History
The Region of ‘Friuli-Venezia Giulia’ is situated along the alpine ridge in the extreme northeast of Italy, with borders to the north with Austria, to the east with Slovenia, to the west with the Italian Veneto region and to the south with the Adriatic Sea. It has ‘mari e monti’ (from the Sea to the Mountains). Its people have had to struggle with many conquerors and a land often impoverished and inhospitable. From the Celts in Carnia to the Romans who established Aquileia, the Longobards, the Huns, through to the more ‘recent’ period of Napoleon and then the domination by the Austro-Hungarians. The language “Friulano” has within it a vast range of dialects, many reflecting its strategic position and the connections with the Celtic, Longobard, Germanic, Slav, Venetian and Tuscan past. Today, Friuli is a flourishing Region; industries have grown making the most of its ideal and almost central location on the European continent. It is well known for its chairs, white goods, ceramics, mosaics, wines, cheeses and prosciutto.
The Fogolar Furlan
Founded in 1957, the original location on Mansfield Street in Thornbury was built by Members, for Members, a place where fellow countrymen could come and feel at home, further cementing the spirit of the Fogolar. Since our relocation in March 1985, we have continued to provide the community, members, families and friends with a warm and inviting social setting. Many generations have been an integral part of continuing the traditions of the Furlan, Balleto, Bocce, Soccer and Friuli Day Sagre; all of which have been signatures of the Club over the years. The Furlan Club has continued to change and evolve for the generations to come. Providing evenings such as our family friendly Bistro, weekly Members night, our newest addition The Thorn 3071, monthly Rock & Roll dances, Pensioner Lunches, Bottomless Gnocchi nights and Nonna & Mum’s cooking class.

Excellent food.
Huge dance floor great music
Just a warning to trades people working for this company….
Good food. Julie our waitress was amazing 👏
Last night saw these three guys, awesome comedians my trio mates at the Furlan Club #thornbury. Tahir Bilgic, George Kapiniaris and Gabriel Rossi thank you guys, you made my day 😊😂🤝👌
Great club/venue. Very helpful staff
I was there for a club function meeting people I hadn't seen for over 40 years! The audio was at times less that great with feedback until the mike was moved away from the speaker. The meal service was good, but given that there were over 140 people at the function, it was hard to get everyone served before the first served meals had cooled. This was now of an issue for those with special dietary requirements, as they were often served before everyone else. The function as a whole was great and the venue quote suitable.
Great floor for dancing. Tables and placingfor seating v good. Staff pleasant and supportive.
Best food I have ever purchased.
Excellent staff, food entertainment and facilities! Highly recommended.
Polenta &Quails pretty good well done staff great service and yummy
Food was amazing!
Great dance floor and venue. Friendly service
Great food and service
Good variety of food and drinks here. Pokies room and event space. I had a great night at an event organised externally, but had to wait a long time for drinks along with everyone else as they seemed to be very understaffed and happy to take all the time in the world despite long queues.
We were there in a group to watch a cover show with lots of cover songs by the dancers & singers. Unfortunately, the sound operator let the singers down. Reverberation through the speakers & the music drowned out the singers for whole of the show. For all the effort & time that goes into a show like this, it needs an experienced sound operator. Disappointed.
Had a great night and nice food.
Great food and friendly staff
Great atmosphere! Friendly staff and amazing pizzas! Hidden gem in the back streets of Thornbury.
The library room was very nice
The Gnocchi was awesome, as its home made not common at a restaurant but the Furlan club very common. We actually thought it closed 2 years ago with all the planned redevelopment. I only found out thru a friend that it is still operating. Might need to look at marketing.
Extremely poor service, had to ask someone to take our order. Food took an hour and 15 minutes to come out. All average. We got offered desserts while still eating. Plates never got cleared. Won’t be back.
Great venue, provided great music Rockin' Daddys that evening & has big dance floor. Food is well portioned & great.
For the last 5 years l and my family thought that this place was closed . 😳.. to our surprise this was not the case .. it’s not fancy ( never was) , but the food and the service are second to none. With great traditional Italian food is at its core and a good selection of wines at a great prices , it’s hard to say no to this place . Also did I mention that the restaurant is Great for families, with a will placed kids room to keep those little ones occupied.. I will definitely be back 👍
Great place for entertain always a band and dancing n Sundays has buffet n entertainment
Unfortunately having had lunch at this club today and the Pensioners lunch last week,it has taken away any enthusiasm or motivation to come back and also to be aware of other Italian clubs. The food was average expensive and very little quantity, the moscato was a cheap moscato and it was a sparkling. Next year I will definitively celebrate it at Home. All these places deserve to close down rather than continue like this. The Salvation Army gave food in Collinwood to the less fortunate and the Meals were more substantial compared to what I paid. Maybe next year I will give the Salvos the money and have a better meal.
