A beautiful, sophisticated restaurant in the heart of Melbourne. I had the Moreton Bay Bug pasta (with chilli oil) and it was by far the best pasta i've ever had in my life- and I have grown up with pasta from an Italian town. The service was exceptional and they made us feel so very welcome even though we were probably not dressed as nicely as we'd have liked to be, going to such a wonderful place. Could not recommend enough. We only get to Melbourne once every year or two, but we will be back, every single time, and we will be suggesting it to everyone we know also. 😀

Had dinner for 2 people here. Spent $280 which included a steak, drink and dessert. The steak I can’t remember the exact one I got but it was $65, the cheapest one. I will say the steak was a let down. I shouldn’t have to spend $200+ for a tasty steak. The dipping sauces were interesting but not for my taste. The mac and cheese was delicious. Rich in flavour and was very filling. My cocktail, again can’t remember the name lol, but it had Viet Ice coffee in it. That was delicious and lived up to my high expectation. The dessert. The waiter suggested I try the Crème Caramel. I think it was $25 but it had to be one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Customer service was exquisite and was what you expect in a fine dining establishment. All of the food and drink was presented elegantly. I will come back and try a pasta dish next time.

Underwhelming, food was good but not what you would expect in relation to the prices they are charging. Steak tatar had really eneven chunks, it wasn't smooth and too sour. Ravioli was bland, steak had chewe bits and pieces I would think a better trimmed pieces should be served.

They didn’t allow me to enter because of the way I was dressed… Not that I have an issue with it (everyone can have their own opinion) but how are you going to be a business and tell people what they can and can’t wear? However that being said 2 males entered dressed the same as I was but I guess because of my ethnicity and beared I wasn’t allowed and that’s how it seemed to me… I wouldn’t even give one star but that is the lowest you can give on google reviews, I have been places much better than this place who have much better services and I’m guessing food as well, disgusting service and they DEFINITELY JUDGE AS IF THEY ARE HOLY!!, if you guys are looking for fine dining place definitely do not go to this place!

My son and his girlfriend visited Rockpool for dinner one night (a special occasion). They ordered their meals, and all was well until the bill came. They were both charged for the over $200 steak instead of the $100 steak as per their request. In fact, they made sure to make the point they wanted the $100 steak. Rockpool chose not to amend the bill despite the waitress admitting making the mistake. In my eyes, they just exploited the young kids. I'm sure if it was an older couple, the result would have been different. They were offered a $100 voucher for a mistake worth over $250. As a parent, I have left messages twice for an explanation with no call back. It's not the money—they are young and will learn—it's the dishonesty by Rockpool that upsets me. Let's see if they contact me now!!

my 36 month grass fed dry aged fillet was absolutely astonishing, even bloody lived the lemon, since it is a fancy restaurant i knew i had to eat in style, that’s why i used a knife and fork for my lemon, thanks rockpool staff for amazing atmosphere and service. (ps give me a lemon or two )

We were walking passed Rockpool on a Saturday neat and tidy dressed. We did have Birkenstocks on. We are in our early 60,s We asked if we could have lunch there. They said no problem, but we had to sit away from the nice seats at the front by the windows. When I asked why, they said because we had open foot wear on. I thought ok. We sat down, we had the same menu as if we were sitting with a view. I asked do we get a discount, because we were taken to the back The staff just looked at me. Then an Asian walked by with a singlet on and trainers. Apparently he was ok, even though he had a singlet on. I felt discriminated because I was white. I have travelled the world and have never been treated like a second class citizen We walked out. A Very disgraceful attitude

The truffle dishes were outstanding – so fragrant and rich, they truly elevated the entire meal. The steak was cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the truffle flavors. Incredible food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend!

We went to Rockpool expecting the height of Melbourne dining. Unfortunately our experience fell short. We booked a private dining room and selected a 3 course set menu. The venue itself is beautiful, and our room had a lovely view of the river. However, while every dish seemed carefully designed and expertly prepared, some of the serving sizes were laughably small given the price tag. Beer and wine also comes at a ridiculous mark up ($28 for a can of beer you can buy a slab of for $60) and the cocktails are hit and miss (I had a delicious Amaretto sour as well as one of the worst Espresso martinis I've ever had). Given the reputation Rockpool has built for itself, I was expecting more.

