They don’t play the Premier League anymore!
Rude staff, over priced drinks. Would not come back.
I read some of the reviews about the pub before deciding to book and decided to look into it more closely. What drew me to the venue was the price point of the menu which ranges from 16 for a burger to around the forty dollar mark for a variety of meals. I booked a table for 12 in the upstairs function room. I felt that the reviews about the lack of an authentic British pub decor was accurate as there were no pictures on the walls or anything that referenced Britain....not even a picture of the King. 😂 The function room was noisy with other groups there which also detracted from the atmosphere. Slightly negative things aside, what really stood out and what matters most is the service which I was impressed by. I was always greeted with a smile and sure, you have to order full pints downstairs, but the staff were happy to take the drinks upstairs for us. What I was also impressed with was how quickly meals came out, the quality of the food and the portion sizes which were generous. I had the pork roast for $25. The Yorkshire pudding was amazing. So was the rest of the meal. Overall, I would be happy to go to the pub again. Thank you to the staff at The Elephant.
Excellent place loved the pork pie and branston pickle
Great food and great service, well worth a visit!
The staff looked after us, our messy spillages and our food too. Enjoyed the services, the ambience and the reasonable prices
Not going to be the same without Chris but I am sure that the new staff will be fine.
Excellent lunch spot.
Good pub with grub
We had a late lunch here (3.30pm) on Tuesday. The venue was understandably quiet at this time and so we had immediate service. We took advantage of the $15 schnitzel offer (schnitzel, salad, chips & sauce). Such a generous serving and we were stuffed! The food was fresh, hot and tasty. Kudos to Nicole at the bar who was very friendly.
Great pub that sells guinness. Thurs steak night is outstanding
The food was top notch, as was the service and atmosphere. I love the close proximity to the tram services too. Very convenient and a great time spent at the pub all round. Will come back again.
Employees are fine but the decor is very disappointing when you compare to the before" pictures."
Always an Excellent Hotel
After the renovation it sadly doesn’t look or feel like an old British pub at all anymore on the inside. If you are looking for somewhere that does good traditional mushy peas, the Elephant is not that place. The ‘mushy peas’ were regular peas that had been mashed - rather than mushy peas which are quite different. And they only give a tiny amount. The food was okay otherwise but not memorable.
Absolutely 💯 magnifico fantastico brilliante. Awesome 💯 atmosphere. Great to watch a bit of UFC fights and ice hockey action on the big screen. Great place to visit and enjoy the meals. May also be able to purchase some nice fine cocaine if you be chasing. Just saying.
Looking for a quiet meal this isn't the place.. only bar dining...
Bar tender Rebekah was very rude when serving. She should have some compassion towards non whites as well.Patrick on the other hand was wonderful. Had 3 beers there and one served by Rebekah was awful. She understood a wrong selection to what i pointed to and was furious at me. Will never come back at the pub or recommend.
We visited Adelaide for 5 days and what a lovely surprise it was to find this little treasure. The Elephant is a gorgeous English pub with great service, lovely food and amazing beers. Happy hours will get you really good priced beers and Thursdays you will get an amazingly well made beef steak with salad and chips. Definitively a place to visit again when we comeback to beautiful Adelaide!
The staff were really nice and friendly - especially the bartender Marcus.
Thursday special is steak
This pub was recommended by a wine tour guide. Thank you JR 👍🏻😊 A lovely clean and well presented typical pub, who people love. The beer & wine was awesome, and the menu, well, you will be spoilt for choice, second to none. I struggled to make up my mind, luckily Patrick helped out. The prices were awesome. We thought ok for the price we'll be ok. But !! The quality and price, wow, can't wait to come back. Thank you The Elephant British Pub 👍🏻
Went for the roast pork dinner and was yummy with the mash potatoes. If you’re wanting something that’s not fried up give their roast ago, especially if you have been traveling and want a bit of a home cooked meal.
Very cosy with good pub food. The drink prices were very high I thought.
We celebrated our sons 21st birthday in one of the function rooms. Fantastic venue, food was very tasteful and served hot, care was also given to our dietary requirements and bar service was spot on. Thanks Kritine you are a super star. Would highly recommend this for your next function.🙏👏👏
I previously left a bad review, not sure what I was on. This pub is great. Great atmosphere, serves English drinks and has unique architecture.
Great selection of beers
Great pub! Popped in before seeing a movie with the kids. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We were served quickly, but it got quite busy before we left. Staff excellent, friendly and understanding towards three kids waiting for lunch.
Been a while since I've visited this pub. Loved the menu and British beers!
“English” “sports bar” . Was told by bar staff that the sound for the All Blacks VS England game would be too obnoxious . English….. sports bar ………….
Entering the deafeningly noisy sports bar downstairs (4 x screens and England playing rugby), it was a relief to head upstairs to a quieter dining room (still screens tho). Food excellent and well priced. Roast of the day for sir and Guinness stew with sourdough for her.
amazing food, great service, it's one of those hidden gems Adelaide
Lovely food I had there 7 out of 10
Great place, awesome service!!