It's a lovely place. Super staff, so friendly and easy to get along with. The pokies is also a really nice unexpected treat here. It's hit and miss with the food, anything with cheese, look out! Anything with chicken, it'll probably be over cooked. Sauces are really nice and a good selection of drinks
Pizza chef didn't show up so they had no pizzas available. Dissapointed. Got the parma instead and it was small and had little sauce. Had to wait almost an hour for food unfortunately :(
Came here a few weeks ago for the seniors luncheon, with my mum. It was a joke to serve a bowl of gnocci to share and pizza, was so bad and tasteless. The sweet was a small piece of Panettone. Then returned for Christmas lunch, another let down. The serves were so small, and seafood overcooked, couldn't even chew the mussles, rubbery taste. The prawns were 3 shrimps, was still hungry and cost $38. The Porchetta, only 2 small slices and few veggies and cha grilled peppers couldnt even find for $34. How can you serve such small meals for the price. Then finally a 15% surcharge added on due to public holiday, even though we paid cash. We were not told about it when we booked or prior to ordering. No Christmas feel or atmosphere. And also driving over an hour to get there, sorry, won't be returning.
Never ever have I waited 2 hours for my meal of one pizza. I have given them one star for the waiters who kept apologising . In the end we walked out without eating as our order never came😡
Went for school event . Such a fantastic complex.
Here every month for bottomless gnocchi. The best gnocchi I've had! Would highly recommend!👌
Good service and food
Great pizza
Very old ran down, looks dirty and in an industrial area, the pokies still give you coins for pay outs like it's in the 2000's , pizza is the best thing about it
Great food, will be back .5 stars
Went for quail and polenta night. Never been there before. Located in an industrial area. Has pokies and a bar plus dining room. Plenty of people turned up for the $45 quail and polenta meal. Served a pizza bread first. Followed by the quail. Dessert was tiramisu. Overall, very nice food, home / Cucina style. Good place to take a group when there is a special on
Good food and coffee...popular ballroom dance venue.
Great place..nice restaurant..great facilities
Love the place. 😊🍾
Friendly and helpful staff
Great food
Good night out
Great place to dance and to have meal.
Good service great food and friendly staff
Good food n nice atmosphere
Suited for gatherings of up to 200, large dance floor and stage. Food of a high standard.
Felt bad when I heard this place was closing. Now I’m fuming it’s reopened again! Want to thank you for the very loud music until 3am. There’s nothing like 3 hours of sleep to get you through another day. Fingers crossed there are more lockdowns.
Nothing special bu OK
Good Rock n Roll venue
Very good friendly service. To be fair, i was a friend's guest and in a hurry, just got to entree stage with a delicious and authentic Caesar Salad.I had heard good reports and will be back for the full regalia.
I have used this club many times, they never let me down
Furlan club was brilliant. They provided excellent service with coffee's sweets etc. They showed the euro final Italy vs England no entrance fee required. They were very hospitable and came around to our table to check that everything was okay. I have no hesitation in giving them 5 stars.
Clean venue. Great pizza.
The food was excellent as was the service!
This place is like a home away from home. Restarted recently as The Thorn 3071...things are looking up for the hard work put in getting back up and running
We came here tonight to dine in the bistro after hearing rumors that the Furlan had closed down. Totally incorrect. It was open and running. Beautiful atmosphere, not overly crowded, excellent friendly staff especially Natalie who looked after our needs. The food menu was a simplified version of the previous, but still had a great selection without over complicating or confusing you. Great value for money . Highly recommended place for somewhere local and not a pretentious snobby resturaunt. Good work staff. Keep it up.👍👍🥂.
Had an enjoyable time, The meal was delicious and the service was very friendly and welcoming. It has a lovely atmosphere and our server was Natalie who was lovely, would definitely recommend the Furlan Club Bistro to all.
Beautiful pasta. Free serving of bread. Nice calamari.
Excellent service the staff were so incredibly friendly, and the food was great. Had a really good time :)
Nice place
Nice smorgasbord great entertainment...
Quiet dining. Nice ambience .Excellent service. Average menu.Moderate prices. Ballroom dancing every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Freestyle dancing every Sunday.Bistro meal included. Bar and gaming room. Easy off street parking. Overall a little disappointing. 3 stars .
The food was so ridiculously average. I'm sorry to say but how can they call themselves an Italian restaurant when they serve up the sort of plates that my family and I were exposed to? Wood fired pizza? Please, it was an atrocious attempt that left me leaving 7/8 slices on the plate. Disappointed to say the least
Buono per la musica e il ballo. Meno per il cibo.
Great place to dance and eat
Had a company Christmas event here. The activities, which include archery Warz and soccer darts was enjoyable. The food however was just average, would not recommend. One of our colleagues could not consume pasta and breads, we asked the staff if there were other food options but they mentioned the kitchen was closed and could not serve anymore, so my colleague had to go with an empty stomach.
