Castello's Olive Tree Hotel

I used to enjoy the occasional visit to this venue.. the staff were great & the food too. All 3 times I’ve been recently, I’ve been greeted with rude, arrogant bar staff! New evening bar staff Aditya has no idea about an RSA. I’ve been accused of being drunk and he doesn’t not let anyone get more than 2 beverages. Even when I’d literally just knocked off work and it was my 1st drink of the evening. I watch all the loud young groups keep ordering drinks over & over - so they can sit in the smokers area of the pokies. Yet I am being watched while I’m quietly wasting some of my hard earned money in the machines.. Find some more staff like Tim who have an idea about customer service.!

I used to visit this venue regularly but have zero interest in returning anymore. My last few experiences at this venue have been poor to say the least. Most of the staff seem to have a ridiculous power complex and are unpleasant. I have been at this venue on at least 2 occasions lately where people have been ‘cut off’. When approached and asked about why no more drinks were getting served the responses were too drunk, walking funny and slurring words all of which is untrue. My partner has a fused ankle so the manner in which he walks is not something that should be questioned. Furthermore I have an accent so if the way I talk is an issue this is prejudice. I truly feel like on multiple occasions the group of people I have been with are targetted. There has certainly been people in the venue who have actually been intoxicated and rowdy there at the same time and yet no repercussions for them. It’s good to read similar reviews from other dissatisfied customers so that perhaps the training that is needed by the staff will be acknowledged.

Fantastic lunch for 20. All had a great time.

Got a bowl of chips early, they were nice. Me and a group of friends came in for drinks to catch up, after 3 drinks a lady and her manager at the bar told my boyfriend he was cut off and said that she had told him, when we had not spoken to us since our last drink. None of us were drunk. She said “this isn’t a bar this is a gaming area” AS WE WERE GAMBLING. Three of us put money in. They continued to stalk and watch us for the rest of the night. From 8.30pm to 12am we had 3 drinks. Outreagous. She was so extremely rude to us and made us so uncomfortable the entire night. This was the only bar open at the time we were there.

Fast friendly and efficient service. Food is always good. Serving sizes are more than adequate. Not too noisy even when it is busy.

Table was so messy, staff were rude, food had hair in it, overrall not a great experience, wouldn't recommend at all xx

My table was a complete mess and once i brought it up to staff, they ignored my request to clean it. Food was below average.

Very disappointed We ordered oysters kilpatrick 1/2 dozen felt oyster’s and bacon were not cooked properly and not enough sauce the pumpkin risotto was served warm rice wasn’t cooked properly but still had to pay will not be coming back

Walked in last night had a booking for 7.15 the look of the place was a very ran down rsl. Tables that close together you couldn’t move when we got there the table wasn’t cleaned and was pretty much ontop of the table of 6 people next to it. Save to safe I just walked out they couldn’t get it cleaned and I didn’t feel like sharing a table with the people next to us and doubt they did either. Wouldn’t return after this experience.

Sorry to say I wouldn't eat here if it was free. Service was fine to a point but the food, omg, presentation was poor at best balsamic vinegar all over the place even with the lamb shoulder, you say roasted tomato's, they were not roasted they were microwaved...do yourself a favour and throw out the microwaves and cook fresh. When the waitress took away my plate it was still 3/4 full, didn't ask why, I'm assuming they know why. I know it's new years eve, but if your going to stay open you should provide a good service. Didn't even ask for a dogie bag, cos I wouldn't even give it to her. Sorry to be harsh but it is what it is and I know your not the only restaurant that uses microwaves, all the best happy new year.

I just walking in to the poked area, I saw a security guard looking at me I Walk up to the bar to get a beer he told the lady at the bar not to serve me, I haven't had not even one drink, I have got a disability I got a little limp and a speech defect, So watch out for security guard no 427 he's a little Indian guy

It's a ok hotel appears to have everything for gambling, sports and food. Not really a kid friendly place . Food above average nothing special.

Food very good but pensioner servings a bit small

Overall a bit pricy, food was not anything special, it was okay but a little bland in terms of the Parma flavour, portion size was good though. It's telling when the part of the meal that tasted the most interesting is the side salad. I personally wouldn't choose to come back here without either reduced prices or a menu/ingredient refresh.

Unfortunately, since the recent change in ownership, both the service and food have declined significantly. This has been our go-to pub for years, but I’m afraid that’s no longer the case.

Was hit and miss a while back but total turn around food was great and service was excellent would highly recommend for number of eateries in town hard to get good food these guys are up there

Doors locked, people inside, and 2.5 hours from closing. Security nowhere to be seen. Just thinking outside the box here, but maybe they should try different business model. In fact, I hear that letting customers in is all the rage these days and may actually improve sales. Or perhaps just hire better staff.

Food and service is good for a pub. Can get busy at times, and it is a little bit pricey for a pub meal.

