Great little pub on the corner. Courteous & friendly staff. Pleasant atmosphere & dinning area.

Happy Valentines Day- a ticket for you to make big money. So the Valentines menu $65 for 2 courses and $14 for a dessert. Because the cheese soufflé had blue cheese in it, I asked to see the original menu, and ordered Korean chicken at $13.90 which I noticed was the same price anyway as the soufflé. The waitress said I might have to then switch to normal menu but asked the head waiter if this was ok, who reluctantly said yes (I was watching). This makes our main courses $51.10 - seriously, (why didn’t I switch to normal menu) I wish had taken a photo of the size of our meals. I had Atlantic salmon, it was so small, not even the size of the palm of my hand. Served with diced potato and chopped salad. My partners meal was presented well, however it was 2 mouthfuls of filet beef and a small pie with veg. Seriously not impressed !!! Nice ambiance, good selection of wine & beer on draught. However, v disappointed with the Valentines night menu, $65 for a dinner, insufficient to feed a puppy. Effectively $15 for starter, supposed to be a Soufflé but warm & sloppy. The main course $50, was a tasty & imaginative, beef pie & tiny beef filet, but so small as already mentioned. My partners tiny Atlantic Salmon was also pathetic. No complimentary champagne for Valentines night, or any other recognition save the menu. Disappointing 😞 ...

This is the third time a group of us has been for lunch in the side room. We had good service as this was for a family memorial dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals from steak. Seafood. Snitzel and ribs. Deserts were also excellent. Well done staff. Thoroughly recommend

3 disappointments in a row attending this place. - Schnitzels taste like fish (probably cooked in the same fryer). - Was served a bevy at 3:50 pm then asked to leave at 4 pm (was a Sunday). - Made a booking in a function room and got shifted to the main area. - Attended a private party and money was on the bar: drinks were served from this tab to the public!

Had an amazing Christmas celebration 🤶 🎄. Staff polite, service good, food excellent, wine list outstanding, and they took this great photo with care to get everyone in. Thanks you

Stopped here for a drink with view to having dinner. Pub interior is modern however not a lot else happening unless you're in to gaming. Staff seemed preoccupied preparing for a function. The few tables left inside were reserved. Rear beer garden largely unshaded. When scotch fillet steaks are priced so high you'd be wanting a table to enjoy it. Update: steak prices clearly state $80 with 30% discount if buying a drink on promo menu in our hotel...maybe it's not really a deal after all?! Go to The Wellington Hotel if you want straight up good value.

I attended a work xmas function last saturday evening, which was great, however I was disappointed in the lack of training and or skills of the bar and waiting staff. The staff were scant for a busy weekend night, whether thats a management issue or not was certainly reflected in the waiting times to be served. Given this was a booked event extra staff should have been rostered on. Secondly I noted the staff to very inexperienced and their handling of food and beverages was below standard. A few suggestions.....when serving drinks , particularly the bar person must never grasp the top of the glass and hand it to the customer......hygiene 101, especially after wiping the sweat of their forehead.This I observed on numerous occasions. Despite offering advice on how the glass should be handled, so I switched bars and onto wine by the glass. First world problem solved I thought. I then observed the bar attendant over pour my wine into the glass, then attempt to tip the excess back into the bottle spilling it anyway ...completely unhygienic. My concerns would be , who trained these staff members? Are they in fact qualified to serve food and beverages ? If they are why dont they adhere to the correct standards of service ? Which leads me to ask ..who supervises these workers??? Otherwise, not too bad. Just another point, when serving 'wettish' finger foods, like salt and pepper squid and chinese glazy chicken bits, it would be nice to have tooth picks so that the customer does'nt have to trawl through the platter with their fingers. We all would have spent much more if we could have got served more efficiently at the bar. Smarten up there are much better performing hotels out there guys.

Eaten there 3 times. Food has always been very ordinary. Never heard any of our groups compliment the food. Staff sometimes slow and unenthusiastic.

Excellent table service with good food at a reasonable price. The fact they do 2 sizes (entrees and full) for most dishes is great for those of us that struggle with a full size meal at lunch.

