Explore Lenna of Hobart

Fantastic View
A luxurious mansion. A waterside window into Hobart’s past. Lenna of Hobart is not just a place to rest your head. It’s an experience. Open the door to this 1874-built sandstone mansion and connect with Hobart Town’s story. This landmark hotel puts you right on the historic doorstep of Hobart’s vibrant waterfront. Salamanca Place, home to Australia’s largest outdoor market and fine eateries, is just a few hundred metres away. A short walk leads to the CBD, Mona ferry terminal, and waterfront precinct.

About 100 years after the mansion was built, a new accommodation wing opened, bringing a new level of luxury to Lenna of Hobart. Today, rooms with harbour, mountain, and park views blend with the same elegance and level of service the hotel is renowned for. In any room, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi, and modern comforts come standard. Want to really treat yourself? Stay in a penthouse with 360-degree sweeping rooftop views.

In Tasmania without a car? You could spend a whole weekend exploring from Lenna of Hobart by foot. Historic Battery Point brims with charming cafes, antique sellers, and florists. Kelly’s Steps lead down to the art galleries, cafes, and chic bars of Salamanca Place. Hop aboard the ferry to Mona or settle in for a waterfront dinner on Hobart’s floating pier. Further afield, the Coal Valley vineyards, winding bends of the Channel, and convict tales of the Tasman Peninsula are just a short drive away.

Stay at Lenna of Hobart, and we’ll invite you into a story beginning in the 1860s, when foundations were laid from local sandstone cut from Princes Park next door. Each handmade brick holds a piece of the past. Each room has a story to tell, wrapped in National Trust-classified walls. Hear whispers of grand parties beneath chandeliers still present, and climb the turret where former owner Alexander McGregor kept vigilant watch for his returning ships. The restored mansion is listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register as a superb example of early colonial architecture.

Staying at Lenna of Hobart is about a rich experience in our capital. Take home your own snippet of Hobart’s early maritime history. Let traditional elegance blend effortlessly with modern comforts. Then step outside knowing you’re in a location as enviable in the 1800s as it is today.

1st & foremost, we love the position of this old, historical hotel. It is up a slight hill to the reception area. Stayed across the road this time in a fully self contained unit style room. Parking at the door, washing machine/dryer combo did not stop as we had been travelling from Launceston & loved the space the unit allowed us to cook in the kitchen, relax with a little space & walk down to the markets & the city from this awesome location. Staff were friendly & informative. Will make this our go to when staying in Hobart. Well worth booking. Only fault I could think of, is our unit was on the roadside & being 1st floor there was a little noise from people walking & chatting as they walked by.

Stayed at Lenna of Hobart for an overnight business trip. Room was clean, staff were friendly and the hotel is in a great location. I was only at the hotel to sleep as I was out exploring and working the rest of the time but defiantly happy with my stay. The views from my room window were fantastic day & night. It was really cool to see the huge cruise ship pull up early in the morning. I was able to easily connect my tv to my mobile to watch whatever I wanted, rooms were quiet during the times I was there and elevator access was convenient when carrying luggage.

We have always wanted to stay at the Lenna, from check in to check out it was great. It was a posituve experience from start to finish. The location is perfect at the southern end of Salamanca. The carpark is perfect for travellers, very safe and private. Huge thanks to George, King of the Lenna Jungle for for looking after us and it was great!!!

Great location, only a few minutes away from Salamanca market and Harbour. Room was quiet, spacious and clean. Great bathroom amenities. Would definitely come again.

We recently stayed at Lenna & unfortunately I had my wallet stolen from our hotel room! While the hotel staff were concerned & offered to investigate, I am still very disappointed with the outcome. Of course, I am to blame for leaving my wallet in our room while we stepped out for breakfast but I thought up-market hotel; we will only be gone for a couple of hours!" I was however taken aback when the hotel manager informed me that "there was no evidence that the wallet had been in the hotel room AND that he had no reason to doubt his staff!" I'm sorry but the only people entering our room were hotel staff so I think he does need to DOUBT his staff! It has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth!"

