Welcome to The Grand Hotel, Mornington!
Built in 1889, The Grand Hotel has stood as a landmark in Mornington for over 125 years. Originally known as the Grand Coffee Palace, it later became the Grand Hotel. This historic building is registered on the Historic Buildings Register and recognized as a site of historical significance by the National Trust of Australia.
The original structure was modest, spanning only about 10 meters and encompassing the area beneath the tower. Over the years, the building has undergone several additions and renovations, most notably in the 1920s. The Grand Hotel has been graced by three towers throughout its history, though it stood without one for 39 years before the current tower was erected.

Great place to dine at. Lovely meals with a variety of drinks.
It was Wednesday night so was advertised as steak night. We ordered three steaks with extras. My sons steak came out and was a big thick steak but cooked rare and not medium. My steak, supposedly same cut was flat and thin and was cooked welldone and not medium. The onion rings were so overcooked that it was just batter and no onion. 3 prawns in a side dish for 12 dollars. Side of vegetables- broccoli was mush. Garlic bread burnt and hardly any garlic on it. A very expensive and disappointing experience.
Best hotel feed I have had in 10 years. Delicious seafood in tagliatelli. The veal was actually veal and very good. Very good air-conditioned nicely presented Bistro.
Tried to get a bite to eat with the misses both 17 and wouldn't let us eat not trying to drink just wanted a nice pub meal
Reasonable meal, good wine selection.
Was here around noon on a Wednesday and it was somewhat busy. Mostly retirees and seniors having lunch. We sat indoors and had a view of Main st. The hot chocolate was excellent. Kind of a rustic and more traditional interior. Comfy seating. Can't complain. There is also the pokies area with drinks available and a outdoor smoking area as well as two sofa seats where you can sit near the pokies area.
Had drinks nice atmosphere outside
I seriously did not think that there was such a thing as a bad Chicken Parma. Until today that is. Service was wonderful, but when my Parma came out it was warm at best and the chips weren’t much better. The chicken was dry, the crumbs were soggy and it seriously lacked taste. Very bland indeed. It was obvious that this Parma was not cooked fresh. It had been sitting in a warmer or similar for quite some time. That could be the only explanation. I didn’t think that a Parma could be rated any less than a 5 or 6. This didn’t even deserve a rating. Maybe a bad day in the kitchen? Maybe a mix up as to why I was served my meal in this condition. The wait wasn’t long so there is no way in the world it would have been served only just warm if it was cooked fresh. The Parma is my go to meal so I won’t be back. So this is your reply. Thank you for your valuable feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience with the Chicken Parma. We always strive to deliver fresh, high-quality meals, and it’s disappointing to hear that your dish didn’t meet those standards. It sounds like there was a lapse in quality control, and we deeply regret that the meal you received was not freshly prepared and served at the right temperature. We can assure you this is not typical of our kitchen, and we will be reviewing our processes to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. We truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we’d love the chance to welcome you back for a much better experience. Thank you from the team at Grand Hotel. After I submitted my review yesterday, I went through and read other reviews. It does appear that this is common, particularly with the Parma. Same comments, soggy on outside, dry on inside and bland. So please stop with the lip service and actually do something about it. these reviews have been ongoing for 12 months. 24 hours later and I still have a shit taste in my mouth from your food. I spoke to a boke today that I work with that lives in the area and he laughed and replied that your hotel has gone backwards in the last 12 months or so. It used to be his and his friends local but not anymore. Sounds like a change of supplier or chef should be on the cards. Or maybe its just upper management like yourself that is the problem.
The meal I had was dry and a little tasteless (Gnocci). Waitress seemed like she really did not want to be there and walked away from the Register as we approached to order, leaving a queue who wanted to order while tables were cleared by her.
Enjoyed our Christmas lunch at grand and a very delicious main course definitely coming back.
Spent #10 🙏 hahahahaha, like st $10
Delicious food every time we go .. personal favourite Nasi Gorange & paella .
Came as a group of 16 and after seeing steak night show up on there board with another add for the seniors menu we had all decided what to eat however after placing our order we where told we would be charged for the normal item prices as there not offering these deals on public holidays nowhere on the menu or board is this stated and when the staff act all high and mighty when they inform you of this fact it makes the experience that much worse. Food was alright but nothing to brag home about. Would also be nice for a pub to be able to mix drinks perhaps having a bartender over the age of 16 would solve this problem. Was also asked for id just to sit down and order food last I checked you only need a id to drink or enter the pokies didn’t know you need it to enter the dinning area
Very disappointed Advertising steak night on a Wednesday and didn’t honour it As it was New Year’s Day Don’t advertise it if you don’t honour it And also don’t do senior menu on public holidays Not stated
False advertising for steak night couldn’t get the discount
Very friendly staff. Great experience
Usually a reasonable good meal. BUT sorry Xmas day was a totally shocking experience, $150 ph From entree to end was awful. Entree tartlets were stale & tasteless, shared entree platter, Where to start!! Seafood overcooked & tasteless. Main meal was all processed meats no flavour whatsoever. Mock cream on the Pavlova . And as we were waiting soooo long for service just some Christmas music would have certainly helped the atmosphere.
