I had my son s 40th birthday party at the gateway Mildura last night in the separate function room and was totally disappointed in the whole experience .Myself and my guests travelled from all over vic to attend the event . Unbekownest to anyone including me one of the guests was cut off at the bar but was later seen by bar staff with another drink . The bar staff at about 900pm then cut all my guests off from the bar which completely ruined my son,s birthday .All of this could have been averted if someone from the gateway had alerted me there was a problem with one of the guests and I could of resolved the issue instead of ruining my son,s 40 th . I doubt whether I will ever attend the venue again

We just did a long drive from Adelaide on our way home. Decided to stop here for late lunch. We ended up parking on the side of the road as we are towing a van and we could not fit anywhere else. Very hungry and hot (43 degrees temperature) with whiny kids, was looking forward to getting inside a cool place. We ended up entering the wrong side of the establishment into the gaming room with the kids because that was the door closest to where we parked and we were not familiar with the place. One staff treated as badly like stray dogs, pretty much loudly shooing us over and over without giving us a chance to speak, and aggresively herding us out the door. Quite embarassing as there were other people there. What a way to ruin an already hectic day. Thanks! It does not hurt you to treat us like human beings who made a mistake! You were very very rude talking to us like little kids. Ended up eating somewhere else! -E

Brilliant

Food was very average and oily. Chips were old and oily. All tables were sticky residue on surface. Waitress dropped a knife on my skirt. Grubby. Not coming back. Rated one of worst food ever in my list. Sorry to do such a poor review but lift you’re game.

This pub use to be amazing meals now it’s gone down hill. My friends steak was way over cooked and burnt it was black on the out side. My steak was not the best quantity it was dry in some places, was meant to be rare came out medium, for the price very disappointing best thing is there chips…

Very disappointed with a $43.00 scotch fillet steak absolutely terrible presentation a thin over cooked medium rare thrown on top of a pile of chips and sauce over it no garnish at all my husband’s mixed grill ok but nothing great about it either very disappointing experience

My work place had their Xmas function at verde this year. They didn’t put enough staff on to cope with the volume of patrons and had to wait long periods to get anything. The squid on the menu was awful- arrived cold and soggy with a limp side salad. $33 for a dozen thawed frozen squid ‘chips’ and the rest of the plate covered in cold actual chips was an absolute rip-off. $12.50 for a ready to drink bottle of Rusky is also outrageous. This was my first time dining at verde after a previous poor experience and after today’s woeful offering I won’t be back. Reply to Gateway reply: Are you serious? Bring it up with staff on the day? What staff? How was complaining about the quality of the meal going to change anything? They would have brought out another plate of the same frozen cheap rubbish only warm (possibly… ?). Ridiculous markups to exploit the season at the expense of patron satisfaction is just pure greed on your behalf. For the prices you were asking I would expect fresh squid not frozen garbage.

Very busy place (ate at Verde) but the food, staff and atmosphere is lovely. Inside has pool tables and air conditioning which is great for summer

We went here for a fabulous two different nights dinner 🤤 OMG it was so good!!! We were in the middle of our Victoria road trip & this restaurant was exactly what we needed!!! Healthy, veges, mashed potatoes and meat. We had roast pork & lamb & Barramundi & a chicken dish over the two nights. We highly recommend this restaurant 🤤👍🙂 Excellent pricing!

Edit after response: They claim it's a logistics issue with a aseperate kitchen, but it's literally the same area, with Verde being the outdoor section. So if you want to sit outside, they raise the average cheque (have a more expensive menu with the same food suppliers.) That's all it is. So if you want fresh air, you must pay more money. It shows where we were sitting in the photo. Such a logistics issue. It's better if you just don't reposed and stop using chat gpt. The Gateway is attempting to position Verde as a standalone, upscale restaurant with a higher price point, which makes sense for raising the average check. However, the execution of this strategy has some clear shortcomings, particularly when it clashes with the family-friendly atmosphere of the rest of the venue. I recently visited and was seated in the outdoor Verde area, hoping to enjoy the more refined setting. However, when I tried to order from the sports bar menu, I was rudely informed that I could not do so while sitting in the Verde space. This felt like a disconnect between the upscale dining concept of Verde and the practical reality of The Gateway being a regional pub that's popular with families and children. Many families, myself included, appreciate the flexibility of ordering from the sports bar, which offers a more casual and accessible menu. Restricting this option felt unnecessarily rigid and unaccommodating. While I understand that The Gateway is trying to elevate Verde, this strategy feels out of place within the context of a pub that caters primarily to families looking for a relaxed dining experience. It would make more sense to integrate the two areas more thoughtfully, perhaps by offering clearer communication about the menu boundaries or allowing some flexibility for those enjoying the outdoor area. As it stands, the current approach just seems frustrating, especially when the casual, family-friendly vibe of the pub clashes with the more exclusive feel of Verde. I hope The Gateway can reconsider its approach to create a more seamless experience for guests, as the current setup just ends up irritating people rather than enhancing their visit.

Good meals and service

Food is always good. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is good in Verde.

Don’t get me started, Mg sister and her friends booked a reservation and they were all 17 but were told that they were not old enough to enter so they waited for one of there parents to look after them as they were the staff were looking for 30mins to find a table for them since there reservation was taking by someone else. Unbelievable!!!