This mansion is lovely. The hotel is a little odd to navigate but it was part of the adventure. The reception staff were very chatty and helpful wherever they could be. Late checkout and they allowed continued use of the carpark for the remainder of the checkout day. Great location, right next to where Salamanca markets is stood up on Saturdays. Not many facilities but we knew that when we book. Thank you 😊

This hotel is just a short walk down to cafes, restaurants, the museum, art galleries and the waterfront. Walk up a few minutes and you find the cutest little homes at Arthur's Circus, very quaint. The whole area is so interesting and beautiful. |We stayed for a couple of days and loved it, our room looked over the park and breakfasts were totally delicious. The room was spotless and bed very comfortable. My only minor negative would be, I would have like a firmer pillow. Overall top notch.

살라망가 마켓이랑 가까운데 조용합니다. 위치도 좋고 주차도 편하고, 객실은 낡았지만 추천합니다.

The hotel was tired , dirty and uncared for. The photos showed an opulent facility but the photos were misleading. Our room was dirty , dust in the bathroom and a leaking oil residue coming from the bathroom fan. Very disappointing experience over all.

**An Oasis of Warmth and Charm** It is a rare thing indeed to arrive at a hotel and feel, almost immediately, as though you have found a sanctuary. Lenna, in the heart of Hobart, is just that—a harmonious blend of history, elegance, and warmth that lingers long after checkout. The building, a lovingly preserved 19th-century gem, exudes bygone sophistication. Its inviting common areas encourage quiet reflection or engaging conversation, while the lookout offers sweeping city views that captivate the eye. Still, it was not the architecture or the views alone that defined my stay. The soul of Lenna resides in its staff, particularly the lady at reception, whose warmth and local knowledge transformed Christmas Day, typically hushed, into something memorable. With most places shuttered, she directed me to hidden gems—scenic walks and cultural treasures—that elevated my entire visit. Her care and enthusiasm made hospitality feel like an art form. The rooms, like the building itself, balance function and charm. Spacious, well-kept, and thoughtfully outfitted, they offer restful nights in a setting of understated elegance. Lenna is more than a hotel; it is an experience, a haven where thoughtful service, architectural beauty, and a deep sense of place converge.

Excellent location. Rooms clean and serviced when we were out, nice check in team. Laundry room handy, has washer and dryer. $4 each machine.

This was overall a bad experience. We were at this hotel for Christmas holiday and it was awful to see the cleaners not cleaning our rooms properly, the bathroom was disgusting, they chucked our clothes on the floor, instead of placing them On the bed, they just didn’t care about the belongings. Also, even worse, the cleaners stole $2000 from my family members room, on the 4th level, that was messed up, even worse, we told the receptionist, they didn’t care and just put a smile on their face, like it was not a big deal. This place really needs to get their head in together and realise what they have done. Because this is unacceptable. Never going back to this place again, because it just was terrible how they treated us.

Good location

This was our second time staying here due to the location and quality of rooms. |Also being self contained with all cooking facilities a big bonus. |Was also a pleasant surprise having a washing machine and dryer. Very handy as this was the last leg of a 2 week holiday. |Found the rooms large and clean. |Also the staff very friendly and accommodating. |Shower was excellent also. |Only improvement would be the outdated balcony. But this is very minor.

Great location with easy walk to Salamanca. Heritage style building that is well maintained. Would definitely stay again. Only issue was air conditioner makes noise at night even when it’s switched off.

I first booked 2 nights in this hotel one month ago.I feel very good hotel and decision stay another night.Huge room with 1 king and 1 single bed.Old building is luxuries.Very good location .Highly recommend to my friends

What a magical place to stay! We bought live abalone earlier in the day and asked the hotel staff for a BBQ to be placed on the balcony befpre we checked in. We wanted to cook it outside and didn't want to stink out the suite. The staff went out of their way to find a Weber and gas bottle. The kitchen in the suite has everything you need to prepare a meal and we enjoyed abalone on the balcony of the penthouse suite with marvellous views of the Wharf, bridge and beyond. What an experience! The hotel is located in the best spot with mountain and river views. Breathtakingly beautiful. And if you are a fan of Appelles Apothecary & Lab products, then you're in for a treat. Bath fizz bombs, shampoo and the likes for you to indulge in when having a spa bath or shower. The view from every bedroom is incredible and one really feels like you're on top of the world in this location. Highly recommend

Very beautiful building and excellent services. Friendly staff.

The 2 bedroom 2 bathroom Lenna apartments are so spacious. Location is superb right at the of Salamanca place. Comfortable bed and linen. Will be back.