The last two times we have been there it has been thoroughly disappointing. It is just not the Rockpool of old. The $240 rib on the bone was well described as a premium offering but in reality was no better than a supermarket cut. Cooked medium but was just tough and chewy. All of the sides were tasty at first but after a couple of bites the overload of butter, oil and other additives became too much. Lovely place to sit and staff were lovely but food has gone way down hill big time!! Food component of bill was just under $500 and to be honest I would rather have had a pizza in our room and given $500 to charity

Whether it is stopping in for a cocktail at the bar, or a full sit down meal, Rockpool never disappoints! The cocktails are inventive and the food superb. The staff make every visit a treasured memory.

Wow. Wow Wow Wow!! I only have 1 word to describe this place. PROFESSIONAL Everything was perfect. Presentation. Taste. Service. Room Temperature. Atmosphere. Me and my best friend both got different cuts of meat, and it was cooked to perfection. Utmost care in ensuring the table was clean and well presented for each plate of food. After so many years, this place is still one of the best places to dine in Melbourne!

Always a high class establishment providing good food but at an expensive price. At crown expect the value to not match the food exactly but the quality is still high. Has dropped off a bit obviously with new chefs coming in and what now but still happy with the visit. Gotta spend a bit more for the nicer steaks around the 80-110 range but well worth, from memory the scotch is really good. The tartare was a delight to eat :)

I dined here with my gf. The entree was very salty , the potato pure was just so oily and the most disappointing part of all is the steak. I came with expectations of enjoying a good steak. We ordered a dry aged rib eye and the beef was so hard and chewy that i couldnt eat it. The staff didnt even accomodate for it. They just told me that the steak was from an old cow and thats the trade off but it will have more flavor. It was bland. Its unfortunate considering i really enjoyed the ambiance and the atmosphere. Will not be coming back

We had our first dining experience at Rockpool and it was incredible. From the lady seating us complimenting mine & my mums dresses, all the servers were wonderful, knowledgeable & service was very quick. The food was phenomenal. Our favorites were the wood fire grilled bone marrow and the flat head. Absolutely five start experience

Title: Rockpool? More Like a Rock and a Hard Place Earlier tonight, my girlfriend and I made a reservation at Rockpool to celebrate a special night out. We’re regulars—this was our third time dining here this month, and we’ve always been welcomed with open arms for our little ritual of ordering just desserts. Well, not this time. After being seated, I let the waitress know we’d be sticking to dessert as usual. Moments later, a different waiter swoops in and, with all the warmth of a parking ticket, informs us we can’t keep our table unless we order main courses and hit a mysterious “$200 minimum.” Excuse me? Not once in our past visits has this magical “rule” ever come up. So we ask if we can hit the $200 with drinks on top of desserts, but Mr. Hospitality over here flatly says “no.” Our options? Sit at the bar or hit the road. Honestly, I thought I was being punked. Imagine: two regulars ready to spend, but Rockpool is acting like we’re some kind of nuisance for wanting to, you know, enjoy their food. We were floored by the frosty, rule-bound “service” we received. The vibe was so rigid and unwelcoming, we half-expected them to start charging us for breathing their air. For a place that claims to be “fine dining,” they sure know how to serve up disappointment on a silver platter. Don’t worry, Rockpool—we won’t be darkening your doorstep again.

The two fish mains were nothing special. Maybe get the overpriced steak instead.

Steak was absolutely amazing so tender and flavoursome. Pavlova never disappoints. Staff so friendly and attentive and ambience was great. Overall amazing and cant wait to go again

Been eating at Rockpool for lunch and dinner. They have an amazing lunch special, a burger, hand cut fries and a beer (or soft drink) for $29. Lunch is laid back where you can also bring in babies (for the parents out there), food is utterly delicious and staff are super friendly. Dinner is way pricer, but the steaks are one of the bests you can get in the state, staff also give you their recommendations based on the type of meat you enjoy eating. The passionfruit pavlova is a must!

