The outside dining room is great especially when the band started. Food and service are good. Currently $7 pints for tap beer, but not stouts.

Good food and service, pity a lack of people and loud music made it uncomfortable to talk during our Friday lunchtime visit.

Never again will I go there.. The new bar manager looks like an oily in desperate need of a shower type and needs a few lessons in management and manners.. The new chef wouldn’t even be on par with a new kitchen hand.. Two meals were served 30mins apart and first was cold and the second was inedible. This place has gone down hill extremely fast..

I’ve been going to the Repub for 20 years. I really want to give a better review, but the place seems to have lost its mojo since the previous long-standing owner sold the pub. It feels grimy & sticky, the service is hit and miss, there’s now a big TV in the beer garden and the alternative crowd of yesteryear seems to have disappeared. Please bring back the Republic Bar of old!

Went for tea and a gig last night. Sat down, tables were sticky. Checked another table sticky as well. Ordered from the very minimal offerings menu which was also very sticky.. It turned up 70 minutes later ..cold,for a table of 4 with not many others eating in that room. Went to the toilets before the bands started and no toilet paper in the female toilets. I believe the men's ran out during the night. The females was replaced after asking. Hoping not too many bands go there anytime soon as the venue wasn't enjoyable I have had lots of good times and meals there in tge past.

Intensive pig farms have better ventilation than this place , Arrogant Staff ignore requests to turn AC on

We went for quiz night. Food was good , however I should have gone medium with my scotch fillet and not medium rare. The Jack Daniels sauce was amazing.

$15 1kg of chicken wings (special) were super tasty. Roasted vege salad was delicious, housemade hommus and crispy brussel sprouts (special) were great too.

really upset with our experience at republic bar tonight. we entered the beer garden shortly after buying a drink. my partner had a drink spilled on him and tried to warm up by the COMMUNAL fire heaters, the group of customers near the fire we stood by decided we shouldn’t be standing there. we explained our story after staff were called over after being verbally assaulted by their customers, the young man i spoke to first was very kind and just tried to understand the situation at hand. however shortly after we were met with another staff member and security who allowed the other customers to swear and scream at us as we were being removed. i do not understand how you can allow security guards who do not remove the problem from your venue. i agreed that if anything was said again both groups would be removed from the venue. this did not happen. don’t come here if you don’t want disrespectful customers to be protected.

Xmas party at the Republic. How they managed to get all our food for the whole table at the same time when it was crazy busy is beyond me. And it was good! Only mid strength on tap was great northern which was a bit boring, and they were a bit scared to fill the spirits measure to the top, but great atmosphere, fun band. Good night out.

We had a very small drinks function and felt so welcome. Nothing eas too much trouble. The food and drinks were excellent and the staff warm and professional.

The Republic Bar & Cafe is one of the few places you can head into and something is happening. Monday - Bingo Tuesday - Open Mic night Wednesday - Funky trivia Thursday through to Saturday boasts solo artists and sold out bands and if you like a cheeky Sunday sesh with tunes in the garden, this is the place for you. Service can be somewhat lacking at times depending on the crew working and often the outside area has plates/glasses left for periods of time. It can come across as messy but this might be more of a staffing issue. This is evident when you notice patrons changing the gas bottles in heaters and turning them on. The staff themselves are pleasant and friendly and try help out where possible. The food is good and the range of drinks is alright. The wine menu could do with a serious overhaul. I don't recommend the house wine (white or red) nor do I think the rest warrants the price. Stick with the taps. Completely lacking in customer service, repeatedly ignored at the bar, really unfriendly staff all round. It's a shame cause the location is great. I'm sure with a deep clean, a spruce up and change of staff it could be a great bar.

Each area seems to have it's own little atmosphere. Good choice of food and on-tap beers, as well as a great selection of beers in the fridge. Oh, and the Tassie whiskey!

A great place to hear local musicians Awesome Dave is on guitar tonight and open mic is fun. The dark beer is great and schnitzels if that’s your fav food are enormous and a special price each week thanks everyone!

Ordered 2 Parmis and a schnitzel and waited over an hour and a half with no food coming our way. The group had to leave as we had another place to be and were refused a refund. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE

Incredibly disappointed by the lack of service and overall atmosphere at this pub. The last experience here was dreadful. Food was tasteless, it was under-staffed and the wait times were just not ok. We had booked in advance for a small group for a brunch. It took up until the last 30 minutes for our food to come out, the line for the bar was a minimum 30 minute wait, everything was dirty, alcoholic drinks spilt everywhere, tables were sticky and the place smelt like sewage and not to mention they ran out of essential ingredients for beverages. Really disappointed by this. Have had a great time here in the past, but now it’s just beyond a joke. Republic Bar you really need to step up your game and at least compensate for your customers.

Went to bottomless brunch, spent most of my time lining up to be served drinks, booking made weeks ago for large group, seriously understaffed, felt sorry for wait staff who were completely overwhelmed with the amount of patrons waiting to be served, food was great but really late coming out.

Security with beard was super condescending to me by calling me darling twice and arked up when I called him condescending for calling me darling, had to ask bar staff for my property when exiting instead of the security doing his job and saying he would give it back when I left. Blake was kind and understanding of the situation.

It was a cold wet night and the outside areas were very busy. Inside was even busier. Something good is going on. I had to leave early so I never figured it out

Food has been pretty good each time we have been here. Problem is, if you are trying to eat when there's a band performing or even doing soundcheck, its impossible to hear. It actually hurts to be in that small space with that racket. I'm surprised the bar staff arent all deaf.

Got a disgusting look from the dude at the bar when I saw an old friend, staff were not inviting and I don't particularly like getting scoffed at just because I gave her a handshake and a hug, grow up next time.

Always a good feed and water from the Republic Hotel. Friday afternoon happy hour, 5-7 with $12 cocktails is a good deal.

Smallish corner pub overselling tix to events. Would have enjoyed the band if it wasn't a sardine arrangement; hot and sweaty on a mild evening, everyone breathing eachother's air. Add to that a gig that started 90mins after the advertised time. Otherwise, friendly staff and crowd.

Private function in upstairs area and it was hot, uncomfortably hot in this area. Ladies toilet had a window in it open due to the heat , you could see the people outside in the back area, don't know if they seen me bearing all before I sat down ???

I came here while on a holiday from Brisbane. I went to so many bars while I was here and I went here for a gig that they hosted. The sound and lighting was amazing. The drinks were AMAZING and decently priced, the food was good, the vibe of the entire bar was amazing. And not to mention every single bar staff that served me had the best service I’ve genuinely ever had at any bar before, even here in Brisbane. I’ll definitely be going back next time in Tasmania!

We bought a gluten free burger and the meat tasted pretty burnt and bread was dry, but gluten free bread is usually dry so don't think it was their fault. Fries were nice and crunchy but a bit too much salt. It was quite loud as well.

Well established and well known place to see great music and artistic acts that has kept its chill local vibe. A must.

The perfect local bar, to get a cheap feed (hello wing Wednesdays), play pool or watch a gig. The crowd completely varies, from you to old, they have a packed smoking area which is heated.

Booked a table for Saturday lunch. The table was greasy and sticky. I’ve since looked at other reviews and it’s a similar story. If the tables are filthy god help the kitchen. We waited a long time and couldn’t get served. The line up just for drinks was about 20 people long and didn’t move. We cut our losses and left.
