Great trivia nights.. and a great spot to sit and chat

We had the calamari, a Parma, the burger, and a beer paddle which were all delicious! Staff were super friendly and atmosphere was spot on. We’ll be back. Thanks for a great evening!

Used to have good food, now can't make fries. It's 12$ for fries which, while this sort of price has become standard, really does mean that if you don't know how to make them right, you shouldn't bother in the first place. All squishy and gross, home made in the oven from Aldi would be far preferable. Will not return,

Editing this review. I had previously said it was one of the best parmas in Melborune, however the last few times I've received chicken that is quite poor quality and chewy. Not sure if you've changed your supplier, but certainly doesn't seem like organic or free range chicken anymore.

Could be have vegan as well as Vege options. Beer and chips were my lot. Noisy atmosphere. Could do with some sound dampening. The wedges taste fishy. Probably fried in the same oil. Disappointing. Good service.

Had the chicken Caesar salad. Was absolutely delicious. Worth the value. Definitely will order it again. King of the castle. Double beef, Double cheese, onion rings and a side of chips..

Keep running out of food

Have come here on two seperate occasions and both have left me waiting for food for 45-60 minutes, the second time was a 65 minute wait for a Caesar salad. Would not recommend.

We ordered the fish and chips and a parma. The fish and chips were served in a small chip basket, on top of a wooden board lined with a serviette, along with salad and sauce in two separate bowls. The chips were placed down the bottom of the basket and fish on top, making it impossible to cut the fish. Putting the fish onto the board meant it would get stuck to the serviette. The chips seemed reheated and were stale and batter on the fish was thick and soggy, no crunch at all. I ordered a coke, which was light brown in colour and tasted off. The staff changed it over, apparently their post mix needed changing. The Parma was ok, apart from the chips. Out of everything we enjoyed the salad the most.

Might have been a bad day, but the food was mediocre... The buffalo wings were steamed or slow cooked and they had no buffalo sauce but instead drenched in barbecue sauce lol. Everything else was good.

We were a long way from home (Nth QLD) with a brother in the intensive care unit for a long time at the RMH. Rob & his staff made us so welcome & looked after us like family. The food was 10/10 & great service. Thankyou 🙏

Had lunch here with a group and everyone liked their meals. I had the special of the Jager Schnitzel and it was great. Will be back

Very friendly and polite service. I really appreciated the banter. Great to see a variety of Belgium beers on tap. Barra and veg hit the spot. Jager schnitzel was good, chips were a little under cooked though.

Great food

The Castle hosted a joint birthday party for me and a friend in their Wrecklyn function room. Their service was incredible and all the staff were incredibly helpful throughout the night. The function room provided was absolutely fantastic and suited our needs perfectly! Communication before, during, and after the event was also flawless and I could not recommend them enough.

I only ordered a Negroni the 26/08 around 5-5.30pm. Event though the Castle Hotel is a pub and not a cocktail bar, the bartender cared asking me how I like my, Negroni. Well done mate. Plus, it was good 👌

Food was really good, service was good. But was overall ruined due to two guys screaming in the middle of the room. This was at lunch

Good selection of Belgian beers. Two of the ones on the menu I was keen on were not available but they have Duvel so you can't really complain. Duvel is king. Staff were super friendly and warm.

There are many factors to consider when deciding whether or not a pub in Melbourne is worth your hard earned... Let's face it, times are tough for Melbournians and businesses across the board. For me? It's the simple things... 1) Food and Drinks 2) Price 3) Service and Atmosphere... And boy does The Castle Hotel deliver in spades! Firstly, top notch location. Not too deep into the city where traffic, parking and general chaos can cause problems. But on the slightly quieter end where the mix of locals and families create a great vibe. The food you ask? Absolutely delicious. Standard pub classics along with a few Greek inspired (some say Turkish invented 😁), dishes. The beers on tap are cold and plentiful. Every dish came out fresh and quick. Watched all the other tables also have the same experience. Will be back to try more items! The price was very reasonable for quality and portion size. The menu appears to be heavily curated to help their customers enjoy a night out, without taking out a third mortgage. The service was also on point! From the time we entered to the time we left, Toby was polite, engaging and super attentive. Already planning our next day out there.

Myself and my wife both ordered steak sandwich. The meat was juicy and the ingredients fresh. We both agreed they were the best we have had out along with a generous size serve of chips. Also worth mentioning well priced cocktails considering the location of the venue

Beer was very ordinary and when pointed out to the barman, refused to listen to feedback. Appalling service. Won’t be returning

Great spot for a nice Belgium beer. Not a huge selection but good regardless. Would have been nice to have the sound on for the footy on the projector.

Had a great reception at The Castle recently. Food was delicious, service was on point, and everything with the catering went smoothly. Definitely recommend it!

Great spot! Halloumi fries are excellent

Our waitress was absolutely outstanding. Friendly and never stop smiling and was always looking to make sure there wasn't anything else we needed. My steak sandwich was absolutely perfect.

Both times we have had a meal there they have been lovely. Home made Lasagne. The sauce on the parmigiana is delicious. And really a large parmy!!!!! Bangers and Mash also delicious. Think home made Sausages. Very nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great meal.

One of North Melbourne's better hotels great atmosphere and plenty of good food

Typical suburban pub located in North Melbourne. Stopped in for a quick drink, seems popular with locals. Has an outdoor drinking area which only overlooks the busy roundabout. Drop in if you’re in the area and feeling thirsty.

Won't be back here, the beer is not genuine or fresh. We were not expecting happy hour or anything resembling those prices, but $15 for a pint of non genuine (as in, brewed and/or bottled locally) beer is not ok when you advertise as being something else. The service is friendly. We went for the Belgium beers.....expensive and the friendly service is just not enough to bridge the quality gap. Total disappointment for me, didn't finish the beer and walked two blocks to the next pub. Edit: the owner responded, suggesting I had expectations beyond what was reasonable....it was not shopy hour, i didnt expect that...as advertised is totally reasonable to expect, check my other reviews, I'm not that human who is anything other than honest in sharing my view. Another minus 1 for this place.

Excellent selection of beer from all over the world and the service is one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Certainly a solid pub, nothing fancy. Food is solid, staff are helpful, but fairly standard pub fare.

A quick meal while waiting for our kitten to be sedated and xrayed for a hr and located around the corner from Port Smith Animal Hospital. Great service and friendly staff.

What fabulous people they are!! And the food is fantastic. The thoughtfulness they displayed to my son in hospital recently....well there are no words. If you want a generous size meal at a great price, this is the place to go

$16 for a schooner. I asked for their smallest serving, and they gave me 250ml, while charging me for a 330ml because that's the minimum they serve. Then THATS the minimum you should serve! Or charge me less if you're okay to bend the rules and serve lower than the minimum that YOU say you serve! And $15 for cauliflower bites with no salt in them.

Food and service were great. Only downside was we didn't have any salt and pepper on the table nor any knives and had to ask for both but aside from that, was a lovely lunch, thank you.

Ordered ravioli pasta and it was not cooked properly, tomato sauce was watery and flavourless. Sent it back and got same quality back. No staff came to check if meal was OK. Couldn't eat it, on leaving I mentioned the food was poor quality, the response from the older man (maybe manager) was 'the food is normally pretty good' 'it's just one of those nights'. Food quality was poor and staff seemed to have no interest in customer being satisfied with meal.