Очень вкусно! Отличный, добрый, отзывчивый персонал, шницель размером с тарелку, очень вкусно! За соус отдельное спасибо. Потрясающе!
On a recent trip to SA, discovered this pub and lived it. Great friendly staff and patrons
A great hidden gem in Adelaide! We have dined here multiple times, great value for money and excellent service. I would highly recommend this for a cheeky catch up with friends or a meal with family . Added bonus is Kilkenny on tap!
A charming pub in the East End with UK inspired cuisine. Bar staff were quite friendly and the meal servings were generous and tasty.
The crumbed fish was huge and luckily, I had ordered one piece not two. The other meals people at the table had were the Thai red curry from the specials, the crispy chicken burger and the crumbed prawns. All of the meals were good. There is a wide selection of beers on taps, as there was before the renovation. I’m sure there are plenty of other drinks available too - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. As for the atmosphere, since the renovation, pretty much all surfaces are hard and although it wasn’t that busy, the noise was overwhelming. The music was quite load and patrons were having to shout to be heard. It was the one part of the night which really spoiled the experience.
Hadn't been here for years, so checked it out for watching the Showdown. Was pleasantly surprised by what looked like a brand new fit out. Big screens were firing with sound up for the game. Had a reasonably priced chicken burger which was really good. Chips were average. $12 jugs of pale were a big hit with the lads. Recommend.
Great food and atmosphere but I mainly went for the English beer. Old Speckled Hen was very nice.
My favourite pub in Adelaide. Kristine looked after our group. Put the NRL on the TV in private room upstairs. Great beer selection. Service is great. Staff friendly and helpful. I highly recommend.
The old Elephant had some character but the upgrade is great. After some initial fears about the changes to the decor I would like to say they have improved the pub tremendously. This place had wonderful pork roast and pie dishes when I dropped in recently and the service and atmosphere was amazing. There was a great mix of people and the place was very welcoming.
Was here for a special event. Great atmosphere. Excellent service.
Im not sure what makes this pub British but it maybe the beef roast I had. It reminded me of school dinners from the 90s. I think the chef tried their best with the ingredients they were given because the green beans were nice and crunchy but everything else was woeful. From the pre cooked Yorkshire pudding to the chewy beef and gravy out of a packet. It was only $23 which I suppose is reasonable but I wouldn’t have the balls to ask for more money than that either. Staff were very friendly.
Fun times,freindly staff,cold beers 🍻 😎
Really enjoyed our meals was ac great b place to eat and enjoy a few drinks and music
Visited for the $15 Schnitzel on a Tuesday and left very happy. For $15 you get a really good portion of Schnitzel (Chicken or Beef), chips, salad and choice of gravy. It was great to see that they had Tennent's on tap as well as a decent range of other British beers.
Had a great pint of Old Speckled Hen in here. Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is good. Shame we couldn't stay for more but we had a show to see at the fringe.
I was recently at Rundle Street for the first time in a while, and was very disappointed to see that the Elephant is no longer the welcoming, comfortable, traditional pub I remember with fondness. The new decor is unfriendly and jarring. The music is far too loud. All the charm has been lost. I was, given the change, entirely unsurprised to see the Elephant empty at 10pm on a Friday. What were they thinking?
Pretty bland. Definitely not an English pub.
Great traditional style British pub that serves a great range of beers including some Brit beers like Old Speckled Hen and offers great food at a reasonable cost.
Great location, away from the main street. Lots the offer with Guinness on tap😋
Great place to eat or have a drink. The Elly burger is great and has a great price
Dinner last night at the Elephant was great and good value for money. Service very good despite the venue being very busy with Fringe festival goers.
All good till the music gets turned up so you can't hear yourself think and yell at your partner
Great meal prices big serves
21st Function in the West Upstairs Function Room. Awesome support from Kristine and team, the food was plentiful, service and atmosphere spot on to make my son's 21st celebration one to remember! Thank you to all staff at The Elephant! We'd definitely go back for future functions!
Waited 20 minutes for a bowl of chips, only to be told (after we asked where they were) it will be at least another 25 minute wait..... Now, don't get me wrong, as irritated as I would have been if our order was two full meals, I get that sometimes that happens.... but a bowl of chips!!!!!! ... We eventually just got our money back. That being said, when we got our drinks, the bar staff were great, with personalities to match
Very nice white wine. Like the booths where you get a little more privacy.
This is no longer a british pub. No where near as good as it used to be. No character at all. Had two british beers could not drink either of them. Owner has no clue.
Great place
Edit: During COVID, I had an event that was cancelled due to the lockdown and The Elephant refused to return the $200 deposit. Old review: Best option for students and extremely easy to work with for hosting events (upstairs makes for a perfect venue)! Would highly recommend as both a venue and a pub (I'm yet to try their food menu but it looks great too).