The kids meals were good. Chips were good, brisket was good. Steak was smothered in sauce rather than served in a jug like pretty much everywhere I’ve been, this made me question the cut and quality of the steak; which was quite gristly. Sticky date was awful, only a drizzle of sauce and a couple of tablespoons of ice cream. One of the plates was also two random slices of dry edge rather one piece of pudding like the other. The jug of soft drink also had bugs in it (twice). The bar staff rectified this when asked. Kids zone is great if you have playground age kids. There is no expectation of quiet in there as it’s seperate to the bistro.

We called in for a quick dinner while driving through Mildura. The garlic bread, and roast lamb pizza were tasty and delivered to our table quickly. Our drinks were nicely chilled and well priced, and everything was served with a smile. Highly recommended.

Ordered lambs fry no onion no red wine gravy what was bought to the table for me to eat was lambs fry onion and red wine gravy when I said it wasn't what I ordered the waitress then bought me out a gravy boat with gravy omg, I told her it's not what I wanted and told her what I ordered. I don't know who doesn't read the order properly but I had to wait for another meal to be cooked how I ordered it. I should've gotten my meal free for the stuff up because someone in kitchen doesn't read I'm allergic to wine of any sort not very happy with gateway now

Had seafood catch was nice but so much batter, it's probably personal preference but I found it a bit sickening by the time I was 3 quarters through. Food was nice though. Service was good and relatively quick. There is a little playground there for kids too which is great.

Lunch is always great here, fresh, good servings, extensive menu. Barramundi is to die for!

An order that arrives 45 minutes later for a mediocre table service where we do not forget a cocktail in the order

I prefer to go elsewhere ,food is better at the workingmans and the service is better anywhere else, the amount of time you have to wait for your food at verde is ridiculous and i personally know other business owners in mildura who are not impressed with this over rated establishment, the arrogance of management at this place is like nothing I've seen before and the playground is dirty and unfit for kids,My family and i and many of my friends do not endorse this place at all. *update* After their reply to this post, I see it only, that thier trying to seem responsive. this pub is the worst..don't take any notice of thier response,it's pure crap from management down. but notice they only addressed verde wait time not management attitude....go elsewhere people particularly the workingmans club..

Been here plenty of times , and i would say this was possibly the worst. As gou can see i gave 1 star for the food ,, im not going to go throuvh everything we ordered , , i will just say that not one of us enjoyed thier individual meal ,,, and the salads that come with the meals aas so bad ,,, we actually got a waitress to taste , she wouldnt , but did smell it and said it didnt smell very nice. Long story , long ,(lol) i doubt i will go there again in a hurry

What a discussing example of hospitality. Loud beyond acceptable. Unfortunately, on this night, I didn't take my phone with me to take photos for proof of my red raw chicken. I was told by the waitresses that the cheff said what I thought was raw chicken was infact ham. Yes, that chicken was stuffed with ham, but raw red chicken is raw chicken. I was offered a meal of my choice in compensation but i declined as I know what happens then, spit all round or worse. I was given a complete refund but would never eat here again. It will be the talk of our 80 strong group tomorrow, I am sure. Think twice if you want a quiet quality meal. Why do pub cooks think they are chefs.

Had Lamb cutlets were good, but veggies over from last week's roast I suspect way over cooked, bar staff very poorly run, stand there for ages, while other people pop in and get served, not how most places work.

I have too say this place is amazing, food and service is absolutely incredible, if I could give 10 stars I would, this place would definitely beat any Sydney restaurant I have been too.

Recently went for family meal after a long wait our food arrived the oysters we ordered were overcooked to the point of nearly burnt, the scotch fillet came next also.burnt as I ordered medium the dish was sent back without hesitation by the waitresses 2nd steak came out not much better with a large portion of it being gristle, not good enough when paying $50 they will need to step it up

Come in tonight with a group of friends (Melb) had the best experience, Paul the manager was fantastic and helped us out with everything we needed and was the best customer service. 10/10

Supreme Chicken tasted like it had been in a fridge and microwaved. Dry and had a weird taste. My Partner had cutlets and they were basically all fat, no meat whatsoever. Got asked if we wanted something else off the menu which was appreciated but couldn’t bring ourselves to try another dish.

Clean and tidy place for pub meal - in the Sports Bar - apparently the Steaks were given a 6 average by 3 and I had stale sandwich without the bread which was nice. Lots of TV’s going on all with different channels, obviously seemed popular for a Tuesday night perhaps after footy training? Service was terrific

Just wanted to give a shout out to the staff and chefs for the amazing food and service tonight. The beef brisket was to die for and the burger and Parma got the thumbs up from my boys and the meatloaf for the seniors meal was one of the best I got told ! Working and managing in hospo for over 20 years I was impressed with your staff and how your venue ran. Loved the place. Very well organised and attentive service by all, in particular the young man waiting tables, so lovely.

Went to the gateway for my grandaughters birthday on 9/7/24.While the Entrees were served quickly we waited nearly an hour for the mains,I find this to be very poor service.I have had a poor experience here before and only went there last night as my grandaughter wanted too.

Very disappointing food. Looked up best pub meal in Mildura and even though reviews said it was expensive we gave it a go. Hmm gross. Not nice meals maybe they had too much to choose from but everything from the chips to the cutlets was ordinary
