About

Welcome to the German Club Tivoli, a cherished institution dedicated to preserving German cultural traditions, language, and social club life. Established as the Melbourne German Gymnastic Club (Melbourne Deutscher Turnverein), our club holds the distinction of being one of the first clubs founded in Melbourne. In 1921, we merged with Club Tivoli and became known as Club Tivoli-Deutscher Verein Melbourne. Over the years, we’ve moved locations several times, finally settling in 1989 at our current home at 291 Dandenong Road, Windsor.

Today, Club Tivoli proudly upholds the ideals established by our founders over 150 years ago. These ideals are symbolized by the four F’s in our club’s crest: Frisch, Fromm, Fröhlich, Frei (Bright, Upright, Cheerful, Freedom of living).

We Welcome You

Over the years, our club has become a second home for many — a place to connect with an extended family of familiar faces, share similar interests, and enjoy good times together. Whether you’re a long-time member or a first-time visitor, you’ll always feel at home here.

We Stand Together

We believe that together, we can achieve great things. Friendship helps us endure the tests of time and strengthens the bonds we share with one another. At Club Tivoli, we stand united in preserving our heritage and creating lasting memories.

We Eat!

What’s a gathering without food? The best social moments are often enjoyed over a delicious meal. At Club Tivoli, we serve authentic German comfort food to satisfy your cravings and bring joy to your dining experience.

Loved this place what a lovely feel it has to it. My good was great! We would definitely go again

Keep Lying, shows what type of people you are .... Many bad reviews on your different websites. It was more than $10 you nasty piece of work, your liars. And we had other people with us who can prove lift didn't work at a previous time, DEATH TRAP. Your staff are rude & as per other reviews on other sites of people saying the same thing. Definitely don't go to this place , Besides being a fire trap, last time we went lift didn't work & mum in a wheelchair as well as others couldn't get out. Don't give them your card details......

The place to go if you like German food in Melbourne. It’s pretty good. Quick and friendly service too. Just the location itself is a bit dated. But apart from that, definitely worth a visit.

EDIT: Pork is a winner!! I am culturally biased. Traditional meals. Authentic atmosphere. Function & Games rooms. Check 'Events' calendar for a good night! Oktoberfest now on!

Beautiful traditional venue, exemplary service, great atmosphere, awesome bar with proper Bier, massive meals; it's hard to go wrong!

Great experience! Great food! Friendly service and such a good atmosphere Highly recommend

Atmosphere was the only thing going for this place. Food, no idea. Waited 2 hrs and when asked where our food was, we were told they didn't have what we ordered. Not one person had attempted to let us know that we needed to order something else. It is not that we didn't ask where our food was for 2 hrs. We did. A few times. At the 2 hr mark we were told another 25 minutes. But they still did not have what we ordered. So I have no idea what they were going to serve us. Ended up asking for a refund.

This place suffers from understaffing. Why does Oktoberfest not have any German music?

Food is the best. The sausages I wanted too eat at least 10. They are so good. The Bee Sting desert was also amazing. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere feels homely and friendly. A must go restaurant.

Nice food and place!

Had an event hosted here last night and it was really good. The food was delicious and I felt super nostalgic for the time I was in Germany many years ago. This is a great place for German parties and they are well adept to catering for the German and Austrian community in Melbourne and I am not surprised why this is the case. Offering of alcohol is also really good. Overall, I had a great experience here and look forward to returning here sometime soon.

Not sure why some people are so negative towards the German Tivoli . Been there over half dozen with the latest visit on Friday the 4th with 5 people and can't fault quality of food, service and atmosphere. Obviously some clientele can’t handle having to order your own drinks and food at the bar. Who cares as long as the food and service is good which I can vouch is very efficient and friendly.

This place is advertised as open at 5pm, the door out front reads 5:30. We rocked up and waited 30mins for it to open and keen for a feed. Anyway the place was deserted and appears to be not serving anything. We walked out. Highly disappointed Yes we were standing at the automatic doors at 5pm, all closed and lights off. As I said the door reads 5:30, So we waited. At 5:40 walked in as doors opened. No one at reception, went upstairs, 2 people dancing and ignored us, not a soul to be found. Looked around and left.

Loved it here! We will definitely be back. Loved the servers and your receptionist we affectionately dubbed 'Oma' she came and gave the kids some chocolate which was so lovely of her. The piano accordion player was fantastic and played some wiggles for the kids.