A decadent stay. History to know is wild. Gregory's empire shows till this day..especially from his high place!! Ships are still cool.

Stunning harbour view, very comfortable and great location to restaurants and street walks.

Stayed for four nights in August in a very large and comfortable room on the fifth floor with a great view of the park and the Derwent River.||Our room was in the main accommodation building which could be conveniently accessed by the lift from the free car park. We could also access the main building where reception, the bar, lounge and dining areas were via the covered walkway between the two buildings. ||All of the rooms on our floor had their doorways fronting a central atrium that was open to the elements at one end.||Our room was similarly furnished to the one we had on the third floor on our last visit. I had a king sized bed (very comfortable) with bedside tables and reading lamps either side. There was also a two seater lounge, coffee table, small round dining table with two chairs, a long cabinet with a flat screen TV mounted on it that also housed the minibar, glasses, Nespresso machine, kettle etc and a wardrobe. The luggage rack was also large enough to hold two suitcases.||The bathroom had a reasonably sized vanity basin and a walk-in shower (good pressure). There was no soap or shampoo holder (although you could balance them on the narrow window sill that faced out to the atrium).||Both the room and the bathroom were very clean and serviced daily.||WIFI was included and worked well.||Hotel is very well located to both Battery Point and Salamanca Place with a short uphill walk to the former and downhill to the latter.||The Hotel's lounge is very comfortable and the wines were a very reasonable price. |Staff on reception were very helpful and friendly.||Our new favourite accommodation in Hobart.

A very quaint hotel that used to be a historic private home. Check out the amazing view from the tower, and the old style bar. The rooms are in a newer attached building, with nice modern rooms. There is parking, with a lift from the carpark into the building with the rooms. The location is also great, a short walk to the Salamanca markets.

We stayed here in the middle of winter. Location was perfect with our 18 month old to walk everywhere. Our flight was 7pm at night and we asked to pay for late check out so our child could rest and they offered it to us free of charge. Not saying this is standard but it helped us immensely on our child's first plane trip! 100% recommended! The staff were amazing!

This is the second time staying at the Lenna Of Hobart and both times have been consistently fantastic. We stayed in a Harbour View room - the room was clean and in overall good condition. The hotel was quiet and very well positioned to Salamanca Place and the key attractions around the waterfront area. We used a hire car for our trip and parking is complimentary and onsite. I recommend heading to the bar in the evening for a drink it is opulent and very relaxing. As expected a great stay and we will return again for our next trip to Hobart.

Hotel in an old building built in the 1800s. Rooms are large, and some have harbour facing views. Good central location to Salamnca markets and shops. Hotel has a parking lot on its premise as well, which helps as you'll need a car to get around.

From our very first phone call to book, up until our checkout, we have been very satisfied the entire experience. Our four night stay in this hotel could not have been better. We stayed on the fourth floor with a spacious room that had a great view across the harbour. Big king size comfortable bed, air conditioner/ heater that was effective, big TV if you wanted watch, heated bathroom flooring! (One of the best things ever) - soft touch toilet seating, decent shower with good water pressure, basically all the trimmings of a fantastic hotel room. - The desk staff were always friendly, helpful and courteous, as were the cleaning stuff - who did a fabulous job of cleaning our room in between days and were very friendly as well. - This is an old and famous hotel, but the old part seems to be mainly used for functions, is the newer building has the hotel rooms which are all modern. - The location is particularly fantastic because you can walk around the city and go back and forth to rest, refresh and rejuvenate - It's a 2-minute walk from Salamanca place. Battery point 3 minutes up the road with all of the old English colonial houses, and groovy cafe started around. Even if the price is a little premium, when you weigh up the quality location and experience - it's really a fantastic choice!. - Hamish John Appleby // APPLEBY PHOTOGRAPHY

Staying at Lenna is an experience. Not only do you get to revisit history, the opulence of the historical era, you also get to enjoy the subtle luxuries such as fluffy pillows and comfortable bed with everything in between. It is quite close to Salamanca markets which is quite handy and no doubt we will be back!

Beautiful old building

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at Lenna of Hobart. It was my first time in the hotel and I must say, it exceeded expectations. The location is fantastic, right on the doorstep of the bustling Salamanca Markets. The room was beautifully appointed with a lovely little balcony, perfect for a morning coffee. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel also has the added bonus of ample parking, which is always a plus

Good location so close to the salamaca market and close to lots of good pubs.