Was very disappointed 😔 today with my experience at rockpool crown was there for a birthday celebration that my friend booked was left disappointed in the service we received !!! With many staff and not a full restaurant we did not receive our pre drinks had ask 🤦‍♂️ after we received our bottle of wine which was ordered to come with our food then when we received our mains had to ask again to bring our salad as it was forgotten !!!! Having dined many times over the years and paying a premium too dine at rockpool expected better. Please lift your game guys. Hope the next time is Better

The steak is tasty

Steak was perfectly cooked. Bit overpriced for the product ultimately served however.

I really wanted to like this place. There were positives, but there were a few negatives too that put me off. Positively, the staffs service was top tier, being a higher end restaurant. You are treated really well, and that showed that the complimentary bread and butter were delightful, and the waitress was great. I paid $55 for a main dish pasta, where my two mates ordered the same entree pasta at $35 and you could not convince me that it was two different plates of food, I had exactly the same amount as them but paid $20 more served on a bigger plate. You must have left the rest of the pasta in the pot. The desserts were insulting. $18 for those terrible petit rubbish. And very off-putting having the manager crack on at the staff next to the table and being a bit passive aggressive to them made me actually feel for them. It wasn't a very comfortable feeling. Speaking to staff should be done away from guests' views and in a manner where it can't be heard, as that just didn't sit right. I paid $73 of the bill for the pasta and dessert and had to eat about 90 minutes later, some place else, spending more money because I left still hungry and disappointed at the experience. I was really hoping for more. To the staff, thank you for your service. Management, please consider your portion sizing especially if you're charging $20 extra for the main course, I expect that to be the main course that fills me up for the night and also the time and place for disciplinary. I ended up spending over $100 for my food for the night, and the takeaway Italian was better for $30 than my $75 posh meal. That is underwhelming.

The food here is unbelievably good. We had the calamari, snapper and creme caramel. The desert is the best I have had. The food look good and tasted even better. Highly recommended if you want to try fine dining at its best.

Amazing food and incredible service

Food is consistently good here, especially the steak & seafood. The freshness & food presentation is spot on. Only criticisms are majority of wine options are over priced & service can be inconsistent as you don’t just get one server for the table.

I was expecting great things from Rockpool but left very disappointed. The food quality is in no way reflective of the price! I have truly had better pub meals. We were a table of 6, the steak was great to be fair, but so was the price, with no sides included. An extra $20 for each individual side (salad and chips). The restaurant was extremely loud, we couldn't hear each other talk so we just spoke to the person next to us the whole night, not as a group. The service was good and attentive, but we were also charged $11 per glass of still water. On top of the $1,060 bill we were charged $106 for service. I am always happy to pay for good food and dining, but I just don't believe the price is worth the visit to Rockpool.

Everything was great except food . Atmoshpere was nice and cozy . Service was nice and elegant but food is totally opposite . For this kind of pricing and cozy looking restaurant , taste of foods was awful . I ate most salty octopus and calamari of my whole life . Also we went here during our anniversary and big dissapointment on that date for us.

The service was very good, with very polite staff. The food we had was very average and unsatisfying. The best part about the meal was the complimentary cold bread and butter.

The service and atmosphere were great, but the main course (steak) was served cold. I probably won’t visit again.

Delicious food

We had an incredible time at Rockpool, and our experience was made even better thanks to our amazing waitress, Martina from Poland. She provided exceptional service and was incredibly knowledgeable about everything on the menu, guiding us through the options with ease. I was really impressed with her attention to detail and her ability to recommend dishes that perfectly suited our tastes. Martina truly elevated our dining experience, and we couldn’t have asked for better service. We’ll definitely be back!

Great food and location. One of the best steak restaurants I’ve been to in Melbourne that is still open. The only problem I have is we paid someone else’s bill but only realised the next day. We arrived fresh off the plane so not used to the currency conversion and not used to restaurants mixing up receipts. We should have checked closer rookie were from both . Paid double what we should have.