What happened to the food here??? The snitzels which were once freshly fried, crispy and juicy are now reheated and limp… sausages served barely hot, and not grilled, and do you really serve reheated frozen veggies as part of your meals??? Come on!!!! Reminiscing all the great meals we had here over the years… NOT this time though….a waste of time and the hard earned money… 😢

Lovely place! Definitely German 🇩🇪!!! A bit hidden away, yet full of character and good food!

3 of us went to German Arms Tivoli last night. We rang to book - ok. We waited over an hr for first course, 3/4 for our coffee (for which we asked for a refund) and left. The streusel/ice cream were lovely. The table next to us waited 1.15hrs for their meal, which, when it came, was incorrect. We talked to the Manager and she said “we were trashed” and “could you book earlier next time” to which we responded, very politely “if you didn’t have staff, food or were fully booked why did you put our booking through, and 2ndky… politely we will NOT return. Piano accordion music was wonderful! To the owner: thank you for your reply. Firstly, we did book for three, we were told it would be in an adjacent rooms which was fine. We had rung other restaurants and were informed they were full… if we had been told you were full of course we would have gone elsewhere! We have always enjoyed The German Club…. We actually eat out much and enjoy good food and are trying our best to give as much support to the industry as we can.. so if you were unable to cope with the volume it would have been more appreciated if you said we’re were booked out… and we would have been thrilled for you. WE WERE NOT WALK-Ins… we would not ever do that to restaurants where music and fine dining is offered.

Service mediocre and staff not helpful. Not recommended!

Mixed feelings about this place. The club is a club. Has that old school club feel. A few function rooms I can see for dancing and events etc. the main room as staff but they aren’t serving. You need to go to the counter to serve yourself. No personalisation as I assumed it would be. I know what good ole fashion German/Austrian hospitality is like so I’m a little surprised the place doesn’t ooze it? Schnitzel is super tasty. Will go back for the schnitz for sure. Not many other things I would’ve chosen from the menu.

Went for the Melbourne Salsa event on Thursday. Awesome atmosphere, great staff and good selection of beers!

Basically the response from management is that I’m a liar!!!!…I know what I saw…don’t insinuate that I don’t, you obviously didnt check your cameras…..because he was picking his nose and thats a fact Mmmm….Ive been here a couple of times, meals are big but this last time wasn’t great. Pub meal comes to mind with a German selection of beer that you can get at the castle in North Melbourne. Ordered the schnitzel etc as always and finishing our meals and drinks to look over at the bar and theres a staff member ( waiter/bar attendant having his dinner….brown haired person with unshaven face, to see him touching his nose with his thumb and picking out what ever was in there, not just in one nostril but the other as well…..my instant reaction was…”Oh no, then my daughter says…what? I tell her and clearly state that it will be the last time I come here after witnessing that….. The staff are lovely..some of them…..but to see that just put me off for life…..and having been a second time the hype was clearly gone after the nostalgia of first time attending. The food is average and on the higher side for what it is, but you can get this elsewhere throughout Melbourne.

One of the best places to dine in. Always enjoy the accordian music on Fridays.

Great place for dinner, drinks and catch ups with friends. Authentic friendly vibe and great food.

You're in for a good time! Fun atmosphere and you won't go home hungry! I was there last night and the service and foood were great. The management are also super sweet. Have fun everyone!

Great place- with good German style food… Pork knuckle to die for!!

The German Club is absolutely amazing. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the music, just take you back to Deutschland. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Thank you so much Dieter and Tanya for the hospitality!!

I Love the raspberry lemonade !!!! 🇰🇵

Cosy atmosphere, great bar and restaurant.

Come for the brezel, stay for the schnitzel. A1+

We ordered Chef Special, the rosemary lamb, it was a cheap cut mostly bone and fatty sinews they forgot the bread , the chicken schnitzel was like a flying saucer very dry , the menu didn’t say that a salad was with the main, the leberkasse was probably the best with an egg on top . The meals are huge. I had the Berliner Bratkartoffel a very good entree. Then the green salad came out, no salt or pepper and the supposed vinaigrette dressing was a quality I’ve never had before. It tasted like lemon and with the witloffit too was bitter…. Value for money 2 stars. Go hungry to eat here. The waiters some couldn’t speak English very well. The chef is Greek….. lol. At a German club!!!!! Not in too much of a hurry to return . The menu at the end of this review doesn’t have the right menu as in the club. The vinaigrette dressing could be used to wipe off the sticky film on the table s. The salad is chopped witlof no onions no nothing and it’s $10. Yuk

It’s really for the amazing atmosphere and the great German beer on tap . The food is great -parking is good

We went here to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Still really good 👍

Great little spot. Dinner was great

Great atmosphere and nice people

Man gibt uns einen Tisch bringt die Karte und nach der Bestellung kommt ein Kellner und erklärt, dass die Küche geschlossen sei. Unglaublich

Being local, we’d gone past the Tivoli Club for years. After a recent trip to Germany, we decided to book a table for our 14 y o birthday dinner and were very impressed. Fantastic food, friendly staff, a great atmosphere with traditional German music. The Bierhalle kitsch was done to just the right amount - this is not a gimmicky place: lots of local German people here on a Friday night. We’ll definitely be back - great for families.