The linguine marina, below average if I wanted pasta with a tin of tomatoes tipped on it I would stay home. We have been regulars at olive tree for a long time with the prawn, chorizo and chili spaghetti being our favorite please bring back this original dish as you may have just lost some regular customers

Food was really good, menu looked like it had gotten smaller though. The waiter didn’t seem very happy to be there and we also had a lady call us before our booking and ask us if we planned to be late? Very weird. Felt like we were intruding on something and we weren’t welcome

only giving a 2 star because of our server charli who was as equally disgusted with the food my parents received and was extremely kind. my mum received gnocchi that was literally mash potato, mixed with lamb. my dad received raw eggs, charred steak and a cold sausage, like it was in the fridge. they put an extreme amount of balsamic vinegar with roast lamb??? like to the point where i could only eat what was in the middle of the plate or id be met with that extreme bitterness. i watched a server hit a customer in the face with a door and then laugh about it. none of the cash out machines were working. everything was just awful. i would never go back and never ever recommend anyone to go here. try the soccer club instead.

Had dinner tonight, food came relatively quick. Ordered steak and veg, didn’t get potatoes with it and the steak was medium well. Ordered the lamb ragu pasta on the specials board I wouldn’t even feed to my dog, lamb tasted like mutton, won’t be coming back for meals in a hurry! Ballcourt pub in Sunbury is much better don’t waste your time

Celebrate my son's birthday here, we ordered the Marinara and Aussie Parma that are tasty and generous amount amount of serving. We also tried their Biscoff Panna Cotta it is so good. Will definetly comeback again. A great place to dine in and good service.

Food was terrible. We ordered the lamb shoulder, it was dry and the mash was crumbly, the tomato’s had no flavour… it even made me sick the next day. The wagyu burger patty was like a piece of rubber, felt like it had been cooked in a microwave then slapped on some buns, covered in oil. The service overall wasn't too bad, they seemed a little lost with seating even though we had a booking. However, they didn't even bother to ask how our meals were even though they were barely touched.

Haven’t been here for a long time, surprised to found out they have new menu. We ate lunch yesterday and ordered special Lamb Pappardelle it is so delicious, honestly the best pasta I ever had. My mom also enjoyed her lunch she had the Salmon Wellington that is perfectly cooked.

This place was our local go to bistro that offered good food at reasonable price. After eating in this week, the menu has changed, prices have increased and generally the service was pretty ordinary. I understand restaurants are struggling at the moment however the menu is now overpriced and locals just won’t be coming back. On top of this, there were 4 tables to the right of us that sat without staff clearing in the entire time we were there.

Came in here over the weekend. Service was so bad. Never experienced like it before, I work in hospitality so was completely shocked at the lack of service in this place. Decided to leave before I spent any money here. Won't be back.

The olive tree is a big venue plenty of dining area and a public bar as well the outside bar and seating looks good but I have never been there when in use night time I guess. They have pokies to take your money as well if that tickles your fancy. Regards Kevin Knc Assist

The sports bar closes early so can not watch sports when it is happy hour there is not enough schooners to service patrons and some management not all have no idea what they are doing they need to get their act together.

What a disappointment this was. 2 of us dining, 1 drink arrived, had to ask for other one when mains arrived. Pumpkin risotto was tasteless and dry. Ordered lemon tart and meringue. Got half way through it and the meringue was so hard that I removed it to eat after the tart only to find there was paper still attached to the bottom of it. I had unknowingly eaten the other half of the paper. Showed it to the waitress who took it away and showed who I presume was the manager and they quickly scampered back into the kitchen. There was no apology at all. After some time the waitress stopped in passing and asked if I wanted another one. No thank you was my response. To be honest, I was totally turned off by the paper and would not have wanted another one. Again no apology. Whatever happened to good customer service. Paid full price when we left. Good PR would have been to not charge for the contaminated dessert, but they didn't seem to care at all. Overpriced and well under par. Was very disappointed and definately will not be back and will not be recommending this place to anybody.

Very impressed with this venue. For a hotel/pub venue the food was great. I had a steak that was perfectly cooked. My friend had the pork belly and said it was great. Recommend.

Love the food but wish there was more drink options. Anyway I wasted $6 on Uber Eats no can of coke with my order with a nice mango pav and fries with gravy bacon. If the bags or orders ain't going to be checked especially when I'm not 100 per cent had a couple of days of whats the point of Uber at night time. I'm sure other people have had it a millions times worse than me.

Booked a table for 23 of us for my husbands 50th, Sunday lunch. Service was phenomenal, food was amazing, highly recommend

We held a celebration of life for my dad in the covered courtyard- it was lovely and well priced. The staff were awesome and helped me get my presentation working on the big screen. Would recc’d as a cheaper alternative to funeral service (the celebration of life package was reasonably priced). Guests commented the event we ran was not dreary and sad but uplifting and a true reflection of my dad and family. It was a great day Thank you

Never had a bad meal here. Chicken parma menu is my favourite.

