Nice airy place, where staff have casual but professional outlook. Food from when ordered did not take long to come out. Food was quite nice and would definitely go back again.

Nice spot on the upmarket side of things. Great service and food. Enjoyed sitting out on the Melbourne St side and watching the world go by.

I have never done a review before, but I really need to do one for the Old Lion. I was with my 90 yo parents today. After ordering we waited one hour for our food, which never came. When we asked what was happening we were told the order had not been passed on and because they had electricians in the kitchen no food was coming. Wow! We're locals but today a line was drawn in the sand (after a string of lack-luster visits to the Old Lion). I hope the standard improves because it's just not good enough at the moment.

One of my favourites in Adelaide! The food is fresh and tasty and always consistent, and the service is fast and friendly — whether it’s meal service or at the bar. Monday to Wednesday there are also specials, so you can get great value meals and drinks (e.g. $20 schnitzel, including sauce/topping). Seating is plentiful, and there are lots of areas for all weather. My preference is always the verandah. Such a nice atmosphere and vibe, and often there’s live music playing, too. Strert parking in the area is plentiful, so it’s a convenient meeting point for any occasion, and even corporate events or functions. The Lion restaurant is always great for a more ‘fancy’ meal, too.

Roar like a LION. Take note foodies, this is what gastro pubs where like in Melbourne in pre covid. I dined at the venue 2 years ago and is still delivering the goods. Great exceptional food quality and on time service wow ! I cannot express its a must if you come to Adelaide. I would also like to point out that I dined in the restaurant area and they are still using the white table cloth. Well done 👏 as they obviously understand that dining is table cloth. Walk out with a smile on your face

The Schnitzel was very disappointing. The Wednesday night quiz was very dull. And we booked for 5 people and were given 1 tiny round bistro table.

Best steak I ever had in SA

Pay $22 for a Bayleys at the end of the night. Start to enjoy it and the waiter tells you. Sorry you will have to pour it into a plastic cup. I need your glass and I am staying in the apartments next to the hotel. Not allowed to take to the room. Must be expensive crystal - NOT!!

Casual breakfast - delicious food great coffee reasonable prices. Good parking

We went for a chill out Sunday day time lunch and ordered burger specials and calamari. Food tasted good and burger deal is reasonable. However, problem started when we ordered macadamia cake and vanilla ice cream. My wife ordered and paid at the bar and when she went to toilet and the staff member came and requested for the payment as I was told the previous payment did not go through. I paid with my credit card. Later at that day we checked and we were charged twice for the same item. This is not acceptable and bad customer experience. I have raised via email this issue and never heard back from the venue. Only reason I gave them 2 stars because food was good. Otherwise, it would had been zero because of this double charging. The reason I changed the rating because lion hotel contacted and provided refund for overcharged amount.

Everything was exceptional from start to finish. Only suggestion would be to return back to using traditional long Stem elegant Martini glasses as the ones used were short, unsightly & - felt awkward in hand. They were not befitting a drink of this style... Thank you to Lilly who attended our table for NYE Lunch & to Tobi & Ally for making us always feel so welcome every visit 🙏

Booking for 8 people,arrived 10 min early to find they had put someone else on our booked table. Found us a table ,next to 3 tables with noisy babies . Brought water, forgot to come back with menus and cutlery. Eventually chased it myself.Ordered steak and chips,med rare, as did a 2nd person. Came well done,dry and unappetising. Waitress cleared the other 6 plates(they were happy with their meals).Refused to take our plates despite me stacking the 2 on top of each other,and putting them on the edge of the table. Even delivered a meal to next table 2 feet away, and did not take the plates! Eventually the other steak non-eater took the plates to the bar,who of course had nothing to do with it and very apologetic.Very disappointed.

Nice hotel with good food. Beers on tap are on the expensive side. QR code on tables only let you see the menu, but not order.

Had great times here, but one staff member left it sour. Visiting 21/12, good vibes with people enjoying Christmas shutdown and their parties. I booked a table for three outside - arrived and the lady behind the food counter had arranged a table for two inside. On showing her the booking confirmation on email, she exclaimed, “well we’ve been really busy tonight and all the tables have been taken, so..” She said she’d go look for one, but we ended up finding one ourselves - I went back in to let her know, but she’d returned to cleaning menus behind the counter. A little later on, not long after 21:00, I went to see if the were still doing chips, but I was told the kitchen was closed. That’s fine, but it was just the attitude with the delivery. We’ll be back, the vibe is nice here and the drinks were good! Hopefully we get a better roster.

Very busy night, walked a long way to order my meal from outside and was asked my table number which I didn’t note as there wasn’t one, is that my job? Paid for meal, and luckily I was given a table number Then I had to go to the bar around the corner, another trip to order wine and pay again, so not a lot of personal service, wine staff helpful but so noisy very difficult to hear anyone. Ordered prawn entree to share but main course arrived first, whoops! The prawns were in a very heavy batter like a fish finger but soggy Unpleasant really Steak was good and well cooked but plate swimming in oil Disappointing over all. Everyone was doing their job but……….