$14 beers. Yikes. Bar staff brought food over and dropped napkin on the floor, then picked and placed it on our table with cutlery. Over priced and trying to be fancy. Maybe need to train basic service to the young staff.

I eat at caledonian hotel every 3 months with my friends for the last 2 years. Today I decided to order chicken snitzel. The young inexperienced waiter told me there was a small snitzel and a large snitzel. Which one I would like. I told her the small snitzel. When I received my plate it was a small plate with literally 5 chips on it and small snitzel. I later found out from another waiter that there was an entrees serve and a main. It would of been nice to have been told this when I ordered. I assumed it was normal size plate but small chicken snitzel on it. I told the waiter wasn't happy with my meal and she just laughed at me. I complained to another waiter and was told there was entree size and main size but he didn't apologise for the mix up. Very upset today. Spent 36 dollars and yet was not happy. Waiters should pay more attention to complaints not just laugh and walk away.

We had a group of 14?so wear offered the Board Room. The method of dealing with individual bills was amazing. Both we and staff benefited from it. Great service.

Every visit brings a delightful surprise with their new menu. The chef's creativity is the reason we keep coming back. From appetizers to desserts, every dish is absolutely delicious. The extensive wine list shows their great taste. Our family's favorite dining spot! Highly recommended. The food was simply 5 star quality and no, I’m not exaggerating. There were interesting (and delicious) food that I’ve never tried before and the desserts just melted in my mouth-Mmm! The service was superb too and overall it was a super restaurant. It was the perfect destination for my tenth birthday and I cannot wait to have more birthday dinners there. Highly recommended. It was my brother’s birthday and we went there for a special dinner and we loved it. I loved the curry- I could eat it ten times and not get bored. Absolutely delicious.

Broad and interesting range of tap beers. Indoor and outdoor dining. I enjoyed my pre-dinner drink outside watching the sun go down. Friendly staff. Predictable pub food, done well looking at my companions' meals, but with a few interesting options. I chose the Asian pork belly, and quite enjoyed it. (That's an entree size; I wasn't particularly hungry.)

Good experience however the service lacked a bit of polish the night we were there.

I was visiting Adelaide for work and needed breakfast catering for a meeting. Ordered Cali Catering online and was really impressed with the food, service (thank you Fiona for the coffee!) and that despite normally opening at 9am, they were happy to arrange a 7.30 pick up for me. So lovely and saved the day for this “out of Towner”! Highly recommend.

Beef Fillet Mushroom Potato Stack simply amazing. Service excellent. Atmosphere fantastic.

Couldn’t get the hand towels out of the dispenser easily as it rips because it is full. Excellent chips, good coleslaw and parmi schnitzel. Boring music and a bit loud. There is no salt and pepper present where we sat. The seafood linguine is good however it could’ve been better by including mussels and a tomato-based pasta sauce also I didn’t mind the condiment being oil-based and sat in the booth area. Alongside with a Lemon Lime Bitters as it was delightful to consume the beverage plus the men’s restroom is small also black-painted windows again no windows. The parking bay is a little narrow and tight however the road surface is uneven and rough to be honest as this establishment is situated on the southwest corner of Barton West Terrace and O’Connell Street. Stayed there for 31 minutes and spent $30.70 including the beverage.

Nice pub, quite overpriced for what it is. Steaks were only ok, not a $50 steak IMHO.

The venue for our most recent Wine Dinner in July this year (2024). The menu truly complimented and enhanced the wines poured, and you are fortunate to have a wine professional like John on board as his delivery of our wines and management of timings was spot on. Highly recommend their wine dinner program.

Found the booths to be quite small and uncomfortable, and felt deserts were very overpriced.enjoyed the table service,very rare for a pub.

Took my parents to Sunday lunch. Friendly helpful service. Meals were delicious - and very high quality, well presented and very tasty. Really appreciated having two meal size (entre/main or small/large) for most of the meal options as my parents can't cope with large pub meals, and I don't need a schnitzel the size of a plate. We all ordered entre size meals and were more than happy with the size. Will go back. Thank you.