This is our third time staying here. It has an excellent location and is very close to Salamanca etc. We had a great room with a lovely view of the bay, The service was friendly and polite. It was quiet. We will definitely come again on our next trip to Hobart.

Beautiful spot, loverly rooms and atmosphere

A stunning hotel. Very clean and resonably priced with great service. The bed was super comfortable - the best sleep I've had in a long time. It was great to read about the history of the building in the booklet provided in the room. Excellent location near the salamanca markets. Parking provided for our rental car which was another big plus. We will be staying here again next time we're in Hobart.

Loved it. Great views over the harbour, and, they have their own distillery!!

Cannot beat this establishment, great people from top to bottom.

really liked the general vibe of this hotel, incorporating the old mansion with a modern wing, quite affordable, friendly staff, 2 minutes walk from the Salamanca area which looks like a bit of a tourist trap but isn't really, and right in the hip central location of Battery Point, we really felt comfortable there and wouldn't stay anywhere else if we went back to Hobart, and the rooms are really well-insulated so you don't have to have the aircon on all night to stay warm, because that can get stuffy, as we found when we stayed at another icebox elsewhere on the island...we loved it

Great place to stay. Would recommend 👌

I came to Hobart on a whim and wasn't sure where to stay. Luckily, I ended up here. There is nothing negative to say. Only positive. ||The hotels location made it easy to get around and explore Hobart. It also put in walking distance to this year's Winter Feast. The staff was friendly and was happy to direct me to their favorite food places and give me what they would do in place like Bruni Island. Their kindness and information were invaluable to my enjoyment of Tasmania.||The room was clean and quiet and cozy. And the Hot Toddy was one of the best I've ever had. That is not something I thought would be a requirement in hotels for me but it definitely is now.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming. Just a short stroll to Salamanca and great parking onsite. The building is magnificent. Breakfast on the terrace ...just do it!

No in room breakfast

Great staff, a great location and a beautiful and spacious apartment. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed.

Really nice hotel, room is great but the shower is weird, it’s like they decided that saving $200 per room by just half building the shower was a good idea…

My thanks for consistently friendly and proficient attention from all staff. Lovely spot.

My beautiful sister always finds a room that's everything we like . Brother and sister can be uncomfortable in hotels . This wasn't the case at Lena anexxe building that has been designed and built to highlight the epic stone Lena original . These rooms aren't for the servants 😁 spacious . Furniture is perfect for a generous sized room .we were on 3rd level .overlooking a stunning park and Derwent river . Upgrade maybe .but it was quiet . Windows opened for fresh air. Bathroom great .water pressure in double shower 🚿 was excellent . Staff were local and friendly and helpful can do attitude . Staff at reception .were very happy .and know there boundaries . Smile and the cream job behind the reception .efficient and relaxed . Complimentary parking .secure which is a bonus . Walking distance to everywhere you need to discover and enjoy . Perfect sleeping in single beds that was organised by staff late afternoon ,before they headed home . Extremely surprised and delighted .private company structured hotels really outshine the mundane group hotels . Too much info .but they know that service with genuine interest and support wins a customer every time . Thank you .

The Lena has been fabulous for years .the room my sis and I shared was beautiful .views over park and river Derwent . Staff impeccable .friendly and happy 😊😁 thank you

All staff were excellent and very accommodating, location brilliant, there is a steep hill to get back to the hotel after a long day out, but good exercise, sadly that’s where the good points end, the bed was beyond disgusting, it sagged on the edge so would appear has never been turned, there was a sharp ridge in the middle (obviously 2 singles pushed together with no mattress topper) but REALLY badly stained with urine and not cleaned, the ONLY reason I looked was to confirm how saggy the mattress was as my back was so sore, wish I hadn’t cause I can’t unsee now!

We always stay here and happy to do so

Perfect location, nice rooms, beautiful building. Great value overall.

Very clean and so beautiful. 24/7 help desk. Room was big, bed was comfortable. Several power points and multiple mirrors. And very reasonably priced. Best place so far in our whole Tassie trip. So much character, photos don’t do it justice! Would 100% book again.