Great atmosphere, a true German Diam in the heart of Melbourne.Great Oktoberfest.

I go there on Thursdays to dance salsa. I know, it's not German slap dancing. Not even close. Still, a pint of German beer 🍺 from the tap comes in handy. The activity is run by Melbourne Salsa: two hours for classes, from beginners to advanced, followed by social dancing. Highly recommended for all ages. I call myself a geriatric salsero. 🕺👴

Having just returned from 3 weeks in Europe, based in Frankfurt, this was such fun.

Dancing was fun!

Been coming here for 25 years. Good atmosphere and food.

Good food, very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Customer service poor, didn't get what we paid for, gluten free left out. One person didn't get dessert.

Have visited Tivoli 3 times now with my wife and friend. Love the authentic vibes inside. Soaking up the awesome music played by Richard on the accordion. Portions are massive and prices are decent. It’s a little far from other places but worth the visit if you wanna bring friends and family.

the oldest German club and has good German food, Bier, and snaps

Decent Bistro fair in a lively venue. Slow table service only downward. Very good selection of German beers on tap

We were here for a memorial service and the German beer and finger food was an added treat to a beautiful service

Enjoyed the authentic German atmosphere and friendly staff. The meals were great and reasonably priced. We all left with full bellies. Recommend booking ahead to get into the restaurant rather than beer hall. Some of the decor looks like it needs a little refreshing but would come back.

Easy car parking. Entry into kitch foyer underwhelming. The main dining room looked cosy...we were seated in beer hall which was dated and empty. Live music filtering through bar a nice touch. Prompt service. Menu options are pretty much meat and carbs. Our meals were tasty and fresh.

Hidden gem ! Great food and atmosphere make sure you book !

Amazing place to go!! Felt like in Germany!!

Has a recently improved menu. Service was very lovely and they can accommodate larger groups. The atmosphere is a relaxed German setting. Looks better inside than from the outside! Give it a try!

Como sou vegetariana não foi 5 estrelas para mim, pois eles não tem muitas opções vegetarianas. Mas o espaço é ótimo, e a cerveja maravilhosa !

Delicious, authentic German food. The platter is the best way to go!

Great place, to enjoy in group. Perfect for friends and family. I went to get my takeaway, nicely packed, big serves.

Great food.. poor table service..

The salsa night is a craker of a night... great vibe and atmosphere.

Reasonable prices for generous portions of tasty, authentic, German food and beverages.

Bloody excellent

The most epic pork knuckle is a must have

Beautiful memories 💞

👍🏻

Edit (Jan 2023) We called Tanya, and she apologised and provided us with a voucher for two pork knuckles. Will provide an updated review once we have gone back and tried the pork knuckle. -------- They never delivered the pork knuckle we pre-ordered, and then served us raw chicken. Let me elaborate. Our group booked and pre-ordered two pork knuckles. We received email confirmation two days before, and staff member Tanya gave us a phone call the day before to confirm our order. On the day, we were told there was a miscommunication and there was no pork knuckle because it was Greek night. They said even though we had pre-ordered and received email AND phone confirmation, there was no way we'd get our pork knuckle and to order off the Greek menu. We explained it had taken us a couple of months to schedule this dinner (shift work and unforseen health complications had gotten in the way) and we'd been looking forward to trying the pork knuckle. The staff just apologised and told us to order off the Greek menu. This was disappointing but understandable, until the table next to us received a pork knuckle and a sausage platter (both of which were supposedly unavailable). When we asked the staff, they avoided our questions and just told us to order from the Greek menu. At this point we should have left, but we were hungry and decided to stay. We ordered lamb and chicken dishes, and to top off the night, the chicken came out raw on the inside (photo evidence provided). When you're paying ~$50 a person, the disappointment and hassle wasn't worth it. The staff and owner didn't seem to care at all, the staff just brushed off our questions and the owner seemed to avoid us. We'll be looking for another place to enjoy some pork knuckle.

salsa every thursday...free

Great German food and beer

Call a day ahead and order the the pork knucle

Awesome atmosphere
