Great local pub, great food, great wine, and beer, too!

As a local, I’ve visited a few times now, and its been the same issue - the young men behind the counter move so slowly, and act as if they really couldn’t care less about the patrons. The female staff are great - but those blokes give ‘my daddy is the boss so I don’t have to really try’ energy. Some people just aren’t suited for the job. Maybe I’m wrong, but that has been the vibe.

Great pub with quality meals. Super friendly staff who can make a great cocktail. Laid back atmosphere. Guiness on tap and an interesting collection of other tap beers to try. Excellent spirit selection and reasonable wines from which to choose. Screens for the sport but not invasive unless the AFL is on.

We went to The Steam Packet yesterday for my father in laws 80th birthday. There were 19 of us and I just wanted to say how fantastic the meals were. The calamari was so tender and so delicious. The hamburger,steak sandwich, Parma and Paella were all excellent. The chefs did a fantastic job, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The Shiraz gin spritz is also really good.

Has a good by the glass selection of wine for a local pub meals are reasonable also

Toilets Smell bad. Food was ok nothing special, ordered 2 entree and two mains using the QR, on entree and one main was served shortly followed by another entree & main, basically all food came out at the same time, server said sorry, but surely the kitchen knows the difference between entree and main. Staff were nice enough, but management, if there is any need to up their game. Will not be returning in a hurry.

Had the best Sunday Roast at the dteam packet today. Roast beef perfectly cooked vegetables crisp and perfectly cooked potatoes gravy .. I will be back 15 out of 10 Marie-Anne

This place is amazing!! We were served by Stefanie and she was incredible! I've never been treated so well! She was the nicest and the best bartender in the West! Will definitely recommend to family and friends, we'll be back just for her, she made our night.

Great old fashioned pub. Great menu. Not too expensive.

Dropped in to the pub because most local restaurants had closed their kitchen, but we just made it to Steam Packet by 5mins. There was live music, but it was incredibly noisy and crowded, and the band wasn't great. The food is a bit pricey but pub grub is usually generously sized and tasty. I ordered a beef & Guinness pie and it was literally a small pie with some over-salted veggies on the side.... for $26!! My dining companion had a burger that had a piece of chicken, small amount of coleslaw and waaaaaay too much sauce. And some fat fries. $24. The guy behind the bar was helpful. As soon as we'd eaten we left. I would never go back. Over-priced, low quality and not much going for it.

Good atmosphere

Takes forever to be served, both times I wanted to be served I had to get up out of my chair to be served and still had to wait for one of the two staff to serve me. At the end of lunch I asked for my partners food to be put into a take away box and they throw it out instead and said she misunderstood me. No other options offered other than sorry we threw out your food you paid for and still wanted and then all we were left with being able to do was leave. Not great service by the bar staff.

Excellent service, with staff being friendly and efficient. Food was delicious and arrived piping hot from the kitchen. I had fish strips with chips and salad and my son had a burger with thick bacon on it that he really enjoyed. Also, we started off with calamari that were tender and delicious. The barman poured a mean Guinness also. I'd definitely go again!

Perfect pub meal. They went out of their way to cater to our allergies on Saturday night. Excellent serving staff. Lovely minute steak sandwich cooked perfectly for my son and when I couldn't have the beef burger, due to ingredients in the patty, they cooked me a minute steak for mine with a different sauce to cater to my complex allergies. Highly recommended

Delicious food and reasonably priced. Great place for the family. Kids eat free on Tuesday with a great meal selection for the little ones.

Food was below par. This is the second time I have been that the food has been unedible. I had the risotto and it was over cooked and tasted like Clag! The time before I ordered I veggie burger and it was so oily I got sick from it at home. Probably a awesome place to have a drink but I wont be eating there again. I was offered a free dessert but declined the offer.

My partner and I went in to watch the AFL. I ordered a non alcoholic beer and a non alcoholic wine as my partner is pregnant. The bar man asked if I wanted red or white so I told him white if possible. After we finished I went back to the bar and asked him could I have another non alcoholic wine and a beer. He told me then they don’t have non alcoholic wine. Obviously this is not acceptable, he never asked me if I wanted a Sav, Prosecco, ect. He asked me if I wanted red or white. Surely if he was unsure he should have asked the question. Anyway I got another beer and a lemonade along with a poor apology. Food was lovely, places was quite lively. Good spot to watch the football

Food was lovely, and although we only had entrees the servings were a generous size. They also have specials on certain nights. The burger special looked great. We had chilli mussels and S&P calamari. Both were delicious. We sat at a nice little spot near one of the windows. All in all, a pleasant evening.

Breaky was delicious! The wait was longggg! There was a queue out the door which went quick enough, maybe 10 minutes but once we were seated, it took 65 minutes for our breaky to come. It was yum, but the staff were a little disgruntled which didn't help the wait times either. Pricey because you're ordering at least 2 drinks while you wait..

Popped in here last night for dinner. I got the roast beef special with roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshire pudding and gravy and we shared a portion of onion rings. We had to flag a waitress down after 15mins to order drinks and food. Drinks and food then came out pretty quickly, the waitress handed me my hot plate reaching over the table, I'm not sure why she didn't just take 5 seconds and pop around the other side and put it down but anyways... on to the food! The onions rings were good, nice and crunchy with a light batter. The roast beef special was a little bit on the stingy side. I have included photos. On the plate was a sprinkling of peas, one lump of roasted pumpkin/squash. 2 half roasted potatoes, 3 slivers of carrot and 2 pieces of basically raw and extremely hard broccoli. Of course, there was also the beef, which was actually a proper serve and it was very tender and tasty. I really enjoyed the gravy too, it was a bit watery but full of flavour. The issue here is, that looking at the ratio of meat to sides, I had all of the veg gone and still had half of the meat left. There simply wasn't enough veg and potatoes for this roast meal, it was far too stingy, I could count the amount of peas on the plate! Just counted them there - 23 peas with my roast dinner! 2 small half roast potatoes and no mash. I presumed it would come with mash because what self respecting restaurant doesn't serve mash with a roast dinner? But, to be honest, I'm really here to talk about the abomination on the plate they are apparently calling a Yorkshire pudding. Can't find it? I'll give you a clue - it's that small pale round thing next to the 2 roast potatoes. It was tiny, completely flat and tasted like a dry cracker. I'm hoping these were bought in frozen because if they were homemade, then there's a SERIOUS problem in the kitchen. It's not hard to whip them up, even I can make decent ones very easily and I'm no chef. If you're going to advertise that the roast dinner comes with a Yorkshire pudding, then there would damn better be an actual one on the plate! Otherwise, take it off the menu because this was an embarrassment. Hang your chef whites up in shame, chef. I wouldn't be proud to put my name to this plate of food. Won't be back.

Great place for a Guiness outside!

Great water service. Used to have a problem with this middle hair split brunette but apparently he has been fired. Current staff has definitely impressed me.

Good place to go with families

Tonight was our third meal at the steam packet , service was great .Good old pub atmosphere and the meals are the best , especially the beef and guiness pie 🥧 even the mashed potatoes were excellent, yum yum 😋

I had the Parma and changed from chips and salad to vegetables. Broccoli carrots and cauliflower no potato and was not informed that the price would increase $4 what a ripoff . Surely chips and salad would equate to a few vegetables. Lost us sorry 😢

Absolutely fabulous pub and the food is so good and great price, cannot recommend more. They also have some good bands that play on the weekend which I love. Great for kids too. Must Try.