Held my daughter’s 18th birthday here in the beer garden! The staff were super helpful, especially the manager on the night (sorry I didn’t catch his name) he was such a big help and made all the food service, bar service and cake service seamless! The space was warm (always a concern in June) and looked stunning glittered with fairy lights. The guests all enjoyed the food! Thank you for helping us create a wonderful night for our daughter 💜

We had a large group but were well looked after. Great menu and no complaints. Reasonable prices too. Would recommend.

Beyond surprised by this place, attended for a work lunch expecting typical “pub” cuisine only to be served high end restaurant quality meals. I felt every element of each dish was put together thoughtfully by the chefs, only to be complimented by the perfect glass of wine, chosen from their extensive wine list. Not only did this exceed my expectations but the knowledge, and efficiency of both the staff and our amazing host Fiona was truly the definition of hospitality. It is few and far between these days, and is very refreshing to know places like this still exist. I look forward to dining here again in the near future. Highly recommend!

Attended a work luncheon at The Caledonian last week and can not recommend highly enough !! The food, service and wine selection was absolutely sensational - one of the most enjoyable hotel dining experiences we have had in a very long time !! Thanks team we will be back very soon.

Went to Chardonnay wine dinner. Excellent wines and very good food.

Had dinner here the other day, was looking forward to the pasta and thought id order the main size at 38 dollars but the size was more of an entree but was confirmed its the main size, the audacity to charge that price in this climate and produced frozen seafood, 100g of instant pasta, 2 leaves of spinach is such dishonest business behaviour, unacceptable.

Tried the scallop dish with noodles. Delicious and great new addition to the menu.

Just ate dinner at this pub. I ordered a main course seafood pasta at $38 not only was the portion size that of an entree, it lacked flavour and was the blandest meal I’ve ever eaten. The waiter was so disengaged and lacked personality, save your money and go to McDonald’s!

The Caledonian Hotel is quite a surprise. Having not been there for a while, I remembered the 90s iteration of the pub. These days there are a lot of interconnecting spaces for different endeavors. Drink prices are really reasonable and the food was well up there with the best. Bravo!

We had a group dinner here a couple of weeks ago; we had a private room, which was great for our group and probably also for those out in the public space. The food was tasty; serves were massive, which was maybe not so good for a group of aging females! Several women took home doggy bags and quite a bit was returned to the kitchen, which was a pity, as everyone said their meals were good.

The most unwelcoming staff member I've had the misfortune to meet. Been there twice and he's always the same.

Had lunch. Got the seafood basket. Squid was cooked to perfection, only negative was with the batter on the fish. Would have been nice to know it was beer batter as i do not like the tast of beer and it over powed the fish. would have asked for something different.

At the beginning of March 2024 our group held their 70th anniversary of foundation in Barton's Restaurant at the Caledonian Hotel North Adelaide. This was a very important and special event for our members with Her Excellency Frances Adamson AC the Governor of South Australia and Mr Bunten in attendance with other special guests. The planning of the event took place over a number of months. I can not thank Jacqui, our Caledonian Event Coordinator enough for her professionalism, willingness to be flexible and to do anything she could to ensure the event went smoothly, meeting the tight timeline required for the Governor's attendance. The whole event went smoothly with no hiccups. I want to also acknowledge the wonderful service we received on the day from Jacqui, the Chef and kitchen staff and the waiting staff. They all played an important and integral part in the success of the event. Barton's Restaurant was an ideal venue for us and the professionalism of their staff exemplary. I would recommend this venue for any special event you are planning.

Amazing food my mushroom ravioli with a hint of chilli in it was absolutely brilliant best ravioli I’ve had in ages. The service was great and the atmosphere was amazing. I definitely recommend this place.

Ordered half rack of pork ribs, portion was very tiny and flavourless unfortunately.

Not so great Vegetarian options. The Vegetable Pie served for main was below average, It was just a pastry sheet and bit of veggies wrapped. Will never go unless it is absolute necessary.

It's a great place to eat. Wonderful food. We had the barramundi. Staff are really good and friendly.

Christmas Party was pretty average. The good times and laughter were had, but the rest was average. The furniture is wobbly and needs some TLC
