.
Absolutely amazing. A lovely little club.
Fantastic setting, great for sunset aperitivos. Food very average and quite expensive. Won't be eating there again in a hurry.