Fabulous stay! We chose to stay at Lenna for our last-minute trip to Tasmania as some friends highly recommended it and we were not disappointed! The main house is absolutely stunning! Great customer service and facilities. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It had everything needed for a long weekend and the daily replenishment of essentials (tea/coffee/sugar) was a bonus. The location is ideal, nested at the top of the Salamanca area, we enjoyed the free parking at the hotel and walked pretty much everywhere! Highly recommended for a romantic and calm getaway. Enjoy a glass of wine in the garden or one of their delicious gin in the historical lounge!

Outstanding hotel. Loved staying here.

We thought we were booking a beautiful old hotel, there is a new building right next to this hotel which houses the accommodation. The position is amazing, easy stroll to Salamanca!!!

Beautiful building and greenery, great rooms

Great location, nice views

We love staying at Lenna of Hobart. We have stayed here twice now & find you can’t beat the value for money staying here. The location is amazing - so close to the Salamanca markets, a quick walk to the wharves & all of the restaurants there, also a quick walk to some beautiful cafes and restaurants around battery point (e.g. Monsoon Thai fusion, Jackman & McRoss). The last time we stayed at Lenna there were fireworks near the bridge & our room had a direct view of this. Whilst the rooms and amenities aren’t super modern, it’s clean, comfortable & the exterior is gorgeous. There’s a cute bar on-site which is nice to pop down to for a nightcap. The service is always great, we really appreciated them accommodating a later check-out. Will definitely stay here again.

very nice hotel,my first time coming over to Tasmania , its was so freezing for me😄😄😄 cause my home is in Bali , but I love here to many colors of flower , thank you Australia hope see you again around.

Enjoyed our stay here, lovely rooms, close to Salamanca Market. Staff very friendly and helpful 👍

Location Location Location ✨️ 📸✨️ Stunning views of surrounding Battery Point heritage buildings and river Derwent are amazing and so picturesque at sunrise. Salamanca Place at your doorstep. Mt Wellington at sunrise is a photographer's dream ✨️ 📸✨️

Perfect spot for Salamanca Markets. Rooms were fabulous. Possibly the best place we stayed in our whole Tasmania trip.

Friendly ppl.clean rooms close to shops

Good rooms, hotel is lovely. Convenient location, walking distance to shops and restaurants and the ferry. Very close to Salamanca market. There is always available free parking for hotel guests which is a big plus. Thanks for the bottle of wine, appreciate it!

Great location and great facilities. Well appointed and clean rooms. Highly recommended.

Checked in and found the TV did not work, they were happy to move us. Great service, lovely staff, definitely stay there again.

Great place. Lovely interior to relax and explore even on a rainy day. Lovely helpful personable staff. Free car park a major plus.

Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms and a cute little bar.

Great location, just a short stroll down to some of Hobart's best bars and restaurants. We have stayed here a few times now and have not been disappointed by the rooms or staff. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous and the views from the rooms of either the harbor or mountains (depending on your selection) are great.

Very lovely staff, great location, great breakfast on-site and we were very happy with our room - will absolutely stay here again next time we’re in Hobart.

Very warm comfortable rooms with a later checkout is always welcome and an ideal location.

Conveniently located within the Beam scooter zone.

Parking spaces are tight.

First time to stay here. Amazing hotel. Words cannot describe the ambiance of this old world hotel. Large rooms, clean and extremely well serviced. Friendly staff. Cannot find fault with Lenna of Hobart. Extremely close to Salamanca Place restaurants, market and waterfront. Will NEVER try a different hotel in the future when visiting Hobart.

Just up the hill from Salamanca Place, a restored mansion that offers modern accommodation and amenities. The venue has all the mod-cons, great staff with ample knowledge of the island. Worth a stay with that special someone.

I've stayed here a number of times with work and I always enjoy staying here. The building is historic and while it has a semi-modern feel, the richness is starting to show its age if you look hard at the details in the room accommodation. The rest of the experience - gin cocktails/beer/wine in the historic lounge with fireplace and a view up to the mountain at sunset is bucket list stuff c great way to finish work. The room views over the gardens or those over the harbour or the mountain would be romantic in any normal setting. For me it has been the WiFi for work when I've needed it and that has been fast and reliable. The beds are very comfortable - I actually sleep better at the Lenna than at home.
