About Us – Ship Inn
Our Story
The Ship Inn has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s iconic history, originally standing tall a few metres closer to the Quay, from 1868 until it was rebuilt on its current site in 1902 directly over the mouth of the Tank Stream, on blackbutt timber piles driven 30 metres deep into the harbour mudflats. Given an art-deco makeover by Tooth’s Brewery in 1936, the Ship has now been reimagined with a nod to its rich deco heritage, seamlessly blending timeless elegance with contemporary sophistication. Nestled between two of Australia’s most famous landmarks – the Opera House and Harbour Bridge – our venue celebrates its storied past while offering warm hospitality and a true Sydney welcome.
Unique Experience
Step into a world of refined indulgence at the Ship Inn. Our Art Deco-inspired interior sets the stage for you to enjoy a wide selection of Australian and international gins, whiskeys, wines, and beers, alongside a menu crafted from the freshest produce Sydney has to offer. Open ‘til late every night of the week, our boutique bar & bistro offers a welcoming escape for Sydneysiders, visitors, and anyone looking to relax and take their time in a stylish, one-of-a-kind venue right in the heart of Sydney.

The Place to be! Always so easy to get a drink and the food is always on point! The Pizzas...are amazing!! The staff always so friendly! Great place to meet up with friends or even to just relax and people watch!
Good place for a drink near Circular Quay, pick an outdoor table to reduce the noise.
Went with 2 friends for pizza and a couple of drinks. Bar staff are lovely. Pizzas are great. A southerly blow over a glass of champers that covered the pizza. A big thank you to the manager and staff for replacing both 🙏 Next time we are in the city we will return. The new upgrade works are great. Quality furnishings. Definitely worth a visit
晚上喝喝啤酒,聊天很適合,剛好在飯店旁
Outdoor seating is nice.
賑やか
We had lunch here, great location near Circular Quay. Staff were happy to join 3 outside tables together for our larger group. Food choices were good and the fish and chips was stellar!
Nice ambiance
I want to give this place 3.5 stars. The barstaff was quite overwhelmed on Australia Day and understandably so. It was very busy. The alcoholic ginger beer is refreshing and the bathrooms are clean, but I wouldn’t go again on a busy day.
Clean, well run.
First time in Australia, and this is the best bar
Good food good service.
Renovated and nice
Great for a quick drink after work or weekend meet-ups. Fantastic new look.
Nice place for a bevvy.
First time back since the reno which is impressive. Great apot to watch world go by. . Service staff were pretty good. The drinks though seem very steep - standard beer pint $14 a “large” glass of Chardonnay $17. The call out for me was the security guy Atu - has such a large presence, takes his job seriously but done in a way that is intended - the safety and wellbeing of patrons and establishment and its staff - but in a friendly engaging way. Very different to my last encounter with security folk there. So nice to have the pub open again but gentle on the prices, keep Atu on the team.
My friend & I spent a lovely long Friday afternoon here recently & our waitress Bella was fabulous, really made our day 🥰
One of the worst places I’ve ever been in Sydney, they recently reopened with a revamp. The staff is incredibly unfriendly, especially the security. The prices are very high for sub-par quality. I also believe the food made me sick for days. Avoid it at all costs.
Cool place
So unfortunate to say this, as I regular here quite often. However I will never come back after this. The bouncer/security is absolutely disgusting, multiple people were shocked at how he spoke to customers. He made me so uncomfortable and disrespected. I believe his name was Dennis. Owners and management should seriously consider someone actually capable for the job. Such a unprofessional and unintelligent bouncer, eating muffins and food while talking to customers at the door. We had spent hundreds of dollars, and yet he wouldn’t let me in and out of the doors to get the drinks from the bar. This business is losing so much money and integrity just from hiring this person, as people were walking away from Dennis and leaving after being hassled by him.
My wife and I (both 30yo) wanted to eat pizza (we didn’t even think about drinking alcohol), but we forgot our visa at the hotel (we were spending a holiday night in Sydney…). We were turned away at the entrance. See you in the next life.
The place to be! 3 minutes walking from opera Staff is great, food is good. What else ?
Good food and great atmosphere. However, without any high chairs for kids, our time was a bit difficult.
Great location. I used to love coming here but I won’t be coming here anymore. I got charged $17.50 for a schooner of Asahi, my wife got a French martini and it has been repeating on her, to the point she made herself sick to get the taste out of her body. That’s right $17.50 for a schooner, outrageous.
Great place for a bite to eat & good for catch up drinks. Venue nicely renovated - light & airy. Andrew & staff always polite and pleasant.
Great place to have a drink and catch up with friend and colleagues after work. Good food and friendly staff, decor and atmosphere create a laid back and relaxed vibe. Also great cocktail and mocktail.