Last review Was a little critical. But if you don't hear feedback, nothing happens. This time we enjoyed lunch from the Seniors menu again. Lamb roast was very tasty and juicy. Spaghetti Bolognese was really yummy and went great with garlic bread. Chicken skewers were the Daily special and also tasty. Just a small item, when I asked what the daily special, our attendant said it was roast lamb. Yes, that's the roast of the day. But she assured me it was lamb. When the maitre de took our order, it was chicken skewers. So just ensure staff are informed of dailies. But many thanks for the extra garlic bread upgrade, it is appreciated!

Great restaurant with lots one the menu. Been going here for a few years and it never disappoints. Plenty if onsite parking out the back near the beer garden. I highly recommend this place if you need a nice night out for dinner or lunch. There is also a games room with some pokey machines.

Lovely food with great service

Ordered a Guinness beer and glass wasn't full, then received my dessert only to look at my mates dessert who ordered the same thing and mine was smaller in quantity. Will not be going there again.

Went for dinner had barramundi with vegetables potatoes deep fried looked a week old veggies tarnished and withered tasteless also had stir fried chicken this resembles a soup made with sugar and salt overall a disappointment. Won’t be back Service was however good hence a few stars.

Nice food, I had the squid salt and pepper. Cooked to perfection and a nice salad dressing with the meals side salad. All our meals were well presented One thing the bar staff needs to know. You do Not open a can of Guinness and serve it in the can. You MUST open it and immediately pour it into a glass and then serve it with a frothy head. Not flat and tasteless.

We love Olive Tree, great meals and friendly staff. Windy is the kids favourite host/wait staff 😊 she always remembers their names and makes them laugh.

Utterly disappointed with the poor quality of our porterhouse steak chips salad and mushroom gravy Steak was half the advertised 300g weightand overcooked Use to have the best chips in Sunbury however the quality of the said chip's were sad sorry shrivelled and dry You could count the number of mushrooms in the gravy on one hand Salad? NO DRESSING Whole meal was unpalatable and a huge disappointment to the previously high standards and quality of meals Then we were accused by the Manager telling her staff that we were 'nitpicking!' The discussion we overheard between them and shows their inability to take ownership of their inability to provide value for money and then the Manager said we hadn't even said 'sorry'??? Excuse me? Will never frequent this establishment again and ensure we advise others not to waste their good hard-earned money at The Olive Tree

Would like to thank the team on Saturday night for prompt and efficient service after I suffered a medical episode collapsing and passing out at the bar and being taken to hospital by ambulance. I'm feeling much better now

Good atmosphere. The service was reasonable considering it was early afternoon and the food was excellent considering the price. Would recommend as a good option for lunch.

Late lunch. It was pleasant. Dinner must be the better time to eat here but still pleasant. Waitress was brilliant n a win on the pokies helped.

Amazing menu and very friendly staff. Food is always 5/5 and delicious. Can highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Waited 2.5 hours with kids finally got the kids' food, but still no food for us. The kids finished their food and ice cream, why we are still waiting. A few customers were complaining if there is going to be a wait, it would be good to be told we got there at 12pm leaving at 3 pm still hungry

Wife ordered squid to find coating paler than normal, but otherwise fine to eat. Spent the night unable to sleep due to stomach pain and was sick this morning. You'll be getting no more of our business until your chefs learn how to cook. Avoid - and Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animals!

I was with my family today the 22nd December we were on table 14 I was not happy with how the meals came out Every one except me got their meals By the time my meal came everyone had finished their meals I had the Christmas dinner turkey And Christmas pudding I paid 35.00 for this meal I wanted to be able to eat my meal along with my family When I went to speak to the waitress and the manger they said they are under staff well that's not the customers fault Two people to serve a full room off customers is so wrong I fell like I should have not paid for my meal I am afraid to say I will not be coming back to the OLIVE TREE THANKS VERY UPSET CUSTOMER 👎 PLUS PARKING IS SHOCKING

ordered our meal with drinks which no one bought over had to get from bar. The fish was dry and so small in the batter, salad practically non existing and we waited half an hour for our sweets to come and asked 3 different staff in the end we paid minus our sweets not impressed

Having written 490 reviews and 450 being for food places, i do not like writing bad reviews. But after much consideration, i am writing this review and its totally correct in my opinion. We attended as a large group of seniors and one none senior. The food dished up as seniors meals was well below reasonable standard- fish over cooked, parma wasnt even a parma it was a slither of over cooked chicken. Were as the one non senior meal was beautiful cooked and well presented. Also the Coffee was cold. Maybe it was just a bad day. Will not be coming back