Just my wife and I , for a quick meal. Staff busy and not helpful Ordered a shared entree which arrived after the mains, even tho we had specified it was an entree. It was the panko prawns.(4) Terrible , essence of prawn in a heavy soggy batter. Will not return.

I’m a little disappointed with the quality of the food, a Beef Parmy and fish and chips, i had an upset stomach for the rest of the afternoon after eating the fish and chips (with no allergies), and my wife only ate half the Parmy

End of year, work dinner. There were only 4 of us. We had a table in the bistro. It was a hot day and it was uncomfortably hot in there. Possibly just where our table was right in a corner, but it was really sticky. We ordered entrees to share, they were delicious but unfortunately although we were far from finished our mains arrived. That had us met with that awkward moment where the servers are like, my hands are full, can you make room in a table that literally has no room. So despite the fact we were still eating, we had to stack plates and move food from one plate to another to allow space to put down the next course. Perhaps for future reference, order your entrees and have them and then order your mains. After dinner, we went and sat outside, which was cooler and really nice next to the leafy trees. It's not the establishments fault it was so hot, but definitely something to move the air around inside would be great. On the food, it was yummy, the potato cakes were light and not oily. The trio of cheese dip was served with delicious garlic bread. If you get the warm nuts, it's a small serve. Smitzels were good-sized and the coating delicious.

A quick stop after a walk for some delicious affogato.. generous serve. Lovely to sit under the verandah and enjoy the sunny day.

Vibrant atmosphere, food is good, price is fair. The steak was good but the chicken wings not so much.

Food waa yummy and fresh but maybe on the small side, sent the salad back, but they added to it and made it better.. Had a free spritz day with a DJ so that waa good. Overall a good day out.

Had the peri peri chicken and it was very nice. My lad had the schnitzel and also very happy. Will definitely be back.

My wife & I came into town this evening on The Overland Train and are staying at the Majestic Old Lion apartments. Wanted some where close to have dinner. We were both really happy with our food. I had the sweet and sour pork, which was yummy. My wife’s Perri Perri chicken was great too by her account.

I booked a table for 10 guests for my Son’s Birthday on 21/09/24 Seven of our guests ordered the steak and steak’s were either under cooked or over cooked and the steak’s sauce was so salty that they couldn’t eat it . Because all of them were invited for the dinner and I paid for the table they didn’t mention anything. Next day my son said that the steak was terrible and I called my guests and all of them confirmed that. I had to go get my credit card the next day since they forgot to give it back I complained about the steak to the manager and she said she’ll follow it up and took my number to call me back . I haven’t heard anything from her and absolutely disappointed about the service and the way they handled it. I paid $1000 for my table.

Breakfast stop, close to accommodation in North Adelaide. Fast service, friendly staff, lovely food before a day of touring.

Champers needs to be cooler, but still fine

I ordered a mojito and honestly it was disappointing; first I can't finish it because of poor quality straw, second it wasn't mixed properly cuz I found all the sugar in the bottom of the glass and last but not less too much peppermint for my taste. Pay 20 Bucks for this drink isn't worth. Other recommendations is that the bar has all the speakers are on the top and it's nearly impossible to order properly because of the noise I reckon that your staff could go deaf in the future.

I got the linguini marinara and it was served cold the calamari tasted like it wasn’t defrosted properly. the staff were lovely and gave me a new dish when i asked them to heat it in the microwave, however there was a cockroach walking on the wall. my mother who ordered the pie is currently up sick from food poisoning

The restaurant manager who served us today was a good communicator, professional, and easygoing. The food was top-notch, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

This place was very good in my opinion I got given a very good sever and had no complaints overall food didn’t take that long and it wasn’t that bad would recommend.

Beautiful hotel. The food was delicious- the salad dressing is the best and the chickenschnitzel was cooked perfectly. Would recommend for a meal without a problem.

Food was amazing as well as the service.

Decent looking place, service was generally good, but the food was pretty ordinary. I had a chicken parmi which looked great until I tried to eat it, under a heap of ham and cheese there was a tiny, thin, overcooked schnitzel that was probably more breading than meat, and was probably the worst I can remember having. Other people on the table had steaks, only one was cooked right, the others were well over.

Sound system was not the best yet I've seen Beats on Parade play at other gigs without sound issues. Maybe replace the cables as whenever the DJ spoke it was this inaudible high pitched shrill. Once the DJ stopped speaking it wasn't too bad despite the system cutting out on one speaker. Once it was stable, it was fine. Don't use an MC if the mics aren't working - trust me, I'm a sound engineer.

One of the nicest hotels in Adelaide with a great restaurant and bistro with excellent food and friendly staff.