Very friendly staff and give the kids bags they can keep busy with. Thankyou
The new renovations here are sensational and create a sleek, summer, modern vibe in a great location right on Circular Quay. The manager and his staff here are also just sensational. The warmth of the service feels like that of a country pub in a small town but in one of the best CBD locations in Sydney. Highly recommended
rude establishment, managers are incompetent. don’t know how to make basic cocktails, reopening after 4 months and not having intelligent staff members shows how little the venue cares about their reputation
No festive shirts. Hahaha. Merry Christmas.
Open late on a Sunday , asahi and spirts getting gulped
Absolute poor customer service 6pm refused entry cause we were dressed in Christmas theme no wonder Sydney has died
Refused entry on “RSA” when questioned on alleged RSA they couldn’t back their decision and said - no fancy dress Poor attitude from Management
Makan malam dengan naik kapal dan menyusuri sungai di Sydney akan menjadi pengalaman yg tidak terlupakan.
Really fast service & good prices if you want a quick drink at Circular Quay ✅
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at The Ship Inn. The food was great, and the service was outstanding.
Food was excellent. Music a bit loud however we still enjoyed our meal and time there.
The food here was exceptional! I got a steak sandwich and chips. So so delicious. I shed a tear. Service was also very friendly, and informative. Ambience can’t be beat. A wonderful place to people watch. Such a delight!
Beer was cold but expensive
Food was really good, must try the deep fried corn kernels.Taco’s were also really tasty. The Ship in is right at Circular Quay so a great place to grab drink and a quick bite to eat, staff were also friendly.
Great service! Fast service... Pizza and beer you can't go wrong!
Great spot for people watching.
Great location
Perfect location and opens till late!!
Great staff . Didn't eat there, had a couple of drinks
피자 맛집 디아블로 짱맛 ㅜㅜ🩷 2번째 방문 !😆
Pretty quite on a rainy Saturday, but well poured beers. Very cool historic pub.
Nice pub with aircon indoor and shaded outdoor seating. Good drinks selection. Meat and cheese board was good, but seaweed crackers were bad.
Great pub to share a yarn or 2
Nice little pub. It's very noisy, but great location opposite Circular Quay. Loaded wedges were basic. Too much mozzarella. Could do better with maybe a cheese sauce rather than just straight mozzarella.
☆ Good service ☆ Handy meeting location by train or lightrail ☆ Good cocktails
A great place to people-watch as you eat. The service staff is courteous and friendly. Drinks are fine... The pizza is acceptable (their Pepperoni's are Delicious)... Crust pretty pedestrian and toppings a bit stingy, but cooked to brown the cheese - perfect!
We had a steak wrap and chicken burger, both were delicious and accomodated to GF requirements. The seasoning on the chips is especiously tasty! The greeting from the bouncer and bar service were exceptional. The manager was also friendly, on a night of wild weather he asked where we were headed and advised where to stand in a sheltered position to get an Uber. We had luggage with us and this wasn't an issue. I love visting this bar when I'm in Sydney and tonight exceeded expectations.
Although I didn't get to eat here due to rain damage I was impressed by the Manager's effort to recommend another eating place for us and cleaning up after I split my drink.
This place was close to our hotel so we ate there twice . Great service and the food was great and good serves too . Prices are good too .
Great beers as always and door staff are very civil which is a rarity.
Great food & atmosphere. Service is ok as well.
The Ship Inn is directly opposite the Circular Quay hub on the corner of Pitt Street offering indoor and outdoor seating where you can enjoy light meals and a great variety of drinks including gluten free beer options.
We looked around for ages to find somehwhere to eat on Good Friday, until we found Ship Inn. We found the bouncer extremely friendly and easy to have a joke with. Bar service was also prompt and found the bartenders very friendly. Only downfall was we thought the food took a while but we were more than happy sitting with our drinks whilst we waited. Food was great and my partner stated it was the best pizza he ever had.
Great place for a cheaky after work pint. I'm surprised it's not busier woth how.lobely everyone is.
Good vibes and good food, would recommend!
Nice place to chill and have a beer.
DONT GO!!! Specially if you are Irish I came to your pub with my family on 17th of March at 7pm for a drink, the pub was empty and the bouncers told us it was full. Myself and my two brothers return to this pub for a drink tonight and we were told we were too drunk after only having 2/3 drinks, we were out for a walk to see the bridge at night. The man in front of us who was let in could barely stand his friend was holding him up. The bouncer was nice but the other man in the floral shirt who I assume was the manager wouldn’t leave us in. The minute he heard the Irish accent he wouldn’t leave us in. It was pure discrimination and I couldn’t believe the disrespect. DISGRACEFUL!
Fantastic chips and good selection of beers
Great for crowd watching and cold beer.