Bouncer 333 should be fired immediately. Had 0 drinks and wasn’t let it. No reason for not letting us in as well
The Scotch Fillet was the best steak I've had all year! My compliments to the chef. 👨🍳
decided to try Parma night , we both ordered Parma and I had the Hawaiian , there was 6 small pieces of pineapple on top ,the crumbing was terrible soggy and inedible so I pointed it out to the waitress not really happy but she said she would change it, she then presented another one a few minutes later but the second bite in the chicken was cold, the crumbing again was soggy tasteless so I pointed out again to the waitress that chicken not heated properly can cause food poisoning, she did offer a coffee but didn’t come back to our table, I didn’t ask for the money back as I had used the facilities, my friend refused a second Parma and instead had the steak, nicely cooked . the waitress did tell us that they had a new supplier, I pointed out it’s the chef who cooks the meal and should be responsible. Won’t be going back
Went on a Wednesday which is steak night We had a portahouse with chips for $30. Large steak cooked perfectly to order with a lovely pepper sauce. Good range of drinks at the bar and lots of parking available.
Great Chicken Parma & Thai Chicken Curry.
Pretty standard pub atmosphere but near the best garlic prawns we've had, and the mushroom risotto was excellent too. Good service, definitely worth a visit if you like pubs.
Nice meals... bar or bistro ..sitting outside for Sunday lunch is aWinner
Food staff were great, bar staff inadequate for the patrons there.
Jamaican meatballs was delicious. Variety of chef specials available.
Nice hotel in Middle of shopping strip. Food was great. Has sportsbar, pokies ,restaurant and easy parking at back of hotel
Unfortunately the food was dreadful tonight ! Parma & schnitzel were burnt and dry, The roast pork dinner was disgusting, couldn’t eat it !!! Won’t be returning.
Nice place to come and have a beer
Mongolian lamb was fantastic.
Disappointing, average, overpriced meal for everyone on the table. Meals came out at different times and the FOH staff were too busy talking to each other to give service. If I could rate less than 1 star, I would. Never be back.
Disappointed with the food
Good food and service
Very Very good service and nice staff
Well well ,had the best service and fabulous food here today ,the staff couldn’t be more helpful Thankyou ladies .This hotel has to be one of the best in Mornington, and the heritage building and historical pictures that surround the walls are amazing. We love ❤️ our Mornington and this hotel is a gem 💎 Thankyou a local myself.
Always easy access and staff are very friendly
The absolutely worst meal ever, Garlic Prawns, no Garlic, prawns served on a bed of sloppy fried onions on a old woody cabbage leaf, sauce was the consistency of Milk. I left most of the prawns. My girlfriend left most of her Roast pork, tough meat and raw Vegs. Woke up up this morning at 3am with D------a. Bernie Taylor would be turning in his grave if he saw the meals we got served yesterday. Oddly enough Last time I attended your est. I ordered Calamari, I sent 99% of it back it was totally inedible. What a shame, good venue reasonable staff, spend some money and employ some decent Chefs,
Staff are so friendly 😀 great food.
I’d like to commend Lachie for his fantastic and attentive customer service. He’s been an amazing part of the establishment. Looking forward to seeing him with a managers badge very soon. Thanks Lachie, you make this place worth coming too.
Cosy warm dining area, food was enjoyable, service pleasant
Crumbed prawns with zesty coleslaw absolutely enjoyable. Could have had for a main meal it was delicious. Fish in batter, although safe, it was tasty, not watery and clean, crisp batter. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and clean. The staff were welcoming and extremely efficient.
Not sure if staff member was new but not that helpful
Great food and service
Excellent meals and great vibe
S18.60 for a bowl of wedges, was told there was a surcharge must have been 50 percent !! No surprise the place was empty
Food was average Staff presentation poor One staff member was very rude won’t be back
Happy place , lovely friendly helpful staff....
Nice middle of the road pub with a great bistro, bar and Tab and pokies if that tickles your fancy.
Solid food, great venue for a big event like UFC or the footy.
This would have to be the best hotel on the Mornington peninsula. The food is excellent and well priced. The staff are very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is great. It is the first time that we have been there and we will continue to go there regularly from now on.
Great place for lunch with the family. Really yummy chicken parma!
Enjoyed a flying visit and enjoyed a decent parma.
Had a quick lunch today and it was lovely. Nice to have somewhere to eat where it's not too noisy with background music.
Would not recommend, absolute dive go next door great food
Food was ok old school pub food I guess
Elegance and old world charm..none better in Queenscliff for a quiet beverage...
A great place for lunch. Food was great with generous sizes. The staff were amazing that gave wonderful service
Awesome beef ribs
Went for nostalgic reasons as used to go with my aunty many years ago. Unfortunately it’s gone down hill. Needs a good clean inside and out. Lovely pictures showing the history of the hotel. They have preserved stained glass windows etc which are beautiful.
My partner and I go to The Grand almost every Monday Tuesday and then go on weekends Friday nights, whenever we have a chance. We play a lot of pool there and have dinner too. It's great?
